James Acton Thrillers #40

The Heretics Bible

Rate this book
AN ANCIENT TEXT, THOUGHT NOT TO EXIST, HAS BEEN FOUND.
AND THE FIGHT TO DESTROY IT HAS JUST BEGUN.

In the thirteenth century, a battle for control of Christianity raged, pitting the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II against Pope Gregory IX. Both men claimed to be the legitimate leader of the Christian faith, and both would stop at nothing to attain their goal.

Enter the Treatise of the Three Imposters.

Pope Gregory accused Emperor Frederick of penning a text so blasphemous, so vile, he couldn’t possibly remain in power. Gregory asserted Frederick had put in writing his belief that Moses, Jesus, and Mohammed were all imposters, and had lied to their followers.

It was explosive.

And most historians, including Archaeology Professor James Acton, believed it to be a mere baseless accusation.

A fraudulent claim that became known as The Heretics Bible.

But today, when the text is found, all hell breaks loose, as both pious and atheist alike stop at nothing to possess the ancient tome, leaving Acton and those he loves caught in the middle once again as three of the world’s major religions, and those who believe in none, clash.

Number 49 in this James Acton series. It all revolves around a document from the 13th century that could implode the world’s 3 main religions. Found in current day, the race is on across Italy to save this document and investigate its authentic nature. With various forces closing in to destroy it, James and team are forced with danger at every then turn to get this document to the Vatican. Will they be successful and is it authentic? Read it and see!

I truly appreciate the history that this author encompasses within these books telling a back story that goes along with the story of what is happening within. The action scenes leave you feeling like you're watching from the sidelines. Appreciate the struggle in the past as well as the present. Also enjoy the characters that keep appearing and growing from story to story. Reading them in order has been very pleasant and hope they don't end. Keep it up, my friend. You have a fan in me.

Jim and Laura are in trouble again.

I must say l really like the James Acton books. The stories of history are spot on, the action is fast paced and the results, with the help of some friends, is as it should be.
Next adventure can't come soon enough!

Book 40

Reads like all his other books, mixing the past with the present. I enjoy reading his stories like that. The story was interesting and well developed and could be dead in nice flow.

Ok, but religious characters, religious cliches, and themes were overused quite a bit. Would have liked to have read more about the facts to support the “thesis” as well as the lack of facts that support all of religions. Somewhat unbelievable showdowns between the good vs. bad guys.

Barn burner as usual

The professors can get into trouble just by being there. They fight to see history corrected and live to fight another day.

always a great read

Another good book in the James Acton series although a bit of an anticlimactic ending. Can’t wait to see what’s next.

Another wonderful and entertaining read. Lots of action, plenty of characters, mixed with religious fanatics, atheists and regular folks.

Long winded middle, incredibly abrupt end. Left me thinking that the author had to leave for a flight or something - just get it done.
