Oliver Blake is arrogant, rich, and a giant pain in the arse.

His face is currently being plastered on every magazine across
the country. Since drowning his sorrows at the bottom of a
bottle isn’t helping him get back on the field, he’s forced to
take action.
His saving grace comes in the form of a pink-haired ball of
chaos who knows nothing about football and couldn’t care
less who he is.

Fallon Lowell is unemployed, nearly broke, and desperate to
prove herself to her family.

They both have the same goal: get their careers back on
track. Fallon is offered the chance of a lifetime to write a
tell-all book about the notorious player. Too bad neither of
them can have a simple conversation without bickering.
Underneath Oliver’s sharp exterior, Fallon begins to see a
glimpse of the man behind the celebrity and the tension
between the two of them ignites.

But fame has a price. As things start heating up and the
truth begins to come out, they both have to decide if they
can trust each other... or if they’ll let fear get in the way.

ARC review:
This is a book that all sports romance novel fans need to get their hands on!
The characters are relatable and realistic, with thoughtful motivations and realistic reactions to events and circumstances. I really appreciated that the plot itself was also realistic, as every moment didn't need to be life or death, and there were just 'normal' scenes between characters that really served to develop their relationships.
Also, the banter????? THE BANTER????!!!!! I have never read better banter between two characters EVER BEFORE and I was absolutely obsessed. This book deserves five stars just from this alone, but then you take in to account the spice (*chef’s kiss*).
Now, the beginning of this book was a little on the slow side and I feared this would continue throughout the whole book, but boy was I wrong. From the 50% mark, the book flew past. My eyes couldn't take in the word fast enough; I was hooked!
There were a few little issues I had with the book like some of the formatting and editing choices but there wasn't anything necessarily wrong with these, and I think this is just my author side picking these up!
Overall, a fun and light-hearted read with characters all readers are sure to become obsessed with! I would highly recommend this book to all romance readers.

ARC READER REVIEW

I want to thank Adeline for letting me have the chance to read this book as an arc reader, so thank you so much! I also congratulate Adeline for having such an amazing book as her debut!

Now onto the review:

I could've read it less time, but I didn't want to say goodbye to Fallon and Oliver. Their random first encounters. Their stories. Their story, the one they built together.
It was a five-star read. I related to Fallon, especially as someone on the curvy side, I felt her and I felt seen. As a football lover, how could I say no to this book? And thank god I said yes because if Oliver was real, you bet I'd watch all of the games and even more football! That man was purely written by a woman perfection, so thank you, Adeline!
Overall, this book was just the perfect book to start 2024 and I'm so thankful for reading and being chosen to do so. I loved it and I want to re-read it right now.

I was lucky enough to be given an ARC copy of Adeline Brown’s new novel, and I have never felt so lucky.
Ever read a book that sucks you in into its universe, and when it’s time to leave, you really don’t want to?
Well that was exactly what “On The Sidelines” had me feeling.
A book with spice, with passion, with moments that have you gasping. It has it all.
The characters are abundant and full of personality and life, and I mean it’s Oliver Fucking Blake!
The lead lady Fallon, is out there in her plus size glory making me a fellow plus size lady relate in ways I often struggle to in books.
I am so glad and incredibly lucky I was picked to review this book. Because I can’t simply imagine my life without it now ❤️

ARC REVIEW ❤️❤️

So this book, for me I rated 5/5

I was so happy to get an ARC (thank you Adeline )

Sports romance ✔️
Rom com ✔️
Spice 🌶️✔️
Stressful moments with growth ✔️
Epic bff relationship ✔️

This book to me is 5/5 because it is exactly what she said it would be, it’s cute it’s funny it’s hot it’s stressful.. the characters growth is much like how someone would be in real life, not always 100%.. the inner dialogue I liiiived for. The way Fallon talks to herself I felt like I could relate to her passive aggressive sarcastic comments about others and herself.

The FRIENDSHIP between Rosie and Fallon, oh my GOD I want a friend that rides for me as hard as these two ride for eachother. I think this shows true best friendship and I think it’s a really special part of this whole story.

I love how the struggles of the characters were so realistic and I felt myself immerse into this story. I felt all the feels and emotions that they were going through, Adeline is a very talented writer.
The part where Fallon is having a panic attack and he shows up.. like I died I loved that so much. And the banter between the brothers kept the story really funny as well. I was entertained the whole time.

The SPICE is exactly what I could have asked for in this book. 🥵 🤤 Oliver is hot.

I have read this book 3 times now.

Waiting for my paperback in the mail for my bookshelf 💜

This is the first ARC I’ve ever read and reviewed so it feels extra special to my heart I love it

I’m not really a huge fan of sports romance (mainly because I don’t understand sports), but I’ll say this—this book was super easy to read and follow. The sports references were kept to a minimum, which I appreciated.

I absolutely loved Rosie's character—she was fierce, funny, quirky, and the ultimate loyal hype woman, and I’m totally here for it. As for Fallon, though, I’m not going to lie, she made me feel a little down. She has no belief in herself, lacks self-esteem and confidence, and every time something ‘bad’ happened, my first thought was, ‘Is she going to run off, hide, or feel sorry for herself?’ - it got old fast (though maybe that's just a me problem).

That said, I really did enjoy the story (classic jock and shy/bumbling girl dynamic), and the banter and spice levels were just right. 🌶️👌

PS - Fuck Ashley! 😡

✨ARC REVIEW- ON THE SIDELINES✨

A HUUGE thanks to Adeline Brown for the ARC of her debut novel, On the Sidelines in exchange for an honest review.
_________________

This is her first novel but if this is anything to go on, she’s gonna go far because this book SLAYYYS.

This book follows hot mess central Fallon, after she’s been fired from her job and trying to claw her way back into the publishing scene and grumpy AF Oliver, a professional football player (soccer for those pesky Americans- I may live in the UK now but it’s still hard to not call it soccer lol) who’s been suspended after a huge scandal involving his ex girlfriend and former friend/team manger.

This is a hilarious, banter filled rom com that is sweet and spicy with enough drama and emotional upheaval that will keep you invested until the last page.

Did I read this entire book in one sitting? Yes. Did I want to re read it immediately because I didn’t want to say goodbye to Fallon and Oliver? Also yes.

Oliver will make all your book boyfriend dreams come true. Fallon will make those of us plus size girls feel SEEN, along with her anxiety and feelings of insecurity. She’s the perfect imperfect heroine and I couldn’t help but root for her.

I can’t wait to see what Adeline Brown brings us next, but I think I’ve found my next auto-buy author.

From the very first page, I was HOOKED. Completely, utterly, obsessively hooked. Fallon and Oliver were amazing! They felt so authentic—flawed yet lovable. Every single aspect of this book pulled me in DEEP, and I never wanted to leave.

And let’s talk about the banter—PURE MAGIC. The back-and-forth between Fallon and Oliver was absolutely unmatched. Sharp, sizzling, hilarious, and downright electric. The kind of banter that makes you smirk, blush, and scream into your pillow because it’s just that good. And the chemistry?? Ughh everything!! I was so completely immersed, the real world straight-up disappeared.

I could rave about this book forever, but bottom line— you need this in your life! It's fun, emotional, spicy, and packed with characters that will live rent-free in your head for eternity.

ARC review:

This book is effortlessly funny and wonderful. I had such a fun time reading it!

And the spice...? When it's on, it's on!

The banter is brilliantly done. I couldn't stop giggling. As an Aussie reader, the British humour was pretty close to home. It had me kicking my feet under the covers and wetting myself a little.

I'm still shocked this is Adeline's first novel. Truely, I'd think she'd been doing this for years.

Fallon, the FMC, is so colourful. I adored her.
Oliver is the broody MMC, who after Fallon has cracked through his shield, you find is the biggest golden retriever boyfie.

Rosie, Fallon's bestie, is unhinged and I reckon she could talk me into committing crimes so unspeakable I'd be put away for multiple life times. She will threaten bodily harm if you hurt Fallon.

3.5*

I enjoyed this book. I liked Oliver at lot. I found him witty, straightforward, and I loved how he came through for Fallon
I did like aspects of Fallon, like her loyalty and her relationship with Rosie. She's down to earth and had witty moments and doesn't back down from Oliver.

However, what really bothered me in this book is Rosie's option on her body. it is not body positivity when fmc hates her body. Regularly talks about how she hates her body and does nothing to improve the health of her body. I feel bad for size 18 readers who are going to be bombarded with all of her negative opinions on herself. There is no moment in this book that fmc is confident in her own skin. Sure, Oliver is into her and makes her forget for short periods of time but I needed some sort inner self love.
She talks about being hungry a lot too. I just don't love it. I'm here for curvy fmcs that are feeling themselves and mmc loves their curves. The occasional moment of self doubt about one's body type is normal but this was a massive part of this book and too big a part of Fallons personality.

Fallons family are trash and I don't know why it took her so long to dump them?

I really really loved George and Rosie. excellent side characters. I really would love their book.

I feel like the chemistry between Oliver and Fallon was a bit spotty. I loved them as friends but I would have enjoyed a little more flirt. A little more Oliver thinking about her lustfully before boom kissing. However, the "stay" moment really had me 🫶 that entire section of the book was just lovely. The banter between the four of them. Oliver's vulnerability.

All in all, it's an enjoyable and easy read with no OW OM drama (although exes who are both horrible humans are discussed regularly and appear in the plot).

*3⭐️ 3.5🌶️(look on my profile to see what my ratings mean to me)

Main trope-
Dual POV
Sports Romance⚽️
Grumpy x Sunshine/ Chaos

I’m not a sports person only when it comes to books though. What I loved about this book is the storyline just flowed and hooked me instantly. I also love the fact that his sporty and she’s plus size (coming from a plus size girlie myself) getting a chance at love regardless of their size. I rarely see plus size characters being the main characters which is a big thing for me. I love love the drama in this book the more the better in my opinion. Something I didn’t like was when speech happens the indicators are ‘ ‘ but I wish they are “ as they are more clear. I wish I got to see more of Oliver’s and Fallons relationship. Overall I think this book is amazing but there are still somethings missing for me.

Can’t wait to read more from Adeline Brown in the future…

I absolutely adored this book…
Fallon felt so damn real! Her deep rooted insecurities didn’t feel contrived like some plus sized FMCs do, she worried about the same sort of things I’ve heard and felt a million times. But that doesn’t stop her from being outwardly fierce & brilliant, with the help of her best friend Rosie (because they’re both utterly amazing together).
Oliver is cocky, arrogant, charming and ultimately adorable. I know he’s not to start with, but he really is… or maybe it’s all just for Fallon. Either way, I love him 😂

The humour is phenomenal, so much so I actually cried laughing a few times.
But I also cried a few times too… because sometimes things are just sickeningly sweet and you have to have a bit of a blub.
5⭐️ 3🌶️ Would absolutely recommend!

(ARC REVIEW ♡ spoiler free!)

this book. holy shit. it was so much more than my wildest dreams could’ve ever imagined. i think this should be a priority read to anyone and everyone!
some of the tropes to convince you <3
— plus size fmc
— footballer bf x writer gf
— dual pov
— protective mmc
— BANTER!!!
— ‘you came?’ ‘you called.’
— forehead kisses

Fallon Lowell was written so beautifully. i love watching her go from having these constant doubts about almost everything, even if she had a confident facade, to her having her own opinions she truly believed in! i think she’s such an important character who could help a lot of people become more confident in themselves, especially to people who have a similar family dynamic as her. i love her so much, she’s so baby. AND I ADORE HER PINK HAIR 💓💗💕💘

Oliver Blake is a character that is actively struggling with grief, but is working to get his life back on track. after losing everything he had ever worked for, he obviously had a lot to deal with and process. i love how his brother, George, was always there to pick him back up when he fell. watching Oliver deal with everything he had to, whilst keeping such a strong front on, was kinda of heartbreaking but also so important to this book.

Rosie and Fallon’s relationship was one of the most important relationships in this book. the way Rosie was only a phone call away, she always turned up, she dropped everything for Fallon, she was always there to support Fallon in every decision was so special. she was the balance and constant that Fallon needed. every time she was at a low, Rosie was pulled her back up to a high.

saving best til last, Fallon and Oliver!! oh. my. god. they were perfect. they were so “sunshine x sunshine protector”. i love them with my whole heart. any time either one was ever in trouble, the other was there holding their hand. their dynamic was AMAZING, and their banter?! AOJDIEJEHWHS

the point is, i LOVE this book so much and i’m begging you all to read it when it releases, February 2nd <3

I loved this book from the moment I started reading it! I was reading every second I could and finished in under a day.

Fallon and Oliver are so easy to fall in love with. Fallon is amusing, feisty, and so relatable as a curvy woman with insecurities and a toxic family. She’s seeking new employment after a dramatic end to her previous position, while trying to hold on to her self-worth. No thanks to the previously mentioned toxic family. Thankfully she has a best-friend who is better than family. Someone we could all dream of to have in our lives.

Oliver is a beautiful, superb athlete caught in a scandal and so much deeper than meets the eyes. He’s struggling to save his passion and career, while also trying to maintain some semblance of privacy for his family.

I experienced all of the emotions while reading. I absolutely loved the comedy in the book. It felt natural and realistic. But when the characters were enraged, heartbroken, aroused, falling head over heels, scared, guilty, or any other emotion that may have come through, I genuinely felt that with them. They were stunning.

The spice is perfectly appropriate, and so much consideration was given to the emotions of a plus-sized main character. I don’t want to give away spoilers but it’s all handled so incredibly well.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

On the Sidelines (ARC review) by Adeline Brown

I’ve been sitting on this one for a couple of days. I’ve decided that I really enjoyed everything about it!

At first I was finding the female main character Fallon hard to read about because of the body shaming she does to herself and the way her family and even the male main character talk about her and her weight. It was a trigger warning I was aware of but I didn’t realise how uncomfortable I felt about it. In the end, Fallon’s character development and the way Adeline takes this part of the story was done super well (not going to spoil it) but let’s just say I ended comfortable with it all and applaud the way Adeline has written it .

The character development of the male main character was also written well and I found myself having a love hate relationship with him through out the entire book
The inclusion of Rosie and George brought more banter into the story!

There was some spice which was spot on 🫠

I recommend this to anyone who enjoys
-sports romance
-plus size rep
-rom com
-grumpy x chaos
-spice

This book follows Fallon through difficult times after she has been fired from her dream job because of lies and cheating. She then meets Oliver, an ex-footballer, who is going through his own version of this issue but his is obviously amplified through the media and lies spread by his ex-girlfriend. They then come to a decision to work together on a mutually beneficial solution.

Set in London with all British characters which makes me a bit biased but I absolutely loved this book because of it. It just felt so realistic to me because all the struggles they were going through were so real and relatable.

I absolutely loved the characters and they just felt so real to me. They were funny and caring and just beautifully written.
Adeline did an amazing job at writing this book. It hooked me from the first page and I couldn’t stop reading. So funny but it also bought some really good topics into question within the book and they fit so well with the characters and the plot and relationships in this book.

I genuinely loved this book and wouldn’t change a single thing.

Definitely worth reading and just so emotional for me.

I really enjoyed this story. It was a little slow start and I do admit that I skipped through some of the dialogue with her best friend at the beginning of the story. I did really like Oliver's brother and Fallon's best friend (they are the subject of the next book which I am looking forward to). Fallon's family is really horrible and so is her ex.

After the slow start it really picks up and I liked the banter between all the characters and the spicy scenes. It was great that Oliver is attracted to Fallon the person, not just her physically. It was a great portrayal of a heavier woman with low self-esteem due to how her family and society treats her. Both main character have "secrets" which could have been told earlier in the story. The way they all wrap up was great. Definitely recommend!

Okay wow this book was amazing. Fallon and Oliver are seriously the cutest, their love and trust for eachother is unmatched.

Oliver proved over and over again how much he truly wanted Fallon and how much he loved her. That man would do about absolutely anything for her, same goes with Fallon. I loved seeing her doing stuff nothing only for herself but Oliver.

Also Rosie is seriously the best 🤭😭 I need a Rosie is my life asap !!!!

Fallon is the sweetest and most strongest women out and i’m so glad she got her prince charming 🤭

This book was truely so so wholesome and i cannot wait to read more by Adeline Brown in the future.

Thankyou Adeline Brown for giving me the opportunity to read On The Sidelines earlier !!!!

This sports romance was everything... Both of our main characters were relatable and realistic. I LOVED the plus size representation and the fact that Oliver didn’t see her for anything other than who she is and loved her in a way that she should’ve been.

In addition to our spicy romance, we have bante in excess I was laughing so hard at times, everyone needs a friend like Rosie! She had Fallons back unconditionally and was the truest friend anyone could have.

There were moments in this book that had my heart breaking and moments that had me screaming for joy. I related to Fallon as a character and loved her relationship with Oliver fucking Blake….

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of this book and all thoughts and feelings are my own.

***Re read June 25 - still absolutely love this book.. definitely an all time fave !

OK... I just found my new comfort read. This book has a place in my heart now.

Our FMC, Fallon, all quirks and chaos, humour and insecurity, is so relatable. I think she will resonate with so many readers. I love her friendship with Rosie, the true partner in crime for life every girl needs.

Our broody MMC, Oliver, is top book boyfriend material. Even when he is struggling he encourages Fallon to stay confident in herself and supports her dreams too.

The banter in this book is top notch, so funny , had me chuckling . The spice is hot, but beautifully done too. The storyline is great, keeps you hooked, it flows well and is easy to read.

I truly didn’t want the book to end !

On The Sidelines was a very easy read, i finished it in two days! Fallon was a very relatable character as i think every girl can relate to the insecurities we all have, and not feeling good enough. & then comes Oliver Blake….. a professional footballer that literally worships the ground Fallon walks on. He is very sweet, caring and that scene when her electricity blows 🥺🤌🏻💖 There are some trigger warnings for this book, so make sure you check those out. My heart broke for Fallon learning about her family. The plot twist at the end made for a 3rd act break up BUT i didn’t dislike this one! X

plus size fmc friends to lovers romance

Oliver & Fallon get this unexpected meeting and that’s how their story begins by Fallon wanting to write a memoir about him and Oliver finally helped her find herself and he found himself . Despite all the lies and stories said about him and how no one believed him and his ex cheated on his with his best friend this store does have found family which I appreciate and I love how Oliver helped Fallon feel better about herself. I will say I didn’t like Cole being forgiven so easily after taking his friend’s girl and believing the lies

If you love sports romances I highly recommend this one!

The banter between the MC’s is amazing my poor ribs ended up hurting so much from their banter! The FMC best friend is hilarious I loved her so much she was my favourite character out of the whole book!

I hated FMC family so much the rage I felt towards them was wild. The MMC family was better than the FMC family.

There are some TWs that you should definitely read before diving in.

Ok so this book was really sweet and fun but.... As an American I was a little thrown about the fact that it was not about American Football. I guess I should've tried to figure that out before I started the book. It didn't have too many references that for someone who knows almost nothing about soccer (sorry Brits gotta do it) and really doesn't like the parts I do know to be turned off of the book. It was just jarring to realize it would not be the sport I thought it would be.

Finally a book thats not about a petit girl! Love that its about a curvy woman who has issues with her body but the plot isnt about loving her body and the MMC makes her love it.
He doesnt fix it, he just makes her more comfortble with him.
Its a slow burn but not slow that you get bored.
I need a book about Olivers brother George!
