Max’s to-do list is growing exponentially, and its sheer size and scope would push an ordinary human over the edge! He needs to: - Upgrade Transporters and finish the City-ship Ascension. - Build a gargantuan space station in the Main asteroid belt… and then get it back to Earth. - Help decide on a political and monetary system for the Solarian Union. - Replace the ISS, which was destroyed during the nuclear attack on the Ascension. - Find a cure for a deadly pandemic-creating virus that was genetically engineered in Russia. - Deal with crazy, suicidal terrorists and criminals who want him to pay for ‘protection’. - Activate the Ancient AI-Core retrieved from the depths of the Mariana Trench. - Hack into the Vatican. - Improve and expand his collection of digital food and beer emulations (especially the beer).
And don’t forget about the hackers, spies, internet trolls, Atlantis (yes, that Atlantis), lost children on Mars… and much, much more.
To top it all off, an alien monitoring system has noticed his space probes and construction projects in space. Humanity’s ancient enemies are once again knocking on our door, so now he has to deal with hostile aliens too!
Can he find solutions to all these problems, or will his actions bring about the extermination of the human race?
Whew, this was a good one to sink my teeth into. It's told from a narrative perspective. So don't expect a lot cross dialog between characters, but it's interesting, snarky, and funny.
I've enjoyed the stories and I think of the Max's Logs as a transition to the next book in the series. The logs add interesting details and a bit of humor as you get a refresher on, what I think, is the preparation for the next book in the series. I think the "demons" to be something from the apparently failed "angels" experiment gone awry. I may be off base but it seems the consequences of that short historical note are a tale yet to told. I think Mr. Nikolic has a great series in the making. I down-graded the rating a bit, to no fault of the author, but to the difficulty I had with the reader. I don't know if it is the Kindle reader or the novel but twice the reader failed to go to the next page, the first time I went from, I think in the second chapter, the page I was on to the end of the book. I had to go to the list of chapters and skip to the next chapter to continue reading. The second time I would advance 1 or 2 locations at a time until I could continue reading. I initially though it was the electronic book itself was the problem but when I started another series I experienced the same thing one time early in the first chapter. Had I not already rated the book and seeing the same problem on the next series I started I would have given my rating a boost. Reader/Book??? Where lies the problem??
