A wronged man. A race against time. Can she change history and save the man she loves?Ellie's life is on the brink of ruin - her business is failing and her dreams of expansion are fading away. When she inherits a house, it seems like all her dreams could come true.
But the house has a dark history. According to local legend, the blacksmith who lived there in the 1760s brutally murdered a local girl. And the past is bleeding into the present. The house shifts; rooms disappear; Ellie keeps seeing the ghost of a young man.
When Ellie is catapulted through time to 1762, she comes face to face with the blacksmith, Kit. Far from the violent thug the stories would have him be, he seems kind and honourable.
As Ellie and Kit get closer, they know that history is against them. If they don’t discover what really happened to the murdered girl, time will run out for Kit.
Has history wronged an innocent man? If so, can Ellie save him before he’s killed for a crime he didn’t commit?

I enjoyed it, but it had some gaping flaws which I couldn't ignore and then just started to irritate me.
First- there was little attempt to show the difference in speech between Ellie (21st C) and Kit (18th C). Oh, there was the odd "hence" and the like thrown in there, but that was about it. I get that perhaps modern readers might be a bit too lazy to read a more formal and older language type, but the problem was that Kit did not stand out in contrast to Ellie at all. He was basically a modern man in the 18th C.
Second- The historical research was lacking. Now, yes, this is historical fantasy- it's time slip after all, however the author made mention several times of Ellie potentially being labelled a witch with the inferred dire consequences. The problem with this is the year which Ellie goes back to 1762. If the author had done 10 minutes worth of research, she would have found that in 1735 The Witchcraft Act made it illegal for anyone to claim that they were a witch and had magical powers, on the scientific assumption that magic was not real and therefore anyone who practised witchcraft was a fraud, and the defrauding people from their money was the illegal bit. The last woman in the UK who was tried and executed as a witch was in 1727. Of course, there would have been some superstitious folk still around, but the threat of being tried under the newer law was a year in prison, not a capital offense.
Three- The love connection between Ellie and Kit just seemed a bit too quick.
Four- Perhaps the biggest problem I had was that the novel was too similar to my all-time fav book which happens to be a time slip, and unfortunately, Out of Time just doesn't compare.
I loved this! Halfway through I'd convinced myself that I knew just how the story would end. But then there were so many twists and turns I wondered if there would be a happy ever after. Don't worry, there was! I loved the characters and their perfect but unusual love story. Highly recommended
What a beautiful and imaginative story! As with any well-written and captivating tale, I had a hard time putting it down. Creating a conceivable mode of traveling through time is not an easy task and Amanda Fleet transported her herione flawlessly between the past and the present. I loved this story. I will be looking for more from her!
Meh it didn’t really go anywhere and I got annoyed that Ellie just kept going back and forth between times and didn’t stay there. I also felt like everything lead up to nothing near the end of the book.
I loved this book! Great story, nicely written and fabulous characters. These was absolutely nothing to dislike about this book which is why I've given it 5 stars.
Good time travel story about a young woman who returns to her grandmother’s house when she dies. She has had an imaginary friend from when she was a child. Her grandmother is certain that she will marry him. As she stays in the house it morphs into a small home of a blacksmith, her imaginary friend. There is a love story with some edge of your seat action before the story ends. Very good story with realistic characters.
