This is a Mafia Second Chance Romance, and this is the first book in the Massachusetts Mafia series. This book is full of twists and turns with a ton of action and suspense with a good amount of romance mixed into. I felt the two main characters had a connection and you could feel the love they both had for each other. I was really into the story and I really loved the ending of this book. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

This was a very good book, and Declan is an amazing man. I love 2nd chance romance, and the boy did he and Liv go throu stuff to get to where they are. I'm so excited for book 2, and I can't wait to read it. Conner is the best friend a man can ask for. Poor Drew had to go throu so much, but he is so sweet. I love Mafia books, and this book didn't disappoint it was a slow burn, but it was a very good book.

This was a great story between Liv and Declan. Both just trying to get by in life. They come together again after he holds her hostage. Being that they had a relationship in the past, the yet start talking and entity are able to with through things. The twist and turns in this were wild. I was on the edge of my seat, turning the pages so quickly needing to know what was going to happen next. This was hot and spicy. An excellent read

'Taken by the Monster' is the first book of Mimi Francis' new Massachusetts Mafia Series.

This is a fast-paced story, full of suspense and intrigue. You will fall in love with some slightly shady character and be scared out of your wits by some bad guys.

From beginning to end I did not put the book down once. It was a close call on seeing the sunrise.

If you love dark romance, dark and shady guys fighting evil. Then you will love the action, and spice in this book.

What are you waiting for? Grab your coffee/tea and snacks.

🖤 Happy Reading 🖤.

Olivia "Liv" O'Reilly has been on the run for the last three years thanks to her father for making a deal with the literal devil. She was made to marry Clyde Braniff to join the families as allies. But not every arranged marriage it all sunshine and roses and for poor liv that was the case. What she went through with Clyde is heartbreaking and what a disgusting man he was to do that. She did what she thought was the best and she had to get out, she had help of the man that was her guard who she had formed a bond with Tommy. But she didn’t just leave her sister and family behind she was in a relationship with this man who she loved Declan Quinn and she just vanished one day due to her fathers wishes of giving her to another man.

Now Three years later…..

Olivia "Liv" O'Reilly now known as Olivia Miller is just trying to make ends met and stay out of harms way after getting out of her situation with the relentless pursuit of her former fiancé. All she wants to finally return home and see her family after being on the run for the last three years but fate has different plans as "Declan Quinn" a reputation built on his cunning and ruthlessness, he has become an unstoppable force in the criminal world and now his next stop is the bank in northern Pennsylvania where Olivia works….. now taken on desperation, Declan takes Olivia hostage, hoping to keep her from talking to the authorities about his latest heist. But she was only taken because she recognized him and that only happened because one of his men said his name. As they are spending time together after years apart, a spark snuffed by Liv's father is reignited. But their pasts, coupled with Declan's criminal lifestyle and dangerous reputation, threaten to tear them apart. But now they have bigger fish to fry because Clyde Braniff has been keeping Declan’s younger brother hostage as he does these robberies for hire over the last year, Declan is fed up and has been wanting out and he is only doing this to keep his brother alive but what he doesn’t expect is someone on his team is leaking information to Clyde and then he finds out about Olivia but he only knows there is a girl. But the more time goes on the more they are on the run because Clyde needs to end this loose end that Declan has. But the best part of this book is when Donavan Braniff finds out his nephew has been doing behind his back this whole time and now wants someone else to take over….

The turn of events this book has along with not knowing what was going to happen with the suspense of this book. I finished this in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down.

The outcome of this book everything one who deserves what they have coming does and the happy ending does come for Declan, Drew, Olivia and her family.

Olivia and Declan

— second chance
— mafia
— slow burn

Olivia is working at a bank, missing her old life in Boston. She fled the city and is hiding from her old life and from her ex fiancé. She’s very lonely, having no contact with her old life. She’s living out of a motel and her life is very mundane now, but she can’t risk being found.

As she’s closing up the bank one night, a robbery occurs. Since her manager isn’t there, Olivia is the only employee who can get into the vault when the thieves demand entry. As the robbery progresses, one of the robbers mistakenly says one of the other man’s name. Then Olivia realizes one of the men is her ex boyfriend she hasn’t seen in eight years. Declan doesn’t recognize Olivia initially. Some of the men want to tie up loose ends and get rid of Olivia since she knows Declan’s name, but he kidnaps her instead.

The group of men await their meeting with Clyde, who has Declan’s brother Drew held captive. Clyde is also Olivia’s ex fiancé that she is hiding from. She ran away, disguising herself and changed her name, but now that Declan has brought her into Clyde’s world again she’s in severe danger.

Once the truth comes to light, and Declan realizes his past with Olivia he vows he has to do whatever it takes to keep Olivia and his brother safe no matter what.

This was a good read with action, suspense, secrets and some spice. I enjoyed it, but I did feel like I needed more about Olivia and Declan’s current feelings. It felt like it just relied on their past in order to say they currently were in love. I would have liked to see more development of their relationship. We didn’t get flashbacks of when they were younger either, so really we just were told about their feelings all after the fact.

Overall, this was a decent read if you’re wanting something with more action, suspense and intrigue with a minor romance subplot. I am interested in the next book with Liv’s sister and their dad’s second in command. Forbidden romance always has my attention!.

You will love Declan and Liv - after everything they have both been through, their love is stronger than ever. Will they get a second chance or will circumstances beyond their control put a stop to this “happily ever” from happening? Overall, I would highly recommend this book and you will not be disappointed 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Wow, I'm so in love with this book it had me so captivated, I couldn't put the book down, the story had so many emotions that I even cried in parts and with the characters Declan Quinn and Olivia O'Reilly (Liv). This book was like if you love something enough let it be free if it comes back it was ment to beand if it doesn't it was not to be. Declan is like a fox when robbing banks sneaky and cunning and a fearful brute.
When Liv and Declan were in a relationship eight years ago Liv's father stopped it, her father arranged a marriage with the heir to the Boston Mafia for her, she was trapped locked up with a brutal man, she ran at the first chance. She changed the colour of her hair and coloured contacts.
Declan had changed after Liv called it quits, he won't date anyone since, he is one everyone is scared of, he is a brutal, ruthless, unforgiven, unstoppable force. Declan and his men are robbing banks, they took one female that worked there because she heard his name now they lock her up in a room. Declan feels he has to protect her.
The chemistry between these two was hot and steamy and only gets hotter.

Mimi Francis always develops great characters you care about and can't wait to follow as the pages fly by. Taken By The Mobster is a page-turner, diving into the organized crime world's violent, manipulative, and seedy underbelly. Mimi is always the first to admit that she loves to write tropes, and here in this book, she plays with the ideas of forbidden love, heartbreak, loss, protection, reunion, and chance encounters. All of this is wonderfully entwined together as our lead characters try to find love once again, while also trying to stay alive! I especially love how she plays with the idea of a person trying to hide their identity, but it doesn't last long, almost turning that trope on its head before it can get started. Mimi Francis tells her story but doesn't waste time with superfluous material. She takes you into the dark world of the mafia and isn't afraid to show you both the darkness and the light. A highly enjoyable read.

Taken by the Mobster is a second-chance romantic suspense novel. This book was thrilling and was hard to put down. The premise of the story is that Olivia gets kidnapped by Declan, who doesn’t recognize her as his first love, during a bank robbery, If this is not coincidence enough, Declan is working for Clyde, the villain, who happens to be Olivia’s abusive ex-fiance. Declan isn’t all bad, though. Clyde is extorting Declan into robbing banks in exchange for his brother’s safety

I understand that it was used as a plot device, but It was a bit upsetting that Declan did not recognize Olivia. Olivia states “A woman never forgets her first love. Declan’s forgetfulness discounts his love for Olivia. They may have changed over the years, but could they really have changed that much?

What follows is a suspenseful, action-packed romance in which Olivia is held captive by Declan, who wants to protect her from Clyde. Clyde is a step above a villain and his treatment of Olivia was abhorrent. So maybe after finding out that Clive is close to discovering her again, Olivia is hiding more than she is being held captive.

My only real problem with this book is that it was written in the third person. I have read many books in the third person In my personal history of reading, but after reading so many in the first person it is hard to go back. The third person is an outdated style and also feels really impersonal. You no longer fall into the shoes of the characters and feel that you are living through them. You feel like you are viewing their lives as a third party. It was a lot harder to get into the book and I had to take off a star for this reason alone.

I was captivated right from the start. Taken by the monster written by Mimi Francis is the first book I have read from this author. I was excited to see it's book one of a series. This is the story of Olivia Miller aka Liv O Reilly and Declan Deck Quinn. These two characters had me in tears. Olivia was on the run from her arranged marriage to phyco monster. When Declan steps in to the back where Olivia is working as a teller. When they Rob the back his name is mentioned by one of men. Declan has no choice but to take Olivia. What blew my mind. Olivia and Declan have history eight years ago they were in love. This is the second chance they both get to fall in love all over again. I was on the edge of my seat when Olivia is kidnapped but was fascinated by Declan. The ending was beautiful. It is definitely a must read. I am looking forward to the next book.

The title threw me off but by the and as you read the book you understand why it is title as is it.

I have to say this is the first book I have read by this author and it was written wonderfully.

Live is running from a forced life b6 her father to bridge two warring families but her betrothed, Clyde, is not a good man. Declan is held prisoner by Clyde because he has Declan's brother and has killed his sister. Declan and Liv used to be in love and that all comes back for Liv after being kidnapped by Declan...under duress. This by chance meeting has a domino effect and the ride becomes fast paced, and eye opening!!

I love there are book questions in emd for you to discuss in a book club.

I am sooo looking forward from the Massachusetts Mafia.

I enjoyed reading this book and I loved the Mafia world created to set it in. I liked that the plot was different from many Mafia tropes and that there were layers to the action and drama. The book is pacy and filled with unexpected twists and turns.
I would absolutely recommend others try the book. The reason I went for 3 stars (it’s worth 3.5 but half stars don’t seem to exist) was that I found the scenes with Walsh later in the book didn’t work for me. I found it was too convenient that it was always him turning up, when he’s not that high/important an individual.
I liked the way the book was written and got very invested in the characters so I am sure I will read more by this author in the future.

This was my first book by Mimi Francis and it was an amazing Mafia romance! A pretty fast paced read, full of plot twists, thrills, suspense and a very dangerous MMC. The mafia troupe can be played out with the same storyline in novels, but I loved that Mimi did something different with her storyline and brought the characters to life. The plot twists were insanely juicy and kept me on the edge of my seat. I LIVED for Declan and Liv to have this second chance with each other. It was a page turner and I can’t wait to see where Mimi takes this series next! I will definitely continue reading this series for sure!

This was my first mafia romance, and I certainly don't think it will be my last foray into the genre. Dark and twisted, the hero is just as much a criminal as the villian. Claude is such a despicable character! I couldn't wait for him to get his just deserts in the end.

Olivia is a heartbreaking character to read. Everything she has survived, everything she goes through... She is a badass just for maintaining her humanity through it all.

And Declan, sexy, broody Declan. Nothing is sexier than a man who will dump a body for his girl. Well...almost. What he does with his hands is downright 🌶🌶🌶!

'But their pasts, coupled with Declan's criminal lifestyle and dangerous reputation, threaten to tear them apart.'

The characters drove the storyline and they were very compelling and complex and complicated and perfectly steamy together. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building was excellent and solidly drawn. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.

The premise of this book was very intriguing and overall I did like this storyline. I am a big sucker for a second-chance romance, and the characters both were very redemptive. I do find, however, that I am more of a fan of first-person POV instead of third-person. I did also feel that the writing could be a bit stilted at times but the author did get stronger as the story went on. This book included a preview for the next in series that showed a lot of promise!.

3.75 stars.

Entertaining, fast-paced, and fun. I liked the plot, some of the twists and turns had me rolling my eyes at the outrageousness, but I thought that was part of what made it a good read.
The characters were pretty interesting, quite a variety despite them mostly all being mobsters. I liked Conor and Ruth the most, even though they were side characters. Shane, too. He and Ruth were both badass, lol.

If mob romance or second-chance romance is your thing, then this could be for you. I loved the heart of this short, fast read, and I appreciated how quickly the pace moved and how the story jumped straight into the action. That said, it did feel a little too fast for me, and I missed a lot of the emotional context. Overall, the story felt a bit flat, though that could simply come down to personal preference.

Olivia had been onthe run from her rrainged marriage in Boston, though she missed her family there was no way back, that is until her ex bf Declan robs the bank she works in and takes her hostage. Bringing her back into the criminal world how will things go for her let alone a possible second chance? Well written engaging, desires, drama and more.

Great start to a new series! The author brings strong characters in Olivia and Declan. She moves the story fluidly and delivers a terrific read.

This is such a good second chance romance mafia book. Very captivating & quick paced. The forced proximity and the way Liv and Declan find their way back to each other—pure perfection.

You’re rooting for them the entire time, even while dodging all the chaos that comes with the mafia world. And honestly? The lengths Declan goes for Liv will have you swooning and grinning like an idiot.

Also… screw Clyde.

This book was just ok. The characters were not relatable or likable. Declan was hot and cold - moody like a sulking teenager. Liv seemed pretty helpless and not very interesting. The storyline was all over the place and not very exciting or believable. It was ok.
