Faith and falsehood both entwined,
Truth will triumph, hope will bind.

Once, Evelyn Carson was one half of a prophesied union, destined to defeat the vampyrs. Now, haunted by failure and deserted by her fire magic, she has vowed never to trust her powers again. Hidden in a tiny coastal town, Evelyn is desperate to conceal her weakness from those who would start war if they knew. Until a young woman is murdered, and the whisperings of duty demand to be heard...

For Kade Drengr there is no higher calling than duty. But ever since Evelyn deserted hers two years ago, Kade has searched for her relentlessly, determined to fulfill the prophecy. Cloaked in anonymity as the huntsman Cyrus, he offers to help Evelyn solve the murder in hopes of securing their union.

Even if it’s founded on a lie.

When more victims show up — each missing a different body part — Evelyn recognizes a darker magic than the killings of her homeland. As Kade wrestles with his allegiances and deepening feelings for Evelyn, the lines of truth and betrayal begin to blur.

But even with hearts aflame, can two souls fulfill a destiny that may destroy them both?

This was SUCH a good book! The story has magic, a runaway bride, murder mysteries, witches, werewolves, vampires, AND faeries! ✨

The world building was beautiful and the side characters were so lovable. I loved that it focused on the Evelyn’s journey with self-doubt and learning to believe in herself. Her character growth was so relatable and inspiring to watch. 🔥

And Kade?! He was extremely patient, encouraging, and devoted. SO swoon worthy 😍

THE ENDING! It was a complete shock! 👀 Overall, I loved this story and I am eagerly awaiting the next installment of this series!

Thank you so much to C.C. Tyler and Victory Editing for providing this ARC book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own. 💖

Obsessed with this book & cannot wait for the second one. It ends on a cliffhanger that is killing me to have to wait till book 2. Loved the sexual tension and slow burn of the book. Extremely well written and the plot wasn’t like most fantasy books I’ve read; which I loved!

4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this and would have read it all in one sitting had I not had to work the next day. The pacing was good and I enjoyed all the characters and their relationships. The romance was a slow burn but I enjoyed that as well.

I absolutely loved this book and would give 4.5 stars if Goodreads ever allowed half a star.

I would say it’s Throne of Glass meets The Honey Witch.

Such an easy read yet not boring. The plot twists were predictable but in a good way. I felt emotionally invested in the book but it didn’t absolutely destroy my soul - which sometimes is good!

Of Faith & Flame by C.C. Tyler

Faith. Falsehoods, lies. Prophecies. Vampyrs. Truth will triumph. Hope will bind.

Evelyn Carson was destined to defeat the vampyrs as spoken by prophecy. She is now haunted by her failure to exact that prophecy, and she is left without the magic of fire that burned in her very being. Powers cannot be relied upon. All she can do is lie low in the hopes that those with the wrong intentions that would covet her power never find her. Except, now women are being murdered all around her, and a fierce warrior begs to be released to rise to her duty.

A runaway bride refusing to marry in order to keep the vampyrs from killing in her homeland. Attempting to save her family. Running. Running. Not fast enough.

A power to weild flame is powerful until it leaves the hero in her quest alone, powerless.

Kade Grengr, werewolf shifter, understands that call to duty. When Evelyn abandoned her duty, he has been faithfully searching for her since. The prophecy demands to be fullfilled, and the other half of that union was left without her power in the greatest time of need. He now goes undercover as huntsman Cyrus, vowing to help Evelyn solve the mystery of the murders while truly aiming to secure their union in order to complete the prophecy.

The fact that he is truly lying to her about who he is does not bother him. At all.

The pair discover a darker magic, a darker power when investigating the trail of dead bodies in Evelyn's homeland. Kade begins to feel torn between his loyalty to fate and his loyalty to his heart. Truth and loyalty are not so easy.

This novel was delicious. It was action-packed, intense, and magical. The murder mystery created a nice spin on the romantasy genre. It was a lovely bundle of witches and werewolves and fated mates. A runaway bride. Faeries. A werewolf and a witch. Great chemistry. Hidden identities, slow burn romance. This novel gave me all the enchanting feels 🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 Stars!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars
🌶️.5 spice

Evelyn conjured something wild and ravenous inside him, something he feared and craved all at once.

Ooft…ok, I didn’t see that ending coming. Still reeling slightly and all in my feels for Kade.

I was lured into a false sense of security there, thinking it was going to be a bit of a wind down segue into the next book, but burning Solas was I wrong! A surprise twist at the end is my kryptonite, and you’d best believe I’ll be continuing this series to soothe my cliffhanger blues.

This debut allies to lovers Romantasy was a just a lovely read. We got mountains of sexual tension, unexpected twists and turns, secret identities, witches, werewolves, vampires, demons, faeries (not of the sexy variety), a sprinkle of cottage core, and a damn murder mystery too! What more could you possibly ask for?

The world building was really unique, although I would have loved more detail about Sorin - I’m sure we’ll be scratching that itch in book 2. Loved all the characters, especially my girl Aster, and the deliciously loveable MMC.

The MCs relationship was definitely a slow burn. There were hints of spice with a promise of more steamy moments to come, and the pairing between a witch and werewolf in this style of fantasy felt really unique to me. I’m fully invested in their relationship.

The only thing that distracted me during this read was the repetitive internal monologue moments, particularly from the FMC asking herself questions that were already inferred from the plot points or dialogue happening at the time, or emotional turmoil over things that were mentioned several times already. There were so many references along the lines of “how can I abandon my duty?” that the word “duty” lost all meaning after a while.

That aside, I would definitely recommend this series - it would make a great introduction into the world of Romantasy if you’re not ready for full on spice, but want a little taster before dabbling in something hotter.

Tropes (of which there are many…yum):

🍃Secret Identities
🍃Arranged Marriage
🍃Fated Mates

With thanks to the author and NetGalley for an eARC copy of the book to read and offer my honest opinions.

I loved this book, I shirked my responsibilities and read this across a weekend. As only a good book full of characters to love will encourage you to do.

This is a delightful debut novel full of allies to lovers, fated mates, werewolf-witchy ancient magic and intrigue. Set against a Celtic backdrop this was a warm, spirited tale with mystery and emotion. I loved Evelyn and Kade, the allies to lovers was done with aplomb. The companions were lovely and the pathos around Aster. .. I am not ready to forgive the author for that plot twist.

I enjoyed reading a werewolf who was not a baddie. This werewolf was presented as a shifter with his own special skills and abilities.. The plot was able to take off after the characters had all been introduced and the world built, the cottage core -Celtic feel was lovely. A big nod to “Pages and Leaves” a bookstore cross nursery I want to visit.
The second half of the book really picked up and worked up to a cliffhanger that was unexpected and not just a little bit heartbreaking.

I highly recommend Of Faith and Flames.

Thank you to the author for an eARC!

I quite enjoyed this and look forward to more. A fantasy mystery, we follow Evelyn and Kade, known to each other as Saige and Cyrus, attempt to solve the mystery of murders happening in the town of Callum.

I felt both Kade and Evelyn had good growth as characters, especially Evelyn. I hope to learn more of the background on the vampyr and more about Sorin in the next book!

Honor, duty, betrayal. Three elements that presented themselves throughout this book. Couple that with: Witches, werewolves, fated mates, prophecies and friendship and you’ve got one heck of a story. I loved every second of this book, and when I tell you I yelled at the end of the last chapter…major cliff hanger! Thank you to #netgalley for giving me the privilege of reading this book. This was an awesome story. The world building is not slow and grabs you from the start. I found the character growth of both main characters to be relatable and their responses to everything made sense. The murder mystery intertwined seamlessly with the fantasy. The end caught me by surprise and dying to find out what happens next. I can't wait to read more!

I would like to thank Book Of Matches Media and C.C. Tyler for providing this ARC to prepare me to review its’ sequel in exchange for my honest review. I am reviewing this book voluntarily and all opinions expressed are my own.

4.5⭐️ rounded to 5⭐️ on Goodreads and retail sites. Of Faith & Flame is the first book in the Prophecy of Sorin Trilogy by C.C. Tyler. Evelyn Carson was a powerful witch and half of a prophesied union which was destined to defeat the Vampyrs. She lost her flame and fled, ashamed and terrified. Kade Drengr was consumed by duty. Determined to fulfill the prophesy, he had been searching for Evelyn for two years. Read above for the book blurb. This book is a strangers to lovers, slow burn, Romantasy novel dealing with a fantasy mystery, secrets, a prophesy, magic, werewolves, witches, vampyrs, and found family. I completely enjoyed the book, which was easy to read and quick to grab the reader. The plot moved at a pace which kept the reader engaged and there were unexpected twists that kept it from being too predictable. The tension between Kade and Evelyn was palpable and the steam level was low to moderate, occurring in the last third of the book. It ends in a cliffhanger, so I was relieved to be able to start right in to book 2, In Darkness and Duty. I recommend this book for fans of romantasy novels. The series has been compared to A Warrior's Fate by Melissa Kieran (werewolves, magic, adult fantasy romance), A River Enchanted by Rebecca Ross (Irish Folklore and atmospheric writing), and the Witch Collector series (witchy, deep world building, Gods, folklore, and found family/team tropes). The books are available in Kindle Unlimited.

Thank you to C. C. Tyler and NetGalley for the ARC for "Of Faith & Flame!"

I feel like this was a solid series start. Evelyn has run from her coven in an attempt to protect them from impending war with the vampyrs. Kade has been sent to find his runaway bride and comes across her right as a series of murders start. Rather than risk scaring her off by admitting he is her betrothed, he decides to help solve the murder while trying to deduce her reasons for leaving in the first place.

This book was a combo of murder mystery, fantasy, and romance. There's false leads, betrayal, and an adorable feline familiar who I wish we saw more of.

I do feel like Evelyn and Kade made some dumb choices, especially knowing that Kade is a general in Sorin. Like, why did we not leave some Far Darrig for questioning? They knew at that point that the little beasties were in an alliance with someone more powerful, why didn't they snag one of them to figure out who the puppet-master was?

There was very little spice, so this is a good low-heat book for those that prefer less spice, but I can see the spice increasing as the series continues. Kade and Evelyn wanted to take their time <3

All-in-all, I look forward to seeing where the story goes and I hope Kade and Evelyn get their HEA.

If you want a great fantasy murder mystery read with monsters, magic, and romance, then this is the book you’re looking for.

Some parts near the latter half of the book felt a bit rushed (some action scenes) but other than that it was a solid, well thought out story. This book is action packed and emotional. It’s dark and fun. I was pleasantly surprised with it, taking twists and turns I did not anticipate or they went against what I thought entirely.

The back and forth between Evelyn and Kade was so good. I ate that tension right up and left no crumbs. There’s something about the FMC absolutely despising the thought of the MMC that I just LOVE. And when she finally caves? Lord have mercy.

The end had me swearing aloud and I was so desperately happy that I got the ARC for the second instalment because I don’t think I could’ve waited to read what happened next.

Thank you to C.C. Tyler for the book in exchange for my honest review.

Unfortunately at about 70% in I started to just skim through until the end.

Initially I was intrigued. First impressions were good. I enjoyed the dual POV of Evelyn and Kade, and I liked that it wasn’t written in first person. The world is tangible, and easy to grasp. I did enjoy the world Tyler created. Witches, werewolves, vampires and a murder mystery? This sounded right up my alley.

There is an allies to lovers romance, which I didn’t care for. (I am not the biggest romance fan unless it’s dark, twisty & toxic) well aware of my personal preference, I tried not to let that cloud my thoughts.

But I did find some details to be a bit repetitive. Information that we fully know, I didn’t think needed to be stated as often as it was. I enjoyed Kades character, but found Evelyn to be a bit annoying and bratty at times. So their interactions together at times just wasn’t it for me.

I also felt that as they are facing their challenge of trying to solve this murder mystery, it seemed too easy for them to come out on top.

While overall this wasn’t the one for me, it might still be the one for you! So definitely check it out & decide for yourself.

Thank you to NetGalley and author C.C. Tyler for this ARC!

C.C Tyler has pulled me into a fantastical world filled with werewolves, witches, prophecies, demons, fairies, and murder mysteries. Add in a slow-burn love story with an allied to lovers trope and a little bit of spice, and you got yourselves a great read!

This book has a good plot and an easy to read story, with good characters and an adorable feline familiar. I love how the book was written with dual POVs, and allowed us to read about the inner turmoil of both main characters.

There are some bits where I found their decisions, lack of honesty, and self-doubt to be frustrating but I do not want to get into details for fear of spoilers! The ending was an unexpected cliffhanger, one that made me want to read the next book in this series!

I definitely recommend this book for fantasy lovers!

Reading this book was a full experience. The worldbuilding is fantastic, the characters are developed beautifully, the tension is exquisite, just a great book. It's medium to fast-ish paced with very atmospheric writing. I felt fully immersed in the world the author created. The characters are complex and nuanced, very likeable and sooo easy to cheer for them to get together.
What I loved most, besides the tension between the characters and their whole journey, was the writing. It's almost poetic and flows so well, I found myself rereading certain parts and slowing down to enjoy it.
I'll definitely be picking up a physical copy of this book as soon as I can.
Thank you to the author and her team for the opportunity to read and review the book.

Of Faith and Flame was a nice and fast-paced introduction into The Prophecy of Sorin Trilogy. The story was interesting, and it had a moment not so often seen in romantasy books - a murder investigation. I liked Kade, the MMC, he was my favorite part of the book. Evelyn, the FMC, I found a bit hard to connect to, and I hope that will change as the series progresses. Ultimately, if you enjoy an intriguing story, packed with witches, werewolves, fated mates, prophecies, you will enjoy Of Faith and Flame.

I spotted these at Imaginarium and clearly CC Tyler knew her target audience (me, it’s me). This book hits the trifecta for me: fantasy, romance, and murder mystery all rolled into one story. Plus witches, werewolves, and vampires? I was hooked.

CC Tyler does a wonder job of layer the character development along side the advancing plot. The mystery keeps moving as the murders begin to pile up. The reader is soon aware that bigger plots are at play. Tyler keeps the reader on their toes as more and more devious behavior unravels and you will be flipping the last pages so fast as she adds in that final turn.

This story starts off following Saige/Evelyn, who is trying to outrun her family, friends, and the loss of her powers. But when the town she is staying in falls prey to vampires, she knows she cannot just leave. From the beginning it is clear, Evelyn is struggling with a loss of faith in herself and her abilities -- largely a result from her upbringing and people pigeon holing her into being nothing more than her powers and a part of prophecies. She doesn't know how is without her powers or how to be a part of a prophecy without them. Yet, it is clear she cares very deeply for the people around her and wants to help.

On the flip side we have, Kade/Cyrus -- her betrothed -- who believe Evelyn to be nothing more than spoiled brat, who abandoned their fate. But when he finally manages to catch up to her -- posing as the huntsman, Cyrus -- he discovers a very different person lies behind his first impressions.

I loved watching these two find each other and be forced to work together to ferret out the person behind the vampire-esque murders. It is fun to watch each of them soften towards the other, but of course, things to a head when their hidden identities begin to slowly unravel.

This is a series you definitely do not want to miss!

Of Faith & Flame caught my attention right from the start. The book was well delivered and continued to keep me engaged until the end.

Evelyn is a witch who lost her power. Kade is a werewolf. They were mated to be married. Evelyn fled to save her family when she lost her powers. Kade leaves to go find her and bring her back, even though he is supposed to leave. When he finds her, he acts like he doesn't know who she is because he doesn't want her to run again. He was able to gain her trust and be who he was without his title. Evelyn and Kade start to work together to track down a vampyr who is killing people in town. Evelyn was determined to save the town she lived in. She felt like she had a duty to save them.

Throughout the book, I was engaged the whole time. We learn more about their background as the story unfolds. I enjoyed how they gave both points of view throughout the book. For me, it helped me stay engaged and then also understand both points of view. Books like this are my favorite because I always want to know what the other person is thinking!

Thank you, NetGalley, for allowing me to read this advanced copy! Thank you, C.C Tyler, for writing a book that was engaging, in great detail, and crafting two points of view together. This is the first book I have read from you, and now I will be looking for more books you have created. I recommend anyone to read this book who enjoys reading about werewolves, witches, different points of view, and vampires! Even if you don't like reading those areas, I think people would enjoy this book just because of the format, detail, and how it keeps your attention throughout

“The problem is that you think you’re nothing without your magic, but in fact your magic would be nothing without you.”

Far from home, Evelyn is constantly on the move to keep from being found while she’s in search of something she lost- a divine gift unique to her. With the pressures of a prophecy and an arranged marriage, there’s no way she’s going back home to her coven until she gets her flame back. Before she could quietly runaway again, she finds herself stuck in Callum partnering with a HOT, "beastly" huntsman to solve the brutal murders of young women in the small coastal town she’s grown quite fond of. As they piece together the mystery of the deaths and of each other, Kade and Evelyn start to realize this is far bigger than the both of them.

Spice Rating 🌶🌶

Based around a fantasy murder mystery and main characters with hidden identities. This story was beautifully crafted, mostly taking place in a small port town, the plot takes us on a wild ride full of twists and turns.

The world building was thoroughly enthralling and immersive. The characters were relatable and charismatic. As always with a first book in a series, I understand that most of the plot is going to be introducing characters and setting the scenes for the next few books. The author coherently blended the storylines whilst weaving intricate threads of honour, duty, love, magic and betrayal. Leaving me invested and desperate for more.

I was thoroughly engrossed in the story between Evelyn and Kade and really didn't want it to end. I was emotionally invested all the way through. I also had a gut instinct about a certain duo that we learn more about at the end of the book, I knew something didn't sit right with me.

I'll be eagerly awaiting book 2, but for now thank you @authorcctyler for the opportunity to read your book!

Genre: Fantasy, Mystery, Romance
I so very much enjoyed Of Faith and Flame. There is a little of everything in this book. Magic, mystery, witches, wolves, vampires, faeries, and demons galore.

Our MFC, Evelyn (a witch), and our MMC, Kade (a wolf shifter), are arranged to be married to fulfill a prophesy, but Evelyn feels like she will let everyone down because she is struggling with her magic. Evelyn goes on the run and Kade pursues her for two years until he finally catches up to her and they pair up to help the town of Callum solve the mysterious murders. Oh and they have never met before.

I loved Evelyn’s development of the course of this book. She began to take back her magic and become more in tune with herself. I was intrigued by how the more comfortable she got and was encouraged by her friends that she really became a much stronger character.

Kade frustrated me at times and I was kept thinking it wasn’t going to end well for him keeping so many secrets. I adored how he developed as he learned more and more about why Evelyn had fled. He got to see the real her and it changed all of his initial thoughts about her. The slow burn to this just about did me in and I was ready for them to just kiss so many times.

Overall this was a wonderful story, and it does end on a cliffhanger and now I can’t wait for book 2 to come out!

I was provided an ARC for my honest review.

Of Faith and Flame by C.C Tyler is a belting debut novel, swirling slow burn, archaic rites, and all of our favourite paranormal tropes.

The beauty of this novel, is that C.C Tyler does not shy away from experimenting with the usual tropes, building on them, seeing how far they can be taken, twisting the storylne so that the reader does not know what to expect from one minute to the next, all the while, having the stabilising storyliine of the slow burn between Evelyn and Kade, which was elegantly done

I am not usually into the werewolf/ shifter trope but Tyler strips away the usual angsty behaviours and personalities and creates a character that is actualy likable. It was just so utetrly refreshing to read a Werewolf who was comfortable in his own skin (please excuse my terminology)

Of Faith and Flame is the start of what has the potential to be a very successful series and I will be keeping my eye out for the next book as that flipping cliffhanger, that absomotherflipping clifhanger. I cannot even! Well played!

Thank you to Netgalley, and the fantastic author C.C Tyler for this outstanding debut ARC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own

This book is easily one of the best romantasy novels I’ve ever read, and I absolutely loved every aspect of it. Whether it's the murder mystery, the runaway bride, witches, werewolves, or vampyres with their unique powers, the slow-burn romance, fated mates, suspense, or secret identities—this book has everything I look for in a great read.

The writing was so vivid that I could picture every scene unfolding right before my eyes. I especially adored Evelyn and Kade—their initial attraction, their growing friendship, and the way their characters evolved throughout the story. It was captivating in every way. And then there's Aster, the curly red-haired, petite witch—she was just so adorable, and I felt so bad for her.

It’s been a long time since I’ve come across a romantasy with so many intriguing elements packed into one story, and picking up this book was definitely the best decision. It gave me major Vampire Diaries vibes, and I completely loved it. I highly recommend it, but make sure to have the next book ready!

Where to begin? C.C. is a master craftsman at blending storylines and weaving an intricate web of lore and magic, leaving me fully invested and desperate for more.
C.C. crafts an incredible story that is full of details sure to bring you straight to Callum. I could smell the bread, taste the wine, feel the brisk chill in the air. I was immediately drawn into both Kade and Evelyn’s development- I loved knowing their secrets and watching them slowly open up to each other. I was anxiously awaiting the big reveal and it did not disappoint!
Each character in this book felt like someone I truly knew because of how well fleshed-out they were. The town of Callum and the trials it faces felt personal because of this connection. Oh, and the twists and turns of this book had me second guessing everything I had originally thought. And the BIG reveal at the end?! It was nothing short of edge-of-your-seat good! I can’t recommend this book enough.

Can we get book #2 already?!??

Evelyn and Kade’s story is one that tugged on my heartstrings. Evelyn’s struggles with mental health, overcoming the voices that were constantly putting her down, were so relatable and well written. Showing that someone who is considered strong and powerful can struggle with self doubt, that it does not make them weak. Her character arc, finally believing in her worth outside of her magic, was beautiful.

I loved the slow burn, organic development of Kade and Evelyn’s relationship. Though he knew who she was, Kade took the time to understand her motives instead of barreling in and making hasty decisions. He’s dealing with his own insecurities but he never fails to build Evelyn up.

Aster and Miss Patricia were such wholesome characters and each played a vital role in nudging Kade and Evelyn together. And our wise cat/familiar Maxie!! Every interaction between Kade and her had my heart melting!

The murder mystery also kept me guessing and some of those plot twists I did not see coming 🤯. And just the lush, nature filled world building itself was a delight. That ending has left me feeling all kinds of way 👀. I cannot wait for book 2 and this next step in Evelyn’s journey!

Of Faith and Flame follows a witch on the run, a werewolf determined to find her, and a threat that intertwines their present and their futures in ways they couldn't anticipate. The world is rich. The magic is enticing. The characters are enigmatic. The story is poetically written. Honestly, it's a great read if you want to escape the real world for a little while. Evelyn and Kade are a fun couple to follow as they venture through the Irish hills and an even funner couple to solve crimes with. There's magic. There's tension. There's betrayals. There's unexpected truths found out at terrible times. There's humor, a smidge of romance, and there's pain. If you're looking for a fun and fast read, get this. Of Faith and Flame is the perfect book to cuddle up with on a rainy day. Make sure you bring some tea (or some honeysuckle wine) and enjoy!
