The Saga of Bran and Rissa Continues

Their victory over the Imperial tyranny of United Energy and Transport complete, Bran Tregare and Rissa Kerguelen set out to aid the Shrakken aliens in their war against the telepathic killers called the Tsa. But on route to battle, the Tsa attacked, and Bran and Rissa's scoutship crashed on the wilderness world of Shaarbant.

Leaderless, their starship's crew fought the Tsa with an untested, time-twisting stardrive, while Bran, Rissa and their daughter Lisele faced an equally desperate struggle for survival on a perilous and primitive planet.

Helping their Alien friends, the Shrakken", Rissa and Bran travel to the world Shaarbant to out fit the Shrakken ships with faster than light drive and to help them in the war with the "Tsa". They take their scout ship to meet with the Shrakken but on the way back to their space ship, the "Inconnu Deux", the Tsa attack again. The scout ship is stranded and the Inconnu Deux takes off hoping to return. The characters grow as the tale evolves.

This is a sequel to Star Rebel. It does not disappoint. There are some battles, exploration, raw survival situations, some romance, and even some diplomacy. Most loose ends are tied up yet the situations are left open just enough to allow for subsequent stories. I had a hard time putting this book down. This book will be another of my re-reads.

This book felt more tedious than the previous ones in the series, so only three stars. Also, it felt very contrived in that two separate groups managed to just meet up on the critical day after a several-year separation. The author's thumb was very heavy on these particular scales. Still, mostly enjoyed it.

Rissa and Tregare have a "debt" to pay, and have to leave and go help the aliens who once helped them overthrow the evil controllers of Earth and her new planetary territories.

I can't remember if this was a reread. First time through the series was some time ago. I read it and it reset the scene for the aliens in this series. So it's it's not a reread, yay.

A coming-of-age book featuring the daughter of Bran and Rissa, the main protagonists of her earlier series. I really like the meeting with a new and totally different species.
