I have loved everyone of the Midlife in Aura Cove series by Blair Bryan. So it was no surprise that "In a Flash" book 5 in the series touched my heart in so many ways. Blair Bryan demonstrates her deep understanding of women's hearts in this story involving the passing of a legacy. "In a Flash" invoked memories of the grief felt with the passing of the older women in my family, which coincided with seeing a new generation of women in my line reach milestones in their lives. The bittersweet emotions I felt as the circle of life went on as planned are perfectly depicted in Blair's main character, Katie. Katie is so well-developed and relatable that she could easily be one of my best friends!
"In a Flash" is a wonderful story of female empowerment, which is the theme in every book in this series. As I read, I was again inspired to embrace my womanhood, to slow down and enjoy the sweet moments of being a mother, a sister, and a friend. I was reminded to live each day to its fullest. Like Katie, her coven and friends, I have learned the art of aging gracefully and accepting that, like a fine wine, the passage of time only serves to make me better!
Blair Bryan's creative imagination has brought me many moments of enjoyment, laughter, and tears of joy. Reading "In a Flash" as well as the rest of the series has allowed me to take respite from the troubles and sorrows life inevitably brings and lose myself in the alternate reality of Aura Cove! I look forward to the next book in the series.
Book #5. I feel the series continues to is deteriorate. Katie’s Karma assignment this time is for the principal of Aura Cove school. She is a victim of extortion due to being photographed as a young teen in compromising dress and situations. The light, breezy writing style conflicts greatly when a character uses sexual references and when the story veers to the ugly topics of society. Feels very disjointed. The witches quickly take their “revenge” and they move on to family drama. The flow of the story was off and lost interest in the finale, but will probably finish it as they are a quick read. For such sensitive topics, I don’t think they received the commitment to the devastation that they subject numerous people to and the aftermath.
if real life could be this, just we don’t all be ecstatically happy
This had a very difficult theme, but Drew much needed attention to the dangers of social media on our young people today. These are things I never had to face as a teenager. Several scenes had me laughing out loud. Frankie and Harry are absolutely joyful as a couple. I can’t wait to learn how Katie and Brody navigate their relationship.
