While checking into the fleet’s poor reception at Oak, Bob finds out the reason. The Emperor was busy with other things, and he needs Bob’s help to get them sorted out. Bob and the Gene ride to the rescue, only to find a whole new bunch of folks they need to understand.
I’m a house husband. I keep things together while my wonderful wife makes our living. I’ve worked as a machinist, short order cook, electronics assembly tech, and several other jobs. My hobbies include vehicle maintenance, (I’ve had the transmission out of my truck. Twice) free flight airplanes, electronics, and shooting. I was born and raised in the Ozarks, and now live in Mid-Missouri.
This series is one that when a new book is released I pause what I'm reading and start the latest book. This series is well paced filled with great dialogue and enough action to keep things moving. I enjoy the irreverent tone and fun. Quite the conundrum with meeting the new folks and dealing with the squirrels. Bob's ability to see around corners is amazing. Do yourself a favor and read the series.
The Squirrels discover a new space faring species and of course being the arrogant asses that they are end up in a fleet stand off that they ask BSR resolve. Things look tense but Bob Wins again.
Nikki and Bob number 41. Yes, this is the 41st book and I have read all of the previous volumes. If a new adventure shows up on my kindle list of possible books I might like, I will drop any other book that stands in the way of opening it up.
Nikki must be the archetype of a great wife; beautiful, incredibly intelligent, devoted mother, as well as captivating Bob's interest. She is Mary Ann versus Ginger, Betty versus Veronica. Bob knows she loves him and vice versa. Oh, she can almost beat a robot (Bot) piloting a spacecraft (saucer). She is even better than the women who love engineers that are stuck on the moon according to Dilbert... strong willed, but completely aligned with her husband in their shared purpose to care for those they love, and pretty much most of the rest of humanity and other alien races.
Bob is the guy who was listening when George Carlin told Bill and Ted to "be excellent to each other". It is hard to imagine a better Admiral of the Fleet, or dad. He hasn't got an ego that stands in his way. He negotiates peace instead of responding out of anger or fear. This creates respect from those that follow him, which drives them past their preconceived limits, actually creating miracles.
Would I rather "Beam Up" to the Enterprise or get a lift in a saucer to the BSR? To tell the truth, if I were unattached, it could be tempting to think of BSR (Bob's Saucer Repair), but like Bob, it isn't a good thing to be apart from those you love.
Both places have lots of miracles. You could call either option something out of a Baron Munchausen tale, but nowhere near the Richard Jackson tall tales by Ed Nelson. Those are fun, but unreal. Bob's stories are what reality should be, with warts and all. He deals with difficult people (aliens are people, too) in a way that inspires us all to do better.
Thanks to Jerry Boyd for a view of a better world. Yes, there are some weird things to get used to, like no chapters in his books, just stream of consciousness writing, but it definitely rewards you time in reading. Please don't stop, we are all addicted to the tales of Bob and Nikki and so many other interesting characters.
Is this “high art”? As Bob would say, “No way.” But while I enjoy hard sci fi, complicated science and compact writing that conveys hard concepts. I just enjoy the Boyd stories. They are easy, fun, uncomplicated but interesting at the same time. So much I read I think - wait, what about … because if the protagonist was so damn smart to get “into” the “issue” why the hell didn’t they think the issue all the way through? What have cutting edge science and technology and not take advantage of it. I suppose what I’m saying is that Boyd isn’t treating the reader as a fool. I appreciate that.
I really enjoy the county knowledge these books share. It is a wonderful combination of the Old Farmers Almanac and Will Rodgers. The constant involvement of the children and the dogs helps to keep it all comfortable. It isn't hard science fiction of scary fantasy. However, there is enough of the unknown science to make it feel as if we might someday be able to benefit from the medical and physical wonders presented here. Well done, Jerry Boyd. You do rock.
Once again, the BSR crew does not disappoint. Bob is still living the dream all of us his age have, riding through the stars, making new friends wherever he goes. He’s called in to meditate a dispute between the Squirrels and a new race, and approaches it in the typical Bob fashion. I’m looking forward to where Boyd takes these new aliens in the story, as they seem like fun.
I have been reading Sci-Fi for a long time, starting with Perry Rhodan and his band when I grew up in Germany. This is by far the best I have read since then. Funny, enlightening, short and sweet but at the same time very entertaining. My only wish would be that this series would continu, but I guess that all stories have to end sometime.
These are the adventures that capture our imagination and hearts. Once again Bob and Nikki meet new aliens and discover a culture/people that are willing to help each other rather than destroy. Jerry manages to make the everyday living interesting and realistic. Their world is full of decisions that will affect everyone around them. I like the transparency! I look forward to reading Bob and Nikki’s next adventure.
Squirrels, Monkeys, and Retiles what could be next....
A stand off at the far edge of squirrel space sends Bob and the crew of the Gene racing across the whole Squirrel Empire to try and avoid an all out war between the squirrels and the new group. Really enjoyed this one there is always a bit of a different pace to Bob & Nikki's adventures that keeps me hooked into their adventures!
This saga is reminder of the great stories that remind me of my childhood, reading Bob and Nikki story of family, love and growth. The reference to Jerries knowledge of historical events is great way to get the readers interested in the past while showing hope for the future
I really enjoy family type atmosphere portrayed in these books it,s like as normal as being on earth. I always look forward to these book that keeps the storyline proceeding like a real life adventure. This book does not disappoint in anyway. Keep bringing the story together.
41 books in, and I am still just as entertained as I was reading the 1st one. Mr.Boyd has never failed to please with his stories. I find them extremely entertaining, and full of a lot of something that is completely lacking in most other stories, and life in general, common sense and courtesy.
I'm almost 72 years old and this light-hearted series is in the top 5 of the best I've ever enjoyed reading! I actually put down whatever book I'm reading when he puts out the next book in the series and he puts them out fast. I'm retired and usually read at least 2 books a week and Bob and Nikki are always at the top of my reading list. Awesome job Jerry!
I only have things to say about this episode! Both have to with the aliens Bob, Nikki, and Friends met. The first is a question for the Author, who is suspect is somewhere near to my age (77): Why this particular species?? HOW did you imagine they went about creating their star ships?????
It was an enjoyable read. I had a couple of questions but they were just small stuff. I just kept reading. I receive this book yesterday afternoon. I slept all night. Finished just now. As always Mr. Boyd. You have us just waiting for the next one. Quite the Wordsmith. Thank you
Well that was a good addition to the universe. Can't wait to see how they influence the BSR, and if they can do an influence on the monkeys or force the tailless to re-talk to the tailed possibly even bring the Commonwealth into admitting that there are things in the universe that they are going to talk about.
great adventure! always a surprise with Bob and Nikki@
These books are always a fun read. I look forward to the next one and am never disappointed. Well written, great characters, and just lain fun to read. I’m always sad when it is over and i have to wait for the next book! Keep them coming, Jerry!
I highly recommend these books. It's been a great journey highly entertaining. Id say good 4 teen readers young adults mature teens that are young adults. They are just fun books. Jerry another home run. Ur going 4 a grand slam. Please proceed, I am anxious at waiting. Fan 4 sure. Thank u 4 ur talent.
Lots of build up to a meeting with some new critters in space. The real adventure is going to be in book 42, but getting to that means setting it up with this entire installment. Buckle up, there's a lot going on and you may even need to take some notes to keep it straight. It's well worth the time!
This series of books is an excellent and entertaining way to spend an evening reading. With lots of humor and an entertaining storyline it is fun to read. The only bad part is having to wait for the next book.
This book presents a new species, and newly designed ship for Gene and plenty of interactions with our long standing favorite characters. A bit of tension, the expected touches of humor and the anticipated storyline resolution at the end.
Continued fun reading. I love the characters and plots. This is just like watching a Saturday movie serial. Keep up the good work Jerry. I'm looking forward to the next chapter book.
Well, Bob is making new friends! Knowing Bob, the jump from "unknown" to "aliens" to "frenemies" is never a straight line, there's always some shooting (in the butt or any rear appendage) involved.
Ad I mentioned a book or 2 ago, bob is just done with people being stupid, and he has a fleet of ships to back him up! Love ALL the characters and stories
I love this wonderful quirky, fun and festive series. Jerry Boyd has created a universe and characters that make for a joyful read of fun and true sci-fi. Space ships, robots, aliens, romance and a fun dog what more can you ask for?
More fun from Bob and Nikki. The squirrels have found a new species, egg laying lizards. Natti joins Bob's updated ship and travels out to meet the lizards people, attempting to avoid a war.
I was waiting to see if Bob and crew would run into another alien species and sure enough they do. Typical Bob style story with a lot of redundancy but I grown good at skimming over the filler to keep my interest in the story :-)
I am continually astounded by Jerry Boyd’s ability to carry a plot forward with virtually only dialogue. It is an amazing technique I have never seen before and with him is very successful.
The adventure continues. Bob, Nikki, and the rest of the crew prepare to meet a new species. There is more than the usual emphasis on the children of the crew including Tom, Bob and Nikki’s baby. A great story.
