Rate this book

Just as wonderful as the rest of the series. When it comes to Cooper and Park's relationship, I think this book might be my favourite. I re-read, or rather listened to, all the previous books before reading this one and I love how with each book we get to know them better. I loved watching them grow both as characters and as a couple.

I think the setting for this one was perfect as it gave them the opportunity to learn more about themselves, be more open and talk about their feelings. The character development was amazing, especially Cooper's. I couldn't love him more than I do. There were so many hilarious and sweet moments between Cooper and Park, I was swooning. I love their chemistry and the dynamics between them. They are definitely among my favourite couples.

The mystery part was pretty good. There were a few things that weren't too believable, but I still enjoyed it and it definitely kept me guessing. The side characters were really great, too.

The ending was a bit abrupt, but only because I wanted more. Can't wait for the next book in the series! I hope we'll see more of Eli, I really liked him in book 3.

4.5 Cooper and Park stars

description

“I’m filthy,” Cooper murmured in protest. “I realized that the first week I met you,” Park said

Reading this book felt like coming home, I had really missed Cooper, Park and Boogie. I am fixed for now, I just have to wait until 2021 to read the next one.

GAAAAAAHHH!!!!!

description

Book 4 in the series and not disappointed. Charlie stayed true to the characters, I fell in love with Cooper and Parker in book 1 and in book 4 I am still head over heels. It is usually rare for books in series to maintain the characterization and the writing. Some add drama and unnecessary shenanigans just to fill the pages. I am happy to report that it is not the case here. This series keeps getting better. The character growth is so well done.

description

Cooper is still our sole narrator and lawd this guy is awkwardly hilarious. A very relatable guy, you can’t help but fall in love with him. With all his awkwardness he makes a good agent. I love his case solving skills. Park is the opposite of Cooper, calm and collected big bad wolf. I love him too. They complement each other and together they make the best couple ever. The conversations and the banter between the two had me LOLing hard.

“You’re lucky I’m too tired to break up with you,” Cooper warned, but was unable to contain his chuckle, and a few people looked over at them curiously. He lowered his voice to match Park’s near whisper. “So I was right. People are being extra worried for me.”

The mystery was interesting enough to keep me going. Though I questioned the investigation a bit, it didn’t stop me from enjoying the ride. The balance between the mystery and the relationship is so well done, one does not overshadow the other one. Me likey very very much.

The sex between Cooper and Park is always hot and hilarious to read. Their chemistry is off the charts. These two burn up the sheets with hotness and humour, best combo ever!

“No, no. I’m fine. I’m just thinking.” “About running a marathon? Your heart is beating out of your chest,” Park said. “Shhh,” Cooper said. “Hold me tighter,”

The humor in this series is right up my alley, Cooper has some of the best mumbled one liners. I kept picturing his face when he says things that had me busting out loud. Adhara has an amazing sense of humor.

This series is highly recommended. Not your usual Werewolf shifter stories, but one of the best.

Thanks you Ele, Moony and Teal for the awesome buddy read. 🤗🤗

Oh this lovely lovely book. What more can I add?

The story picks up where we left off in the last installment. However, this time Cooper and Park are playing house and are looking for a place to live.

But as they're cosplaying husband and husband, they receive a call asking them to go to an estate not too far from where they were real estate window shopping. Due to Park's history as the Shepherd, which he is desperate to atone for, Park and Cooper are roped into going undercover to a couples' retreat to investigate the disappearance of a man from Park's past.

The story starts out with a steady drip drip drip of things that seem innocuous. From Cooper's sudden infatuation with marriage to his displeasure with the idea of being an alpha. This book is what I'd like to call a slow burn mystery. The action takes a bit of time to get to the good bits but the wait is worth it.

I do wish for paranormal mysteries to become more mainstream and once more I do wish for more fiction with gay protags so that I can experience a bit of tension and no guarantee of a HEA. MMs kinda take the wind out of my suspense sails. (Please recommend such to me if you do come across them.)

But I digress. This book was like getting a slice of chocolate cake after craving wheat for years. And what's more, it leaves us pining for a sequel that answers questions from a previous book. And boy oh boy I can't fucking wait.

Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a review copy in exchange for an honest review.

You just need to read it, and experience the joy for yourself.

They flirt like a new couple after 4 books, and I am a wet pile of mushy peas after 👏 EVERY 👏 SINGLE 👏 INTERACTION 👏

Snaps for Cooper in this whole book, ya girl goes through it, and is still super cute the whole time.
I don't remember the last time I whole heartedly loved a couple as much as these 2.

Keep you forever," he murmured, almost more to himself. "Safe."
Cooper laced his fingers through Park's. "Yes." He felt Park bury his face against the back of his neck and let out a shuddering sigh. His hand snaked down to grip Cooper's dick and began to stroke him in time to his thrusts.
"Cooper," Park whispered over and over. "K-keep me, too. Please. Say you'll—"
"I'll keep you," Cooper gasped through his tight throat, eyes stinging. "You're mine. You'll always be mine.

these two dorks have gone through so much and their growth—as a couple and individuals—was honestly chefs kiss, following it through these past four books. i simply love and adore them, what more is there to say? 🥺🤍

For a series that I started off so-so on it sure has turned around. Now it's Sophie's Choice difficult to say whether this one or Thrown to the Wolves is my favorite. Luckily I don't have to choose!

Charlie Adhara has built these characters from the ground up, made them not just multi-dimensional but shown their growth as characters, specifically Cooper. He and Park make each other a better version of themselves which is something that appeals to me as a romance reader.

While they have always had an almost elemental chemistry with one another, the longer they are together, the closer they become, the more they trust each other deepens and enriches that chemistry oftentimes in creative and delightfully depraved ways. Evidenced here in the power dynamic between them which is wholly unique and captivating, something I've never experienced before. Though not to be undersold is their banter. The connection they share has fostered the comical and droll aspects of their personalities and allowed that playfulness to shine.

Lastly, this case not only kept me guessing til the end but the whole alpha thing I found both surprising and fascinating.

I'm so grateful I didn't give up on Cooper and Park because they have turned into one of my favorite couples, so I was thrilled to learn there will be another installment in 2021!

Get your popcorn ready, people! Prepare to be entertained, maybe be a bit puzzled from time to time and for the swooning.

Highly recommended especially to fans of the series and if you haven't yet started it, what are you waiting for?

5 Sigh Worthy Stars

I’ll try to make this quick because if you haven’t read the prior 3 books, turn yourself around and start with The Wolf at the Door!

What this 4th installment does so well, in and amongst a standard missing person’s case, is to really allow the reader to finally see how Cooper and Park are doing since all the werewolfy secrets came out previously in Thrown to the Wolves. Their love is strong, but they’re still navigating the little things, still learning about each other, and testing the waters of their unusual, unconventional relationship that is all things dominant, submissive, protective, and supporting.

If you were jonesing for more exploration between these two, then come on over! Cooper’s snarky voice really shines here, and it’s a testament to how far they’ve come that Park gives it back just as good. In the past, Cooper often frustrated me with his anxious valid insecurities and though he’s now confident in loving and being loved, his issues are better understood here, for instead of running away from them, he pushes past the awkward wanting to do right by Park no matter how uncomfortable it might make him. Be reassured this sentiment goes both ways, as it’s so evident that these men want the other to be happy, to meet each other's needs, and to have absolutely no misunderstandings or barriers to anything. I relished every single moment they shared, struggled with, and worked out together to get things done!

Park continues to be a stellar book hubby here; the man can do no wrong in my eyes. He struggles with his past, wanting to make amends and atone, and despite his formidable innate alpha persona, he easily acquiesces to all things Cooper, still retaining his alluring indomitable strength and power. As mentioned above, there’s a push pull here to their dynamic, each giving in yummy sexy explicit ways, and keeping me oh so rapt as I watched these two dance their lovely dance (*stuffing face with popcorn without blinking*). Unf!

So suffice it to say, and I apologize for not being succinct as was my original intention to do so, I’ve only grown to love these two more and more. I'm just putting it out there, should Park ever get tired of Cooper, I’m readily available!

All kidding aside, this has now elevated to a top favorite series as this isn’t your typical shifter romance. It’s gritty and dramatic, it alternates between spot on levity with equal amounts of suspense, all with a continued fascinating exploration into werewolf culture but never skimping on what's most important, and that’s the story of these two fascinating protagonists. Adhara has created something special here, making this a rare unputdownable page turner that sadly, always goes too fast. Again, one can only hope that she continues to give us more of this lovely duo that has yet to disappoint!

Never did I ever think I would be obsessed with a fictional werewolf man but here we are and I AM NOT ASHAMED! This was SO SATISFYING! I LOVE COOPER AND PARK!

I adore that these two feel like they are still flirting on their first date and their banter remains fresh and top notch after 4 books together. Every interaction between them makes me squee! And oh boy do we finally get the scene I have been waiting for, Park is certainly very, very good at it 😉

This book had it all - Cooper’s ragingly endearing anxiousness and self doubt overflowing into genuine vulnerability at last, Park NAME DROPPING himself like the royal beast that he is and commanding all the badassery in the room and a mystery where I genuinely had no idea who the bad person was until the final reveal.

As much as Cooper has really grown on me throughout this series and I find him very relatable Park has consistently delivered once again. He has a lemon notebook, he is a fur covered hot bottle and that moment he acts excited?! Dead, I am actually dead ☠️

Me, fangirling over Park this entire freaking book

I’ve probably said it before, but just to reiterate: this is the best human/werewolf romance series I’ve read. EVER.

This is not your ordinary werewolf-y romance. It’s complex and layered and masterfully written, with intricate murder-mystery plots unfolding in each book and a pitch perfect relationship progression across the board, between MCs Cooper and Park, that always leaves me feeling awed, entertained and positively gooey by the end.

In Wolf in Sheep's Clothing, Cooper and Park take a break from house hunting and instead head to a werewolf couples retreat in the mountains, undercover, to solve a missing persons case that swiftly turns into a complicated web of lies and, unsurprisingly, murder!

I won’t touch too heavily on the mystery portion of the story, but to say there were many players and possible motivates—a classic whodunnit—and I never guessed the culprit until all was revealed, which in itself deserves praise. I could argue that there were perhaps too many characters to keep straight, but this is often the case in such stories that I continually struggle with where others may not.

The strength of the story, as always, is in how Cooper and Park are so perfectly portrayed as characters who feel so damn real and nuanced, with genuine fears and insecurities, as well as hopes and dreams, that all heavily now revolve around how (and why) they love each other. They are such a great match, complimenting each other in a way that feels natural and necessary. I could simply read about these two forever and never tire of their dynamic, they’re that wonderfully engaging to me.

It’s clear I’m a fangirl of Cooper and Park, and I enjoyed this instalment to their story very much. I look forward to not only continuing the series, but also revisiting the earlier stories in my future, because re-reading a series this good is a no-brainer for me.

Slowly re-reading this series. Even better the second time around.

Cooper and Park go undercover to solve a mystery at a couple’s therapy retreat for werewolves.
They had hiked two and a half miles of steep terrain at forty-five degree angle from the quarry, carrying all the gear they’d need to then raft another two miles down the river. In Cooper’s humble opinion, if he and Park had actually been having relationship issues, all this physical work would have sent them over the edge.
Cooper’s dialogue and snark are hilarious!
Park at beside him and touched his shoulder lightly. “Hey there. Hey. How are you doing? You need me to carry. you?”

“You’re lucky I’m too tired to break up with you.” Cooper warned.
Cooper is obviously the city guy (and human) so all the rah-rah athleticism and bonding over hard work isn’t doing him any favors. Park (being a shifter) is able to handle the physical activities much better. As they traverse the countryside, take tests to figure out their AQ, and try to solve a murder, a disappearance and multiple other mysteries, they also learn more about their relationship. The therapists seem a bit odd and recommendations are different at this retreat.
Cooper was mildly astonished. Half the advice this place gave was to go have sex. “Morning, noon and night, how is there room for afternoon delight?” he whispered to Park.
There is of course, an obligatory five minute theraputic bonding hug which horrifies Cooper as he doesn’t like to be touched very much.
“I’m in hell” Cooper muttered into Park’s neck, five seconds into their hug. He felt Park shake with suppressed laughter then squeeze him gently around the waist.
The mystery felt a bit like a game of Clue. It was the werewolf in the laundry room, with the knife. Overall I really enjoyed the story and LOVED Cooper and Park together.

5 Stars!

I had hoped for more books so I was pleasantly surprised to find this 4th installment to the Big Bad Wolf series. I had no idea! So I may have did that embarrassing squeal and clap thing one does when they find something like this that excites them. I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book and start it. I love being in Cooper's head and getting to see more and more of his walls fall down for his Mate/Partner Oliver. This book did not disappoint one bit. I loved every second of it.

The book starts off with Cooper and Oliver looking at houses to buy. Oliver looks to have expensive taste and it has Cooper feeling on edge and a bit reluctant to leave the comfort of his apartment. We know by now that Cooper doesn't do well with change. So for him to possibly go from his small apartment to a possible mini-mansion really isn't helping. It's quite funny though because Oliver keeps a little yellow notebook that keeps track of Coopers likes and dislikes on every house they see right down to his facial expressions. I found that cute/hilarious. But Cooper is feeling a bit overwhelmed with the house hunting so he is quite relieved when a call from their ex-boss interrupts another house showing. She needs their help...
Oliver and Cooper are loaned out to the BSI to go undercover at a couples counseling retreat for werewolves. There's a former Alpha missing who was working at the retreat as the groundsman, one Oliver knows from his past as the Sheppard. The retreat is secluded in the mountains with a breathtaking scenery. There are interesting couples and a staff that is sparse and a bit on the shady side. They also seem to be changed out quite often. Are the past staff missing as well or did they leave on their own? When Oliver and Cooper arrive they find their is more than one person who is suspiciously missing and then soon more people start dropping dead. In the middle of all this is these couple activities that Cooper and Oliver are participating in that are suppose to be a part of their act, but Cooper can't help but take them serious. He's always felt like he doesn't know enough about their dynamic in their relationship. Especially the Alpha part. He doesn't want Park to feel like he is obligated to him. So having all the couple exercises and the AQ test really brings Cooper's fears to the surface.

The murder mystery was as much at the forefront as the relationship was. I really love when a story is able to balance these both out equally. I couldn't get enough of Cooper and Oliver. Their relationship has grown so much. They share a lot more with each other instead of ignoring the issue or letting it burrow inside of them. I love Cooper's prickly side to Oliver's softer side. They really do have great chemistry and fit so well together. I especially love their banter. They crack me up.
The murder mystery was interesting. It got even more interesting when we find out what was really going on. I had my own thoughts and they were pretty close to what was happening. It was just all together a really great read and a great addition to this series. I'm thrilled with the ending because that means another book is for sure in the future for this series. I just wish the wait wasn't so long.

Happy reading dolls! xx

Okay, okay, that’s it. I suspected it would come to this early on but this book just sealed the deal. Are you ready for these news? Here we go: OLIVER AND COOPER ARE OFFICIALLY MY MOST FAVOURITE COUPLE EVER THEY ARE THE ABSOLUTE SWEETEST AND FUNNIEST AND HOTTEST AND MOST LOVABLE AND HAVE TAKEN 1st PLACE.

It’s hard to comprehend for me, that I, the one who has virtually no interest in reading sequels with already established couples, am loving this series and relationship as much as I do. I’m so fucking INVESTED and IN LOVE with this world and everyone in it and never want it to end. I want to read about Cooper and Park for all eternity and am honestly scared of the series-hangover once I’m finished. All this comes down to the incredible plotting, pacing and writing of Charlie Adhara, who manages to keep me engaged in their relationship (and of course their cases but let’s be real we’re all here for these two magnificent men) throughout this series, with each book getting better and better.

THE CHARACTER GROWTH AND RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPMENT, PEOPLE, it’s honestly the best I think I’ve ever read? Can you even remember the defensive, prickly ‚I-don’t-want-to-talk‘ Cooper and blank, unreadable, emotionless Park?
Because… they understand themselves and their needs and wants and boundaries better now, they COMMUNICATE, honestly and openly, are vulnerable and familiar and secure in their relationship, have cuddle sessions that melt you, have the most amazing banter I’ve ever come across and fuck like kinky bunnies and I COULD NOT GET ENOUGH.

Ugh, I love them so much. I wasn’t THAT interested in the case tbh, because HELLO? They are AT A RURAL COUPLES THERAPY RETREAT. There was no room to focus on anything else, sue me. The case got me more intrigued towards the end though when the plot thickened and I really liked the dramatic climax! Also again, I had no clue who did it.

Best one yet, 5⭐️

Don't you hate when you read the latest book that is out in a series and you have that realization that you have to wait like a year until you get to be with your little book friends again? I mean, it's soooo unfair!! Life is so hard!!! Why, God, why????

Don't do it, girl! Don't cut bangs! Nothing is that bad! Just put down the scissors and back away slowly.

Okay, so.
Our favorite werewolf/human couple (yeah, I said it. Come at me bro) is going undercover at a retreat for couples in trouble. Great, a couple of trust falls, some "I just feel like.."'s, hugs, and maybe a few murders should really put the shine back in that relationship. Cuz, truly, don't you always feel better about your relationship after watching the train wreck that is other people's relationships? Oh, me and the hubs really bond over laughing at other couples. It's our shared hobby. Couple-time.

See, now that's a happy, healthy relationship!

But, the murders really put the spice back into things. When you are stuck at a secluded camp that has all the makings of a Friday the 13th movie and people are dying around you, every night could be your last night on earth. It's pretty exciting!

Worse cock-blocker since children were invented.

I really liked this installment in the series. Cooper and Park are finally, finally, starting to open up and talk to each other about what they are thinking. It has been frustrating to watch them try and skirt around things and hide important issues in the past. So, murders or not, this retreat was good for them.

I'm also looking forward to them being that awesome couple that solves crime together going forward. And, I think they should get a butler when they get a new house. That's what this series is missing.

5+++ stars for the relationship development, 4 for the murder mystery.

Because yes, I can’t rate them together.

Let’s start with the part I enjoyed.

Firstly, surprisingly, I loved the narration. Either Erik Bloomquist grew on me, or he really improved through the books. Funny side fact: while I had to slow down the narration in book 1, I listened to normal speed during book 2 and 3, and here, I had to speed it up, so hooray to the tech genius who came up with the idea to customise the narration speed.

Second thing I loved: their relationship, and Cooper and Oliver as characters. While it’s a general consensus that Cooper is one of the best book boyfriends EVER despite (or because) he’s a porcupine (maybe because we’re more in his head because the book is told from his -3rd person- pov and we get to know Oliver only through Cooper’s eyes), the urge to strangle Oliver Park has entirely disappeared and I loved his little quirks (like the little lemon-coloured notebook in which he carefully keeps track of all the houses he and Cooper looked at, as well as Cooper’s reaction to them).

The ending is soooo… them 😂

“I want to marry you, Oliver.”
“But... why?” Park stuttered.

“Oh, the usual reasons,” Cooper said. “Insurance benefits, uninhibited access to your wealth in case a mad scientist ever turns you into a regular wolf-wolf and I need to buy us a secret estate, tax deductions, you’re the absolute love of my life, visitation rights, et cetera.” Park blinked at him rapidly, and to Cooper’s surprise, his eyes looked a little shiny.

“Oh,” he said, and cleared his throat. “Um, no. I mean, I’m not opposed,” he corrected hurriedly.

“Well then.”

What I didn’t like as much: the murder mystery. Again, as always in this series, we have SO MANY NEW CHARACTERS, basically we only know Cooper and Oliver (and very few, very short cameos from people we already met) and the rest of the characters are new. And I’m talking about 10-15 new names with more or less fleshed out background stories. It feels like I should draw a map with arrows pointing from one to another. It’s a bit confusing and it makes it hard to figure out the culprit, especially if you’re listening. It all feels like one of those classic Agatha Christie novels, where in the end, all sit together in some kind of parlour and Hercule Poirot points out the murderer.

Still, I had a blast listening to it, so I’ll go with an overall reading of 5 stars.

And now excuse me while I’m off for the final instalment.

This author’s way of pacing is MASTERFUL. A WORK OF ART. GENIUS. If you want relationship development porn, unique paranormal world building with its politics porn, well established and cultivated and developed main characters porn; THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU. 👏 wow👏 perfection👏

Our guys move in together and giddy Park, is delicious and adorable. For the case this time, they go undercover in a couple’s retreat and ugh. A lot of greatness happens. I am very much dreading the final book because….then what? I. Need. More. because Cooper and Park have the greatest banter I have EVER read.

🎧 Someone obviously have been talking to the narrator about different character voices and intonation, he did a great job overall but the intimate scenes were better before, in my opinion.

I know I haven’t given any volume of this series all the stars, but damn if you aren’t going to have to pry the Cooper and Park stories out of my cold dead hands. My life won't allow me to write a real review of this one right now, so I'll just say a few things:

• Hands-down the best mystery so far in the series
• These two are still ALL THE HOT
• Adhara is doing a fabulous job making their past-the-HEA interesting and still in character
• Her writing is getting better and better; she's become an absolute autobuy for me, this series or otherwise
• Carina needs to up their copy editing/proofreading game

Ho-ho-how great was this! For reference, I started and finished this on Christmas Eve, so. That's why this opening line is funny to me right now.. knowing this won't go live until March.

But back on track!

I am new to this series, having binged the first three back in the summer, but seeing this installment up for request was exciting because a) I wasn't sure we'd get more and b) the third book was my favourite of the series so I had hoped that momentum, and track record, would continue on the up and up. And this was pretty damn great.

"Frankly, Dayton, I don't know anyone less concerned with pissing off people and wolves alike."
"Careful, all this flattery is going straight to my head."

It's hard to know what to talk about for a series that's a few books in but suffice it to say, if you're a fan, you'll still be, and if you're keen to start a m/m werewolf shifter series and this is the first you're hearing about it? Surprise! Go settle in for a nice binge. This one is much fun.

What the hell about him had Park seen and thought, Oh yes, anxiety-ridden loner with a temper sharper than a serpent's tongue and a deep-seated fear of change whose longest successful relationship is with an equally judgmental cat? Swoon.

On the emotional/relationship front, this one started to worry me a bit because I thought we had come very far in book three, and some of the issues Cooper was working through felt a little bit two steps back. But. Oh but. There were some great moments to push us even further than we'd gone in book three, and with some very good rationale and reasoning, and a heck of a lot of teasing. In the best way.

"It's not you, it's me."
"Very helpful. How on earth will an evolved couple like us convincingly pretend to need counseling?"

Plus? EeeeEeEeEeEe. <– this was my brain during a certain hug. That's all I'm saying.

"What do you think? Would Kyle and Andrew venture out and ask directions?"
"I don't know, are Kyle and Andrew auditioning for victims one and two in a horror movie?"
"Kyle would. Andrew needs to keep the car running and getaway ready. For reasons."
"I hate Andrew."
"That's why we're here."

The excuse for this particular adventure, going undercover at a couple's counseling retreat for werewolves, was genius. Who doesn't love the ‘pretend relationship’ trope except it's even juicier when they are in a relationship and get forced to work through some things. Delicious. Also, I liked how Adhara introduced another element for the shifters in such a natural way. It seems to happen in each book, the total opposite of an info dump, and always relevant for the moment, not for a ‘maybe in the future you need to know this’, and it's so perfect. The worldbuilding is so fabulous and so natural, so subtle.

"Nice secret passage. Narnia's keeping well, I assume."

So, yes, this wasn't Christmassy at all, I'm reading it three months early, but who even cares. I had so much fun, this was sexy as hell, and also hilarious. Sometimes I wonder which I like better, the humour or the swoons (it's both, but seriously, so funny). I can't wait for more because with the ending of this one, this series is definitely not over.

Re-Read - Think I enjoyed this far more on rereading, was less caught in the mystery and simply enjoyed the interactions. I love how both mc's are strong and independent yet also vulnerable when they allow themselves to be and in need of the other. Impresses me how much Adhara shows of her characters without hitting the reader about the head and pointing wildly. Curious about what's to come.

.......
I was so excited for this, love the characters, dynamic and world; among my favourites. Somehow it's taken me the longest time to read it though. Can't quite decide why that is.

Coops and Park are the same emotionally messy tough guys. Great as a couple, perfect for each other, but useless at communicating. Still love them.

The mystery is a stronger focus in this book than the previous. For me it had the air of Cluedo, and once that thought had struck I'm afraid I couldn't dispel it. At first it was the AQ debate seemed to dominate the story, I didn't feel any urgency about solving the larger mystery and characters seemed to appear and pose, Ms Scarlet, Col, Mustard... AQ is a large part of plot, Coops insecurities and group perceptions.

Loved the ending, the showdown from beginning to end, all it said and meant; Coops delivering his best lines and Park...being Park about it. And Cole made me laugh. I left the book happy.

Got to rate it high, I love the characters, the writing is good, fascinating wolf world and mystery - all great. For some reason there was never an urgency to pick the book up once put down though, can't place why that is, perhaps just timing. Will definiately read it again, likely go through them in order soon, it's a favourite series.

Look forward to more.

Now there's a cover and a blurb and oooooooh it sounds like a mess lol poor Coop. Should be interesting.

I've been waiting for this book for months, ever since Charlie Adhara said she had more Coop and Park to come.

As you can tell by my update and my rating, it absolutely did not disappoint.

Her take on shifters is quite different from the typical ones, with a covert approach to their existence that necessitates secrecy and caution.

She uses that element to her advantage in this investigation, which sees our heroes going undercover to a couple's relationship retreat to investigate a missing wolf.

There'll be no spoilers in my review, I will say, the mystery had me second guessing my way through the book and, while I got one plot thread right, the main 'big bad' dodgy dealing didn't even enter my radar until it was almost the end!

As for Cooper and Oliver. OMG they are on fire with their strange mini-pack dynamics but also with how much Coop is opening up.

Their relationship is tested to the max in this book, but I love how there is never any doubts in their love for each other. I was 'awwwing' all the way through!

They're also just as insanely hot together, burning up the sheets as well as the public showers and an office and never not directly related to the narrative.

Sex isn't thrown in randomly, it always drives off something which is happening in the main investigation which prompts a declaration of love or some horniness 😁

Book five is coming next year!

One of the things that I keep loving about this series is its different take on the shifter genre. It was a little frustrating in the first books because of the lack of actual shifting and most of what usually comes in shifter stories, but it’s also refreshing and more nuanced, especially the more the series progresses.
As a result, the dynamic between Cooper and Oliver doesn’t follow the “usual” human-wolf pattern and the worldbuilding keeps me on my toes, I never know what to expect next, but I’m enjoying going along with the characters for the ride.
I liked the mystery of this book, I had some vague ideas that ended up having something in common with the resolution, but it wasn’t anything specific enough that I wasn’t surprised when everything was explained and the culprit revealed.
The strongest point of the book (and the series, imo) is in the MCs and their relationship. Cooper and Oliver have the perfect balance of sweetness and humor, doubts and confidence. There were a lot of swoon-worthy moments in this book and nothing saccharine about them. On the contrary, it was the perfect brand of sweetness for me, I often found myself melting one moment and laughing the next one, sometimes even at the same time.
Once again, this series confirmed itself as a very pleasant reading experience, made even better by sharing it with my buddy readers Moony, Shile and Teal. I hope we’ll get to repeat it soon with the fifth book. :)

What a fabulous story idea this was. *lol I mean, first send a reluctant Coop and an excited Park out house hunting and then send them undercover to a week-long retreat for couples’ counseling pretending to be a couple in need of assistance with their relationship. *lmao

At his core, he wanted to be his own wildest dreams come true. […] He was going to ask Park to marry him.

And on top of that, throw in the mystery of wether or not Cooper was turning into a werewolf himself after he’d gotten rescued and accidentally bitten by a wolf and with him now feeling different and kinda… off. Well that certainly had me on the edge of my seat.

And even though Park denied the possibility of that happening, the suspicion lingered!!

Anyway… I must say that this installment left me very confused so I hope the last book’s going to shed some light on it.

Other than that, Coop really needs to work on his romantic skills.

“Your turn. What were you going to say?”
“Oh.” Cooper blinked. […] “Nothing much, I just want to get married.”
“But...why?” Park stuttered.
“Oh, the usual reasons,” Cooper said. “Insurance benefits, uninhibited access to your wealth in case a mad scientist ever turns you into a regular wolf-wolf and I need to buy us a secret estate, tax deductions, you’re the absolute love of my life, visitation rights, et cetera.”

Like seriously! *lmao

“You make the bad bearable and the best better, and there’s nothing good in life that I don’t want to try without you. So, would you maybe want to try out marriage with me?”

Well, that’s better. ♡

What’s also better was Erik Bloomquist’s performance narrating the audio. Significantly better.

I don't know how Adhara makes each successive book in this series better than last, but she does. This is book four in the Big Bad Wolf series which should be read in order. *This review may contain spoilers for the previous books.*

I was immediately drawn in to the story. There are so many reasons Cooper and Park don't work as a couple yet their attraction and attachment is undeniable. Watching them attack each hurdle in their relationship is fascinating. They are so clumsily cute in their relationship that my heart just warms watching them navigate it.

There is an intriguing murder mystery for our men to solve, yet what kept me on my toes were the nuggets of werewolf lore that were dropped like breadcrumbs for readers to follow.

Although I had a hard time keeping up with who all the different characters were, I was enthralled with the dynamic between Cooper and Park as well as learning more about the unique werewolf world presented in this series.

Oliver and Cooper have come a long way... I loved to see them together in this installment, talking openly and trusting each other.
The mystery felt (again) chaotic.. but maybe I just have to accept that my brain is not wired for criminal investigations.

Overall I had higher hopes for this series. I had anticipated to love at least some parts of it as much as I had loved parts of Klune's Green Creek series (-> Heartsong) but although I loved Cooper and Oliver's relationship and how they both (separately and as a couple) grew, all the other aspects of this series were much weaker.

I won't read the last book (for now) because I just don't feel like it.

Just finished this fourth in the series and amazingly enough they keep getting better and better! Here we find Park and Cooper going undercover to a couples retreat as a favour to their ex boss at BSI. The mystery unraveling at the retreat-far-away-in-the-woods is the best. I would strongly recommend this books to be read in order, wouldn't say they work as stand alones. Eric Bloomquist's narration was the best I've heard him. Haven't been a huge fan before but high points for this one.

After the rant I had with Thrown to the Wolves, I am happy to report that I am satisfied with this latest installment of Charlie Adhara's Big Bad Wolf series. The one thing that irritated the hell out of me in the previous book -- namely, the "failure to communicate" trope between two men -- is nicely addressed here.

Sure, MAYBE, it has something to do with Cooper and Park going undercover in a couple's counseling retreat, where they are bound to get therapy session and talk about feelings 😬. However, at the same time, both also talk outside of the session, even if it's still staccato-like. Because you know, men, so difficult to express what they feel, huh? But yes, they talk, and NOT only that ... Cooper learns things about himself, and I learn a lot about the two.

As for the investigation, it is also BETTER than the previous one where things are kept in secret behind the "family pack" stance. Cooper and Park work together nicely to uncover what happens with the missing wolf. There are some dead bodies appear, sinister people, wolf trying to challenge the Shepherd, and VERY HOT sex scenes thrown in between. GOOD times.

Nicely done, Ms. Adhara 👍🏼. I will be waiting patiently for book #5 now...

Reread October 2022

and loved it all over again! Stellar everything, and the humour is spot on!

I think Charlie Adhara has outdone herself with this one.

I wasn't sure what to expect from a 4th book, didn't even realize it was necessary until I was finished.
It's unbelievable how much Cooper has grown. Is this really the same guy who could never talk about anything emotion-related in book 1? Or who hated wolf-shifters?

The exploration of his insecurities, of the questions that niggle him non-stop (like if he ever can be enough for a guy like Oliver) are brilliantly explored and discussed. I loved the whole psychological aspect of this. And how Cooper and Oliver get closer and closer with each book.

And the setting and case really did it for me, too. (and that little red herring along the way was fabulous!) I loved all of it.

Excellent book and wonderful series!
Can't wait to see what the author is cooking up for the next one!

5/29/20 - Upping to 5 stars - Not sure why I rounded down in the first place. I LOVE this couple.

Another great book in this series. I continue to love seeing how much these 2 MC’s love each other and compliment each other. Vaguely this story involves Cooper and Oliver being asked to go undercover to investigate a missing wolf. The undercover assignment takes them to a couples counseling retreat and I enjoyed watching that play out. 😀

I seriously need to reread the other books. I was so anxious to start this one I didn’t take the time to do that. Knowing what I now know, I want to seriously study their previous interactions.

I definitely recommend this series.
