Bev's on the hunt to understand her mysterious past, and that means a visit to her dear friend Merv. Merv doesn't have the answers, but takes her to the secret, underground town of Lower Pigsend, thriving with all the magical creatures seeking refuge after the war. Upon returning to the Weary Dragon, Bev is confronted by sentries from the underground town. They accuse her of stealing a magical talisman that protects the town and - even worse - have threatened to arrest Merv for building a tunnel to the surface.
Bev's on the case - but it's a juggle to keep the Weary Dragon running and sift through the possible culprits in Lower Pigsend. But the more she uncovers about the idyllic paradise, the more she begins to wonder what the real secrets the town is hiding.
Magic and Molemen is the cozy follow-up to Beasts and Baking, and is the fifth installment in the Weary Dragon Inn Cozy Fantasy Mystery series.
S. Usher Evans is an author, blogger, and witty banter aficionado. Born in Pensacola, Florida, she left the sleepy town behind for the fast-paced world of Washington, D.C.. There, she somehow landed jobs with BBC, Discovery Channel, and National Geographic Television before finally settling into a "real job" as an IT consultant. After a quarter life crisis at age 27, she decided consulting was for the birds and rekindled a childhood passion for writing novels. She sold everything she owned and moved back to Pensacola, where she currently resides with her two dogs, Zoe and Mr. Biscuit.
Another enjoyable fantasy cozy mystery read from the Weary Dragon Inn series. I really enjoyed Bev's sleuthing in this one, and the expanded worldbuilding for lower Pigsend and the magical creatures who have gone underground. Although I never would have guessed the cause of the mayhem in this story, I did find the explanation of the final twist a little trite. It just didn't seem believable to me and felt off because of it.
The characters are fun, and I'm a big fan of Biscuit, the magical sniffer dog who helps Bev in her explorations. Although the author still hasn't revealed much about Bev's backstory, since she's still suffering from retrograde amnesia, I do find the new hints provided in this book make it intriguing enough. I just hope there'll be a big reveal in the next book in the series, as I'm afraid, if the author drags it out even more, that I might lose interest.
All in all, this is proving to be an entertaining series and I'm certainly having fun with it.
I am back to the world of The Weary Dragon again. At least for this book. It was another good addition to the series where Bev has to solve another mystery. But this time she has to do so while investigating in a town not her own. So she has a harder time of it. This book seemed a little like a filler book between books what with Bev running between towns and also a look in to other magical creatures in this world. The solving of the mystery seemed a little anticlimactic but we are introduced to more characters and the overall mystery of who Bev is is addressed a little more. The next book is about the much awaited wedding between the Baker Allen and Vicky and I am looking forward to it.
I ran back to this series, finding Bev in a whole new mystery. She visits the hidden town of Lower Pigs end with her dear friend, the moleman Merv, only to be blamed for the magic talisman that protects them disappearing! What's an Innkeeper to do?
I adore this series. This book was interesting as it took place outside of the core setting of topside Pigsend, instead we visit the underground hidden magical Lower Pigsend. I really like the new characters, and the deeper dive into the way magic works in their realm. This did seem a bit filler-y, but gave us some advancement in the over arching plot of figuring out who Bev is.
I didn't particularly dislike anything in this book. Maybe the Lower Pigsend peacekeeper Nog's behavior, but it's understandable due to situation and his position.
2024 bk 31. The story of Bev, her town and her inn never fail to provide an amusing day's read for me. This one does not fail - but instead of her town of upper Pigstead, this is the town of Lower Pigstead - the underground, built in a cavern by magic, town of magical beings who escaped the Queen. When Bev visits with the Moleman to find answers for her amulet, she and Winston (Moleman) are accused of stealing the Lower town's Amulet that protects them from the Queen. Much consternation inssues - upper because Bev is not there managing her Inn, baking bread, and making supper, - lower because they don't want her there digging out their secrets. A very well done book.
I am so happy to be back in Pigsend with Bev, Merv and the rest of the gang! Magic and Molemen is the most fantastical installment of Weary Dragon Inn series yet and I loved every single page! Full of mystery, magical creatures, amazing world building, friendship, chaos and all the cozy vibes - this series is a must read!

The Weary Dragon Inn Cozy Fantasy Mystery series has quickly become one of my all time favorites and I cannot wait to see what will happen next!
*Warning - this series will have you craving rosemary bread! 🍞
Thank you so much S. Usher Evans for the gifted copy!
so happy we got to spend most of this book in lower pigsend, I've so been looking downward to it!
this book had some interesting moral questions regarding the treatment of Percival, by the end of the book everything was a little less cut and dry than in the other books.
looks like Bev is going to delve into her past, I'm figuring it will end with overthrowing her highness eventually but while I want that to happen for the sake of everyone in the land, I don't want it to have to happen for Bev.
I'm sure getting ahead of myself though, onto the next book to find out what shenanigans area afoot at Pigsends latest wedding!

Sush continues to make Bev’s adventures a delight to read ☺️ The introduction of Lower Pigsend adds even more depth to this intriguing town that has more to it than meets the eye of any of the average guest of the Weary Dragon Inn, & we even got more Merv! 💜 I also love that I’m kept guessing as to who or what is responsible in each of these books, without feeling like I’m being sent on a wild goose chase to something that has no bearing on the story. I’m excited to see where the next story takes us, Bev, & Biscuit! 💜
I was so excited to read the next instalment in the Weary Dragon Inn series and it did not disappoint! While it followed a similar format to the previous books, it was set in a new location, and didn't rely on things blowing up to move the plot forward, which I appreciated. I loved exploring Lower Pig's End with Bev and getting a glimpse of what this universe might have been like before magic was banned. I look forward to the next book in the series!
Wow, what an amazing new addition to the series! This one makes good on the mentions of a "Lower Pigsend" in the previous installment of the series. We get to visit this town of magical creatures and it's just as lovely and dysfunctional as Pigsend is!
I loved the addition of Percival, the wizard who is responsible for creating Lower Pigsend and keeping it safe from the evil Queen's soldiers. The slow drip of more and more magic in this world really makes it sparkle.
This one was so much fun! Some great new characters and an exciting world expansion as readers get to see where some of the magical folk are hiding out. The mystery around Bev’s past deepens and as a reader so did my attachment to Pigsend (both) and its residents. Can’t wait for the next installment.
This book takes us down to Lower Pigsend as Bev needs to clear the name of her moleman buddy, Merv. They go down to Lower Pigsend and we get to meet some more interesting characters that are living beneath Pigsend in order to escape the magi-phobia of the Queen. We get to meet the character of Lillie who is a fun and new character I enjoy.
Man, I love this series. Everytime she solves a case a new one takes its place. I really enjoyed the new location, and with it, the new people, along with plenty of old ones too. And who hasn't wanted more Merv?
This series just keeps getting better and better! Loving the expansion of the world, the new characters and the evolution of some we already know. Can't wait to see where Bev's adventures take her next.
more world building finally!!!!! i was getting a little impatient w bev’s backstory mystery in the last one but enough was revealed in this one to keep my appeased for now. did miss upper pigsend though. PJ IS MY FIRST BORN SON I LOVE HIM SO MUCH THATS MY CHILD
Bev is off to lower pigs end, where magical creatures roam as free as living in a cave can be. Still not sure how she figured out it was the baker's fault, but loved the story none the less. Still wanna more more about the Wizard though.

Bev is back and this time in Lower Pigstead in hopes of getting answers. Of course things are never that easy. I love being back and seeing what she is up to now.
