With her home under siege and her children in mortal danger, Mara's retreat from the homestead is necessary, but it comes at a great physical, mental and emotional cost. In Tennessee, Mara's sister Deb must go to great lengths to save the life of her friend, but doing so puts her into a life-or-death situation that she may not be able to escape. Logan, meanwhile, is once again in pursuit of Braden, desperate to rescue him from the clutches of a foe willing to use an innocent child as a pawn in a game of cat and mouse.
A series of global earthquakes cascade across the world, their ferocity unmatched by any other natural disaster in human history. Cities are turned to rubble in moments, deep bunkers are sealed shut in an instant, tens of millions are dead in the first hours, and as aftershocks threaten to further destabilize what remains, those few who survived are forced to navigate a broken country.
On her Virginia homestead, Mara Padgett faces an impossible task: keeping her three children safe as food runs low and desperation runs high. Separated by hundreds of miles from his wife at their homestead, Logan barely survives a plane crash and takes a young orphan under his wing, but must soon choose between the child's welfare and quickly returning to his own family.
Meanwhile, Mara's sister Deb is one of the few to have survived the cataclysmic tremors triggered by the New Madrid fault line that left much of the East Coast in ruins. With nothing left for her in Memphis, she embarks on a perilous trek across the ruined landscape to join her sister in Virginia, though what she finds along the way will test her in ways she can never imagine.
In Washington, D.C., geologist Ripley Baxter is buried alive in the remains of the White House bunker, with the President presumed dead and no hope for rescue. She must summon the strength to free herself from the rubble or face a slow, agonizing death, but nothing has prepared her for the journey - and obstacles - she will face along the way.
OH... the heart palpitations!!! 😬 SUCH an I.N.T.E.N.S.E. series!! I've already locked and loaded the next series (Inferno) by these authors onto my tablet ... and there's still two more in this series! If this genre is on your radar, you really should check it out! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A really good episode in this thrilling post apocalyptic series! Interesting continuation of the story. Some really great characters & scenarios, a little angst, lots of action & excitement, a mile a minute adventure! I can't wait to read the next part in this very enjoyable story.
this is a great series with relatable characters and a good plot line. I did notice a couple of editing issues, one being the Pacific Ocean called the Atlantic when they were off the California (new) coastline. But it is a page turner.
I had some hope that the Logan storyline would improve after the cliffhanger in book 3; it has been some of the weakest part of the story. Some telling of his story tends to be tedious in the detail, but it is still his decision making that is in question. You have a gun, two of the three guys beat you badly to slow you down, one woman was deceptive to get others to join Jasper, Jasper is Jasper and they stole the toddler you are trying to take on a quest to his dad. Instead you throw a brick? You nearly are caught in the disaster that biblically strikes the bad guys? Like I said before, Logan will not get halfway to his quest destination before the series ends. The Deb storyline is OK, though a bit cliché with the bad guy-land grabber. Mara and Caroline are just getting tiresome with their squabbling, mostly the fault of immature and impulsive Caroline. The Ripley storyline has been the most interesting so far, but this book was a let down. There is no earthly reason that Ordway should send his Science Advisor on a mission to rescue people who might have survived in California. She has no experience or expertise in rescue etc. She does have expertise in advising the president on ... science. The quakes and instability are still an issue. I've made it this far and want to finish the series, but my interest and ability to suspend my belief in common sense and science is flagging.

This is a great series. I keep wondering why this series isn’t talked about more? Also why isn’t this series offered in audiobook form. The characters are realists and very likable. The story line is believable and thought provoking. I love this series and hope that it will be offered in audiobook form.
Such a great continuation of this story. I’m anxious to see how everything plays out with Mara’s portion of the story. Especially because how she initially felt about the Crowes. All 4 of our characters were left in a really precarious situation, and honestly 2 of them really pissed me off because they didn’t learn from the past.
love this series Mra fighting for family,Logan trying to get the toddler home, nd Riley trying to keep people safe. Great characters amid earthquakes. looking forward to next book. check out the cliffhangers
Logan still pisses me off. And why is the president sending a science nerd on rescue missions???? This series is intriguing but bordering on so cringe I can’t put it down because I want to see what type of absurdity happens next.
What a story, earthquakes everywhere. Mara is only interested in saving her children, will she be able to accomplish that. Full of intrigue, suspense and definitely danger. Totally enjoyable.
