Scarlett Prynne is new in town, but that won’t stop trouble from finding the young witch. It always does.
Before her brother kicked her through a magical portal that eventually landed her in nowhere Tonopah, Nevada, he called her an agent of chaos. But let’s be fair. Our Scarlett doesn’t create problems.
Her magic just attracts it in all shapes and furry sizes.
Like her familiar, Runeclaw. The black cat’s tongue is as sharp as his nails, and he has a snark that can cut through just about anything.
This time though, trouble was already here.
The small town Scarlett wound up in is already home to a conspiracy or two, along with a dark magic hidden in the shadows.
Perfect for Scarlett and Runeclaw in the worst possible ways.
Maybe her brother had a point.
Nah. It’s just another coincidence. Right? What plans do the dark forces of Tonopah have in mind for our motorcycle-loving witch? Want to find out?
For action, magic, snarky banter, martial arts, mystical creatures, and a dash of mystery, join Scarlett and Runeclaw on their new Oriceran adventure!
I’m TR Cameron, science fiction author. I’ve been an avid consumer of the genre since I was six, I think, when I broke the seal on my Dad’s copies of the Asimov Foundation books. It’s been all downhill since then.
I have a day job that I love most days, and writing is pretty much my only consistent hobby. When I find time that’s not already filled with my wife, my daughter, my writing, my work, or dodging the affections of our clowder of cats, you can find me playing video games (currently Dishonored 2 – I’m a little behind the times on this one), watching things (Marvel movies, American Gods, Agents of Shield, Justified, The Expanse, Gotham), playing board games, or, naturally, reading.
My favorite authors in Sci-Fi are David Weber, Jean Johnson, John Scalzi, CJ Cherryh, and the giants: Asimov, Pohl, Bear, Heinlein, etc. I read a lot in other genres too, and am a big fan of Matthew Woodring Stover, Michael Anderle, Jim Butcher, and I could go on and on and on. If I had to choose one favorite, though, it would be Stephen R. Donaldson, whose Thomas Covenant series was transformative for me.
Probably my pie-in-the-sky dream for my writing career is that someone would make a movie or television show of my books and I could be a part of the production. Sure, unlikely, but a clowder-dodger can dream, right? My more practical dream is that I can keep writing and both entertaining and connecting with my readers for years and years to come.

Obsessed doesn’t even come close to how I feel about this book.
This is my perfect story. I adored the heck out of this book!!
The friendship? The banter? The loyalty? Literally every single thing I fell in love with.
I want to protect all of these characters with my entire soul. I want to become best friends with them. You know the question about who would you have dinner with if you could, no matter if they’re alive, dead, or fictional? I would choose these characters. Scarlett, Runeclaw, Maddox, and Eli. These are my people.
I would have finished this in one day if I could have. I couldn’t stop thinking about this entire story and these characters when I wasn’t reading it. I would have finished this a couple days ago but I literally had to stop myself from finishing it because I didn’t have time, and I knew if I tried to finish I would have been late to work…..so, needless to say I really love this book lol.
I am beyond happy to have finally found a series that I can obsess over and just devour. It’s been so long since a book, let alone an entire series, has made me feel this way.
A few things I really appreciated about this book: - I liked that the author didn’t try to come up with magical words and phrases. I feel like sometimes when authors do this it makes the story cringey and cheesy. - This has 0 smut in it, there isn’t even a hint of a romance (not yet at least) and I found that refreshing. I love romance in stories, don’t get me wrong, but this focused more on the friendship and the battles they had to face. - I loved that Scarlett, Runeclaw, Maddox, and Eli all just fell into place with each other and learned what each of their strengths and weaknesses were. Almost like these characters were pieces for a missing puzzle and they all fit perfectly together. - And, lastly, I truly adore the fact that this story has a Familiar as a main character and it’s the most sassiest cat ever.
This book deserves more hype, imo. I wish more people knew about this and have read it. I’m extremely thankful that I stumbled upon it on KU. Honestly, the cover is what caught my attention. I love this cover and knew I needed to see what was inside. Boy, am I so glad I’m not disappointed!
I highly recommend this if you’re looking for a cozy urban fantasy with lovable and loyal characters, writing that is done well, and a setting that is very magical.
The storyline did, at least. A young witch from another planet finds herself stranded in Nevada with a not-quite-functioning wand. Together with a Guardian cat, she discovers a dark magic threatening to take over the entire city and must work to stop it before it's too late.
Only, nothing about the actual story seemed real.
There's the money. The fact that this is a foreign world to her, and she just either gets cash from random strangers or somehow makes it work. Not once does she think about money in the slightest. Which makes no sense.
The entire story of how she got here didn't add up either. Between the brother who (accidentally?) sent her her there as a joke, the mother she doesn't get to call who I'd assume knew where she was and worried about her, the way other people easily went from on world to the other. How didn't someone come to get her? Also, even if it wasn't possible (for some unexplainable reason), I would've at least expected her to think about the subject. Which she didn't. She had no worry whatsoever in this foreign world without income.
The random skills that Scarlett had that helped her save the day time and again made no sense to me, either. They were all used to help make her invincible in fights, a superior stalker, and a fearless warrior and they just seemed... convenient. Impossible, unrealistic, and convenient.
The friendships. I knew insta-love was a thing. I did not know insta-friendship was one, too. In this book the heroine collected an entire band of friends. Starting from a guardian cat who took her under its wing from the first second, and all the way to a powerful man who has a whole band of people under his command and just handed out money, a motorcycle and blindly trusted her for no reason whatsoever. That's not how relationships work, people. And then, the entire time they were together they spent insulting each other, which made it even less realistic. It might be called humor and bantering after you actually know each other, but considering that they just met and she's dependent on them for her survival, it didn't seem so realistic that they'd act that way around each other.
I did appreciate the fact that there was no romance forced into any of this. Which, I might add, is a big part of why this got two stars instead of one.
But also, it all felt so detached from reality, so impossible that I just couldn't enjoy it. I like my stories with heroines I can relate to, ones that make sense, ones whose interactions with the world reflect what I know about people and reality.
There was potential here. Lots of potential.
I ended up skimming most of the book, hoping it would get better, hoping she would finally have a coherent goal and purpose but never found a reason to read it more thoroughly.
If only a few key factors were changed, like maybe if Scarlett knew her insta-friends beforehand. Or if she thought, even once, about her family and gave a coherent explanation for why she was still in this alien world and they hadn't found her yet. Or if her narrative gave some voice to emotions like the ones she must've been feeling after being abandoned in this world, and impulsively deciding to go across the city with stolen money so her family never would be able to find her or the ones that made her never even think about returning home, though she was a defenseless woman and had nothing. If only even some of these points were addressed I think this might've been a very engaging, enjoyable read.
Alternatives:
Content: Some violence. Blood magic. Binding spirts in a graveyard. Stealing. Bullying. No romance.
(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I change my mind on a series, so want to change my scoring by 0.50 or more of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)
First time read the author's work?: No
Will you be reading more?: Yes
Would you recommend?: Yes
------------ How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author) 4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author). 3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series) or 3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)
All of the above scores means I would recommend them! - 2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.) 1* = Disliked
Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)
Just when you thought things couldn’t get weirder. This was a very different read about a witch from a different planet who is kicked into a portal by her brother in a fight and into Las Vegas no less . She finds herself in the middle of a strange situation where there is a group of evil people who want power and money so they are taking energy from the lay lines and keeping the towns people unknowingly out of their way and taking away anything they can get from them. Until the Guardian of the town finds his magic.
There is a lot of history and lore to this story which is very interesting and important to read. The other’s in this story are very fascinating to read because they are all so well written but also have a unique story to them. They are not typical and are colorful characters. Found the book different and will read the next book and see if it keeps me up to read more.
3.5 stars. It was okay to middle of the road. Runeclaw was the highlight of the book as he provided the needed comic relief and his actions during the battle scenes were pretty good. Scarlett was okay, she’s pushed through the portal by her brother and thus her adventures begin. The book was actually pretty fast paced and even with that my attention wandered for a bit. Character were introduced that I have a feeling came from other series so I was lost for a moment. Overall, it’s brain candy
Witch on Wheels is a quick, fun read. The FMC, Scarlett, is a feisty fighter in all the best ways. If that’s not enough, Scarlett’s familiar, Runeclaw, can outsnark even the snarkiest characters. Runeclaw has some absolute gems of one liners. Scarlett also encounters Maddox and gets set up with a really great motorcycle. I really loved Maddox’s character as well. Together the group investigate issue with the ley lines and chaos ensues. I enjoyed how action packed this was and how quickly it moved the plot at least for me. I also felt that Cameron did well with setting scenes and describing the magics. I read this via audiobook. I felt that Dina Pearlman did well with distinguishing the various characters and keeping with the action filled nature of the story. ✨ ✨ ALC courtesy of Tantor Audio
The author heavily describes actions, ppl, places. Causes the story to feel sluggish. There is also just much going right that the good reads description of an unlucky witch just doesn't match up.
Was meint ihr, welche Figuren stehlen euch regelmäßig die Show?
Scarlett is definitely wild and witching, thrown into our world via portal courtesy of her mean brother during a fight. (I would certainly have plenty of badddddd words bubbling out and my momma running for the soap to wash out my mouth 😱). But Scarlett handles the abrupt transition with aplomb and rescues a young woman from a vicious gang, and dispatching them with the capable assistance of Runeclaw the gorgeous Abyssinian.
After removing the gangs ill gotten gains so she and Runeclaw can skedaddle, they find a new adventure and meet Maddox the mechanic in a new town as they explore intriguing horizons and magical Leylines (Maddox somehow puts me in mind of a grizzled but well groomed Sam Elliott) and his Shadow Rider biker family.
A hidden battle is in play, and Scarlett and Runeclaw will be smack in the midst of it with Maddox and the bikers on the side of good, helping young Eli, who runs a local general store. Eli is coming into his powers as the last guardian of the magical town where he lives, battling the evil “guild” that pretends to be a force of good for the locals, but really, they are all about power. Like most evil doers, they are all for stealing power, taking it and misusing it…some very powerful themes run through so many books in the sci-fi genre and this novel will not disappoint!
A fabulously written book, witty and warm characters, jam packed action sequence for the adrenaline junkies - there is something for everyone here, and an absolutely worthwhile read.
T R Cameron has a real talent for putting characters together who mesh really well, despite lots of teasing, and they did so in this series, with Scarlett Prynne, a witch from Oriceran, and Runeclaw, an Abyssinian Cat, who adopted her, as cats tend to
After Scarlett landed on Earth, due to her brother losing his temper, and opening up a rift on Oriceran, to Earth, she isn't as muddled by it as she might have been, due to travelling to Earth previously.
Then, as luck would have it, she almost immediately runs into Runeclaw, who speaks - when he wants to - and uses magic, so Scarlett knew straight away that she had some reason for being there, on Earth.
After being helped by Maddox, a local Biker gang leader, who do their best to help and protect those around them, Scarlett is 'sold' Dusk Runner - who sounds just like the kind of motorbike that would have been my perfect ride - she and Runeclaw go to the town of Tonopah, where their first adventure begins.
And, boy, what an adventure it is!
I'll say no more, as I don't want to spoil things, so do go on to read this great story yourself, yes? Lol
I'm eager to see what Scarlett and Runeclaw will be up to next, in Book Two: 'Witch Slapped', which I'll be loading onto my Kindle any minute now, to be ready to read, once I've had some sleep.
So, once I'm finished here, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know if Book Two is as good as this one is!
I feel like I am in the minority on this book. Its not a bad read but its not my top read. It took me a long time [for me] to finish this book. Everything could distract me away from this book and did.
Scarlett is unceremoniously dropped here after her brother opens a portal and shuts her off with her childhood wand. A wand that is lacking in the power she needs. She then meets a sweet little black cat and winds up at a motorcycle shop. From there things seem to come easily for Scarlett and I just couldn't abide by that. The relationship with Maddox, Eli, and the rest of the Spell Gang was too easy and trusting for people that had never met previously.
Runeclaw is absolutely my favorite part of the book. A sassy, talking black cat that does magic with his tail. I want all the books to include a Runeclaw from here on out.
There is no romance in this book and I kept waiting for it. I didn't need anything serious but I always enjoy the added mutual attraction and flirting. But there was none and I think that also partially contributed to my feelings toward the book. I will definitely give book 2 a try when it comes out because I think there are good bones to the story.
This book really only exists to put a snarky magic-using woman in the same book with a snarky magic cat making snarky comments. While the characters (and there are many of them) are interesting, the story doesn’t go into WHY any of them do what they do. For example, the MC gets in an Uber with the cat and just gets out when they get to the next town. Why? No clue. Then she walks into a shop that just happens to have the one person in town who is magically knowledgeable and she just decides to help him. Again why? Her motivations are not even superficially explored. Another character who just met her gives her a bad-ass, semi-sentient motorcycle. Why? Just because. Come on! Put some meat on these bones. Make the story and characters three-dimensional. Snark only carries you so far. I gave up halfway through out of frustration.
Also ja ein gelungener Auftakt. Wunderschönes Cover, hat mich vom ersten Blick an gefesselt, der Klappentext macht neugierig und verspricht ein paar humorvolle Lesestunden.
Scarlett tumbled into small town USA and is instantly off on adventure. She met Runeclaw when she was saving a girl being beaten in an alley. I adored Runeclaw the minute I met him, in T R Kramer's Witch On Wheel Nomads Book 1. Scarlett discovers a young store owner being harassed by some odd people. She and Rineclaw jump right in to help. Other guardians stand ready to help. It all makes for a grand adventure full of magic and danger. I really enjoyed this book. A feisty heroine, a magic cat full of snark, and a beauty bike - what more can you ask for. Readers of Jileen Dolbeare and Heather G Harris will delight in this read.
Scarlett and her brother are fighting when he pushes her through a portal to earth, then the fun begins. She meets up with a magical cat and they sense an imbalance in the magic and set off on an adventure. This was a fun first book in the series, I really enjoy the witch and the snarky cat. I also liked the new friends she meets and hope to see more if them in the following books.
I've come to expect certain things from these authors, so this was a disappointment.
There's a lot of descriptions of actions and sometimes places, but not much else. The characters lack personality and don't seem to be fully fleshed out. The writing is strangely emotionless, so it's difficult to connect to the characters. It's like the whole book is in black and white when it ought to be in color.
Also as a librarian, please do not steal historic items from the library.
The characters in this book look to have interesting futures. I am sure future plots will be similar to this book. I will not be reading the series as it has gotten old reading the insults said to the only female character. Camaraderie and good natured ribbing is one thing, but this was constant put downs that I would hope no real women would tolerate.
Good start to, hopefully, a long series. Characters are developed nicely. Nice story line with the twist of the main character traveling constantly. From Nevada in book 1 to Utah in book 2. There is plenty of action and suspense. Runeclaw is properly snarky. Recommended.
This was a fast paced story that I didn't want to put down. Scarlet is a kick ass heroine who feels the need to help those in trouble. Along with her snarky familiar Runeclaw the cat they find themselves in an adventure meeting new allies and opponents. The only disappointment is that the next story isn't ready yet
This was a very enjoyable story, set in middle of nowhere Nevada, saving a town connected to a magical ley line. The motorcycle club, the guardian, and especially the cat & witch duo were very enjoyable. Good action scenes classic of these authors.
An interesting beginning of the series with a witch on a Harley, add a magical cat, and bad guys all around. It is okay so far, but it has not “grabbed” me and sucked me in like other books have. There is some witty banter and a team of allies that I hope will show up in book two, but overall this one was just okay for me. Happy reading, All.
Interesting book. Not over done with details or extra sub character plots. Nice, interesting plot line with a nice set of characters. Not to tied up in developing a long and involved character all at one time. Flush out the main character enough to make it worth your time to read and a great partner, dang, talking, magical, wisecracking cat.
I liked it. I was a little disappointed because I am comparing this to his other Witch Warrior series which was phenomenal. This protagonist seemed a bit weak, comparatively and I am not sure I like the bantering between her and Runeclaw; it is a bit too mean, especially considering they just me, IMHO. Still decent though.
What a great start to a new series ,great plot love the action and meeting friends along the way characters were great too I recommend this book a well earned 5 stars
The storyline is well developed. The characters are interesting and crafted with personalities that fit their role in the story. The action sequences are also well written. Looks like the start of a must-read series.
I have to admit you spiced it up a little. Your imagery was top notch. I always like you guys books but this was a nice inprovement. Can't wait for the rest. Thank you guys a bang up job.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The main characters were interesting, I found Runeclaw’s snarky personality very humorous. Scarlet looks to on the road to becoming an interesting heroine.
Really good story and an intriguing concept for a storyline. I so enjoyed the interactions of the lead character and the cat. All the characters were very interesting
