Long ago a glorious kingdom called Everheart was protected by a magical sword, the Everblade, a sword with the power to absorb dark magic. Until the witch Lorelei opens a chasm that swallows the castle and its guardian blade deep underground. In a final battle to save their kingdom, the mages of Everheart subdue Lorelei and imprison her in a tomb for eternity.

A new kingdom, Torea, emerges unaware of Everheart or its destroyer, and lives in peace, until the day Lorelei returns.

Weak from her imprisonment, Lorelei joins forces with Darren, a sorcerer lusting for power. When the two combine their magic and set out to conquer Torea, it falls to Darren’s younger brother, the swordsman Alek, to stop them.

With the help of a gallant knight, an old mage, and a battle-ready princess, Alek embarks on a dangerous quest in search of the lost city of Everheart, where the sword of incredible power is said to rest. The Everblade is Alek’s only hope in stopping the witch, and his own brother, from enslaving the world.

Another one of those books picked up to counter the plethora of classics on my virtual shelves. I debated on the 3 or 4 stars because it's in the middle, but closer to a 3 than 4 for me, so I went with 3. The plot is pretty well described in the summary, so I won't rehash it here. My main complaint with this book, two actually, is that the power structures were too fluid (magic is all-powerful then magic means nothing, I'm super-powerful but you can kill me, etc.) with no reason and that I never got attached to any of the characters. It was like watching a Saturday afternoon made-for-TV movie because I didn't want to go mow the lawn.

The premise of this book was good -- worlds in different realms/dimensions that are joined and the fulfilling of an ancient prophecy -- but it never came to fruition for me. The bad guy appeared as very magically powerful in the beginning, but then he's running from his brother with a plain sword. And then his whole point of "world domination" seems plainly within reach except that he keeps bothering with his brother and old teacher who are (at least at the beginning) powerless to stop him. And I just didn't get the whole point of the sorceress.

This isn't a bad book (editing was good, pace was good), but it just didn't live up to my expectations in terms of structure and characters. An easy read that works for passing time.

This jaunt into the fantasy realm of GM Browning was a thrill ride into a magical world. Swords, sorcery, and the struggle of good vs evil permeates this book and I found myself turning page after page in anticipation. If you’re looking for a magical place to escape and live among heroes then this is the book for you!

The story flowed extremely well and I found that I simply could not put this one down. On one hand, it's the classic tale of good versus evil. But it is so well written that you feel that you're in Torea.

The only thing I disliked about this book was the ending. One word. Cliffhanger. But I suppose that only leaves the door open for a sequel (which I will definitely be looking for in the future).

This was certainly worth the read!

I was very pleased with this story. A solidly written fantasy that didn't drown under so much detail but focused on the story. A very nice treat!

Everblade has everything a High Fantasy should have my Gentle Readers. Swords and sorcery, betrayal and love. Alek and his lifelong mentor Oskar must stop Alek's brother Darren from unlocking the full power of the legendary Gateway of Realms.

Darren's first attempt to control this ancient and powerful magic dumps his brother and Oskar in a realm thought to be myth. As the duo seeks a way to get home and stop Darren's dark plot, they are swept up in the renewed war against an evil sorceress from the same myth of their home world.

To stop his brother and the evil sorceress, Alek must find a weapon of magical bane, the Everblade. This won't be as easy as simply stepping into an armory or vault and collecting the powerful weapon. That just won't do. Along the way there must be struggle and hardship.

Can Alek stop his brother before he enslaves countless worlds with his growing mastery of the Gateway of Realms? Pick up "Everblade" to find out. You won't be disappointed.

A wise mage, a brave swordsman, a sorcerer and a witch. Kingdoms with names like Torea, Calmoren and Everheart. This well-written fantasy novel pulls you through a portal and into another realm on a quest for a legendary sword. There's plenty of adventure and dark magic, battles and bravery and deception. There's also humor, and an extremely charming scene where our lead man Alek teaches a fierce and beautiful warrioress some moves--on the dance floor.

The author is good at setting a scene and making you feel like you're there without being overly descriptive. The story flows well--it's definitely a quick read, and it's also pretty mild. There's no profanity, no gratuitous sex scenes, and the battle scenes aren't filled with pages of gore.

I was a little thrown off by the ending, but other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed EVERBLADE.
