Larx and Aaron have faced a lot together—small-town prejudice, work injuries, and pregnant daughters. But finally two of their teenagers have graduated and Larx is making moves to lessen his workload in anticipation of Aaron being elected sheriff in the fall. Maybe, just maybe, they can start planning the wedding they’ve longed to have. Then a student goes missing and Aaron’s mentor takes a bullet during the search. Larx and Aaron backburner their plans and jump into what they do best—taking care of their people. They don’t expect to be the ones who end up in danger. While Larx and Aaron struggle to get out of their perilous situation, their family is galvanized into action. Just like Larx and Aaron’s relationship, their rescue is going to take hard work, ingenuity, and a solid sense of humor, but the people whose lives they’ve touched are up for the job. Nobody will rest until Larx and Aaron are safe and sound—and ready to ride off into the sunset toward the beginning of the rest of their lives.

UPDATE
Having adjusted my expectations and eager to see Larx’s and Aaron’s wedding I decided to give this a second try. I’m glad I did because I was reminded again why I loved these guys so much. Thank you, Liya for the gentle “push” 🤣
There’s still not enough of them alone on page, there are still too many characters to count but it was a satisfying read. The bonus scene with the trimmers was hilarious and I loved it .
I got very emotional because of Curtis and I cried for that poor boy and also I got pissed off with Isaiah. I think it was an asshole move on his part to do that to Kellan. He knew Kellan still loved him, he should have come alone or not at all.And Guthrie 🥹😍😍😍 I loved him soooooo. I need the book with him and Tad asap!! 🥹

DNF @20%
Look, as much as I love these guys-and I do love them with all my heart forever and ever- I can’t make myself keep reading this. This stopped being a romance somewhere around 50% in the first book but because Larx and Aaron are my absolute favorite kind of MCs I could push myself to read the first two books even though the family/friends drama was 80% and the romance only 20% . And I knew going into this that Larx’s and Aaron’s big, messy (albeit lovable) families and friends will occupy, just like in the previous ones, most of the book but I can’t force myself with this one when, craving for a kiss or a tender scene between them like a person dying of thirst in the desert, we don’t even get a hug in their own yard at a barbecue party because “Yes we are out to everyone but the kids don’t need to see this and besides, we are private people” . So excuse me if I tap out but knowing that we won’t get much of them anyway you couldn’t even let them kiss and comfort each other considering the little time we have of them together on page????? At 18% in the book?? I hope the author knows that nobody reads these books because of the drama or the mysteries..I promise you we all read them because we love Larx and Aaron. Simple as that.
It pains me but I’m a romance reader after all so you know…the romance has to be at least 50% there . One or two short sex scenes on fast-forward it’s not enough for me. I want them alone on page more than that.
If you like family drama, mysteries , lots of loving family members and 2 amazing MCs with little page time because of their families and jobs then you’ll love this.

My heart is so full right now - such a perfect ending and new beginnings at the same time. I still adore Larx and Aaaron and their extended family. The rescue mission was a bit over the top, but each of the characters shined through it all.
It is not a stand-alone. You need to read and love (or at least a bit enjoy) the previous books to get to this one. And if you do, it's a treat. I loved that the story picked up just several months after the 2nd book ended. There is a separate mystery to solve/crisis to overcome in each book, but romance and family life are the overarching plot. And by family life, I mean not only Larx and Aaron, but their children (both by blood and by heart) and friends as well. Their stories are integral to the book, and I love them almost as much as I love Larx and Aaron.
Every character is a real human being, sex is real, and the worry and problems are real, as are laughs and happiness.
OK, maybe Larx and Aaron are on a heroic side of real, but I believe there are people like them out there. It would be too sad if there were not.
From the plot perspective, it was closer to 4 stars. But the continuous romance, the characters - all of them, found family - 5 beautiful stars.

"Riding into the sunset was a busy life, made up of single days and single moments and perfect kisses—and sloppy kisses and drive-by kisses—but always with the promise that the horizon they were riding toward was one they would reach together"

Its such a long time since I read the other books that I couldn't remember really what was happening so I just read this book as if it was a standalone.
Not much of a mystery. This book focused mainly around the family, and there are alot of kids.
A nice end to the series.

I love this series. I have loved it since it was an idea in Amy's group. It has heart and soul. The whole family is complex and lovely. It makes me want to be a part of that world. Following these two guys over the years as they grow and love each other has been wonderful.

The story has action and drama and love as well as funny moments. I love all of Amy's writing, but I have to say, this series is forever my favorite.

This story brought in a few new faces that, if the back of the book is any indication, we'll get to see more of, which is awesome because there are hopes of Aaron and Larx cameos. I need to know more about the baby and the family as the kids grow into who they are meant to be. I need to see more of Curtis and what the help of this family can do for him. Everyone needs love and Aaron and Larx are more than willing to provide.

This book doesn't just have great main characters, but the supporting characters are so rich and complex just like the two heroes. Yes, Larx and Aaron are totally heroes.

This book and the whole series are must reads.

I'm not even sure what I was expecting, but this book caught me off guard. I went in already confident that I would enjoy it, I've loved the family they built from the beginning, but the poignancy of how Aaron & Larx connect still takes my breath away. I love that no matter what Amy Lane throws at them, and she certainly does not treat them gently, these 2 men know that things are better if they face it together. That they will endure if the world separates them, but they will never be the ones that choose to be apart. It's also beautiful to see the difference that compassion makes, even when everything seems so ugly and hopeless.
I really can't get enough of this family and look forward to seeing some cameos as the author spins-off.

I wish there had been a bit more of Larx and Aaron together but like other installments, the rest of the large, extended family is very present and dealing with their own issues.

I enjoyed the new players in the story who will be getting their spin-off. I also feel like there is more to the Isaiah and Kellan story, and my heart broke a bit for them all over again.

Larx and Aaron do get their HEA and a few things are tied up that were hanging or alluded to in previous books, but while their story is basically finished there will be more to come in their universe.

Ah.... Aaron and Larx at their best. I absolutely adore these two .... and their family.
Their love for each other and their town is inspiring

I am a bit sad that this is their last book but now there are so many new prospects for new books and I can't wait to read them.
Kellan and Kirby need a book ... not sure if I want them to have one together or each his own 🤔
Nevertheless, I can't wait to read more of the residents of Colton

You really, really must read the other Bonfires books before you read this one, or you'll be utterly lost in the first chapter. :) And in several other places. I've loved this series, and I'm so glad that we meet the stars of book 4 herein.

This is part 3 of Aaron and Larx's story, and as is their apparent lot in life, their HEA doesn't come easily, but arrive it does, at long last. I did not mean to read this long book in four days, but that's often the case for me with this author. You'd think I'd know by now that the dire conditions her smart, resourceful, but action-oriented characters find themselves in demand my attention! :)

If you read this as a standalone, you will love it, so similar to the The Long Con stories! But if you have read and remeber the first two book, you will be appalled by the continuity issues. Jaime’s family is from Columbia, not Mexico. He was quite adamant about that. Also Larx was the AP chemistry teacher in the first two books, again adamant the only way he would be principal was if he could still teach that class. In this he was the AP physics teacher. No way could he teach both, if you know anything about AP classes. Also the young adult dynamic changed from the first two. Ugh, I was so excited for this book!

Sunset by Amy Lane is the third installment of the bonfire series. Larx and Aaron find themselves in an adventure neither they nor their family ever thought they would find themselves stuck in. . Finding out a student was missing. As Aaron’s boss Eamon coordinates a raid at a drug house all heck breaks loose, Aaron finds himself in charge of the department, a mystery to solve and finding the missing student. This story sucks you in right away and takes you on a rollercoaster ride of laughing, crying, worrying and sighing as we know Amy is known for giving us. It was the best ride.

Continuity issues

I love this series but there were enough continuity issues in this book it took me out of the story. I hope the next one is better edited by someone familiar with the first books.

I loved being back in this world. Since I read the first two books 5+ years ago, I decided to re-read them in anticipation of this release. While there is enough information in Sunset to remind you of the happenings in the prior books, if you have the time, reading all three back-to-back is a real treat. This installment picks up a little after the last book, with Kirby and Kellen's graduation, where we find out that Curtis McDonald, the jerkwad from previous books, is missing. Eamon reaches out to the Sacramento police for help, and we get introduced to some wonderful new characters. This book is a nice combination of family and friend time (graduation party, kids and adults making decisions about their future, someone always ending up in the hospital), Larx/Aaron time (who make a great team and would love to get married), and action/adventure (the search for Curtis and some bad things happening in town). The pacing is excellent, and I didn't want to put the book down. If you love Larx, Aaron, and their extended family, you will love this book. And although Larx and Aaron's story may be winding down, I am excited that we are getting more stories in this world, the first of which will star some outstanding new characters we meet in this book. I can't wait. I highly recommend this book and all the books in this series.

I am so, so, so, so SO happy to get the final Larx and Aaron book! I reread the first two in preparation and dove into this one, and I am just as happy now that I'm done reading.

This series is a wonderful delve into family (blood and found) with such depth of emotion. These characters are so well developed, I feel like I know them personally, from Larx to Aaron all the way to freaking Wombat Willie (OMG these nicknames, lol).

With another crazy story in this crazy small town and yet another nail-biting resolution complete with an HEA for these two (FINALLY), Amy wrapped up Larx and Aaron's story just enough to give this reader a big smile, but left just enough out there to keep the universe open for more books. Thank goodness, because there are new characters I need to know about, and I am not done!!! I want more!!!

I'm holding this author to ficlets and cameos in upcoming books so that we can find out what happens next. I've been 100% invested in this story from Larx and Aaron's initial meeting in the first book to the final word in this book, and it feels like this family's story is far from done (I'm waiting on some more updates and a few HEAs for some people who deserve em!).

Absolutely recommend this series, and yep, this one (just like the first two) goes directly to the reread pile!

I adore Amy Lane books in general, but Sunset is a great book in a series full of feelings. Each book grabs me in the feels in multiple ways. I really like Larx and Aaron together and seeing their story wrap up was wonderful. They have a very adult relationship, managing their very busy jobs, their kids and major issues related to their kids, as well as important events that happen as they go. Their communication and partnership makes me wish they were real people - they would be great role models in real life. They are not perfect, but they try and try hard. One thing I really liked about this book was seeing how a minor villain in one of the previous books was affected by the consequences of his actions. Not only did he throw away a bright future, but we see in this book how he became the way he was. Even worse, we see how his family both literally and figuratively threw him off a cliff. That he is struggling to climb back up AND with the help of Larx, Aaron and family is a wonderful exploration of a capabilities of humanity.

The romance is great and worth reading. The characters and the events of their lives make the story wonderful. Highly recommend. Read the first books in order though!

Sunset. Whoa. This was one adrenaline-filled book. I’m not gonna say much about the plot because the blurb explains enough. But I am gonna say that you’re gonna fall in love all over again with all our boys and girls. I especially also love the few chapters from Liv’s POV. We have some new characters come into play. We have some old characters getting hurt and redeeming themselves. We have some known characters finally..disappearing. And we have a wedding!!

This was a delightful read (after getting through all the action and knowing everything’s fine). I love how Amy dealt with everything and it’s worth reading this book just because of the great writing. I recently had some bad luck with the writing of a few debut novels I read, so coming back to this was like paradise.

And the next part: now I obviously can’t wait for Torch Song, Guthrie and Tad’s story. As soon as they were introduced I was like „Amy would never dare introduce us to such nice people and not give them a story“. But I NEEEEEEEEED Kellan and Isaiah. I already know it’s gonna hurt. Hurt so fucking much (especially considering the end of Sunset) but they need to get their HEA (together!!)

I went back to the beginning, because it's been a minute, and re-read both Bonfires and Crocus so that I was prepared for Sunset.  How I felt about the first two books was so strong, I just had to make sure that I gave this third one my full attention.  I am so sad that it's done.  I tried to slow down so I didn't finish, but I couldn't.  The whole book was chock full of intense scenes and moments that made me keep reading.  I love this group of people. I would want to be part of them or live next door to them.  There are so many messages in their stories - about love, commitment, inclusion, integrity, compassion, community, stepping up, being thoughtful, being heard, and even more - that you just can't list or discuss them all.  I'm sad the Deputy and the Principal's story is done, but I'm happy to see that we'll be moving along with others in the group. Looking forward to Torch Songs, Tad and Guthrie's story.

It was clear I jumped in the middel of a series, because the first few chapters I was a bit lost. Overwhelmed by all the information that happened before and was just hinted at. Also Lark and Aaron have a rather large blended family, so there are a lot of characters who are important to the story.
It all seems to start with a rather "easy" problem to solve: find Lark's missing ex-student. But than all goes awry and the suspense was almost killing me. The collaboration between all family members and friends was nothing als than amazing. But how could it not be, I mean Aaron and Lark are a primary example of how to care, work together and make the best out of everything.
I think I need to start reading the series from the start, though I'm much more curious about Hawkins and Guthrie's story...

Aaron and Larx have been through so much together, and their love is stronger than ever. When several terrible related events endanger their lives, the men find out what a wonderful job they've done with their children and the other young adults who look up to them. I absolutely hate seeing Larx and Aaron suffer, but I love they way they take care of each other and let their family and friends help them out. I like the road to redemption one character slowly begins to walk. I also really appreciate the chapters told from Olivia's point of view, as she (like the other "kids") is freaking amazing!
This is a wonderful addition to a great series, and it will probably be another reread for me from this author. The ending is worth all the stress!

2.5 stars, rounded up.

Honestly, this was really over the top. The first two books were mostly believable but this one, not so much. Entertaining but definitely not believable. I felt like someone was trying to convince me they caught a huge fish that started out as 10 pounds and by the end of the story, the fish is 40 pounds. It was all just too fantastical.

How is it that the author forgot that Jamie & Berto were from Columbia not Mexico? Jamie sat at the restaurant table in book 2, and made a point of telling Elton’s dad he wasn’t Mexican. Then the author switches it and says their parents went back to Mexico and he and his brother are from Mexico! Seriously?! For some reason this made me feel ick.

Fabulous finish to a great trilogy of stories! Following Bonfires and Crocus, here Amy Lane brings back Principal Larkin (Larx) and Deputy Sheriff Aaron George once again. A missing student, a belligerent parent, and a blow out graduation party set the stage for a mystery-thriller that had me at the edge of my seat while reading.

When Aaron and Larx go looking for the missing student, the rest of their blended family and community must pull together to bring them all back safely. It’s a story that will have you on pins and needles to the very end!

A+ rating. All the stars for this one. This series is simply one of my favorites I've ever read, but I wasn't sure it needed another book. I was so wrong. This book... wow... so good. Perfection!! And the best news... it's now set up for more books to come. I cannot wait.

Aaron and Larx and their found family... they simply make me happy. If I was ever left someplace with only one series to read over and over, I'd choose this one. ❤️❤️❤️

If you haven't read this series, this is your sign... grab it now!! Btw, both books 1&2 are available on audio, and those audiobooks are AMAZING!!!

3.5 🌟

To be honest, I’d rate the book higher but the writing just felt clunky at times. Other than that, I feel like this was a solid conclusion to Larx and Aaron’s story AND a great set up to Tad and Guthrie’s story
ngl, I was a bit nervous about the introduction of the new characters but i absolutely ADORE Tad and Guthrie so I’m really excited for Torch Songs !!!)

p.s. im coming for your neck amy lane bcuz how dare you include references to linda ronstadt’s long long time and expect me not to violently cry

Larx & Aaron

Larx and Aaron have a scary time, a shooter traps them in a mountain side along with a kid they were trying to find and another cop from a different district. Their kids work out a way to bring them home safely. Along the way some new characters are introduced which I loved getting to know.

I really loved this book, just as much as the previous 2 books in the series.

I adore Larx and Aaron with all my heart. It's so refreshing to read a sexy but somewhat realistic (hoping not to get shot so often irl) portrayal of trying to find new love later in life with all the busy shenanigans of kids, jobs, and life in general getting in the way. Amy wraps up the storylines we've followed raptly throughout the series and I love it. I'm so glad we'll get to continue to catch glimpses of Colton's favorite blended family in future stories!

I haven’t read Aaron and Larx for a while, they do get into trouble quite easily.
Their not so little blended family of their children plus othets they have gathered is growing.
They are both looking to the future jobwise but in the now both have ended up, literally, at rock bottom!
So for the most part this is about them surviving but the kids coming to the rescue and proving they are products of Larx’s love and education.
And we get the HEA and so e bonus stories

This is the third book in the Bonfires series. This was a delightful final book with so much love and hope. The characters were wonderful and the pace made it hard to put down. The thing I loved most about this series is it feels real, the situations could happen to anyone. The way they not only love and care for each other, but their children both bio and of the heart. Truly a wonderful series.

Any of Amy's books are a hit for me. And going back into this world is just great. I missed all of these guys and am happy to have gotten more for Larx & Aaron. These poor guys have just been through the wringer, so be prepared to need a tissue or two. But it's worth it so much. I hope there will be more from this world and all of those in it. It feels like coming home

I always enjoy Larx and Aaron

Series has a lot of things that I enjoy. I love the small town stories where everyone knows everyone, I love mixed found families who are fiercely protective of each other.
I like stories that have more than just romance that have a little action adventure mystery, and humor thrown in.
This is a good m/m contemporary romance series.

Larx and Aaron the final installment. What a beautiful love story they share. And their family is something I can only dream of. Seeing how they’ve formed such a strong bond with both their bio kids and the children of their heart warms me from the inside out and gives me hope of my own chosen family. These two had to work so hard to walk down the aisle. Now May they ride into the sunset together with only a tiny fraction of petty crime.
