Monica is a 30 year old school teacher who didn't become sexual until her late twenties due to a sexual trauma at a young age. She meets Victor at a club and they quickly find they are extremely sexually attracted to one another. Monica is okay with having a temporary sexual relationship, but the more time she spends with Victor it becomes clear to her that she would like more. Unfortunately, Victor has secrets he isn't willing to share and makes it clear that he isn't able to give her a relationship.
I'll start by saying that I did enjoy the intense sexual chemistry Monica and Victor shared. It was obvious how compatible they were and how much joy they brought to one another. That said, I found a lot of the dialogue choppy and repetitive. I understand that Victor was trying to get a point across, but I got a little tired of him reciting the same line about how Monica shouldn't fall in love with him and how he would never give her a relationship. I definitely got frustrated with both characters at times, especially Victor for having such a shitty secret, and for being so stupid about how he was handling everything. Through it all and despite my finding many of Victor's behaviors completely undesirable, I was still hoping both Monica and Victor would their acts to gather and just be together like they both deserved. I did enjoy Kat a lot, and I will be continuing on to read Ana and Teddy's story next.

I rated "Fire In His Eyes" by M.J. Nightingale five stars because it grabbed me from the beginning and held me throughout the entire book. I found it believable and very true to life.
The characters are well developed. Monica and her sister, Ana, are quite a team. Ana is a woman on the move, typically from one man to another, and she is determined to help her sister find a man--something Monica has been avoiding for years. She had a safe, uncomplicated 'friends with benefits' relationship, but there is more to living and loving than that.
Victor's demons are not immediately evident. With sex appeal oozing from his pores and a fire in his eyes for Monica, he is clear about what he wants from her AND what he doesn't want right from their first meeting. He is also very descriptive when speaking, telling Monica what he will do to please her. Hot, hot sex scenes prevail.
But wait, there is more. This is a wonderful love story that will not disappoint the reader.
I was given this novel for a beta read and edit. It was my pleasure to work with this author; congratulations M.J. on a work very well done!

After an incident left Monica nervous about men, Monica finds herself thirty, single, and attracted to a man who has keep at a distance written all over him. She can't fight the attraction though and an intense affair ensues.
Victor is starting over and although Monica is they type of girl he would give anything to have, he can't. Victor is carrying a secret that he is unwilling to share, even when he falls head over heels for Monica. Sometimes doing what is right can have two paths, but Victor needs to decide which one he wants to take.
I thought this was an intriguing story Initially Victor is a bit blunt and your not sure what he is about, but as Monica's and Victor's story develops you begin to see he is a man who is dealing with an eternal struggle. The chemistry is off the charts, an excellent read.

I had the honor of beta reading this book and it got my attention from the moment I started reading it. I only rated it 4 stars because I would have liked a little more back story on the characters and how the reacted to some things in their pasts.
this book tells a great love story about a woman who finds love after a tragic event and a guy who puts his family first and will keep every secret he can to do so. I don't want to give too much away in this review so I will leave it at that. This is a beautifully written story with plenty of hot sex and angst to make that much better. I can't wait for it to be released so I can read it again with any changes from the author.

Really enjoyed this book, couldnt put it down actually as soon as I started. I was pulled into Monica's and Victor's relationship and couldnt wait to see where it would take them. Totally recommend :)

I saw an excerpt on Facebook, and that was me hooked. After a quick message to the author needing to know how long I would have to wait before I got to read it, I found I was soon counting down the days!
I have to say the rest of the book DID NOT DISAPPOINT! WOW, it was hot! It was moving! It was riviting! It was passionate! Did I mention HOT? Holy melting knickers...
Right from the start, I was hooked. I didn't want it to end, but I couldn't put it down at the same time.
Monica is still dealing with a horrific event that happened to her years before. Her sister, Ana, is worried that she is starting to slip back into her old reclusive ways, so takes action and drags her out for a night of flirty fun. That was the night she met Victor. He shocked her with his forward nature, but she also found herself turned on by it. I have to say, she wasn't alone!!
When they go out for their first date, Victor is straight with Monica about just what he can and can't/won't offer her. She thinks she can handle his terms, but soon realises that she is out of her depth. Victor is hiding secrets, but she doesn't have any idea what they could be. She doesn't push him in the hope that he will trust her eventually and let her in. He doesn't...
Although their relationship does develop in other ways, there is always a piece of him that Victor holds back. Over time, her sister becomes suspicious and makes Monica ask Victor the questions she has been avoiding. The answers she gets rip her heart out. And mine...
Victor isn't a bad guy, he is trying to deal with things the best way he knows how. He is trying to do the best for his loved ones, but at the same time he is risking his own peace of mind and happiness. He cannot see how his actions are not just making him miserable, but also those that he is intent on protecting also.
I loved how even though I had a fair idea of what Victor was hiding, seeing everything play out and unravel was what kept me riveted. But I could never have imagined the lengths Victor was prepared to go to. He has a sense of loyalty, no matter how screwed up, that you can't help but admire.
There was not one part of this book that I thought was slow. The flow of the storyline was consistent, always making me want to know more, always making me want to turn the page to see what else was uncovered. The different sides to Victor's nature, the developing inner strength of Monica, they all had me glued.
This is M.J. Nightingale's debut novel and on the basis of this book, I will be looking forward to all her other future projects.

This is a fabulous fast paced novel about love, rising above fears and insecurities, and accepting your loved ones – warts and all. I enjoyed this book. The main character, Monica, is a rape survivor who has put her life together. Monica is an avid runner and teacher who has broken up with her one and only boyfriend (who really was more a friend with benefits than anything else). Her sister insists she get ‘back on the horse’ and get out of her self-imposed, celibate, rut. While out at a local club she meets a man who gets her motor running. Victor is retired military, sexy as hell, and emotionally unavailable.
As their relationship develops, Victor warns Monica:
Um, all my spidey senses went haywire (can anyone else spot a married man?), and I wanted to warn Miss Monica to stay away from her hot man! But, alas, that is impossible. Monica falls head over heels with Victor, but knows that her man is very complicated and secretive.
Will Monica be able to handle all of the baggage that Victor is carrying? Can she really love him-warts and all? Will Victor be able to trust in Monica’s love, be able to get his life in a direction that is emotionally healthy? WOW, what a read. It begins with Monica at a young age going through a terrible incident that leaves her dramatized for a period of time. Years later after only being with same guy in a friends with benefits relationship her sister Ana talks her into getting back on the saddle again. This is when she meets Victor.Victor is HOT, SEXY, and knows what he wants from her and isn't to shy about voicing it. He shows Monica things she didn't know that was possible in the world of orgasms. Let me tell you the sex and passion between the two was so flammable that if you would light a match they would explode. I needed a cold shower after reading certain scenes. Victor is upfront with Monica in a way by telling her he doesn't have time for a commitment, and can't tell her the reasons why except for family obligations. Victor's commitment issues left me a little frustrated but I knew he had to have some good reason behind it. Monica doesn't really want this type of relationship but it is the only way she can be with him, she will take it. I understood Monica's reason in sticking with him even though she knew there was a possibility that nothing would change, like most of us we believe in hope. As their relationship really starts affecting Monica she asks him a certain question that will change their relationship dramatically. This is when I had my OH MY GOD moment because the answer he gives I did not see coming.I mean I had all these thoughts going through my mind about what Victor was really doing but none of those were correct. By this point in the story I knew I would not be putting this book down until I had all the answers I was looking for, and I found them. The way the book wrapped up was perfect. I was emotionally connected with the characters and felt their happiness, sadness, and love. I most definitely recommend this book. It has the right amount of everything.
"He rested his forehead on mine for a second breathing hard, trying to regain control, and then he pulled back and gave me that grin. The grin that was just a little lop sided, and made that delicious dimple appear in his cheek. It was sexy as hell."

Ok give me a minute here to collect my thoughts......Can I say that YOU Ms. MJ Nightingale are like my new girl crush! Can I say that I am still having some after-affects of this SEXY, HOT, AMAZING book! You my dear have an AMAZING debut novel! Monica is 30 and has had a traumatic event happen to her when she was 17, something not easy to get over. Victor is 35 out of the Army, he too has some demons to deal with. When Monica's sister Ana tells her let's go to the club she kinda freaks out.. this is her sisters response.." WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO? GO THE GROCERY STORE AND CHECK OUT GUYS FOR RINGS, OR HAVE ME DRAG YOU INTO HOME DEPOT AND ASK EVERY CUTE GUY IF HE IS SINGLE? YOU'RE SUCH A VIRGIN! Victor Ciccone is in his mid-thirties, has recently retired from the military and “His ice blue eyes burned with fire…”. He’s not looking for complications and he won’t make promises, but he can’t help himself when he sees Monica at the bar. He knows what he wants and it’s her under him in bed or against a wall either will do. He’s honest with her saying “Don’t fall in love with me. I’m pretty busy. I don’t want entanglements, arguments, or drama…”
Victor is very upfront, a little too upfront for me. The first night they meet he tells Monica that the next day he “… will take you to diner, take you home, and I want to be crystal clear about this, then I am taking you to bed.” I almost dislike Victor because he seems a bit arrogant to me, but boy does he deliver. The sex in this book is HOT. Like an ice bath won’t help you hot!!
Victor has secrets and Monica is willing to take what he gives but for how long? At first I was mad at Monica for taking the scraps Victor was giving her, but I couldn’t help but fall in love with the story. Victor definitely has issues but honestly who doesn’t? Monica has issues from her past too but she is willing to try anything at least once and this amazes Victor. She is a strong woman, which is not common in literature, so that right there is a huge plus. I highly recommend this book and give it 5 stars and 5 (or more) hands down the pants!!

4.5 stars!! Fire in His Eyes is an unexpected and very, very enjoyable story about two very relatable people. Once I started, I literally could not out this book down! Monica is a shy teacher who meets the handsome Victor and is immediately very much attracted to the sweet and very, very sexy ex-military man. These two are normal people with normal jobs but some heavy emotional baggage. Victor makes it crystal clear from the beginning that he wants no strings attached, but his actions belie his words, leaving Monica stunned and very confused. Victor puts up some major emotional barriers for very good reason. The sex scenes between these two are absolutely off the charts and they are reason enough to read this book! Have a fan and a cold shower ready. The story is surprisingly engaging and very, very emotional. I felt very connected to these characters so I was on the edge of my seat for the last 25% of this book.

He has issues and is upfront about his inability to commit. He’s willing to offer Monica sex and no more. Even his time is limited. Monica agrees to his terms. She wants to get as much of him as she can. However, Victor has secrets. He never talks about his family. He can only see Monica one weekend a month and one night a week. What is Victor hiding? Can Monica handle a relationship with Victor without losing her heart?
I had mixed feeling about this book. I did end up enjoying it. It had some very hot scenes. However, I found the beginning to be hard to read. I found Victor’s dialogue to be…Hmm… I guess cheesy is the only word I can come up with. I really didn’t like the way he spoke to Monica in the beginning. Some might find it sexy or erotic, I didn’t. I did continue to read and the book did definitely redeem itself. I loved the twists and turns the author threw at us. There were times I wanted to just slap Victor silly. I hated the way he only thought of himself. He was very selfish. I was overjoyed when Monica finally stood up for herself and realized she deserved to be put first. I was happy with the ending. It had a great conclusion. Overall, a good read.

I found Victor’s dialogue to be…Hmm… I guess cheesy is the only word I can come up with. I really didn’t like the way he spoke to Monica in the beginning. Some might find it sexy or erotic, I didn’t. I did continue to read and the book did definitely redeem itself. I loved the twists and turns the author threw at us. There were times I wanted to just slap Victor silly. I hated the way he only thought of himself. He was very selfish. I was overjoyed when Monica finally stood up for herself and realized she deserved to be put first. I was happy with the ending. It had a great conclusion. Overall, a good read.

Victor and Monica’s story was not what I expected. They meet in a bar, things get hot fast- and then Victor puts on the breaks at every turn. He tells Monica that he can give her one weekend a month a maybe a day during the week. And he has secrets that he can’t share. So don’t ask. And don’t fall in love with him because he offers no promises. Monica, for some reason that I still cannot fathom, falls for the jerk.
And then we learn Victor’s secrets. If it was me, I would have been out of there and I wouldn’t have looked back. But the heart wants what the heart wants and Monica’s wanted Victor. Monica was a neat character with an interesting past in the romance department. Victor was not for me. He came off as a bit of a jerk for most of the book. Once things were out in the open he was sweeter, but it was too late for me. Plus, this book was a little too wordy for me. I appreciate good descriptions and all that, but some things don’t need to be said. I felt like there was a lot that could have gone unsaid and there were some things that could have been expanded upon or made more clear.
This was an okay read for me. Someone else may enjoy it more than I did because it is certainly an interesting story, but I just never got that attached to the characters. M.J. Nightingale is not a bad writer and I will keep a look out for future work from her that may appeal to me better.

This story surprised me! In the beginning, it was about a woman who had been raped and 10 years later she’s ready to start living again. She meets Victor in a club. He’s gorgeous, sexy, and definitely not shy about telling her what he wants to do to her and what he wants her to do to him. (I’ll be dreaming about Victor for months) One night between them turns into months and the sex is off-the-charts!!! This is where the story changes a bit. There’s one problem…he has secrets. He tells her that he has secrets and that there are things he can’t tell her and he’s not sure if he’ll ever be able to tell her. No, I won’t tell you what those secrets are because I HATE spoilers, but WOW! When I first started reading I thought this would be a good story about lots of amazing sex but I was wrong. This is about tons of HOT sex and a fantastic story line. My emotions were all over the place! This story line is so much deeper than I originally thought it would be. I love it when an author surprises me like this! Thank you MJ Nightingale for giving me one for “my favorites of 2014″ list. Phew! This one was HOT!

I was pulled right into the book. The chemistry between this two is off the charts HOT.
Monica suffered a trauma when she was younger and is not very trusting of men. She had a friend she was involved with that she did trust but he moved away. One night at a bar she meets Victor. Victor knows exactly what he wants from Monica and bluntly lays it out.
Victor has secrets. He wants NO relationship but Monica believes they should be together. He is her soul mate. Can they work through the secrets and build a relationship? Was not thrilled with the secret and really wondered if she would have stayed after finding it out…….
I recommend this book. Can’t wait for the next book in this series.

This was a really great read that I did not want to put down. I totally loved it.
Monica is a thirty year old school teacher with trust issues. She's only ever had one boyfriend and didn't feel the electricity she should have felt. After a year of being on her own she is coaxed to go to a club with her sister. Here she meets Victor and her life has changed. My feelings for these two kept changing, especially Victor. I didn't like the way to treated Monica.
Promises and lies... Yes this book is full of it. Also got some brilliant sexy hot scenes.
I'm really looking forward to reading book two.

I absolutely loved this book it was fantastic. I had a hard time putting it down it just drew me in. Monica and Victor click right away and their relationship is hot hot hot, but Victor has secrets and doesn't want to commit (enough said there don't want to spoil anything). anyways this book was a very believable story and I think that's why I loved it so much because it was realistic and I loved that. very awesome work on this M.J. now I kinda wanna know what happens will Ana Monica's sister (hint hint lol)!

I loved everything about this novel and would recommend it to anyone well as long as your 18+ anyways. LOL. I loved the sex seens and the romance and fun of this novel. I couldn't put it down long enough.

I really loved this book. It's one of those books you just can't put down. My emotions were all over the place. Victor and Monica seemed to be the perfect couple, but Victor's secret just would not allow it. It was a well told story and I really enjoyed where there story went, and how it showed that sometimes you never know who your perfect match might be.

MJ Nightingale gives a burning passionate love story. One that is steamy and hit but filled with emotion. Monica and Victor most certainly have issues big ones. Ones I didn't see coming at all. The author did an excellent job writing this book. The story line was frighting and twisted . But also heartbreaking. The characters were dealing with a lot of issues mentality and physically. The book was just a WOW book. Something you to read and not put down..I enjoyed the book.

I just love Monica and Victor. My eyes did sweat a little bit. I think it could have got to the point soon. I'm glad at the end victor came to his sense.
