description

Flynn never expected to fall for the girl next door when we went to help his neighbors with a plumbing issue. But he did.
The problem? Maddie just ended a relationship and quit her job because her boss harassed her so she’s in a “swore-of-man” phase. She wants Flynn, but she had enough problems with man.
So if Flynn wants her, he has a fight on his hands to get her. Fortunately, he’s a man who loves a challenge.

Rating: 4 Stars.
Storyline: I started this book without any expectations, and I can gladly say that this was really good. Way better than I was expecting it to be. It was sweet, romantic, funny and steamy. I didn’t know Marie Harte, but after reading this, I intend to become fully acquainted with her books. So if you just ended an emotional and full on angst book, this is the perfect reading to cure that.
Writing Style: Third person. Dual POV. Heartwarming and engaging.
Character Development: Loved Flynn. He was hot, sweet, bordering on alpha-male and didn’t have any problem telling like it was. He was pretty great. Maddie… oh, Maddie. She was the single reason I didn’t gave this book 5 stars. She was annoying and completely annoying. If she had taken her head out of her ass sooner, it would have been amazing. I’m still undecided on how I feel about the girls… but loved the brothers and the nephew. They were awesome.
Steam: Hot.

3.5 Easy Stars

When Maddie Gardner's toad of a boss makes a pass at her, she decides to quit her job, arriving home to have a cathartic rant, what she doesn’t realise is that her friend/roommate Abbey is not the only one there, sexy, green-eyed Flynn McCauley is also there and he finds himself entranced by her fire/temper. Flynn McCauley never thought he'd fall for the girl next door, but when he goes over to fix a leaky sink and is witness to Maddie’s fiery temper well he’s a goner, initially he thinks all he wants is her in his bed, that soon changes, now if he could only persuade Maddie that they are more than just friends with benefits.

I do wish Maddie was a little more confident and less insecure, but overall, she was a nice main character.

Flynn’s cute little nephew was a nice addition to many scenes – he is one precocious and entertaining kid.

This book doesn’t have a lot of depth but it made for an enjoyable read in the second leg of my long train ride, and ensured that time zoomed by. I can see myself re-reading this at some point when I need something light and easy.

The book was a fun read. I liked Flynn much more than I liked Maddie. She was too harsh and I found that a little offputting. I understand hesitancy, but that girl made him work way too hard and she was lucky he stood for it. I liked that he was really into her and she refused to see that he was serious and stable about her.

I liked the side characters, Abby was cute. She too has her own issues about things, neurotic came to mind even before she admitted it. It was a cute book with a lot of heat. The wording was graphic and a surprised me a little bit. I guess that is how the twenty somethings and the thirty somethings talk now. I just didn't know it.
This was a Casablanca read so it stretched out over a month.

==>Friend Abby<==
“Sorry. You look a lot like someone I used to know.”
She nodded, no longer smiling. “Your brother’s wife. Your mother mentioned the resemblance. When Mike first saw me, he looked like he’d seen a ghost. I might have kept my distance because of that too.”

Abby had cute down to a science, and that resemblance to Lea which kind of freaked him out. But Maddie? She of the long legs, killer rack, and sultry face? Sultry, a word he’d never used to describe a woman. But damn, it fit. She wasn’t pretty or cute, but with full lips, that flush on her cheeks, and those direct, man-hating eyes so dark they looked like never-ending night, the woman had a knockout punch he still hadn’t recovered from.

“Maddie can be a little dramatic, but she had cause.”

Flynn had a sudden image of the three roommates scrapping around in a ring throwing Jell-O at one another, Maddie leading the match, and hustled back to his brother to yell at him.

==>ex boyfriend<==
It was all fine and dandy for him to ask her to cancel her plans for one of his benefit dinners or a call he had to make to a hospital, or to rearrange her life to suit his profession. But God forbid she cancel a date because she needed to confer with a client. She wouldn’t compare interior design to medicine, but her career meant something to her, even if she wasn’t saving lives. Or treating athlete’s foot, she thought nastily.

==>HFN<==
“Madison Gardner,” Flynn boomed. “Will you do me the great honor”—he took something from his pocket—“the incredibly important role, of becoming my…”
Everyone stopped breathing.
“Girlfriend?” He opened his palm and on it sat two dazzling emerald earrings. “Will you, my sweet, wear these earbobs as a token of my extreme affection?”

4 – Flynn McCauley – Stars!

I gave this one four stars because I really liked the H, Flynn. He was a great H, he was thoughtful, kind, affectionate, not to mention sexy as hell and I loved the way the author wrote him. I’m a sucker for role reversal in a romance. Usually the guy is the one dragging his feet and is an expert at denying what’s staring him in the face. So I loved that Flynn falls fast into lust with Maddie but he doesn’t beat around the bush when he realizes that he really likes her. Their relationship starts off mutually, as a casual friends with benefits deal, but Flynn becomes the aggressor when he realizes that he wants more from Maddie. He treats her with consideration, respect and genuinely likes her.

That said, I wasn’t sold 100% on the idea of a HEA with Maddie as Flynn’s one and only.
Maddie had way too many issues she had to deal with before I could believe she was emotionally ready for a relationship. Don’t get me wrong, when Maddie was happy she was the nicest, funniest girl around, but as soon as she started panicking or feeling too much she would become this crazy cold hearted irrational human being!

Maybe it’s just my mood but I found her to be very immature. I get the author was trying to show us that Maddie was as flawed as the rest of us, but I needed to see that vulnerable side that would make me more sympathetic and forgiving of her actions and that never happened. Maddie came off as too selfish. Again it’s probably my mood but her good did not outweigh her bad. Flynn was just too awesome and she totally underappreciated him. In the end (cuz it’s a romance after all!) she does get her head out of her ass long enough to give Flynn his happy ending, so I was happy for him.

The McCauley family reminded me of Lori Foster’s Buckhorn series – I love the way she writes these awesome characters with deep family ties – and this author really nailed that. Sadly a pet peeve of mine is a dead spouse/lover and although I liked Brody and Abby – I don’t like the constant reminder of how she looks just like Mike’s (oldest McCauley brother) dead wife. Who apparently was a saint and everyone loved her – including Brody (and NOT in a brotherly way!) Then there’s Cam and Vanessa – I didn’t like her and am not really interested in their story at all. Mike gets his story too and from what I’ve read in book one and based on other GR reviews – I don’t think he will ever get over the ghost of his wife. I feel equal parts pissed and sad for his poor h – who settles for a guy who is still hung up on a ghost.

So I never say never (or try too anyways) but I don’t see myself finishing up this series. I really loved the writing, if it wasn’t for that pet peeve of mine, I probably would have continued but maybe her next series will be more my thing. On to the next one.

Safety: Yes
Explicit sex: OMG yes! 5 Stars on the Smutty scale!!

2 ½-3 stars – Contemporary Romance

This was just okay for me. The sex scenes are frequent and smokin’ hot with lots of yowza dirty talk, but that’s the only real connection I felt between the H/h. And the heroine was annoying. I liked the secondary characters though, and I’m especially interested to read Mike’s story, What to Do with a Bad Boy.

OK.... this is not a enjoyable read. I thought its going to be funny, light and flirty. But I got boring, cold and lack of depth. The terms for woman body part is... not alluring. It turns my sense cold. I can not relate to both of main characters. They are very 1 dimensional. The insta love is un realistic.

~~4.5-FLYNN HEARTS~~

ARC provided by publisher via Netgalley in exchange or a honest review

The Troublemaker Next Door (The McCauley Brothers, #1) by Marie Harte

The Troublemaker Next Door by Marie Harte was a great, easy, panty dropping sexy read. I can't wait to read the other books in this series.

The McCauley brothers - Mike, Flynn, Cam, & Brody.
Welcome to the rough-and-tumble McCauley family, a tight-knit band of four bachelor brothers who works hard, drinks beer, and relentlessly teases each other. When three independent women move in next door, all hell breaks loose.

When Maddie Gardner's boss makes a pass at her, she decides to quit her job-and men. But when sexy, green-eyed Flynn McCauley steps into her life, she's not sure she can stay away, especially since his brother lives right next door...

Flynn McCauley never thought he'd be so cliché as to fall for the girl next door. But when he's called over to fix a leaky sink, he encounters the fiery Maddie, and he's a goner. Too bad she seems to want nothing to do with him.

I love the banter between Flynn & Maddie. Flynn is a plumber and who'd a THUNK (LOL) a plumber could be nice & sexy. The way Flynn is described in this book, I think he could make any occupation look HOTT! I like that it wasn't a love at first sight kind of connection. Sometimes that puts me off when it's an instant love kind of book. I like the build-up and the storyline behind it. I like the tight knit relationship the McCauley brothers has.

Maddie did start irk me a little when she wouldn't let her "rules" go and just let the relationship build into something more than just "friends with benefits". I really like that Flynn was a man with a backbone and didn't just cave and give Maddie her way.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I felt content at the end of this installment and I can't wait to read Brody & Abby's story next.

Maddie. Wow, this is a female lead who is just downright scary. She's exactly what I picture when I think of the romance book 'scary ex'. She's so incredibly insecure, its frightening. If I had to read 'we're just friends' one more time, I might have actually thrown up. She wants NO relationship, WE GET IT. Shit. But god forbid another woman EVEN LOOK at Flynn. How many times did she accuse him in a round about way of cheating on their NONRELATIONSHIP? Jeebus. I nearly didn't finish this book. Thankfully reading from Flynn's POV helped. He didn't suck. So there's that. I am curious to read about Abby though. Hopefully book 2 will be better than this one.

My review:

This is literally just what I was in the mood for!

In this story, we are introduced to Flynn who owns his own plumbing business with his "adopted" brother Brody. Flynn has two other brothers from the same momma - Mike and Cam. We are also introduced to Mike's 5 year old son, Colin. Too freaking cute! LOL Anyway, those are the boys. Being that their family is very close, they guys are always by Mike's house. Whether playing weekly poker, hanging out or watching little Colin. The setup is that Mike just rented out the house next door to three beautiful women. He wants his brothers - Brody and Flynn staying away from them as to not cause any drama LOL, but he ends up sending Flynn over there to fix a broken pipe. That's where he meets Abby, Vanessa and then his Fiery Redhead - Maddie. He is smitten with her RIGHT away. They don't have the most pleasant of meetings. It was actually pretty hilarious, but soon they embark on a "secret" friends with benefits relationship. Both characters have their own personal reasons why they THINK they don't want a legitimate relationship, but soon the lines blur and they are both starting to develop feelings for each other of the love variety. Flynn is the first one out of the two to realize he loves her and it is SO cute how he courts her and SLOWLY persuades her to do more "relationship type" things without her realizing it. But of course, something happens towards the end to make them have a blow up fight. It's not bad drama at all and let me tell you - it was ALL Maddie. So for once, I am 100% okay with the girl going after the guy because of the way she treated Flynn for the entire book, she deserved to be the one to grovel. Of course, Flynn doesn't matter her try very hard because - he loves his Fiery Redhead so much!!! ;)

I am very excited to move on to the next book in this series which will be Abby and Brody's book!!!

Flynn McCauley and his brothers are a one of a kind family filled with teasing, roughhousing, and loads of good times. So it’s really no wonder why he’s known for causing mischief around town. Flynn possesses those dangerous good looks and with that killer charm, it’s only a matter of time before Maddie succumbs to him. But though I make it sound easy, it doesn’t go as smoothly as one may think.

Maddie has just quit her job after her sleazebag boss tried to make a move on her. In addition, she also recently broke up with her foot doctor boyfriend so the last thing Maddie wants to see when she gets home is another good-for-nothing man.

Flynn and Maddie have an instant chemistry and although it is lust based, Marie Harte doesn’t just throw them into bed together and just let them got at it. She infuses the book with a lot of charming moments, moments that build on the romance and sexual tension so that by the time Flynn is saying those dirty words, you’re absolutely DYING for them to be together. It’s no surprise here that there’s a lot of sex. Neither are ready for commitment, but they are both in for surprise when their no-strings-attached relationship turns into something far more precious.

While all the books are very, VERY hot, I think this one might actually be the hottest of the series. Harte doesn’t hold back at all. It’s downright filthy in some scenes and I wouldn’t have changed a thing.

Here’s scene that I randomly pulled up. It’s not even the hottest scene of the book so I think the quote can speak for itself:

“Flynn. Flynn.” She shattered, coming all over his lips and tongue as her pleasure took her over. In a daze, she moved where he positioned her, bent over the back of the couch while he hurried to shove a condom over himself.

“Now feel it while I fuck you.” He rammed himself inside her, sliding right through the slick, tight passage. “You’re pussy is so hot, baby. So fucking perfect.”

Do yourself a favor and read this series. It’s got the charm, the humor and the passion that I adore in my romances.

It's what the title tells you. 3 women move in together and next door are some hunks ;) But which one is the trouble maker, Flynn or Maddie? Honestly both are in ways, and that makes it fun.

Maddie is busy with her job, she got some relationship issues, but this is a romance so she will get over it.

Flynn is just hot blue collar, hot, I said hot already, yes hot.

They meet, he wants her, she wants it casual, we know they will fall for each other bit there is a road there to take. And that road is paved with hot smokin' passion. These two get it on and talk dirty.

Passion, lots of smexy times and two people that should be together.

Oh and I think I will like the next couple too.

An enjoyable read.

Maddie is having a bad week and the last things she wants/needs is a new man in her life. Enter Flynn McCauley, who is taken with her red hair and her fiery temper.

Maddie and Flynn start as friends with benefits and their relationship grows strong. Maddie worked all her life for everything she has and things around her are stressing her out. Flynn is her rock, until her ex walks back into the picture. Maddie become unhinged, Flynn knows what he wants but is not sure how to go from friends to lover.

All the characters is this book are a lot of fun and now I'm excited to read the next book about Brogan and Abby.

This was a cute story, typical stupidity with the lack of communication...and had a slower start.

Side note: I've noticed the first book in any series tends to be a little jarring while I calibrate to that author's universe. Sort of like Martin Short's character in the movie "Innerspace"...it's a bit like that, shrinking down to enter another world.

Sometimes, it's a smooth transition with barely any notice as to the difference between reality and the book. Sometimes it's a little while as I adjust. Maybe that's because I tend to have more than 1 book going at a time. BTW-that's only a problem if the lead characters share a name. This happened recently where both the Kindle book and my audiobook had lead females named Louise. Who knew that was such a popular name?

But I digress. This book is the lead off for what is currently seeming to be a trilogy but I could see it going for more than 3 books.

Both main characters have had issues in the past...but really, who hasn't, right? The plot wasn't bad and didn't blaze new ground or anything. No tropes were busted. This is purely brain candy. Don't expect anything really groundbreaking.

What did annoy me:
The H seemed to only really see the h as a sex object...at first, but that continued throughout.

The h is supposed to be this hottie mchothot but thinks she's a troll or something. Insecurity is common, but sheesh, women aren't THAT bad...right?

Their lack of communication. Seriously...we have more ways to communicate than ever..so they're either oblivious to this or stuck in their own heads...no one reads anyone else's mind...so speak up already!! Stop being a whiny little bitch!! Wahhh! (STFU already! Get some REAL issues!)

Anyway...this wasn't too bad or difficult or anything. More typical & easy to get through.

Nothing earth-shattering, just a tame and easy read. I plan to get book 2, when I finish a few others.

Girl next door romances don't usually include a spitfire commitment-a-phobe man-hating redhead. In Troublemaker Next Door, Ms. Harte kicks off a new series, Nora Roberts style except with a lot more erotic heat. The McCauley Brothers series promises to be a very hawt read with delicious bad boys who love their momma. Flynn McCauley is the first to fall for a woman. He's no Momma's boy but he does mind her and she is a pretty cool mom. Flynn is a sexy plumber who's crack any woman would be happy to see. When he goes over to fix his brother's neighbor sink, he walks into a shit storm.

Maddie is an angry woman ready to kill any man in sight, especially her former boss. An altercation at work leaves her jobless and it doesn't stop there. With her life seemingly falling apart, the last thing she wants is a hunky man witnessing her breakdown.

Ms. Harte is always good at creating her characters. They are memorable and fun. The best part is, these people can easily be a friend we know. They are realistic with normal baggage, a good heart and some flaws. No one is perfect. When they meet their "one", despite a rocky start, it still all works out. The growth in the relationship between the main characters is what pulls a reader into her books over and over again. The erotic sex with kinky twists is what keeps a reader panting for more. Ms. Harte is hands down one of the best erotic sex scene writers I've ever read. Since I literally read hundreds of erotic books a year, this is saying a lot. I'm not sure what is about her sex scenes which makes me savour every lick, thrust and moan. She doesn't use any outlandish sex devices. Nor does she use complicated BDSM scenes. Instead, she takes two hot blooded characters filled with passion and translates it into the written word. Between the phone sex, closet sex and rough wrestling, I'm not sure which one aroused me more.

This story is more than just sex. The focus is on Maddie and Flynn's "not dating" and "not relationship" relationship. It's fun to turn it around and have the female completely phobic about having a relationship which could result in love. Some of the rules Maddie places on Flynn are just hilarious. Since I was similar to Maddie, I can understand why she demands some rather odd behaviours from Flynn. I never went to her crazy state but it wasn't that far off. Flynn is a saint to follow all her rules. The relationship conflict is believable and a bit painful to witness. Fortunately this is a romance with a happily ever after.

What is also lovely about this series is the secondary characters. It is clear each one of the brothers is going to have their own book. Each one of the brothers is different and charming in their way. They are different and distinct. I can't wait to read the next book which I hope is Brody's book. Even the secondary females in this book are distinctive. What I really liked about them is that none of them were "evil bitches". There is a closeness between the women with true friendship which is a plus. Character development wise, Ms. Harte always does a great job. A definitely 3.5 rating! This erotic romance is recommended for those who love a good plot, endearing characters and hawt sex.

Overall Opinion: This was a light, sexy read. I liked it, but some things bothered me enough for me not to love it. I really got tired of Maddie's need to downplay their relationship. She was admitting to herself that she was in love with her internal dialogue, but then she would rudely put Flynn in his place with a comment or action. It got old quickly. She was damaged from her upbringing and I get that, but when internally she feels one way and then acts or says something that contradicts it -- I just don't get it! Other than that (even though that was a major issue for me), it was pretty enjoyable. The ending was way too abrupt an there was nowhere near enough closure for me...so that also contributed to my lower rating.

Storyline: This was Maddie's and Flynn's story. They meet because of a leaking sink in Maddie's rental home. Flynn's parents own the home and his brother, Mike, does repairs if needed. One of Maddie's roommates call and Flynn volunteers to go over since he is a plumber. He meets Maddie's in the midst of a meltdown. She just quit her job because of a skeezy boss and broke up with her boyfriend on the same day. There is an instant attraction between the two. Flynn pursues her and they become friends and then cross the line into (exclusive) friends-with-benefits. After some sexy times, a career change, drama with insecurities and past hang-ups, a visit from an ex, a break-up, and some heavy make-up sex...the couple find their HFN.

POV: This was 3rd person narrative that focused on Maddie's and Flynn separately.

Overall Pace of Story: Ok. Slow at times where I skimmed, but not throughout the book.

H rating: 4 stars. Flynn. Sexy, alpha, sweet, considerate, loyal family man. I liked him, but felt like he should move on and find someone better at times.

h rating: 2 stars. Maddie. Like I mentioned in my "overall opinion" section -- she sent too many mixed signals and it became old and I felt like she didn't deserve Flynn's loyalty by the end.

Angst level: Low. Just stupid drama brought on by Maddie...no tissues needed.

Heat level: High. I personally wouldn't call this erotica because for me the story took a more primary roll than the sex, but there was a lot of it.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM:

Cheating:

Possible Triggers:

Closure: HFN at most. It had an epilogue (1 month later), but no major commitments made. Not enough closure for me! The epilogue seemed to be put in to set up the next book with the secondary characters in this one, Brody and Abby, and not so much for closure for the couple.

So. Okay. It was good, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't like "oh my god, amazing."

So the basic gist is Maddie (the main girl) swears off men, and then meets her extremely attractive neighbor Flynn. He is a nice guy? Womanizer? I dunno. It was hard to really get a read on him. Anyway, so obviously the hook up, but decide to just be friends with benefits. So you see where the plot is going...

I think I just wasn't expecting that much sex. I mean those two were going at it ALL. THE. TIME. I also didn't like that Flynn was so sweet, but then when they were having sex he turned into this domineering alpha male. Like, fine that he's aggressive, but he's so sweet and funny when they AREN'T having sex... I liked his character much more outside of the bedroom.

Maddie was annoying as seems to be the standard in romance novels. She has a big ass and big boobs but a tiny waist... and flowing Thick red hair, but how could any man love a hideous beast.

.......

Plus her insecurities were off the charts. This was like daddy issues to the 100th power. She doesn't want help, she doesn't want to get attached, she can do it herself cuz she's a strong independent woman. Okay. But she was literally wallowing in self pity. Don't get me started on the last few chapters. I just wanted to shake her and say "Are you effing kidding me right now?!?!"

As far as side characters, the other brothers I like. I don't know if I want to read a book about Mike though, because his story seems sad.

I loved Abby. She was my favorite character. I want to read her story with Brody.

Vanessa's story I'm going to skip. Because she is a b I t c h. I hated her character because she is exactly the type of person I hate. Just mean for no reason. Constantly saying shit to hurt people's feelings or press their buttons.

Striptember has not been overly kind to me, I'm glad it's over.

Funny, hot, sexy and frustrating. This book was pretty awesome, I loved Flynn and his brothers but I REALLY loved Maddie's crazy crew.

There are more than a few frustrating moments when Maddie is off on one of her "we're not dating" tangents but honestly without her myopic view of relationships in the beginning we wouldn't see her grow. Having said that, her fits of fury are Hi-larious. Flynn is damn near a saint to put up with her sometimes, and I was really surprised that the confirmed bachelor only had a few oh-shit-this-is-a-relationship moments.

Honestly though, it's the whole cast and crew that make this book; Maggie's roomies and Flynn's family...OMG you just have to experience the whole enchilada.

Buy it, you won't regret it...and like me you'll be panting for the next one!

It has been years since I read this author, so I really didn't remember how she wrote or if I would enjoy it, so I went into this book with a clean slate. I was actually pleasantly surprised by it!

Flynn and Maddie were such a great couple and I loved how we got to see their love blossom over just a few short weeks. They were witty and funny, but also came across as very down to earth and realistic as well.

Maddie's hangups about relationships got annoying at times, and detracted from my enjoyment of the story overall, but not enough to truly hate the book. My only other complaint is that we really don't know what happened to Maddie's former boss, and I would have enjoyed having that knowledge.

All things said and done, this was an interesting and steamy read that I really enjoyed. I'm looking forward to other books in the series!

This was a cute, easy, somewhat fluffy read.

The beginning was great, but once I got further into the book, I was losing interest quickly.

I didn't really understand heroines reasonings for how she was the way she was. It was explained but ... Meh.

The hero and his family were great. I wish he was a bit more alpha. The store was cute but lacked it ... Whatever that is... To stand out from all the other contemp romances out there.

That said, I still enjoyed it. I will not be chomping at the bit to get the next books in the series BUT I will continue with it. I am very interested in Cam an Brody's story as well.

3.5 stars, too much of a struggle to accept love but it worked out in the end.
As I read this series of books (no cliffies) I like them more and more. I thought Maddie was pretty confused but Flynn more than made up for her, although why anyone would enter a pact like this is beyond me. I just believed that they were somehow the least self-aware people in their late 20s that were possible and went with it. Normally a heroine like this would annoy me no end but somehow I was curious enough to see the book through to the end.

Maddie really rubbed me wrong in this book. She's whiny and has lots of issues, and I ran out of patience with her about 20% of the way through the book. She pushed Flynn away so many times, I wondered why there is even a book about her relationship-phobic ass.

Vanessa is Maddie’s cousin and added much needed humour and animation to the story. Vanessa is highly intelligent with a low threshold for foolish questions and stupid people. Hell, she barely tolerated Maddie, and they were cousins. She’s blunt, forceful and doesn’t shy away from speaking her mind, whether or not it’s welcome. Honestly, she commands attention and it is refreshing. No need to imagine her thoughts, she tells you. She is the best part of the book.

Flynn and Maddie express their attraction for one another through a sexual connection, as feelings develop, their benefits arrangement isn’t enough for him.
We grow bolder as we age, with self-assurance, yet outwardly Maddie is self-controlled, but inside she’s a mass of nerves.

Descriptions of Vanessa:::

“If you or teacher-creature needs me,”

“Vanessa. She’s like Hitler with a mop.”

Vanessa to Maddie:::
“So, Skankerella sneaks home.”
“Vanessa.” Abby quirked a smile. “Although I like Skankerella. Mind if I use that in my next book?”

“Maddie?” His low voice made her belly flutter.
“Yeah?”
“I was thinking—”
Two sets of large hands tore him away from her.
“Stop flirting with the pretty girl and get your a*s in the game,” Mike ordered from one side of him.
Brody winked at her from the other. “Sorry, Maddie. I know how this one can get to chatting, and he just monopolizes time.”
“Like a parasite,” Cam added from behind them.
They ignored Flynn’s muttered cursing, which died the moment his mother approached.
“For God’s sake, Flynn. Let the girl eat. She’s too thin as it is.”

After Maddie and Flynn slept together Vanessa decides to research Flynn.
“From everything I saw today, he comes from a decent family with core values. He’s handsome, intelligent, and financially responsible—I think. I’ll know more after I’ve done some research on his personal finances.”
“Are you serious?”
“Look. Flynn might not know it, but when he decided to take up with Maddie, he got himself two self-appointed guardians. Or am I wrong, and you don’t care if he uses my cousin—our roommate—and smashes her heart into tiny pieces?”
“Do I even want to know how you’ll get that information about Flynn’s finances?”
“I’ll work it out of Cameron.”
“Their brother, Cameron?”

Fred, Maddie’s boss makes sexual advances forcing her to quit. Prior to that she had broken up with “Boring Ben” as Abby thought of him. Maddie seemed to studiously attach herself to unchallenging men, fearing she’d become her mother, loving the wrong man and facing the consequences. Her mother was an unwed, teenage mother.

Maddie dwells on the negatives rather than the positives in her life consumed with thoughts of failure. She does Flynn an enormous disservice and he makes her work to earn her way back into his good graces. He does what every woman should, get the one you want green with jealousy.

Filled with exemplary secondary characters, inner turmoil and the fragile navigating of relationships.

Each novel is a standalone, with shared bloodlines. They all reside in the same town in Seattle, many of whom are friends and family. Despite the characters from each book overlapping, they can be enjoyed independently.

Not the book for me. It has one of my peeves, which is having sex scenes that don't really fit the rest of the book. The heroine is annoying, the sex doesn't really make sense, the supporting characters will obviously have their own books, yadda yadda. The sex is supposed to be pretty hot and steamy, but there is a lot of sappy love talk which doesn't gel for me. I didn't take to any of the characters, especially not the female lead. And the epilogue leads into the next book by focusing on the secondary characters. Another peeve. Basically I'm peeved. Took forever to get through the last few chapters because I was bored.

NOTE: I was having a hard time with life while listening. Other people like this book more than I do. So if you don't have the same peeves as I do, it might be fine for you.

I was seriously considering putting down this book based on the grossly crude and disrespectful way the main character and his brothers speak about women behind their backs. Calling females a "good lay" or discussing their bodies in explicit detail with each other makes these brothers extremely skeevy and unlikeable.

I reached my breaking point and stopped reading this book when the author had a main character make a "short bus" joke. Jokes of that nature are never okay. Ever. And ESPECIALLY not said by a main character who we are supposed to want to find a HEA at some point in the series.

Writing "realistic" male relationships and dialog only includes these conversations when those men are disgusting and immature a**holes.
