I was born in an 'old' English county called Middlesex. You won't find it on any modern map - it's been swallowed up by Greater London and at the swish of a bureaucratic pen it disappeared. Nevertheless, I had a perfectly happy childhood there with two parents who love me and a younger brother I still like! Painfully shy, books were my passion and my first career ambition was to be an author -- mainly, I think, because I didn't fancy leaving home.

Everyone seems to have one teacher who's inspired them more than any other. I met mine when I was thirteen and his name was Frank Richards, our drama teacher. He introduced me to theatre and at fourteen I walked on stage for the first time in a play he'd written. It was the beginning of a new passion.

After a three-year classical theatre training at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London, I started my career in professional theatre under my Equity name of Jessica Dean.

In 1991 I married my husband and we decided to start our family. I must have harboured some kind of daft idea that I would have a baby, put it in a papoose and carry on pretty much as before. Not surprisingly it didn't quite work out that way. I hadn't realised quite how powerful mother-love is. I had five children in six years, working only very briefly during this time.

I'm blessed with an easy, happy marriage and five great children, but when illness touched our lives I started to reassess my future. It was the start of my writing career. My second submission to Mills & Boon was accepted in December 2003.

I now live in Bedfordshire with my husband and my children. I love antique fairs, collect kitchenalia, paint in watercolour, and am a signer for the deaf (BSL). My house is in a constant state of disarray but I make great cakes, write books and no one seems to mind.

LOVED this book! Has followed Natasha for many years and could not wait to read Excessively Obsessed.

The book is a perfect mix between mindset (how to conceive of an idea, biz mindset, burnout) and tactics (how to actually get started, excel and grow).

It’s more of a roadmap (as Natasha calls it herself) where she gives the big picture and leaves it up to you to explore further those parts that seem more relevant or interesting.

She’s so smart and compassionate, and she really is a hustler!

Why are there not more books like this?!

Good book for a “pre launch” into business. Important lessons but not as detailed for the interim as I would’ve preferred.

QUEEN Natasha! I’ve been following her since I was probably 14 (10 years ago) she is such an icon and an inspiration. This book helped me tap into the power of my authenticity and inner boss babe. A TRUE GEM

First business book I thoroughly enjoyed. Why? Because it’s honest, straightforward, actionable and backed with real-life experience. And it’s not unnecessarily long, it’s perfect. I might be biased since I shared many of Natatsha’s entrepreneurship values and opinions such as preferring bootstrap to investors, but this is a book that lays out the ins and outs of running a business, the good and the bad. If you have an amazing idea but no formal background in business/business education (you won’t need it to run a successful business) you’ll probably love this book.

I listened to this via blinkist (book summary) so it may have lost some of the quality in the abridging process, but I haven't seen that happen from other books I have read.

I felt this was an ok book about starting a business, with some moderately good good advice but I can think of some that I have valued much more (Business Energy is a rare book that is probably the best I have found in the category of inspiring new business owners).

I also was hoping for a book about how to inspire or get yourself to become obsessed about goals or something similar.

Medium book on business. I would not read it again

Listened on Blinkist at 2x speed 17 mins.

I've been following Ms. Oakley and her bathing suit business on Instagram for years so I was excited to read this book.

I enjoyed her personal anecdotes and going behind-the-scenes of her multiple ventures. A lot of the book felt like a very basic business school report though and was tedious at times. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who already has a business background because it doesn't share anything new or revolutionary.

Great read and insight into the world of entrepreneurism. I love that Tash doesn't sugar coat it- you REALLY get a good sense into what you would be getting into. The real life examples are well thought out, the categories are so helpful and can apply to any business pursuit. I was also fortunate enough to see her on the book tour- and she was super down to earth, really smart and quick on her feet. Even more impressed! Get this book!

quick & informative! Personally I loved listening to the audiobook - Tasha’s delivery felt more accessible to me (30f) than most business-related books. However, her life experiences are not relatable for the average person and the stories are told very diplomatically. This books works well for aspiration, not inspiration 😅

I’ve followed Tash for years, and I was excited to see she wrote a book. I listened to this on Audible, which she narrates, so I highly recommend that. This is a good book for a business-minded girlie, the creator girlie, or anyone really who looks up to business owners.

Would give 3.5⭐️ Very detailed advice if you are interested in starting your own business. The chapters are tailored more towards retail businesses but a lot of the advice can be applicable for those who work in the corporate world in general. As a working woman, I really enjoyed Part 4.

Surprisingly good! It does kind of read like a book/study report with all of the references and facts sprinkled in from studies but overall her story is a good one. Great for those wanting to create a product and sell.

I enjoyed this, but was stuck at parts. She does a great job reading it, it just took me a bit longer as non-fiction.

I absolutely love and adore Tash Oakley and have been following her since her A Bikini A Day days. So I was excited to see she wrote a book! Although this wasn’t necessarily targeted to me because I am not starting a business, I felt like I did pull some things from this for my professional career. I just loved hearing her and Devon’s story as well. I have multiple friends I’d highly recommend this to who are wanting to start their own business!
