Lee blunders in making a plan more suited to the Union, attacking deep into the Union. Surprise was the major element because the Confederates did not have numerical advantage. A direct charge at the Union strong Center was a foolish tactic. It was a devastating loss for Lee. Historian say it was an uncharacteristic mistake. Coupled with the loss of the Icksburg siege, it spelled the end of any chances of a Confederacy winning of the war.
Just a short easy to read book about the battle of Gettysburg. One thing I appreciated was the de-bunking of the myth that Gettysburg had a shoe factory and was attacked for it shoes. I am amazed how many people believe this and it is just not true. Gettysburg was a hub for several roads that was the reason for the battle being fought there!
This is a fascinating book. I was always intrigued with the Civil War and reading about the Gettysburg Campaign opened my eyes to some very interesting facts. It is a well written book that has a lot of insightful information and easy to read that provides a better handle on it played out.

Battle books are difficult to write and hard to read. The author's detailed research pours forth on the page and can swamp the reader. I found this narrative clear and lots if very useful maps. The vingette biography of generals as they appear in the narrative was a clever idea
