When a freak blizzard descends on Manhattan, Erin O’Reilly plans to take shelter and wait for it to blow over. But Irish mobster Evan O’Malley has other ideas. He’s heard there’s an undercover cop in his organization and wants Erin to unmask the infiltrator. Phil Stachowski, Erin’s handler, is in danger, and he’s gone missing.
Erin finds herself plunging into the heart of the storm. She finds one dead cop and another clinging to life. And that’s not the worst of it. The evidence points to a traitor in the NYPD, a cold-hearted killer who is willing to do anything to get what he wants—the truth about Erin herself.
As the snow and the bodies pile up, Erin and her K-9 Rolf wade through a blinding, deadly flurry of suspicion and danger in which it may be impossible to tell friend from foe until it’s too late. And in the end, the coldest choice will come down to Erin what can she do when protecting her secret means betraying herself?
Steven Henry is the USA Today bestselling author of the Erin O’Reilly mysteries and the Clarion Chronicles.
Steven learned how to read almost before he learned how to walk. Ever since he began reading stories, he wanted to put his own on the page. He lives a very quiet and ordinary life in Minnesota with his wife and dog.
Again another hold by your seat till the last page was turned! Hurry with 'Brain Damage'!!! Ahhh please. Usually at this point in a series I get a bit board. There is just so much trouble you can get in and out of. This next book I'll be better prepared, I'll get food ready to nuke, drinks handy and a DO NOT DISTURB sign on my door, have phone on mute and let the answer thingy take over. What's it for any way? Lol BRAVO Mr. Henry!!!!!
2 Good Cops and 3 Bad Cops: Dead Or Severely Injured!
"Frostbite" is Book 23 of The Erin O'Reilly Mysteries, written outstandingly by Steven Henry. If you haven't read any of these books, please begin with Book 1, "Black Velvet", and ginger read in chronological order. Please see the list of books. After you read " Angel Face" be sure to read "Tequila Sunrise", the James Corcoran story, because every book after those two involve undercover work that Erin O'Reilly is involved in. As always, Rolf, Erin's K9 partner, is my favorite character. He has his own personality that is very funny to read. His three favorite things are chasing bad guys and maybe getting to bite them, his Kong Toy as his reward for being a good boy, and his human, Erin O'Reilly. I really love this series and will thoroughly miss it when or if it ever comes to an end. This episode is about a devastating snow storm/blizzard that hits New York shortly before Christmas. The NYPD has one dead cop and one severely wounded cop, the wounded one shot in the back of the head. Who shot them? This is a story of good cops versus bad cops. It is also about skimming drug money from drug busts; good cop's wife's house being broken into and what she does to a bad guy; and the possibility of Erin's undercover work being revealed. This book is about who she can and cannot trust, and who she has to take a chance on trusting, in order to keep the bad guys from giving her away. I gave this book 5 big fat stars and can hardly wait to read Book 24 when it is available.
I happened to be reading this during a local snowstorm with temps in the teens, so it made the story even more realistic for me. Frostbite starts with "a winter storm warning for the greater NYC area with snowfall predicted to be over 20 inches, with wind chill in the negative double digits." We east coasters are used to this weather and the smart ones stay inside, unless you're in the rescue business and then it's business as usual, rain or shine or blizzard. And Erin has to meet Phil in the subway to discuss the latest in her takedown of the O'Malley clan. Phil is ready to put watchers on the crime family in preparation for the big arrests. Erin asks if Phil trusts the people he will be putting on the job and Phil assures her he trusts them. Then Erin discovers Phil is wrong and at least one person is dirty. The entire story happens in one night. Erin is driving around in the storm, fighting heavy snow and the fear that she will be found out. Phil is missing. Erin heads to New Jersey to check out his home and finds he is not there. A couple of junkies break into the house and Phil's wife proves herself quite adept with a gun. The story is action packed and non-stop mayhem. Of course I stayed up all night to finish it. Another winner for Steven Henry.
New York in the middle of a record breaking blizzard. Erin and Rolf have to drive all over New York thru the worst of it. Good cops. Bad cops. GSWs. What a story!!!
