This story was an utter disaster, but after reading the first few pages, that really shouldn’t have surprised me since it starts off with an info dump. Seriously? I expected so much more from Kiana Hettinger. There are grammatical errors, long sections of narrative that felt like I had to trudge through them, and this story is absolutely not a standalone. The whole premise is based upon characters from the previous book. (Sadly, I read that one too. I suppose I’m a glutton for punishment.) Arnie—a supposedly cold and calculating assassin, by the way—did not even make a blip on the Alpha scale. To top it off, the assassin sure spends a lot of time feeling bad for people… like his business partner, his employee, the female lead. In just the first few chapters he is ’crippled with guilt’ and wondering if he’s a bad person for lying. Like seriously? You supposedly kill people for a living, remember? I’m pretty sure if this guy ever shot anything, it was a teddy bear, and he felt real bad about it afterward. For an assassin (who you would think would have to be a rather analytical person), he also does an awful lot of things without thinking, So… not skilled, not Alpha. Definitely not hot. Roisin (who is in her twenties) came across as a self-pitying sixteen-year-old from her first chapter, and that didn’t change much throughout the story. I get that she’s sad, but the 'why does everyone leave me’ act gets old fast. I felt no connection to her at all. And worse than that, she came across as stupid. Like dumb as a doornail stupid. So… stupid, childish. Definitely not relatable. I also noticed this story regurgitates pieces of plots from the Mafia Kings series over and over again. For example… Shortly after Roisin’s character is introduced, The list goes on, of course, but I think I’ve painted a clear enough picture. I just can’t reconcile the writer of the Mafia Kings series with the writing in this book. It feels like completely different writers to me. It isn’t just the uninventive (and implausible) plot or the lackluster (and often stupid) characters that I couldn’t form a connection with in this book, but the very basics of writing style and quality are too different from one series to the next. When I pick up a Rina Kent, I can expect to get Rina Kent style and quality. Same goes for authors like Aleatha Romig, J.M. Darhower, A. Zavarelli, or Tillie Cole. When I pick up a Kiana Hettinger book… who knows what I’m going to get. I have to wonder why that is. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I will start off by saying this is not my favorite book by Kiana Hettinger, but I did really like Forbidden Protector. There was a lot going on in this book and it sure did make for one entertaining read. The prologue for this story was very interesting and drew me in. I found it engaging and Kiana did her job by making me want to turn the next page. Kiana included a wide range of characters who really helped bring life to the book. No, I did not like many of them, but I loved the ones I did. The plot was original and intriguing, but at the same time I found the book to be very predictable. There were many facets to Arnie that made it impossible to put him in just one box. By this I mean he was an alpha male when he needed to be; he could be cold, calculating, stealthy and deadly; he was very intelligent and looked at the big picture as a whole (not one to just rush in - he liked to have facts); and Arnie had an emotional side to him that not even he realized existed until he met Roisin. He was my favorite character in the book and I couldn't get enough of him. Roisin was very naive and it was obvious she lived a sheltered life. Her family did her absolutely no favors by keeping her in the dark. Roisin had faced a lot in her short life and this did little to help with her self-esteem. I felt bad for Roisin when it came to who she could trust this poor girl had serious abandonment issues. Connor who is her brother and Arnie's partner is a man with a huge ego trip. He only cares about power and revenge. He is definitely not a rational thinker and lets his emotions rule him. He can easily be described as a loose cannon. This is a series where the books can be read as standalones. However, I feel reading them in order makes for an overall better experience. I can't wait to see what Kiana has planned for book 3.
Arnie and Roisin meet for the first time during an unfavorable circumstance. This could be a huge problem for them since there is a contract marriage between them that Roisin has no idea about. There is definitely an intense chemistry these two share, but will Roisin be able to look past what Arnie has done. As they spend time together it becomes obvious there is something real between them. The problem: there is danger coming at them in all directions and they have no idea who can be trusted.

Cat’s Stats MMC/FMC- Arnie and Roisin POV- 1st person dual Genre- Mafia Romance (Irish Mob) Heat- 🌋🌋🌋🌋🌋 They do the things and use the female P word and the male C word, but not the male P word or the female C word. Series? Y Safety? Y. There is no cheating or s. violence, and it ends in a HFN (there are also a number of unresolved issues from the overall storyline. If you hate HFN, this isn’t the series for you). Triggers- like Roy Rogers. There’s substance abuse, mention/discussion of overdose, a death set up to appear as the ultimate self harm, mention of abuse, language, graphic violence, and explicit erotic content. Although, if explicit erotic content triggers you, you might want to consider a different series. No shade here, just saying. Tropes- Simply Mad About the Mob, Hitman Baby One More Time, Best Friend’s Sister, Arranged Marriage, Amnesia, Older Sibling Instinct. Mewsings What I liked- Roisin’s journey with sobriety is complicated and has very realistic consequences (like partial amnesia). The book is riveting, and is so fast paced that all I could do was keep reading until the wee hours of the morning. I actually missed midnight today (New Year’s) because I was so involved with reading the book (and I wouldn’t have it any other way ☺️). I liked Arnie a lot, and am adding him to my harem of Book Boyfriends. He and Roisin have flaws, and that gives them dimension. What I loved- the zexytime scenes. They were visceral (teeth and tongues and skin) and urgent and devastating. Furnishings got damaged. It was so hot, I thought that their house would catch fire. Oh, wait…. What I didn’t like- I would have preferred it if more of the overall story elements were concluded. Now I have to wait for the next book, and ICYMI, I lack patience. I just hope that the next book has more story resolution.

The title says it best so make sure to double check that you are buckled up, dangerous men, alpha’s personified, possessive, oh, gorgeous, brooding all the makings of a story consisting with three D’s (dark, delicious, and dirty) 😊. There will be suspense, betrayal, death, darkness, secrets reveled, violence, hope, forgiveness, and maybe even love along the way. Arnie sexy as all get out assassin, dangerous when needed, deadly on most days, and set up in an arranged marriage. Roisin sweet sheltered a dance student with Juilliard despite her family being mafia connected so when she finds out brother arranged her marriage, she isn’t too happy especially she doesn’t trust the man. But her sister takes her escape from their brother but after her sister goes missing trying to make her way on her on is a struggle. She learns that Arnie is considerate, skilled and dependable they end up helping one another but is it enough to build trust, to build a relationship, can they find a balance that works for them leading to something more than an arranged marriage?
Arnie is an assassin, Roisin is a student at Juilliard. Both are the product of mafia families, although Roisin has been sheltered from this fact. She also doesn't know that her brother has arranged her marriage to Arnie.
I really liked this story. Roisin is a strong accomplished woman, but the gaps in her memory and the lies that were told to her to once keep her protected now put her in danger. Her relationship with Arnie grows from initial distrust to finding the honesty and the kind of protection that she needs. And Arnie finds the kind of support he needs from this multifaceted woman in order to face his own demons and doubts.
This is a ripping good yarn, with plenty of mystery, suspense, thrills, chills, and plot twists to keep you reading. There's love and loyalty, betrayal and deception, with plenty of steam to spice things up.

Roisin and Arnie complement each other: rash, flamboyant, but so vulnerable at times. She’s artistic, beautiful, and passionate and he’s an assassin with heart, gorgeous, and so dirty! Kiana Hettinger had her hands full with this couple, their shenanigans, and their enemies. I loved the raw emotion and energy between them, it made the carnal steam even more intense. Their openness to each other was heartwarming and heartbreakingly beautiful.
Roisin has so much baggage that Arnie had to be so much more than he thought he was capable of being. They’re both so strong that as they grew closer things became more clear and simple: love is the answer, their anchor, and their future. Betrayal, danger, cruelty, and tragedy kept the action at an extreme level. The bonus epilogue is delightfully executed and beautifully dirty!.

Arnie and Roisin had one hell of a rocky start to say the least. Roisin hasn’t had an easy life to say the least but her sister Amiee has always been there to love and protect her maybe a little too much. It was great to see who Roisin really is and how she can thrive on her own. Let me tell you she still has some demons to work out but so does Arnie and I really think these two together make one hell of a pair and are exactly what one another needed so while their relationship did not start out great their build up and progression was fantastic. We get the suspense, the drama and the love along with some sprinkles of betrayal that just added to the story. The family drama and rivalry is at an all time high which already enhances the reading experience. All in all fantastic read and I am really hoping we get Kate’s story!
So much going on, you won’t be able to put the book down. These two have a childlike sense to them, while holding so much maturity. I think Arnie has been alone for so long, he’s not great with human interaction, while still being able to connect on a very sensitive level. Roisin has been “protected” so much, she has no idea of who she’s is or been able to grow, while also being fierce. This story is non stop action and passion. I love the continuation of the characters with Jack and Aimee while allowing Roisin and Arnie their own perfect story. Everything happens very quickly and you never know what’s coming next!.

Wow, I loved reading this book it was amazing, the story was quite intriguing and the characters were really sensational. This book was about Roisin and Arnie, Arnie is an assassin he was on the job when he killed his target then she turned up when he finished and now he needed her to go with him, and all she does is fight to get away. Roisin and her sister ran and was hiding from the brother now she is waiting for her sister to turn up.

I love how Arnie and Roisin meet unexpectedly. He’s a killer for hire murder who has just murdered her friend and mentor, but he’s also partnered with her brother Connor McGuire. Roisin has been living a sheltered life not knowing what who her family really was. Her sister took Roisin and they escaped from her brother, the Irish mafia boss. A captivating story filled with lies and betrayal around every corner. There was few twists and turns to really keep the story really interesting in the steamy dark romance. Arnie and Roisin are one of my favorite couples of this author- they had great chemistry, banter, the whole package. My online dislike is the name Arnie because it's got some grumpy old man vibes, but also made him a little mroe lovable.
Connor played his part well- he's gotten pretty irredeemable in the past two books so I'm curious if he'll get his book where he can get back in his sister's good graces.
There are some unresolved issues. Bella. Diane. Kate. The feud between Connor and Jack. I hope these all come together in the coming books!.

This is the second book in the Mafia Kings duet. This book has two great characters who have both grown up in the mafia lifestyle. Although one is completely oblivious to the reality of their life. This story has lots of action, violence, suspense, mysteries and of course spice. Arnie is an assassin who works for Roisin’s brother and it has been arranged that Arnie and Roisin will marry. As these two become closer and begin to trust each other trouble starts heading their way. I enjoyed the characters they are always so tragic and have such depths to them. Very enjoyable read for those who love mafia romances.
I had a little trouble getting into this story but once things started coming together, I had a hard time putting it down. Arnie and Roisin are the main characters in this book and are from Mafia families. Roisin doesn’t remember much about her past and only wants to be a dancer. Arnie is an assassin and is contracted to kill Roisin’s brother. Will Arnie end up killing Roisin’s brother and make her remember her past?.

What a wonderful story, one that keeps you glued from the first page. This is the story of Roisin who has not exactly had an easy life. She meets Arnie when she is on the run from her brother and not only that, she is also addicted and her sister has disappeared. This is a roller coaster of feelings and emotions, with plenty of drama. betrayal, tension. action and much more and let's not forget the steamy and hot scenes everything and more you can expect from a good mafia story.

This is the second book in this series, and this is Arnie and Roisin’s story. Arnie is multifaceted, as he can be cold and calculating, and is a hired assassin, while Roisin has led a sheltered life and has faced many obstacles in her life. This is a well written story which is action packed, with family, revelations, emotions, challenges, arranged marriage, twists, danger, suspense, witty banter, intrigue, and love, which leads to an entertaining, and steamy, dark mafia romance. Roisin Maguire had her demons that she over came, but was kept sheltered by her sister and brother who knew the depths of their mafia ties. But can they build a future on something more together? Well written the story has you hooked with chemestry sizzling characters, drama ,desires, arranged marriage action and more!
Roisin wanted to pursue her dream as an actress but it is hard when you are an Irish Mafia princess. Arnie has built a reputation for himself as an assassin and when he partnered with the Irish, he gained a bride. When it was time to collect, he was surprised that Roisin was more than he was expecting. The chemistry was great between the two and the plot was interesting.

Arnie and Roisin forge a path, but it is built from lies and betrayal. He is an assassin, and she is an aspiring dancer. She wants to pursue her dreams, but her brother has made a deal with Arnie. Will their path be a happy one given her dreams and the family she is from. This story kept me glued to the pages from start to finish.

I am a complete sucker for protective, OTT alpha men and the author nails the perfect MMC with Arnie. I also resonated with Roisin’s character and their relationship journey. I didn’t love the story like I normally do with Kiana’s work as it wasn’t as smooth a flow as other writing and seemed to overload with detail sometimes and lack gravitas at others. Still, steamy sexy fun.❤️❤️.

Fab instalment in the series - but does also work as stand alone. Solid premise, good character development and plenty of twists and turns on top of the steamy adult romance to keep you interested. A great read.

The story of Arnie and Roison was dangerous, steamy, intense, and so fun to read. There was lies and betrayal and family meltdowns. There wasn't a part of this book that i didn't love. This book really is a must read.
Arnie is a gentle assassin giant trying to fit into the mob world. He is promised the sister, Roisin, of his partner, the mob boss. Love the banter, the twist and the characters. I truly enjoy this authors books.

A good read which follows right on from the previous book but follows the Aimee’s sister Roisin! And what drama she gets up to when her sister goes missing! But be ready for the past to make an appearance!
I loved this book! I like all of Kiana's books but this one was a lot of fun and a little lighthearted, mind you just a teensy bit lighthearted in some areas. This is still an Irish mafia romance with some dark sections.
The prologue was a fantastic start to the book when we see Arnie and Connor meet for the first time. I thought the situation was absurd and just a little hilarious. It's too bad the MMC and FMC's meetcute did not go quite as well.
I really like the two main characters. They have depth and are a bit opposite of each other. In the beginning, they have a lot of sexual tension but their relationship quickly moves to sweet- not that the sex is not still good, the relationship just gets better. They learn to respect eachother. Arnie, the assassin is bound by contract to Roison, an Irish mob boss' daughter. Wait until she finds out! And what a wedding! That's one for the books. Usually, weddings bore me but this is not your typical happy ending.
I think this book has a little bit of something for everyone. There is suspense and action throughout- I like that about Kiana's books. There is sex and romance. There is a morally grey hero. There is also betrayal. Like I said, fun, fun, fun.
Oh, and this is an interconnected story with Forbidden Romeo. It might fill in some of the blanks in the story but this one can still def. be read as a standalone or before Forbidden Romeo. The chronological order just suggests you read that one first.
