Pushing away from the H and he brings an OW to the party instead of the h. She is just a friend that has no family or friends, her name is Milana and she is a sweet girl in trouble. No feelings or anything at all between her and Colton. My problem is not her, it is that Colton invited her to the arty and not Bethany.
The H is a dolt and pushed Bethany away avoiding her for 5 years total (I can understand when she is 16 and waiting for her to turn 18, 19 even), but now she is 21. The Christmas party in the prologue, Bethany was hurt that he brought the OW (friend or not) and not her. Bethany drinking away accepts a dance and lets an OM play with her hair. H separates them and she gets mad, then kisses him and he calls it a mistake and sends her away. FOR A YEAR he avoids her and she thinks that he is with the OW (they were only study partners in school). He KNEW that she was heartbroken, what did he do? NOTHING, he let her stew in her heartbreak for a YEAR!!!
The excuse of why he avoided her? That if they get together,he is so OTT obsessed, he won't want to leave their bed and he needs to study and work. I HATE THAT TROPE!! That is the DUMBEST excuse! So instead, knowing she liked him for 5 years (mind you she is 21 and loved him since she was 16), he let the hurt in her fester for a LONG time, especially in the last year, to the point where Christmas makes her sad. She is no angel, she let that guy at the Christmas dance slow dance with her, she smiled at him and let him play with her hair, so her default way of getting back at Colter is flirting with other guys. I hate that.
He said after that kiss he quit med school because it would eat up his time and he wanted a change in career so he can never worry about money and spend as much time with her and their future babies. That is great and all, BUT YOU IGNORED HER FOR A YEAR!! YOU CALLED YOUR FIRST KISS A MISTAKE WITHOUT EXPLAINING IT TO HER!! YOU BROUGHT ANOTHER WOMAN INSTEAD OF HER TO THE CHRISTMAS PARTY!! SHE NEVER WANTED YOUR MONEY, SHE WANTED YOUR LOVE AND YOUR TIME! He knows all this, and thinks that once his life is sorted she will jump in his arms...in what world?? He broke her heart and her trust!
As for Milana, he said that he wanted to introduce them, so she can make friends, but didn't have the time....he and Beth were glaring at each other at that party, how hard is it to bring Milana and say, 'Bethany, this is my work study partner Milana, she knows no one in town, Milana, this is the love of my life, Bethany" How hard is that?? And Bethany, letting another guy flirt and dance with you doesn't make me root for you, she should have refused. What if Colter danced and let the girl run her hands through his hair?
Let me say, ignoring the girl you "love", by planning a life with the two of you in it, but not including her in discussion of your plans, and instead ignoring her and pushing her away, is a stupid move. He has a room full of her pictures because he stalks her. quote, " I have her photos in different frames around the room. Each one is from the past year, a snapshot stolen from when I couldn’t be with her." *heavy eye roll* So he has time to stalk her, take pictures and put pictures of her everywhere, but not spend that time with her, telling her he loves her, telling him her plans for them?
“Bethany, I’m sorry that I’ve kept you at a distance, but the risk of having you close meant unleashing this animal inside me. I’m serious when I say that my feelings aren’t to be taken lightly." *cough BULLSHIT cough* If this is a way to make us think he is an alpha that will fight for his woman, it was a fail. When they finally have sex, he keeps saying, if you need to back out, say it. He keeps saying it, that I got frustrated. When the sex scene makes you root for the h to push him off her and walk out, um, that is not a good sign. He did tell her she was his first, so points for that (dual virgin romances are always a plus, but ruining a good DV with bullshit is just a shame). The morning after, she calls her friend and is still not trusting Colton, which, I wouldn't either, fearing he will push her away again. That is not a good sign, she will always doubt him, even thought CM Steele tries to convince us that they are solid together. No, no they are not. There were too many years, with too much damage done.
Milana calls Colton, she is hunted down by her family who wants to take her back to her native country, and that is the reason Colton brought her to the Christmas party. Stupid reason, again, he could have invited Bethany as his date, and told her about Milana and they both could have looked out for her. They could have been good friends, but even though nothing ever happened between her and Colton, that full year of believing they were together is hard to just erase, and think everything is hunky dory. That jealous feeling is still there and I cannot blame Bethany for feeling that way.
Quote, "Earlier I didn’t like this woman, jealousy curled in my gut at the very thought or sight of her and yet, now I feel sorrow and regret for my behavior. Well, maybe only a little."
Milana and Seth have their story soon hopefully, and he is no Colton, Seth jumped at protecting Milana. She deserves a man that won't call her a mistake and push her away for years, but I think from how Seth is already staking his claim, I will like him A LOT better than Colton. I hope it's a DV because that is ALWAYS a good thing. The one thing that killed this story, is after he proposed and everything was supposed to be ok, at dinner he gets a text and when Bethany asks what it is, he says its work stuff, so sick of the secrets,she says, "I know you love me, so I’m hoping that you mean that and it’s not another woman.” Bethany will never trust Colter. I think their relationship is irreparable and it is such a shame.
This book was a mess, I did not like it and I do not recommend it.
So much time wasted, so much heartbreak, broken trust.
I am looking forward to Milana and Seth, I hope it's a DV but a good one this time, with a hero who will fight relentlessly for his woman and never push her away, but hold her close. *crossing fingers*

I’m sry I had to dnf this bc what the fuck
First off yes Ik it’s a novella but honestly it could have been way shorter and the turns it was taking THE FUCK none of it made any fucking sense I feel like I’m fucking high reading this not only was the Russian mob involved but than some college scum bag tried to rape her than kill them both the fuck this just kept making me more confused and I just couldn’t take it anymore.
The storyline was cute and had so much potential but there was way to much unnecessary stuff that was just not it.
No hate to the author this book just wasn’t for me 🫶🏻

I just thought there was too much packed into such a short story. I wish it were longer and more fleshed out. I wanted to see the h hold out a little longer and make the H work for her a little more.

Idk how I feel about this one. There was a bunch of errors in writing that confused me and I had to reread the page to try to understand it. Like at one point Beth is talking and without separating it from her talking he was talking. Another time they were going to get out of the truck to walk home but then they’re in the back seat?

Bethany has been in love with Colter since she was 16 years old. She always thought he wouldn't care or wouldn't see her like that. Boy was she wrong 😉. Colter always thought he had to make something out of himself to be good enough for her. He never was far away from her , she just didn't know. Sweet, steamy, romantic and safe (dual virgins - they waited for each other ) with a bit of miscommunication, a few misunderstandings but with an awesome HEA 😍😍😍

Colter is obsessed with Bethany so he ignores her, tells her their first kiss was a mistake, flaunts another woman in front of her, and is generally a real asshole know it all to her. Why? Because he wants to be a doctor and knows if he gives into his feelings for her he will not be able to leave her side after he has her. So he makes the decision to hurt her over and over again because he knows what’s best.
Bethany has loved Colter since she was 16, now she’s 21 and is having a hard time believing that he loves her when he tells her she’s his and he’s claiming her. I liked that she questioned his feelings for her, and challenged his claim of love. How can you love someone when you continually hurt them?
After seeing her dance with another man he tells her he dropped out of medical school and took an investment job and of course he’s killing it and making tons of money so he can give her everything she deserves. Except she never asked for money and materialistic things, she just wanted Colter’s love.
They finally get together and they are dual virgins!! At least he was smart enough not to be whoring around while “loving” her. The woman he was with is a friend and classmate who is being stalked by her Russian family who is forcing her to marry a bad man. So Colter bought her home with him to hide her and give her friendly people to be around. He never explains that to Bethany so she thinks the worst.
Bethany has another obsessed classmate who causes drama, he shoots Colter! He lives and they get their happily ever after. Epilogue ten years later with three kids and her wanting another baby.
Didn’t like Colter making decisions that effected both of them. He literally made a life for the two of them with a house and future plans, but failed to tell her. I would have liked for her to not forgive him so quickly, he needed to suffer more for thinking he knew best and hurting her so much.

hard to follow
While I enjoyed the storyline itself I have to admit that I found this book hard to follow at times. The transitions from POV were awkward and confusing because he would be talking but then it would say she and it felt like it jumped from one thing to the next randomly. Just didn’t do it for me.

So much miscommunication but he should of told her and let her decide for himself

I was so sad at first! Then things started coming together and it made me so happy that Colter and Beth were going to make it work. It’s a little bit of a crazy ride, but definitely a good one. A short, sweet and steamy holiday story.
