I'm a mother of two, avid reader and newly published author. I've always aspired to publish my writings and finally stepped out to do it after surviving breast cancer. I hope you enjoy my current book and leave a review if you like it.
Ok so look, this book had me stressed. One, cause the author is new to me and I wasn’t sure if she was gonna drag me through the mud or let me be great. Two,because it was just stressful. Lol The ending legit has me wondering what would I choose. And I don’t know that Idris did the right thing. But when I say a compelling page turner, I mean that. Surely, hopefully there is more. The paranormal aspect is intriguing and interesting and leaves potential for the author to build a whole world of stories with different supernaturals, so I’m really excited to have found this author from the ABBA event.
Rene always brings the unexpected in her stories. Looking at this cover, you would not know that this is a Halloween themed paranormal romance laced with suspense and action.
Things kick off with our girl Genesis and her crew out celebrating her upcoming nuptials. Everything is love, the vibe is great, I was excited for the happy couple.
But then her man goes MIA leaving her at the alter all sad and mad.
Her man finally pops up "altered" as a new member of the blood sucking community. That entire story of how that happened, was both interesting and sus.
We get spice, a good vamp vs witch show down, and an unexpected ending.
Rene said she plans on putting together a full-length paranormal novel featuring the key players she's been slowing introducing which I'm really excited about because so far I've loved everything she's brought to the table.
I highly recommend this stand alone, spicy, and fun quick read.
I got more than I bargained for with this short story. I started reading books by this author because I liked her short story Ora and Kayland from the this ain’t love series. So I decided to read Her Holiday which I also liked. This is book 2 from that series and although the characters are connected this one was nothing like what I thought it would be. It’s was better.
I’ve never read where an author mixed their paranormal with their regular characters. Sure there are humans in paranormal stories but never immortals in regular stories. This was way more than I thought it would be. In 75 pages she told a complete story but left me wanting more.
I want to know if Tesh and Azura will stick around and get together will they become part of the crew. Will Geneva get a story, how will Idris explain never aging as his wife gets older. There is so much more this author can do with these characters and the way she wrote it I’m hoping to see more from them. Cause 75 pages just wasn’t enough.
This novella is a quick and easy read. Despite the story being quite short, the characters were well written. Genesis was a relatable protagonist, and I really liked her POV. The setting was kept relatively generic, which I didn’t mind as it made it easy to imagine it taking place on any island destination. The supernatural element was interesting, though I would have liked a little more background relating to it.
I didn’t love the ending. We weren’t given the motivation for the MMC’s choice at the end, so it made it difficult to decide how to feel. If others forced him into doing what he did to protect her, that’s one thing. But if he just made his choice on his own, then he’s a controlling jerk. And since it’s a novella, there wasn’t really enough time to be able to guess which motivation was more likely.
The book also does get pretty spicy, so keep that in mind. This supernatural romance novella was a fun read that I picked up at a local book fair.
My goodness, that was an exhilarating, riveting & certainly unexpected read 😬🤔😊‼️”Altered (The Holiday Series) is/was worth the read even when you’re skittish about unfamiliar & or taboo genres. Altered, was a creative well written piece of literary artistry for which expect the unexpected 👏🏿👏🏾👏🏽👏🏼🫣🤭🤩‼️
Genesis is finally at this milestone event in her life with Idris, but things take a turn for the worst. Idris’ life is changed forever by the selfish decision of someone random. Throughout this novella, we’re given a few twist and turn that make things exciting. Even through this is a short read, I wish we did get a follow up of Tash and Azura. I think the addition of new character really enhanced the over all flow of the story.

Idris and Genesis are about to get married when Idris disappears without a word. It's unbelievable to Genesis that he'd abandon her, break her heart. But what's more unbelievable is what actually happened to him.
This was a nice paranormal. I like the premise, and I like Idris fighting his way back to Genesis as hard as he could. It was an unexpected turn. I wish I could have known more of the lore, and the world building--and in some places it felt rushed. The ending was something I'm still not sure how I feel about it, lol. I think I may have wanted her to remember. But it was an okay story.
