Adam is a trans art student who frequents an underground, illegal plasma donation center to pay for college expenses. His doctor, the too-pretty, androgynous Dr. Mede, offers him the deal of a lifetime: experimental surgery to help his failing heart for twenty-five grand, no strings attached.
It sounds too good to be true, but Adam is desperate to make ends meet and to get a shot at living a normal life.
He gets a lot more than he signed up for, though. As the aftereffects of the surgery send him into a spiral of lust, taboo urges, and surreal magic, Dr. Mede is nowhere to be found, and Adam falls into a cycle of obsession.
Will Adam survive his metamorphosis?
Please check CWs before purchasing. This itchio exclusive 17,000-word erotic horror novelette has many dark themes and is not intended for anyone under the age of 18.
mars adler is a queer and trans author in their mid-twenties. they currently reside on the side of a mountain in Colorado with their dog, and unfortunately hold a corporeal form. they write speculative fiction with a focus on things that terrify them (absolutely everything), and morally grey queer characters. when not writing, they can be found painting, making tea, and trying to become part of the forest on hikes.
"He's letting Mede, the shady doctor who probably lost their license to practice medicine before Adam graduated high school, cut him open to see if they can find out what makes someone like him tick. They can cut him open and play inside his guts like a sandbox, and Adam won't even know because he'll be dead to the world."
And this is basically the plot. It's weird, dubious, reads like a fever nightmare dream, and it's not for everyone with the amount of content warnings - which you should definitely look up if you're interested but unsure if there's something triggering for you! (either the author's website or Evie's review)
Queer horror stories have a special place in my twisted heart, especially in a novella format, especially if it's erotica. Everyone has hobbies, right? 🤭
In the stories containing body horror imagery, I feel like it very much depends on the author's writing style to make it disgustingly exquisite. Some writers fail, and the end result is just gory and unpalatable with no substance. I'm pleased to say that Mars Adler has done a great job here. I'll need to check more of their work because something just clicked for me in all the right ways, and now I want more.
(I abhor any kind of doctor/patient relations that aren't strictly professional, and yet here I gobbled it up. Put it in the horror genre and I'm all for it, apparently 😅)
This was such a weird novella and I kind of really love it for being unapologetically freaky. Adler refers to this as a dark erotic horror, but honestly I'm not sure if it's horny enough for me to agree with that genre tag, but it is atmospheric, gruesome and definitely has unconventional and toxic romantic elements.
Adam, a trans art student on the cusp of graduation, has been making an income by illegally selling his blood and plasma to the nonbinary Dr Mere at their underground medical clinic. For $25k Adam has signed up to an experimental surgery to implant a monitoring device in his heart for a congenital heart condition (hasn't he?) but things get very strange very quickly, but by then it's too late to stop....
I feel like to enjoy this you need to be cool existing in the unknown, if you are someone who needs concrete answers you might find yourself frustrated with the ambiguity of this story and these characters. I would have happily read a full length novel of this and eaten up the dubious medical consent, the body horror, the yearning and the unraveling of sanity in a complete gluttony.
I found the surgery and the body horror scenes to be actually unsettling but I can't help but wish this book committed more to the sexual desire and hunger that this flirted with. Like yes this was kind of horny, but it could have been MUCH, MUCH HORNIER. 3.5 stars rounded up.
Content warnings: medical kink, vivisection, wound fingering, non-con body modifications during surgery, cannibalism, raw meat consumption, age gap, doctor/patient relationship and a brief scene in which Adam gives a blow job to a character who is not the main love interest (prior to a relationship being established).
Read and devoured this in one sitting at work. (Probably not the best place to read it) but FUCKKKK twas so good. Yall know I’m in love with anything fucked up that gives me like Hannigram vibes and this ticked all the boxes babyyyyy.
Read cw before reading for the love of god but pls check it out if your into fucked up books (in the best possible ways)
This went from beautifully disgusting to exciting to hopeful. Transformation is always an interesting topic, mixed with some cannibalism and powerful things - perfect
This is my favorite Mars book so far! This was so fantastic, I had no idea where it was going and at the beginning I thought ‘wtf did I get myself into?’ But man, you just gotta keep reading! Absolutely fantastic, love it!
mars adler is one of many queer authors and artists that itch.io fucked over by removing their work. Queer indie artists have lost their income from itch, their books have gotten yanked, books people have purchased have been deleted from the purchaser's dashboard (means you can't download what you bought), all because an Australian anti-porn extremist group (Collective Shout) got MasterCard and Visa to cater to their moral panic.
Now is a great time to support indie authors by buying from them directly and to give your middle finger to censorship.
I am brave because I read and finished this book! And...uh...I was shocked and revolted and shocked and I'm-not-a-scaredy-cat-or-squeamish-about blood-sobs, but I enjoyed it and I read it all by myself with all the lights on (so what.)
Thank you to the author for introducing me to wound-fingering.

Really read the content warnings before reading this book lmao it's not a horror erotica for fun. That said..
I really liked it. I'm not normally a body horror kinda guy but it was really well done! Sometimes you just need some lowkey toxic soulmates that have some loose af morals and this gave me exactly that.
“‘Gross,’ he breathes reverently,” really just perfectly summed that whole thing up.

this review has been a long time coming, but GUYS. THIS BOOK. utterly engrossing and haunting, mars adler's novelette Eyetooth has not left my brain since devouring it back at the start of january.
adam, our mc, is obsessive and desperate, clinging to any stability he can find in a rapidly deteriorating situation following an illicit operation. he seeks that stability from the one who threw him into such disastrous waters in the first place, the alluring and unnerving dr. mede, and their stories and desires collide in the most fucked up way possible.
i was on the edge of my seat this entire read and the moment i finished, i started talking off everyone's ears about this story because WTF WAS THAT (in the best way possible, of course). i audibly said "ew" multiple times and there were sentences that i would re-read four or five times before i could bear to part from the prose.
be sure to check all the TWs for this read, but if you're a fan of the irresistibility and beauty of the horrific and grotesque, Eyetooth is there, waiting for you to dive in!
disgusting. I’m obsessed. idk what it says about me that I keep reading books and stories with themes of cannibalism and blood sharing and I’m like “fuck, this is so achingly romantic” but I’m gonna try to not think too hard about it
found this as a rec on pinterest and for some reason was really intrigued so immediately found and read it in like 40mins. very easy read but also not cause it is a strange slightly erotic horror. i never read anything like this at all (horror or erotic stuff) so maybe i am just not the audience cause the reviews are like WOAH INCREDIBLE and idk it was interesting and the surgery scene made me a little squeamish but it just kind of existed for me.
again genre not my normal thing so it’s probably just a case of not the right audience but yeh
I went into this fairly blind (I knew it was erotic horror with medical kink but that’s about it) and it was thoroughly disturbing!! I couldn’t look away. Mars has such a captivating way of writing and this was gross, sexy, unhinged - just everything I could want tucked into a neat little package.
“Breathtaking,” they say. “I wish I had more time with you. I’d pry your ribs open and etch my name into your ribs so you’d always remember me every time you get an x-ray, remember that I held your beating heart in my fingers.”
pretty solid! i liked the strangeness and meat and blood imagery of it all. i actually expected this to be more guro esque but it is a novelette after all. to be honest i was in the mood for something really fucked up so I could detox with something cute. This one's definitely not as intense as I'd expected but enjoyable nonetheless
I do have to admit I was a bit put off at the start. The gore wasn't unexpected or even that shocking really, but I think it was just so fantasticly disgusting that I was pretty grossed out at the intial setup. But the more I read the more I craved it, the darkness and the blood and the filth.
The conclusion to the journey was just peak, the dynamic between Adam and Mede was so interesting!!! A fantastic little read as always.
Love me some fucked up gays. I almost expected this to be *more* bloody and gross after that first chapter but it was pretty great as is. The writing was great, I felt like for something so short the character voice/work was pretty clear! It made me really want to read the author's other stuff.
excuse me why didn't anyway tell me I needed this sooner in my life!? why did I wait so long to read this!? life changer! 5🌟 spectacular! I could kiss the two all day and never grow tired.
Disclaimer: I don’t read blurbs but I did know the general content warnings and that it involved body modification.
First chapter: so, so disturbing, but very glad it was not about someone replacing their eyes with teeth or vice versa!
And it went uphill from there. The rest had more moderate horror vibes, so if you made it through the first chapter no issue, the rest should be fine. Has a kind of sweet happy ending (for a horror story)
Please check CWs before reading! This is an 18+ book with some very dark themes and an unhealthy relationship between the two main characters.
CWs include but are not limited to: - dubious consent - medical kink - vivisection - wound fingering - discussion of consensual non-consent - medical malpractice - previous medical trauma - non-consensual body modifications during surgery - discussions of chronic health issues - manipulation - cannibalism - raw animal meat consumption - non-consensual biting - human blood consumption - murder - physical violence - reanimation and necromancy - unbalanced power dynamics (doctor x patient relationship with a 10+ year age gap) - graphic sexual content - trans man using cunt/cock/clit to describe his genitals - nonbinary person described as having a cock

yeah, that's the good stuff right there (messed up freaks who like cannibalism and sex)!!! and also Frankenstein references. it's like it was written just for me!
I read this on a plane and I'm praying I had someone peep my phone lmao. mars never misses, as usual.
