Kahlil Gibran (Arabic: جبران خليل جبران ) was a Lebanese-American artist, poet, and writer.
Born in the town of Bsharri in modern-day Lebanon (then part of Ottoman Mount Lebanon), as a young man he emigrated with his family to the United States where he studied art and began his literary career. In the Arab world, Gibran is regarded as a literary and political rebel. His romantic style was at the heart of a renaissance in modern Arabic literature, especially prose poetry, breaking away from the classical school. In Lebanon, he is still celebrated as a literary hero.
He is chiefly known in the English-speaking world for his 1923 book The Prophet, an early example of inspirational fiction including a series of philosophical essays written in poetic English prose. The book sold well despite a cool critical reception, gaining popularity in the 1930s and again, especially in the 1960s counterculture.
Gibran is the third best-selling poet of all time, behind Shakespeare and Lao-Tzu.

A thoughtful exploration of Christ's life. The poetic style adds a unique touch, making it a reflective and insightful read. It's not an exaggeration to say that the wisdom woven into the narrative gives a fresh perspective on familiar stories. If you enjoy contemplative literature, this book offers a quiet depth worth experiencing.

wonderfully done

Not only a moving description of Christ’s message throught poetry and allegory, but so creative in its overall narrative. I couldn’t wait to see how he ended it, and the “Man from Lebanon 19 Centuries Later” was truly impressive.

[May 8, 2025] The Goodreads description said this was an illustrated edition which made me sad because my edition was not illustrated. Did I miss out on a better edition? I very much enjoyed the illustrations in The Prophet, which were done by the author. This book would be improved by illustrations. I enjoyed The Prophet better than this book, hence only four stars for this book as opposed to the five stars I gave to The Prophet. Gibran's prose is excellent, as usual, and I thought it was creative to include chapters exploring what Jesus’s detractors may have thought, not only those named in the Bible like Caiaphas and Annas, but also fictional common people. Like all Khalil Gibran volumes, this is one you ought to have in your library so that you can read it over and over.
