Heaven has many rules for angels to follow, but one comes above all others.
Angels and demons cannot fall in love.
Micah
I’ve been alive for millennia, and have yet to meet my fated mate. It’s not something I’ve ever cared about; my heart already belongs to another. Someone I can’t have. Someone who doesn’t want me.
Now I know we’ll never be together. Unlike me, he’s found his fated mates. Two of them.
That’s fine. As leader of the Seraphim, Heaven’s most elite unit of angels, I don’t have time for love.
Apparently fate has other ideas.
Meeting my mate on a battlefield outside Hell is surprising to say the least. When you add in his uncanny resemblance to the man who broke my heart, it’s safe to say I’m far from pleased.
The fact that he’s a demon, my natural born enemy, is just icing on the cake of this is never going to happen. It’s a good thing I haven’t been banking on meeting my mate and living happily ever after, because there’s no way it’s happening with Nox.
It’s not like Nox wants me either. He hates me with a ferocity I’ve come to expect from his kind. The two of us never being together is the only thing we can agree on.
Still, there’s a pull between us that neither of us can ignore, no matter how I wish we could. What starts out as hate sex, a way to try and burn off the intensity between us, quickly blossoms into something more. Something dangerous.
Something forbidden.
‘Conflicted’ is an exciting enemies to lovers, angel x demon, MM PNR romance. The first in the Hopeless Blessed series, each book will follow a different couple. All can be read as standalone titles.
Lark lives with her family in southern England. An obsessive romance fan, she loves nothing more than a Happily Ever After – especially if there’s a good plot and a hefty amount of spice along the way. When she’s not reading or writing, she can be found hiding from adult life in escape rooms, travel and the MCU. As a Bi woman with OCD, Lark is a fervent supporter of the LGBTQIA+ community and an advocate for mental health awareness and support.
Conflicted is an entertaining enemies-to-lovers forbidden romance between Micah and Nox. I loved getting this dynamic because of the many added complications of their being fated mates and how impossible it is given their roles in this world.
I also enjoyed the complicated backstory of Micah and his complex feelings towards Nox and processing his unrequited love for Dimetri. Overall, this highly emotional story expands upon the already greatly layered world while offering a new perspective that brings many strong emotional moments and gives such a strong romance to root for.
*** I reviewed a complimentary copy of this story.***
Another amazing book from Lark Taylor. I seriously couldn’t put it down. This was everything I wanted from Micah and Nox’s story, and so much more. Im obsessed with this world Lark has created, every book makes me laugh and cry. I’m already loving all of these angels and demons and I can’t wait to get all of their stories.
I never expected for anyone to be able to compete with Ferry and Leo but whew, Micah and Nox did. I know I’m not alone when I say that Patience is still my favorite story, but Micah and Nox are now one of my favorite couples.
If you love a “we can’t” story with a hopeless romantic that will deny it and a martyr that will do anything for him, this is for you.
We all know that Lark can write her ass off but this was so good and well worth the wait.
I’d say that you should read Dimitri’s book at least before this one but I don’t really think it matters (I didn’t 🫢). Lark wrote it as a complete standalone. The only reason I say to read Dimitri’s book is for a better understanding of the background behind him and Micah. Either way, read this.
I wanted so much more from them. This book is like 400 pages and I would have been just fine reading 600 😭🖤
Read it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but this is my honest and voluntary review!
Very close contender for my favourite Lark Taylor book, the only thing that bugged me was how it dragged after the showdown and resolution. I'd honestly have preferred it just went straight to the epilogue because it felt like a lot of waffle and didn't truly add anything to the story, and then I found myself skipping over the sex scenes just to get to the end of the book.
I absolutely loved the relationship between Micah and Nox. Enemies to lovers is one of my favourite tropes, throw in fated mates, possessiveness, secret relationships and that the relationship is forbidden between an archangel and a demon... perfect mix!
The cameos from The Reckless Damned and the Damned Connections series were also fun - I love Dagon's personality so much so it's always fun to see him, and Ferry is just perfect in my eyes 😂
I also loved the questioning of religion and the role that the angels were playing in the grand scheme of things. I'm a scientific minded atheist so this reflected my views really well and I think it raised some good points. Also Gloria needs to get her comeuppance, what a fucking bitch!
I'm very interested in getting Ez's story next because I do think his fiery personality will be very entertaining to see when he finds his mate. I'm also really intrigued by Quill and Noah too.

Nox is a demon who has finally escaped being under Lucifer's thumb and gotten topside. He made a deal with Lucifer's sons mates, to help them escape From Hell and in return they will get to leave hell and be under the protection of Lucifer's sons and their mates. He's always felt a pull to come up top side, and once he escapes from hell he meets Micah, an angel who is also involved in the battle and he realizes that the pull is a mating bond to Micah. Micah has been unrequitedly in love with his fellow archangel Dimitri for centuries / millennia. But Dimitri was never his, he was in love with someone else. Unfortunately, Demetri is basically a doppelganger of Nox, fueling resentment. Neither of them want to be mated to the other, they both reject the feeling and resent it. But they can't resist the pull.
After a while, they decide to try to satisfy the pull by giving in and being f*** buddies. They think that if they're having sex maybe it'll be satisfied and won't try so hard to pull them to each other. Maybe they can trick it. When they spend time together f******, they accidentally get to know each other a bit. And Nox stops the sex for a while because now that he understands a bit more, he doesn't want to be used as a stand-in for Dimitri. They still spend time together. And they get to know each other deeper than anyone else knows them. And respect and deeper feelings form. Micah is really committed to his role as a protector of his fellow angels, and they realize that heaven isn't on their side and they won't be allowed to be together. Things get really dark and hopeless for a while before they can figure out a way to be together.
This was a good book. The animosity between them made sense and they fought the good fight, it wasn't something easy that they gave into and then had an easy path for their relationship. So there was good tension to the story. It's funny how this author can do instant fated mates but not have it be insta love. They developed deep feelings and got really protective and self-sacrificing for the other. This really tugged at my heartstrings.
I'm not usually a person that likes OM drama and Micah was quite deep in his feelings for Dimitri... But it certainly changed everything that Nox was his fated mate, always intended to be him, and Dimitri ended up being the pale shadow of Nox and the resemblance to Nox was what drove the feelings for Dimitri.
I need heaven to have a reckoning. I hope by the end of this series there's a big shake up. Because heaven has things completely wrong. The amount of corruption, them not fighting for what's right, Angels being encouraged to let humans suffer and not intervene is just so wrong. I need some actual justice.
What does it say about me that the characters that I'm the most interested in seeing stories for are Benji and Quill? Curious to see where the other stories go in this series.
Some notable moments:
"Don’t touch him. Don’t touch him. My hands came down on his shoulders. Everything in me settled instantly, the chaotic yearning that had dogged me for centuries falling silent."
"But there was no denying that we could have passed for brothers. It made me hate Micah even more. Anything in him that wanted me was down to fate or the fact that I resembled the man who held his heart. My feelings on the matter were, quite frankly, ridiculous. It wasn’t as though I wanted Micah. I certainly didn’t fucking like him—just the opposite, in fact. So why did this knowledge make me want to break something?"
"“It’s disgusting how they treat women topside. Who gave cis straight white men the audacity to behave as they do? One of my favourite things to do in Hell was to tell the sexist fuckers that God is female. Their faces…” Quill gave a happy sigh. “It used to bring me so much joy.”"
This moment had me giggling... "Parked up on a road next to the compound, I whistled in time to “Hot to Go” while I waited. The crackle of flames around me added to the soundtrack, a delicious touch of irony that I hadn’t been able to resist."
Cute. "“We’re not strangers,” Lucky chimed in, waving his rapidly melting treat. “You saved me from Hell and bought me an ice cream. With two flakes. And sprinkles. You’re a hero in my book.” Dimitri frowned at Dagon. “He knows he can afford his own ice creams, right?” Dagon sighed."
*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.
**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
After centuries pining for the wrong man, Micah (leader of the Seraphim) meets his fated mate Nox.... a demon. Most supes would be thrilled to meet their mate but Micah knows he absolutely cannot be mated to a demon, especially one who looks so similar to the angel he's been mooning over for ages. To make life even more difficult, Micah and Nox loathe each other on sight due to longstanding misunderstandings and mistrust between angels and demons. So why would fate throw these two together? They have more in common than they think: they're each loyal to a fault, and are convinced they're unlovable and unworthy being chosen.
I really enjoyed Conflicted ... as always the writing and editing is superb with Lark Taylor books. There's the perfect amount of angst and hate sex, with a strong theme of learning to trust and finding your chosen family. Tropes include: forced proximity, enemies to lovers, pining, touch-him-and-die possessive MCs, forbidden love and found family. There are a few new characters introduced in the book and some super compelling set ups for the other books in the series.
Conflicted is book 1 in the Hopeless Blessed series. It can be read as a standalone but since it's a spin-off of the Reckless Damned series and there are characters who cross over and have cameos, I'd recommend starting at the beginning.
Rating: 5 stars Angst: 4/5 Steam: 4/5
I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
Did I drop absolutely everything to read this? Yes…and it was EVERYTHING.
Micah flies into hell with his unit of Archangels to, once again, come to Dimitri’s aid because he loves him. Seeing Dimitri happy with his mates breaks Micah, as no one ever chooses him. The last thing he expects is to find out who his fated mate is.
Nox has always had a pull for topside. After striking a deal with the human mates of the sons of Lucifer, he is finally about to go live amongst people. In his final moments in hell, he meets his mate…and both him and Micah swear that there is no way anything can happen between them. After all they’re sworn enemies and the love between a demon and an arch is forbidden.
Enemies to lovers is my favourite trope and I can’t even explain how well done this one was. The fine line between hate and love? The palpable tension? I was on the edge of my seat for the entirety of this book. You can feel every single emotion and then some.
Micah was never alone, but so lonely. He carried the burden of being a leader all on his own. Always selfless, always in control, without a moments reprieve. His love for his unit was endless, but came with a massive load of pain, as he thought he has to be strong one, even if it cost him his happiness. I wanted to wrap him up in a blanket and protect him at all costs.
Nox was absolutely put on this earth to be Micah’s safe space and it was so effing sweet. The little menace of a demon proved to be the most fierce partner. I am obsessed with him and his protectiveness of his mate, even though Micah’s powers were superior.😭And the way he was always able to read between the lines and figure Micah out so fast? Ughhh
Their connection was everything. Since the first time they saw each other, the pull was too strong to resist. Even as enemies they were doing things to protect one another and I couldn’t cope😭
In true Lark fashion, this book was absolutely gut wrenching and I expected nothing less. The difference being that this was caused by issues outside of the relationship.
My favourite book has been Patience…but my favourite couple is definitely Micah and Nox. They were a perfect match in every single way. I would die for them.
As always, the found family and the banter make for some of the best scenes. I can’t wait to know more about certain angels and certain demons and a certain Sam👀
2.25⭐️ "This isn’t about me not choosing you, it’s about me saving you.” “I don’t need saving, I need to be loved, damnit! Why is that so much to ask for?”
Lark Taylor needs to stop using the martyr plot to drag things out in her books. Is either they can't be together because one of them thinks they’re not good enough for the other, or that being together will put the other at risk, or they choose to sacrifice themselves so the other will be happy. She did it in:
╰•𝘑𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦 (𝘚𝘦𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘺’𝘴 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬)
╰•𝘋𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘋𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘭(𝘙𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘪’𝘴 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬)
╰•𝘛𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦(𝘉𝘭𝘢𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘛𝘰𝘣𝘺’𝘴 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬)
╰•𝘙𝘦𝘥 𝘏𝘢𝘻𝘦 (𝘑𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘈𝘳𝘭𝘰’𝘴 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬)
╰•And from what I’ve seen of 𝘏𝘶𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 (𝘋𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘙𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘺’𝘴 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬), she ALSO did it there.
i don’t care if i look like a complete idiot, rating this 5 stars and then complaining in the review.
i am glad lark did something different for a change, however we kind of already knew everything from the previous books. we actually found out like two new things. and some lines were very repetitive throughout the book.
while i love this series (and i even loved this book, even with these complaints), i genuinely think it’s time to distance ourselves from this world. at least for a little while.
So my couple hours to process turned into a couple days and here we are a week later, still obsessing over these boys!
Micah and Nox’s story has been in the back of my brain for so long, waiting for the day we’d get to witness how Lark was gonna turn our angel x demon enemies into the smooshiest of lovers, and she did not disappoint!! The forbidden aspects of this story were EVERYTHINGGGG. The secrecy. The longing. The sexual tension. Arghh I NEEDED this!
Alright quick recap (mainly for future me who’ll need to reread this before we get our next baby angels book); - Micah flies straight to hell with his squadron to assist Dimitri, the love of his life, in defeating Lucifer, D’s mate’s father … soz Micah? - Anywhoooo Micah says a bunch of shitty stuff and walks off in a huff ✨maturity✨ - A hop, skip and a jump later, he runs into a particularly delicious demon and BAM , he finds his true mate! Guess how that went … right?! Blatant fuck you to the universe cause archangels and demons are #1 enemies and #2 forbidden to be in a relationship 🤪 universe 1 : 0 Micah - Fast forward, Nox and pals says adios to hell and guten tag Earth ✌🏽 and Nox decides the best place to set up shop is in the same neighbour as our friendly neighbourhood archangel squadron Alright, great, we’re all caught up!
Now onto the juicy shizzzz
Our smol battle hardened leader, Micah, is really just a touch starved baby who needs all the snuggles and maybe a pet pitbull to fight his battles for him. He has the world on his shoulders and refuses to let anyone know or help … especially after Dimitri’s betrayal.
Nox is everything dark, devious and fucking hilarious. That man’s level of OBSESSION with Micah is unparalleled and 100% what we needed him to be. He was Micah’s shoulder to cry on, his escape from the real world and his saviour in the darkest hours.
This story had all the elements that make Lark’s writing so memorable. The angst, the plot, the emotion, the romance, the side characters (who we all want books for asap) and the found family we adore!
Definitely up there as one of my favourite couples in the ever expanding Larkverse 🖤🤍😇
H1 was in love with OM but OM found his fated mate and left. H2 (H1’s mate) looks very similar to OM which seems to be the only reason H1 wants to sleep with him. I just don’t find this hot personally.
Read in another buddy read with the always lovely Lilly ❤️
I really do love this world that this author has created, it's so fun.
Micah is an arch angel. Not just any arch angel, but one of the - if not the most - powerful arch angels. He is in charge of the Seraphim, basically the most important and strongest unit of God's "soldiers."
He has seemingly been in love with Dimitri for millennia, but he has his two mates, of course, and doesn't love Micah.
But on the day of the big battle in Hell from the fourth book, after it is over Micah meets his fated mate, Nox.
But there's one problem, only. Nox is a demon. They're both resistant at first, and once the demons are able to leave and live topside, they stay away from each other at first.
They can't believe they're fated mate is their sworn enemy, but also even if they did give in...angel and demon's being together is forbidden by heaven. They couldn't be together even if they wanted to.
There's a bit of push and pull between these two at first, but not for long. It was more like they couldn't believe they were each other's fated mates and fought the pull at first.
But soon, they can't. The lust, the attraction, is too big for them to ignore.
But things take a turning point when Nox sees Micah in a vulnerable moment, when Micah usually never wants or lets anyone see him vulnerable. He's a powerful arch angel, and the leader of the Seraphim....he shouldn't lean on anyone for support...right?
Well, maybe not with the rest of the group, but Nox isn't his subordinate, but his equal.
When that happens, they start to get to know each other over the following weeks, falling in love in the process.
Their chemistry is so so good. I'd say this was on par with my favorite in this world that Taylor has created, Sebastian and Matty's book.
It was just so good between Micah and Nox, and I was hooked from the beginning, this was such a page turner.
The climax was great too, with everyone coming together to help Micah and Nox get their HEA. It also started an overall arching plot through the rest of this particular series (and maybe more? Who knows) that could lead to a war with and amongst heaven. We already had a civil war in hell, so why not heaven now? Tensions are definitely brewing, and things definitely need to change in heaven too. It's really not different from hell at all, when you see how so many angels act and treat others.
I HIGHLY recommend this, especially if you've read the OG series, and the spin-off series before this one, Damned Connections. I think, timeline wise, it takes place around and after Ferry and Leo's book, so if you haven't read the other three couples from the Damned Connections, I think you're find to read this one first if you so choose.
But other books in both series should be read before this one or you'll be confused on several things at first. Better to know this world somewhat before diving into it.
Can't wait for the next book, which I'll bet is going to be about Ezekial, Micah's second, and Jeremiah, another high demon who is a friend of Nox's who came up top with him. If it's not them too I'll be beyond surprised. Everything is pointing to them being the next couple. But I guess we'll see if that's true.
Audiobook ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Dan Calley absolutely outdid himself with this... I've been looking forward to this book. I've been excited for it since Luck of the devil. It has exactly what I was looking for Angel and demon? Yesss, Enemies to lovers? yess, fated mates ? Yesss. We haven't got to do fated mates since Ferry and Leo and I was so excited. This was so good!!! And I'm super excited for the next book.
I also loved the questioning of the role of the angels in the grand scheme of things. Also Gloria go suck a dick 😒🖕 My absolute favorite part of this book is that mating doesn't solve all the problems. I honestly didn't have any idea how this was gonna end. I was like damn what're they going to do about this 🤧 Lark Taylor outdid herself with this. Oooh I almost forgot I was also super excited to see all our friends from previous books especially Harlow 😹 I love love that demon. He's my Twink Jesus 😂
“Fate might led us to each other, but it was you who captured my heart. ”
I’ve been looking forward to this book. I’ve been excited for it since Luck of the Devil. Angel and demon pairing? yesss. Enemies to lovers? yesssss. Fated mates? YESSSSSS. I was really excited for the fated mates bit. We haven’t got to do a fated mates pairing since Ferry and Leo. So I was mega excited. And she didn’t let me down at all!!! This was soooooooooo good!!! And now I am super excited for the rest of the books. It’s gonna be so good guys.
You know how the enemies to lovers bit goes. Add in the fact that Nox is a demon and Micah is an angel so we have the I hate you on sight thing because I was raised to hate you yeah yeah yeah. So we got that going. But with them being fated mates they have this extreme pull to each other that is just annoying. And what better way to get it under control than hate sex? Brilliant!! So yeah we got that and boy was it good. 10/10 really. Then they got to know each other obvi. We got to get to the lovers part of enemies to lovers. And it was really sweet. Micah and Nox both knocking down their walls and learning about each other was perfect. Micah is the most powerful angel in a millennia and Nox is like that’s my baby and I need to protect him. Absolutely sweet. I love that trope. No complaints at all about this.
My absolute favorite part of this book is mating doesn’t solve all the problems. Honest to god I had no idea how this was going to end. Usually I can predict but nada. I was like damn what’re they gonna do. It was great. She really outdone herself with this.
So so so so excited for this series. I’m excited to see all our friends from the previous books and excited to see what pairings she decides to do. This was such a win for me.
Conflicted is book one in the Hopeless Blessed series. This MM PNR romance story is about Micah and Nox.
Micah is an archangel and leader of the Seraphim. He carries the burden and responsibility all on his own, and it is heartbreaking to see what he goes through to protect his team. Micah has been in love with Dimitri and is always willing to jump to his aid. He barely can hold it together when he finds out that Dimitri not only has one mate, but two. Micah made a vow that he would never again risk feeling heartbreak. So when Micah meets Nox, he is refuses to acknowledge he is his fated mate.
Nox is a higher demon that is now able to live topside after making a deal with the mates of the sons of Lucifer. Nox and Micah might have been fated mates, but they both agreed that nothing could happen between them. They were natural born enemies, and it was forbidden for angels and demons to fall in love.
Although Micah and Nox can’t stand each other, they also can’t seem to stay away from one another. They tried to deny and fight the pull they both felt towards each other, and eventually they give in. What started out as hate sex quickly turns into something so much more.
I couldn’t get enough of Micah and Nox. Their chemistry and connection was amazing. I absolutely loved everything they did for each other. There were moments that had me choked up, and others that gave me chills. It was beautiful to see Micah and Nox’s love and how they were exactly what each other needed.
Micah and Nox had to fight to be together, and little did they know they weren’t going to have to fight alone. The found family is so amazing and I definitely enjoyed seeing characters from the previous series. I can’t wait to get more of these angels and demons in the future. This was an incredible start to a new series, and I cannot wait for more!
I received an advanced copy of this book, and this is my honest review.
Oh boy, this was a great book to start off this series with, and it took me through all of my feelings.
Firstly, the prologue had me irritated, but not because of our main guys. I just felt super bad for our Micah. I laughed out loud several times later on, and I even teared up in some chapters. Most of all I just really felt that hot tension between Micah and Nox.
They're so mean to each other at first, they each have an image as to how an angel and demon is supposed to be like, and it's nothing positive. Yet they can't help to be drawn to each other, they are fated mates after all, whether they like it or not. That's how their steamy encounters begin, and whew, they were some hella hot encounters.
But I was also swooning so hard. Once Nox discovers Micah's insecurities... oh, my heart ♥ But they're both a little insecure, because what is real and what is the bond?
AND THEN, when all of the action started, when Heaven wasn't as it seemed to be, when Nox avenged Micah with a little unaliving, when Micah's unit stood up for him in a way he never expected.. Teary eyes, couldn't help it.
“Who did this to you, little angel?”
All in all, a super good read, and I'm so excited for the next one. I have several characters I'm hoping will get their own book. Quill especially.

Angels and Demons are not allowed to be together, but fate says otherwise! And I say otherwise too, because Micah and Nox were forbidden perfection from start to finish. My gosh, I truely love the complex world Lark has created and this new spin off series really hit, including past series cameos that made my heart happy. Micah has a complex history spanning Millenia being heavens most trusted soldier, but damn the boy has fallen on his sword for those he loves one too many times. And then Nox is such a hot bad-boy vibes demon, and the way he is all “who did this to you” swoon - 10/10 main character energy. There is hate filled spicy times, Heaven being contradictory a-holes, demons with hearts of gold, solid plot & intrigue and perfect found families. A thousand percent recommend if you’re a PNR fan.
I love Lark Taylor's world so much. I've read most of her books. This one was top five. I thought it would be too similar to Dimitri/Dagon/Lucky, but nope! This one hit the spot
Y’all I Really Enjoyed This Book A lot It Was Really Good And I Really Loved Micah And Noxs Banter Is Was Really Amazing And The Hurt Comfort In Here I ABSOLUTELY Loved It. My Only Thing Is I Wish This Was A Little Bit Too Long. Because I Git To The 50/60% Mark And I Realized That The Story Just Went Too Long For Me, It May Nit For You But It Did For Me. But Other Then That A Really Great Enemies To Lovers MM Romance And I Do Recommend If You Want A Good MM Enemies To Lovers Paranormal Romance. I’m Pronely And Not Gonna Read Book 2 Unfortunately, BUT I Will Read More By This Author Because I Do Love Lark Taylor’s Writing A lot.🫶💕
This started strong and emotional, but lost me a bit after their mutual confessions. Around this time, Nox and Micah lost some of their personality in favor of overly saccharine declarations that felt occasionally out of character. It's clear Taylor is setting up an overarching plot, and much of the story after that point opens plotlines and relationships to come. There are several side characters im very interested in, so I'll definitely be reading more.
An Angel x Demon, Enemies to Lovers, MM romance with fated mates but (still) forbidden love! It's a paranormal romance with snark, drama, all the feels, fun + sweet times, & a strong sense of found family ❤️. I loved Micah & Nox so much! I'm so glad to have gotten the #ARC on my birthday 😍. I read it as soon as I found a whole day off 😉. I had such a cryfest reading this (very cathartic), I devoured it in 10hrs!
Micah is an archangel, leader of the Seraphim. M's uptight, a rule follower, protective of those he cares for, but also cutely shy & HELLA powerful. He's smothering under work pressure, & a broken heart 🥺. Nox is a demon, his group recently got freed from Hell. N loves to cause chaos, is an asshole as demons are (especially to angels lol), but also loyal, sweet, oddly gentle & helps the deserving. N's tattooed & pierced 😏.
It's a standalone story, but if you've read Luck of the devil...Get ready for this ride! These 2 are classic #OppositesAttract 🤭. The snark & banter is amazing! The hurt, vulnerability, breaking biases, insecurities, care, hopeless-ness, commitment tugged at my heartstrings.
The forbidden nature of their love, even tho “THEY'RE FATED!!” is such a (angelic) political intrigue with high stakes 😈. I did wanna see THE torture (IYKYK) & I'm so ready to see the court's downfall ASAP! The plot so did it for me.
N+M's chemistry burns hot! The roof top scene 🥵. Love me a vers couple! Their dates are cute ❤️. Their found families came in a clutch. Lark made me care for each of them! I also loved the cameos. It's poetic 🤭. The ending's adorable. Awesome start to the series! I'm all in to read the angels' books 😇.
Rating: 4.5 Steam: 3 PoV: dual, 1st person Genre: paranormal romance, MM Tropes / tags: fated mates, hate to love, opposites attract
Conflicted was a fantastic start of a new series - be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster with fated mates who'd rather be fated to just about anyone else, some great push and pull, hate sex and all the feels!
I saw someone call these two “forbidden perfection” and I can only agree. Lark Taylor wrote the enemies to lovers with the forbidden elements very well here and I had a great time with Micah and Nox's story! The push and pull together with their chemistry was entertaining and addictive, and I loved how they couldn't stay away from each other despite trying and knowing better.
I have to admit that I didn't expect heaven to be such a... dark place. There was far more corruption and power games going on than I anticipated, and it had me intrigued and hooked very effectively. It was great to see that Nox gave Micah some new perspectives and the way it made him starting to reconsider and question how some things were done.
There were moments when I really had no clue how things would play out, and my heart hurt for both Micah and Nox. Finding out just how much Micah carried all by himself and seeing his loneliness had me in tears, and it was definitely an emotional read. Things were certainly complicated for them and they really didn't make it easy for each other, but I still loved the way things unfolded between them.
Conflicted was a great start to the Hopeless Blessed series and Lark Taylor has me very curious about the characters that were introduced here. I can't wait to go back and see what these angels and demons are up to and just how bad things really are "upstairs".
- Thanks to the author for the opportunity to read and review this book. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.
Omg Micah and Nox were the most adorable enemies- how they tried to pull away from what fate had deemed inevitable. I love a good fated mates story, specially where they fight so hard against the pull only to give in in Dire circumstances giving me all the swoon I need.
Nox was absolute perfection - snarky, cavalier but with a loyal heart of gold. Micah bending over backwards to the nth degree to meet his responsibilities and needing someone to take care of him for a change. These two coming together was so extremely satisfying.
I absolutely loved the world building and the questions the story raises and debates on good vs evil and all the grey areas that exist in between. I am also super curious about the mysterious plot line on what’s going on in purgatory.
I loved seeing all the other supes and humans from other books set in this world filter in and out and band together, what a sensational climax - also loved all the new characters- this is a banger of a first book to be honest and I can’t wait for Ez’s book next - is it with who I suspect it’s with 😄
Expect:
* Archangel x Demon * Enemies to lovers * Fated mates * Possessive MC * Protective MC * Hurt comfort * Forbidden * Found family
From the first moment they saw each other, it was hate at first sight 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
Needless to say, Micah was not in the right state of mind to be open to the possibility of meeting his destined mate, much less to accept that said mate is a demon.
Nox, for his part, has always felt this pull that drove him to want to live topside, and he didn't know what that pull was until he saw Micah, which didn't make him very happy either.
I would have liked Emilio's eradication to have been on-page, I want to know every detail.
I hope Gloria also finds an ending similar to Emilio's in the following books!
At the end of the book, we are left with the mystery of who Jeremiah's destined mate is. And who is Ezekiel talking to when Micah went to find him in the library.
Also, will the twins have a destined mate each or one for both? I need to know! I hope it's the latter 😋😬
Again, I feel I miss something since others seem to like it but I found it all messy. Weird. I love the idea of fated mates but the view of them doesn't make sense? So you're telling me you blindly follow the fates but also... don't? Then what is the point? And oh my god Lucky was on like 3 pages but managed to absolutely annoy the shit out of me. Why was he written like an absolute child?? And I guess the author wanted it light but to deprive us of Emilio's death... no. I wont pick up the other book.
