Dylan St. James Omegaverse #1

Dylan St. James: Omega Concealed

Rate this book
Packs are pain and bonds are fucking shackles.

With the government issuing omega females to Alpha packs like we’re social security checks, I cling to my freedom thanks to a black-market suppressant hookup and a lethal family that’s ready to execute any Alpha who tries to force a bond.

By day, I work in the family hardware store. By night, I rescue omegas who weren’t born with the tools to fight the system like I was.

My life is risk, but I’d never trade it for anything.

Not even for the three dangerously gorgeous men who come sniffing around the store in search of the omega I just snatched from her abusive prison.

Not even when those men smell like they’re mine.

But my suppressant hookup just fell through, and I’m on the fast track to a pheromone explosion that will land me in jail, followed by forced bonding.

Or I could just give my body what it so desperately wants and fall into the convenient arms of Austin, Seth, and Cameron.

But outside of the fairytales? There’s no such thing as a happily bonded omega.

I’m Dylan St. James, and I’m no princess.

This is a New Adult, M/M/F/M Omegaverse romance. It is Book 1 in a duet and will end on a cliffhanger. As always with my books, this is for readers age 18+ and contains a ton of foul language, steamy scenes, and violent themes. A full list of content warnings can be found in the Author’s Note at the front of the book. Happy reading!

Definite potential, let down by some surprising irritants.

I know Dear has written another RH series which is quite well-regarded (though I remember DNFing the first book of that) and was intrigued to see how her omegaverse would turn out.

21-year-old Dylan St James works at her family's hardware store alongside her twin brother Derrick and younger sister Daisy. In her spare time, she moonlights as a saviour of abused omegas. You see, while Dylan's also an omega, she's not like the others - she can fight, she's taken hormone suppressants her whole life so she presents as a beta, and doesn't physically resemble an omega either. (This has got to be the most common omegaverse trope ever, but whatever). Only now, her suppressants have run out, and her three scent-matched mates - alpha brothers Austin and Seth Bryce, and Seth's bonded beta mate Cameron - have walked into her store, hired to find the omega Dylan's just rescued. She never wants to be wanted just for her designation, but she knows she'll have a hard time staying away from them, especially since they seem to feel a connection too.

To start with the good: a well-written, easy-to-read book that flows smoothly. Even the male first-person POV, which I can be a real stickler about, was passable. I liked Daisy in particular - she and Dylan are by far the most fleshed-out characters, with the heroes coming off as a bit bland in comparison.

There is, also, absolutely no nuance to the story. The good guys are exaggeratedly good; Seth and Austin are rich and handsome, plus wonderful, progressive, forward-thinking alphas in basically all respects. The bad guys are exaggeratedly bad, hicks and rednecks presented as having simplistic 'feminism bad' viewpoints. I'm not saying this viewpoint isn't simplistic, I'm saying that in order to have a compelling villain, you should be able to understand his motivations and present his nuances, even if you don't agree with him. Dylan is so rah-rah full-on that any hope of an interesting good/bad dynamic was lost.

With that said, there are weird moments of internalised misogyny to the book. First off, Dylan is a MASSIVE slut-shamer, literally mid-2010s YA level bad. Every single woman her brother sleeps with is presented as a beta slut, whore, etc who just wants to ride alpha dick. Naturally, Dylan herself is above such things. (And of course, her brother never receives any real disapproval for sleeping with these women in the first place; Dylan reserves all her scathing comments for the 'alpha chasers' he sleeps with). In fact, there are only three categories of female character in this book: the ones related to Dylan or the heroes, which are fine because they're relatives; a bunch of victimised omegas who need Dylan to kick down the door and save them with brute strength; and every other woman, who has no role but to lust mindlessly over Derrick/the heroes and be bitchy to Dylan for no reason. I really expected better.

At another moment, my jaw DROPPED when Dylan tells herself off for crying and says she's 'sniffling like a fucking girl.' Umm, what?!?!? It was like reading a book written 10 years ago - I'm expected to believe that Dylan, whose feminism we're beaten over the head with, subscribes to stupid stereotypes about how 'crying is bad, and it's a girly thing to do'? It's painfully clear that Dylan idolises her ultra-masculine Alpha brother and father, and her image of being a 'strong woman' is entirely dependent on masculine conceptions of strength - i.e. kicking doors down, beating Alphas constantly in hand-to-hand combat, and the like. Even her mother only really makes an appearance to shoot people, reinforcing the idea that strength = fighting ability. Dylan is the epitome of 'not like other girls' - she's not like other beta women because she doesn't chase alphas; she's not like other beta women because unlike them, she can physically satisfy an alpha; she's not like other omega women because she's tall and muscular instead of being short and delicate; she's not like other omega women because she can physically match any man, while they require rescue. As a heroine, it made her grating quite quickly. I would have loved to read a book set in this world with a real beta woman, or alpha heroine, because then at least there'd be more basis to the 'not like other omegaverse heroines' claim.

Things improved towards the very end, however, and I'm keen to see if Dylan makes the heroes pay sufficiently for their stupidity. Frankly, the fact that they abandoned her thinking she was a beta and have only returned now they know she's an omega will be difficult to get around; I hope Dylan puts them through the wringer.

The start of this book was amazing. It had great potential. The concept was intriguing.

Dylan was an omega in hiding, and she & her family had been secretly rescuing abused omegas. They were all like secret agents. Cool, right?

Until the romance kicked in and it all fell apart 😔 it was instantaneous, cringe, and made them all sound whiny. And the smut was too porny and they talked too much during it.

Dylan was supposed to be a badass, and she was supposed to stay being a badass even after discovering that these three extremely hot alpha dudes were her fated mates. But nooooo because who could resist them, right?

The only positive from that is at least she didn't sleep with them just because. She had restraints on that front at the very least. Good for her. But she was down bad, and they were also down bad. It was boring as hell.

And the secret agent rescuing business lost its appeal eventually.

I feel like I've been here before. A good series with a good plot, but got ruined by the romance and the smut. Oh wait, I have. It was with the A Knight's Revenge series by the same author 🫠 how could you let this happen TWICE

Ya know what? I really actually liked this book. There's no pivotal climax really imo, but it was still good. I really liked the FMC. She was actually badass, which was apparent through her actions (not just an inner monologue that repeated how badass she is 100x). I can be a harsh critic with omegaverse why choose books because they can be quite similar, but this one was actually very good.

I love Dylan's family including her parents and siblings. They're so cute and better all survive or else I will have some words. Austin and Seth's mom is annoying as fuck.

3.7 stars. Review for the entire duet.

This is an Omegaverse RH duet with 3 heroes and 1 heroine. And 2 of the heroes are also in an MM relationship with each other. They’re all around 21 - 23.

I gave 4 stars to this author's other series, Storm the Gates, which I liked a little more than this. That's why this is 3.7 stars, to make it distinct from that. But, I still did enjoy this, and I really like this author - she hasn't missed yet. Her stuff isn't especially deep or unique, but it's fun and breezy, filled with likable characters, and I like her snarky writing voice. All of her heroes and heroines kind of have the same personalities. But, similar to author Suzanne Wright (who also does that), I don't care. Her Usual Thing really works for me. Plus, Elizabeth Dear keeps jumping genres – Mave Fortune was werewolf MF and MM, Storm the Gates was academy RH, and now this is Omegaverse RH. So, that keeps her books from feeling too same-y.

Like her other heroines, Dylan is confident and kickass. Sometimes heroines like this are irritating – they’re arrogant or shouty just to prove how “tough” they are. But, this author has a way with writing strong heroines. They don't annoy me, and they’re always likable and cool.

The plot: Dylan is an Omega who takes suppressants and pretends to be a Beta. She never plans to live as an Omega, because she’s seen too many horror stories. Her family helps rescue abused Omegas from terrible Alphas. (That takes up a lot of the plot action). She meets her pack of scent-matched Alphas, which complicates her plan to never live as an Omega. There’s a bit of conflict between them, but otherwise, this author doesn’t really write “enemies to lovers," most of the plot action and conflict comes from outside threats.

Even for Omegas who have good lives where their Alphas treat them like pampered princesses, that’s just not who Dylan is. She regularly jumps off balconies and brawls with men twice her size, and she likes her life. She never wants to have Alphas who restrict it (even if they do it out of a desire to protect her). I’ve read other Omegaverse stories where the heroine doesn’t want a pack, because life sucks for Omegas. But in other books, after a heroine meets a good pack, she comes around fast. In this story, it felt more unique that it acknowledged that even Omegas with great situations weren’t living a lifestyle that would suit this heroine. (It flirts with the "Not Like Other Girls" trope, but it narrowly avoids it, since this story doesn't portray all "girly girls" or more typical Omegas as being bad. Plus, I think it interrogates that trope in an interesting way. Dylan is Not Like Other Omegas, but what does that mean for her to embrace life as one?)

This author's books are my version of cozy comfort reads, because the heroines have supportive families, the heroes are loving, the banter and side characters are fun. Everyone is basically nice to each other (except for the villains). But, there’s still a lot of plot action and conflict from outside stuff, and narrative momentum. So it’s not like many other “sweet” books where "sweet" means there's no conflict, no tension, and nothing much happening. “Everyone is nice to each other” is cool in real life, but boring in fiction. But, this author writes it in a way that works for me. Her sarcastic humor also gives it a bit more bite, so that her stuff never feels too sugary sweet.

I didn’t like this duet as much as her werewolf books, or her academy RH trilogy Storm the Gates. That’s not to say I didn’t still enjoy it. I did! But the heroine and heroes were exchanging “I love yous” crazy fast. The character development wasn’t bad, but it was better in her other books. Like for example, I like Austin, but he's similar to Bennett (a hero from Storm the Gates). That isn't bad - if I like a hero, I'm fine with an author repeating his personality! But, it did make it apparent that Bennett felt more fleshed out as a character: I knew more about his life, and there was more angst, tension, and push/pull between him and his heroine that made him more engaging and interesting, and feel like he had a bit more depth. Austin was still a good hero. But that's why this duet ranks a little lower for me than her other books. Same with the other heroes. Seth is likable, he's very similar to Zach (from Storm the Gates), which isn't a bad thing - I like Zach, so bring on the Omegaverse version of him! - but Zach just felt like he had a bit more substance as a character than Seth.

But, if you like Omegaverse and especially if you like kickass heroines, you’d probably like this. And, it set up future books for Daisy and Seraphina, and I’ll definitely read those. I hope Jericho gets more page time in the future books, he was a very fun side character I'd like to see more of.

This was a nice, easy read. I’m always a sucker for a badass FMC that walks the walk and doesn’t just talk to talk. She never needed rescuing and was a badass on her own. There were two main reasons why I didn’t rate it higher though. Some parts were too silly for me. I like more serious love interests and less googlie eyed golden retrievers but that’s just a personal preference. There were times the dialog felt childish and took me out of the moment too. The other reason this isn’t rated higher is the subtle insults to women and bi people. Seth and Cam are bi and they made a comment about how they share girls because they’re too bi to settle for just each other which is just offensive. There was also a bit of slut shaming and negative connotations to stereotypical feminine things that should not be happening in books today. I still had fun reading this one and I don’t believe this was the authors intent so I am going to give the next book a try.

I'm a firm believer that not every book needs to be an omega verse but with its popularity a lot of authors dip their toes in.

This is short. I read it in under 4 hours. One thing I've been able to count on is a/b/o books being THICK.

Things I like

Dylan for the most part but I have to agree with one of the other reviews my eyes roll every time I come across an omega who doesn't want to be an omega. The preexisting mm wasn't bad. It's always hit or miss for me and this was pretty middle of the road. I liked the banter.

Things I didn't like the total and complete lack of spice. How fast it was over.
Do I care enough to read part two? Maybe if nothing else comes out around it but this felt like if you took a/b/o out and just made omegas trafficking victims it probably wouldn't have made much difference outside of scents

My mood reader brain has been having a hard time finding books it wants to finish so I'm excited that I managed that with this one! This was a total shot in the dark for me and I'm surprised with how much I ended up liking it. The world building could have been a little more prominent but the overarching plot was interesting enough to keep things moving along at a nice and steady pace.

It was fun to be in Dylan's head. She's a bad*ss in both actions and words. I appreciate how self-sufficient she is and how she can punch a grown alpha down with one blow. Though I did dislike the slut shame-y comments that she would throw around (other characters did this too). The pack was cool to get to know. I think 3 is a great number for a reverse harem. They all had distinct personalities and were interesting to get to know.

A highly addictive omegaverse, filled with suspense, action and longing.

The chemistry is perfect and the each of the guys brings something to the table. Our female lead has a good head on her shoulders and doesn’t take shit from anyone. I can’t wait to see their dynamics and relationships evolve.

But with how the books end, I’m hoping we get a good amount of groveling on the guys part.

Shame it isn’t April yet because I want to know what happen asap 👀

This is promising, however, i fear the author will ruin this so I’m not going into the next book with high hope.

We have a badass FMC, who knows and loves to fight, doesn’t want to be shackled to alphas…. But she goes into a pre heat and almost let’s them win her over like that just because they are scent matches.

I swear to god, if the author turns this super badass, strong and charismatic FMC in a damsel in distress that can’t even punch anymore or screams and hides in front of danger I will kms. I’m so tired of authors doing that.

Normally I avoid Omegaverse. Some of them have to much bodily fluids for me. And they are all about the smut. The only Omegaverse book I loved so far was The Pack Darling Series.
The blurb of Dylan St. James sounded like this Duet would have a plot. And I already read the four books in Elizabeth Dear's A Knight's Revenge Universe. So I gave it a try but waited until shortly before the second book was released last Friday.

I really love the plot and the relationship building. The first book was a very slow relationship building. I love Dylan the FMC and also the MMCs. There are great side characters and also great evil people.

The story is simple: Dylan and her family rescue abused omegas. One of the packs who abused their Omega hired the younger Bryce Pack to find their kidnapped Omega. Somehow they follow a trail and find Dylan in her families shop. They are drawn to her. Turns out that things are different than the facts presented to the Bryce's.....

The second book has more steam than the first book. But the author never forgets the plot. I was highly entertained by this Duet and finding something as good as this one is kind of hard.

ATTENTION EVERYBODY! Elizabeth Dear has done it again! She stepped into another new genre and to nobody’s surprise completely knocked it out of the park! 🩷🙌🏻

I don’t know where to begin, I loved literally everything about this story! I haven’t read too much omegaverse lately but OMG this book makes me want binge the genre until Omega Revealed comes out! First of all, Dylan is the definition of a boss lady and I loved her from the very first page! She is my favorite kind of FMC who is always fighting to do what’s right but will also take no flak from anybody! The whole St. James family was honestly a vibe and I loved each and every one of them! I also adored Seraphina! We were introduced to her a little later than everyone else but man did she pack a punch! I’m hoping we get lots of girl time between her and Dylan soon because I can only imagine the beautiful chaos they could raise together on a girls night out! 🤭

And the men? SWOON! While I’m usually more of an enemies to lovers girl I was LIVING for the instant attraction Dylan had with these three. I mean can you blame her? We’ve got a hot set of alpha brothers and their sunshine beta who will capture your heart from the second you meet him! And their chemistry with Dylan? Freaking incredible! They made such a great team and had the best banter and sexual tension throughout the whole book! To say I was upset with the boys’ decisions toward the end would be an understatement, I WAS DEVASTATED! They were so wonderful the whole book but then made one dumb decision that had me wanting to throttle them all lol. They got it together by the end but I am firmly Team Dylan at the moment and I hope she wrecks them! But seeing them all fired up and ready to do whatever it takes to get her back has me so pumped to see how everything plays out!

The main thing I love about this book and Elizabeth’s writing in general, besides the fact that she writes the best FMCs, is that I can always count on a good plot to spice ratio! While there is a romantic story arc dedicated to the growth and development of the relationships between our FMC and her men there is also a well-developed story happening around these characters that you get sucked into as well. There was so much action from the first chapter and we never had to wait long for the plot to move forward. At this point, I’m just as invested in seeing our characters take on and defeat the villains of the story as I am in watching them come together as a family unit! I swear there is so much I’m looking forward to in the next book that it would take forever to list it all out but if you love omegaverse or want to try exploring the genre then I could not recommend this book enough! I’m already counting down the days until April 26th!

Everyone that has been raving about this book is NOT wrong!

I was nervous to start because of my own idea of what this story was going to be, but let me tell you, the way this book unfolds is a treasure! Dylan is everything she claims to be, plus a bit stubborn. The reason behind Dylan's reluctance to accept her Omega nature felt legitimate and believable for this world. I don't always find that to be the case in other OV books with the same trope. The Pack: Austin (Alpha), Seth (Alpha), and Cameron (Beta & bonded to Seth) was wonderful. They are strong, caring, sexy, sweet, smart, and forthright. Their slow but direct woo-ing of Dylan was filled with so much sexual tension. For a book with only one sex scene (at the very end!) I was not missing the spice - and that is never the case for me! The actual plot of finding missing Omegas and taking on a group of incel "traditionalist" Alphas was inspired. A lot of what happens in this book is not unlike what's happening politically in the US today - that may be a positive or negative for you, but I loved it. I cannot wait to see how these characters work together to get their HEA.

This story wouldn't be the same with the amazing St. James family. Daisy and Derrick are delightful. The sibling ribbing and annoying each other on purpose was very funny.

And I really hope the next Omega, Seraphina (Austin & Seth's sister), gets with the pack I'm thinking she does.

I don’t know what it was about this book, but it had me so hooked. I’m not a big reverse harem girly, and I feel like I’ve read other stories that were very similar to this one, but the vibes here and the execution were just so good.

I also loved all the side characters like Derrick, Daisy and Sera.

Sure, the FMC was a little pick-me. She really cares about omegas who don’t want to join an alpha pack and judges those who do. However, I actually thought that made her character more believable, seeing as she’s struggling with her own identity as an omega.

I was shocked when I saw an OMV and read the author name. I love that this author, whose other why choose series I love, has ventured into OMV. I had to read it immediately.

The idea behind this story arc was great. I love the FMC and her family who fight behind the scenes to rescue abused omegas. This author does familial relationships really well, and that shows in this book as well. I also loved Daisy and hope she gets her own book a few years from now when she's older. She's a fun character

I liked the FMC for the most part, but had to shut off the annoyed part of my brain that had me rolling my eyes every time she let us know how unlike average omegas AND betas she was. She doesn't want to be an omega but she doesn't want to be a basic beta either because she generalizes and slut shames them both for wanting alpha knots (and her alpha brother for indulging them). Like girl, come on, this is 2024.

The MMCs were okay, but a little..... lacking in character development. It got better towards the end though.

‼️‼️SPOILERS

The world is interesting, but we only got a peek at everything that I'm sure will come to a head in the next book. I almost wish I had waited until it was out because I am DYING to see if she makes these guys work for her forgiveness or not. After falling for her instantly and declaring how they'd always be there for her, they ultimately left her and didn't choose her because she was a beta, even though it made them sick to ditch her. They all felt drawn to her, and at least one even felt like she was theirs, but they all ignored that because of her designation....which is the biggest thing she was afraid of. She wanted someone to love her for herself and not because of biology.

I just hope the grovel really makes up for that in the next book, and that she doesn't just give in because body betrayal or something like that, because that's a huge thing to overcome. Please, please, please make it good grovel🙏🏽

In a perfect world, Dylan St. James would’ve been the woman of my dreams. Sexy as fuck, those big hazel eyes sparkling with mischief as she remained so stubbornly immune to my wiles.

Holy shirtballs! Elizabeth Dear’s first venture into OV was amazing! She's been a one-click author since I found her rejected-mates PNR Mate Fortune (highly, highly recommended!), and her NA series, A Knight's Revenge, is one of my all-time favorites. Dylan St. James: Omega Concealed elevates her even higher.

While overall, this book isn’t dark, the world has strong dystopian elements that bring in some darker themes. Omegas are treated as possessions and not given a real choice on who/when they bond. Once they emerge as an omega, they are registered and assigned to a pack “for the greater good.”

I loved the FMC, Dylan. She was a tough AF omega in hiding, not just for her safety, but to live a normal life. One where she has the freedom to help other omegas in unsafe situations and isn’t ruled by her nature. She has a choice. Elizabeth, thank you for making her “normal” sized and not some tiny thing. Not only does that make her hide more effectively (looking more like a beta than a short and curvy omega), but her size supports her ability to fight and stand up to much larger alphas.

Too hot for his own good, Cam is my favorite of Dylan’s suitors. Perhaps it is that he is a beta, but he does not care what designation Dylan holds. He wants her for who she is. (As an aside, I always love the beta in the pack the most because they want and fall in love with the omega without the biological urge that drives alphas to them). The alpha twins hold promise, but they have a long way to go to convince Dylan they aren’t being driven by their designation. Who she is matters more than what she is.

This book is slow-burn with minimal spice. There is an established MM relationship within the pack, but it is not explored in explicit detail here.

Part one ends at a significant cliffhanger. I NEED part two now!

Highly recommended! 10/10

Genre: Contemporary Omegaverse Romance
Tropes/Features: Dystopian vibes with some dark themes, scent matches/fated mates, KA omega in hiding FMC, security team pack, sexy beta, established MM in pack, twins, vigilante, secrets/betrayal

Relationship Type: Why Choose MMFM, slow burn, minimal spice
Book Type/Ending: Part one of duet, cliffhanger ending

Love to see that ED who gave us the super fun Mave Fortune has written an Omegaverse. I must have missed this when it came out, the cover is pretty average but I had high hopes.

Dylan is a super strong FMC and love that she has a loving supportive family, like Mave. The plots is saucy and entertaining. The MMC are interesting and we will get to know more in the next book, but didn’t love some of the misogyny already in here. The comments about other women dating or hooking up with her brother were OTT and when the alphas in her prospective pack were discussing getting an omega with their beta, Cam, he emphasized twice that his motivations for doing so would be to have kids. I hate when this happens in RH or OV. MMC are already in a MM relationship and act like the woman is there to provide a womb like she would just be the surrogate for them.
Despite these small issues it was still a fun read and I look forward to scoping out the sequel when it comes out.

Dylan St. James: Omega Concealed is the first book in the Dylan St. James Omegaverse series written by Elizabeth Dear.

*Omegaverse
*Badass FMC
*Cliffhanger ending

Dylan St. James is a badass Omega presenting herself as a Beta to the world so that she can help other Omegas escape abusive situations.

Austin and Seth are Alpha brothers who, along with their Beta Cameron, help find missing Omegas that have been taken against their will.

When these four characters meet, an instant connection is formed, even with the suspicions that arise between them. Together the four must determine who the actual good guys and bad guys really are, all before more girls go missing.

No OW/OM drama, slight jealously but no cheating. No third act breakup but does end on a cliffhanger. No spicy scenes except one at the very end of the book.

Format: KU ebook
Genre: Fantasy Romance
Overall score:⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice level:🌶️🌶️
Characters: Dylan (FMC) & Austin, Seth, Cameron (MMC’s)

Okay, this book is on par to the Empyrean series for me. Like the tension, the ass kickingness and the romance is at the just perfect level for me. So it's getting a solid 5 stars from me. Did I perhaps over rate it? Maybe? But I don't care. This is my take on this book and it gave it's heart and soul back to me.

A little summary of the book;
Dylan St. James is an Omega in hiding. Her family is trying to help her avoid becoming a breeding stock to greedy alphas. Yes, this is an Omegaverse and a hella good one at that! After a slight hiccup with one of her contacts she is now at risk revealing her secret to the government. Only to make things worse for her, one of her families rescue missions brings Alpha trouble to her store, but the good kind, if you know what I mean. But it takes all of them till the end of the book to realise some things, and then it's left on a suspending cliffhanger!? Thank god the second book is already out, otherwise this would be another Empyrean meltdown...

I liked this one all the way up until the end. Another pack going along with their parents' wants. A shame, I was liking Rodrigo and the rest. It was different and fun with the rescues and the competence on both sides. Plenty of bad guys getting their asses handed to them. Cam was a sweetheart, I loved how he was instantly Daisy's best friend. Austin and Seth had their own protective streak going. The D trio was great with how close they were as a family and how well they worked together. Cliffhanger ending with misunderstandings and groveling to come.

Elizabeth has done it again! I’m eagerly anticipating the next book in this duet, and wishing it was going to be more than two books. I love this story, and these characters so much.

I love Dylan. She stands up for what she believes in and doesn’t take crap from anyone, including the Alphas she likes to take down in her spare time. The whole St. James family is pretty much the same, and I love them all, especially her twin brother Derrick. Then we’ve got Austin, Seth, and Cameron, the swoon worthy MCs who have an instant attraction to Dylan. Cam is the Beta of the group and instantly wants Dylan to be part of their pack, but Dylan swore off pack life long ago. But she can only deny the pull she feels toward the pack for so long.

Austin and Seth’s sister, Seraphina comes in at the end and I hope we get more of her in the next book. I would love to see her form a friendship with Dylan, especially after how she helped her out at the end of this book. Add in Dylan’s adoptive sister Daisy to the mix, and it’s sure to be a fun time!

I love that Elizabeth writes such strong FMCs in her books. While there is an undeniable attraction between the main characters in this book, they also spend time getting to know one another. But after that cliffhanger ending, the guys want Dylan even more.

If you’re a fan of Omegaverse, a strong FMC, hot Alphas and Betas, vigilante sh*t, why choose, or slow burns that are worth the wait, I highly suggest this book!

I am a huge fan of Elizabeth Dear and have read all her books. I really, really wanted to give this 5 stars. The plot was great, it was fast-paced and I liked the push/pull of the characters. I highly recommend this book! I think OV readers will really get a kick out of it.

HOWEVER. It’s getting 4 stars from me because a couple things grated. First, Dylan is awesome for the most part, but, as all the characters were falling over themselves to say, she’s beautiful, strong, cool, and not like other girls. One character said “I wish I could be like her when I grow up.” This is kind of a tell, not show situation and it moves Dylan a bit too into Mary Sue territory for my comfort.

Also, there has become a theme now throughout Dear’s books that I’m a bit uncomfortable with. The good female characters are always good, but the other girls are all vapid, slutty, mean girls. And they deserve to be ridiculed by Dylan and company? I actually felt bad for the first “slut.” She had sex with the brother, came to see him the next day, and was tricked into leaving and laughed at behind her back. These unnecessary interactions really brought me out of the story and seem a bit sexist.

Regardless, I’m looking forward to the next book and more from this author!
