Pucking My Fake Fiancé

Rate this book
He’s back. My small town’s hockey god and my brother's best friend. The one who took my V-card and vanished without a word. Max Decker. Cocky, self-centered, he looks every bit the man I remember—and more. His white T-shirt clings to his powerful arms. And his hands... strong, big, and thick, reveal his well-endowed nature. Now an NHL star, Max needs a fake fiancée to seal a multi-million-dollar deal. I'm not eager to play pretend with the boy who broke my heart, but my parents are about to lose their home, and Max can save them. Our charade sparks old flames. Stolen glances sizzle with desire. But when jealousies flare, Max faces a his deal or us. I should probably tell him at this point that I'm pregnant.

A standalone spicy novel with an HEA. No cliffhanger, no cheating, no love triangles and no violence.

I have been kindly offered and ARC copy of this book via Booksprout, and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Pucking My Fake Fiancé is a second chance, fake engagement hockey romance. Hailey comes back to her small town in order to help her parents with their bed and breakfast, and finds out that they are having some serious financial problems. Max comes back to their hometown, too, but he has his own reasons: he needs to clean up his "bad boy" reputation, which is threating to ruin his career in the NHL. He sees an opportunity for good publicity in a relationship with Hailey, and suggests a fake engagement to help her solve her parents' situation.

You will love to hate Max: he is obnoxious, full of himself, and cannot take anything seriously. Although he has a good heart, he is apparently unable to express his feelings and diffuses any tense situation with jokes. This is so frustrating, especially when Hailey clearly wears her heart on her sleeve. She is quite the opposite, and this makes for a very unbalanced relationship. I would have liked it better if he had a bit more depth, because the constant miscommunication made for quite a rushed HEA in my opinion.

DNF @ 21%. Look-I love a fake fiancé, boyfriend, marriage, whatever, but this just did not do it for me. The author really missed out on writing the aftermath of feelings after the first hookup. Yeah, we assume she was devastated in that she was around him all the time and he didn’t treat her any differently, but why couldn’t the author write it?

Why does the male always have to be a ho? Why does the same age brother have a say in ‘hands off sister’? I’d have kneed my brothers if they told a guy that whether I liked them or not. Haha.

It went on a stretch from him seeing her to ‘I need a fake fiancé’-ummm, his lawyer didn’t say that. Didn’t even tell him to have a fake anything, just hang out and clean up your act.

And why do authors always have to say the MMC is a Greek god? Like come on, I’m so over it. I didn’t like the internal dialogue of the MMC, his ego was too big and needed popped.

A monumental moment for Hailey in high school with her brother’s best friend leaves her heartbroken when Max walks away like it meant nothing to him.

Now, several years later, Max is a NHL superstar returning to his hometown in hopes of repairing the bad boy reputation he’s built for himself. After running into Hailey, he devises the perfect charade - a fake engagement. And in exchange for playing along, Max vows to help Hailey save her family home. It’s a simple solution, except for when their real feelings for each other come rushing back and it all starts to feel a little too real.

After a string of mediocre reads recently, this book was refreshing. While there wasn’t anything necessarily unique about the plot, I think that’s what I enjoyed most. There weren’t any complex storylines and it wasn’t filled with meaningless details. And I love a good fake relationship trope.

With Hailey and Max’s history dating back to high school, I had a sweet spot for them despite the way things ended the first time. Of course Max’s reputation also made him seem like a prick, but it was easy for me to see past it once he meets Hailey again. Even though their engagement was a charade, you could still see the respect that Max had for Hailey.

I liked that I could still feel the sexual tension building between Hailey and Max, but it wasn’t a painfully slow burn. And the level of spice was just right.

Although I appreciated the easy and quick read, I do wish there were some parts of the story line that played out a little longer. I would have loved to see Hailey integrated into Max’s world outside of their hometown bubble, perhaps even seeing him in his natural element playing hockey.

Overall, this was a quick and easy read with one of my favorite tropes: a fake relationship. It definitely satisfied my craving for a good romance!

Rating-3.5 stars out of 5

This was a good light read-I was able to read quickly while still being engrossed. I appreciated the blend of tropes and some little diversions from how they normally work out. Loved the expansive vocabulary used and the interactions between the characters, even if Max usually has the emotional intelligence of a brick despite his apparent intelligence (big vocabs are always a good thing)

All in all, a good fast read for the days you need a little spicy action without thinking about it too much

What I liked:

-Fast paced, easy to speed through in a day

-Hailey has unconditionally loving friends and family. There's never a betrayal, no catty interactions, just absolutely wholesome people around her

-the lady always comes first, if you know what I mean

-love a small town vibe with people who are happy to see our main characters and celebrate the success of the hometown kids

-While Hailey remembers who she was in high school, she doesn't endlessly obsess over it

-I appreciate not dragging out the sexual tension

-mixing tropes

-no sex shaming

Things that took me out of the story or ways I thought it could be improved:
-minor internal incongruity
-some tense switching. 98% of the tenses were correct, but there was 1 chunk that made it through editing
-world and character development. Both characters could be more well rounded and emotional depth for Max was lacking

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The story in general was a cute rom com with just a sprinkle of hotness (nothing too much nothing to graphic nothing explicit just 2 or three smex scenes described lightly). It is mainly a rom com , a sweet story between two ppl that began their love in high school and after 10 years they are met again. At the start of the book I was frustrated bc some of the phrases were used again and again and again (like the"... glint of mischief in his eyes..."). But after the half of the book it was toned down.

In my opinion though it was a generally a good read , I found myself asking too many question about the feeling coming through from Max (for Hailey they were crystal clear for how when why etc). But Max is a man that was never described more than just a flirt, a Joker, making everything a joke not been serious for anything and always smirking winking grining.....Use your brain and words man just once so we can see that you actually have teeth and emotions and brain but just for dome reason you mask them. There is no reason why he is acting that way, no past trauma, no hurt, no story whatsoever! And just like that after everything he's fine and said suddenly....He has feelings! The Hailey part was smooth understandable and believable more detailed and totally explained.

Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the read but I couldn't connect with the story and especially with Max.

I got this as an ARC and I fell in love with the story of these too!

Hard working lawyer Hailey comes home for a visit to find out her parents are in some serious financial trouble. And since she lives in the big city, her savings account isn't what it could be.

Max is living the life of a pro hockey player, complete with the playboy and trouble maker image. Contract time for sponsors and they want him to clean up his image to the point of being boring. At least I'm sure that was his thinking. His savings is full of funds and ready to help out Hailey. He offers to help her if she will help him. And the rest is history and how they get there!

Loved the story with emotions and a little steamy!

Max and Hailey narrate their P.o.v .Ten years ago Hailey Rogers thinks Max Decker Hockey God of Cedarwood High school is a cocky self centred so and so but can’t help that he affects her centre…He’s her twin brother Jake’s best friend and they’ve always had angst banter between them. But one night at a party Max goes where no other boy has gone before…Present day and Hailey’s back home, now a legal eagle but poring over her mum and dad’s bed and breakfast’s lot of tax papers trying to make them add up is not happening, they’re at risk of going under. Being In significant tax debt. Max is also back , now an NHL star player and looking hotter than he was when he upped and left after taking her v. And he has a proposal!? One that could also save her parents from financial ruin…. Running with it the two lovers are the new media sensation… I’ll leave the rest to your imagination. I love this author’s style of writing so much! The characters are so good, the descriptions are sublime and the reading is an immersive experience.

There was too much whiplash with Max and Hailey. They did not behave in a way that made sense to me. I love the fake relationship trope so I’d always give it a go but I had a hard time with this one.

Max was just not likable or redeemable throughout 90% of the book. He was a real insensitive, immature jerk. His transformation did not seem realistic. There was no growth in his story line that made sense. It was as if someone waved their magic wand and then poof, everything worked out.

Hailey just didn’t seem very smart. The choices she made and how she went about reconnecting with Max did not seem authentic and seemed very forced to me. There was just so much back and forth with her from going from hating him to loving him and back and forth.

Then there were all the “legal” things in the book that made it seem like a lawyer wasn’t consulted at all about what might actually happen in these situations. It just didn’t seem very well researched. I think others might like this book but it isn’t one that I would keep.

PUCKING MY FAKE FIANCE By Livvy Stone

Max Decker. Cocky, self-centered, he looks every bit the man I remember—and more. His white T-shirt clings to his powerful arms. I enjoyed this book. I would say it is a solid 3.75 star read for me.

I generally enjoyed this book on most levels. It is sweet, has that good small town romance vibe we know and love and most importantly the fake dating/engagement trope.

Hailey is trying to do whatever she can to help her parents, who are in a bit of a bind when it comes to money. Her savings aren't enough and she knows she needs help. Max Decker, the one and only, the guy who broke her heart years ago is the only one with the means to help her get what she needs. But he wants something in return. Her to play his fake fiancé so his reputation gets clean and he keeps his promo deals for hockey.

The sparks fly in this small town sports romance book. There are more sweet moments than I would say down right spicy ones but still enjoyable to read.

I will say I wanted more from Max. He is flirty and that go to guy for a joke but I didn't see him as a totally well rounded character. While I enjoyed the sweet and sass to Hailey, Max would not make it on my book boyfriend list.

I received a n A R C copy of this book and am leaving an honest review.

I received an ARC of this book in for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily. Pucking my Fiancé by Livvy Stone is part of the Pucking Hot Hockey Billionaires Series. It is a second chance romance featuring Max, a hot and cocky NHL superstar who gets sent back to his small hometown to repair his reputation. Max runs into Hailey, his one time love from high school, who is in town helping her parents with the family’s B&B. Max come up with the genius idea to use Hailey to fix his reputation and keep his sponsors happy. Will Max and Hailey turn their fake relationship into the real deal?

I enjoyed this book for what is was, an easy to read, and simple second chance romance. The characters were funny and charming. We can’t forget to mention Hailey’s bestie, Lucy, who had me cracking up! I do wish the book had more of a hockey focus and that we got to see Max’s character develop more emotionally. I found his character tiring at times. I also would have like to have seen more on their life together and perhaps en extended epilogue that went further into
The couples future.

I gave this book a 3/5. If you’re looking for a light, easy, and fast read this book is for you.

Disclaimer: I got this book for free on Kindle. I participated in stuff your kindle day where I got a bunch of romance books for free, roughly 2,000 books. I normally do not read romance books but I wanted to try the genre. I typically read fantasy, science fiction, biographies, and classics so this is way out of my comfort zone. My plan is to draw a book at random without reading the summary, title, and avoiding looking at the cover. As long as the book is not too graphic for me or leads into something uncomfortable, I will be attempting to finish as many of these books as I can in 2024. I understand that many of these books will likely not be top tier but I am hoping that I can learn something about the romance genre as a whole and figure out if any types of books in this genre are for me.

My Review: Sports romance is definitely more my thing. I struggle with this genre though as the drama feels over the top sometimes. Like with this one, if the two main characters would just talk things would be easy. I know you need a story to write a book, but it feels so fake to me.

I enjoyed this book for the most part, but there were certain parts that didn’t sit so well for me. This was mainly due to Max, as he came across as so self involved. What made me not dwell on it too much was that he was always coming from a good place. He wasn’t doing it to exert his authority he just truly believed what he was doing was in the best interests of everyone.
Hailey was a character that I enjoyed reading right from the beginning. Family is very important to her and she would rather make herself uncomfortable than seeing her family members suffer.
There are some great supporting characters in this book that all add to the story and there was one in particular that I basically cheered long and hard for when he received his comeuppance. This part was outstanding and strangely enough it seemed to bring Max & Hailey closer.
After finishing this book I will definitely be keeping my eye open for more books by this author

Hailey is the classic smart girl with a jock brother. Family is the most important thing to her, which will lead her to a deal with the boy who broke her heart in high school. Max is, by all accounts, the heartthrob hockey star all the girls want. Unfortunately, he is a bad boy who needs an image overhaul. This leads him back to the small town he grew up in and the girl who got away. I love the premise of this story and that we get dual POV. The build of this romance is great. The lust of it all does come in quick but was so good. I’d only give this a 2 on the spicy scale. You do get the details, just nothing super spicy. The story is great. The characters are loveable, honestly couldn’t put it down. If it wasn’t for my kids, I'd have finished in one sitting. I don’t think the enemies part was really a thing so much as he was a jerk as a teenager. Their banter is great, the relationship is well developed, and I definitely recommend giving this a read if you’re a sports romance lover.

Really cute playboy jock/serious lawyer, friends/enemies-to-lovers, fake relationship romance!
The MMC, Max, is the typical, playboy jock. A star hockey player with a bad reputation, his endorsement deals are drying up if he doesn’t get his stuff together.
Hailey is a lawyer who’s come home to her small town to help her parents fix their finances to avoid losing their bed and breakfast. Things are looking pretty bad already when she finds out that Max, her brother’s best friend and her childhood crush, is in town. She hasn’t seen him since he pulled a one-night, love-‘em-and-leave-‘em number on her in high school.
Totally oblivious to Hailey’s grudge and hurt feelings, Max offers a deal to save his reputation and her family home. He’ll pay off her parents’ debt if she’ll pretend to be his fiancé for a while.
Sweet, spicy, and full of feeling, Pucking My Fake Fiancé is a fun, engaging read.

I liked the plot of this book and thought the promise was there but some things seemed to be left out and other things seemed to be the focus.
I thought Max was a bit immature and I didn’t see a lot of growth with him, but I loved Hailey. Their chemistry is great and I loved their budding relationship, but I felt like I wasn’t getting the full picture. I also didn’t see the relationship between Max and Jake as being best friends, so it was a bit odd for me.
The closing of the book was sweet and a great HEA but some of it felt rushed and I was confused about a few things.
Overall I liked the book, I just wish there was a little more clarity on some things. I do want more of this world and look forward to seeing what could happen.

Let me start off by saying HOCKEY Romance is my absolute favorite to read. I am to read every single one!

With that said - it's hard for me to find a Hockey Romance that's not predictable. I will be honest, the first 30% or so was quite predictable - but Livvy flipped the script on me and I am extremely happy that she did.

Fake Fiance
Bad Boy Reputation
Wholesome FMC
High School Crush
Brother's Best Friend

^^ That's what you learn in the first 30% or so, and that's where the predictability came into play for me. But . . .

** SPOILERS BELOW THIS POINT**

But!! Then the charade gets blown up, (which rarely happens) the lawyer is a skeez, the girl ends up pregnant, and OMG - just didnt see it all coming.

Well Played Livvy

While I did enjoy this novel, it seemed to move very quickly and I would’ve loved some further details/embellishment/information from scene to scene. I did love the characters Max and Hailey and the story behind them, as the history is something that you can totally relate to happening in high school. I would’ve loved to see more of them develop more and more in-depth with the characters and each other. It seemed rushed and some of the chapters seemed to have weeks between them. But overall a very good love story with lots of chemistry with a guaranteed HEA.

This book was written with so much heart. The chemistry on these pages could be felt. I couldn’t put this baby down. Brothers best friend, hockey, first crush/love, and second chances. It had all that and so much more. The one thing I loved the most was that Hailey is this strong feisty independent woman who isn’t afraid to speak up. Max is the jokester but has this whole other side of him that he doesn’t share with everyone. I just enjoyed the banter between them as much as I enjoyed the all around situation they have found themselves in. I can’t wait to read another of Livvy’s books. Definitely grab this one, it’s a great read!

Max comes to Hailey with a plan for helping both parties. Max and Hailey had an encounter in high school and hadn't seen each other since. Max has a problem and realizes Hailey needs something also, so he suggests a fake engagement. Almost immediately there are problems with this plan. This story is told in dual POV, which I wasn't sure about. I had no problem with this and I am not sure if all her books are like this but I had no problem reading it. There was very little repetition between the dual POV's which kept my interest. It was well written and the first book by this author that I have read. I will definitely read future books by her.

What do you do when your first love blows back into town to fix his bad boy image? Well marry him of course.

Max stole my virginity and my heart and then ran off to play hockey. Now he's back and needs a fake fiance to fix his image.

My family is desperately trying to save our home. When Max come up with a plan for both how can I resist.

Will this time together mend our hearts or tear us apart forever?

The chemistry between Max and Hailey was off the charts. Heart warming HEA second chance lovers.

A fake relationship + hockey romance

Hailey and Max had what you would call a tumultuous relationship right from the start. And as much as it wants to call this an enemies to lovers romance it was far from that as the chemistry was evident right from the start.

All in all, not a bad love story, it did drag in places and some places felt like it was doubled up but not, if you get me, which left me rereading places to make sure I wasn’t missing something.

Ice hockey romance
Brothers best friend
Best friends twin sister
Fake relationship
Accidental pregnancy
Bad boy image needs fixing/ she needs money to save her family home. A win win

Max is back home trying to fix his terrible reputation of being a bad boy. Hailey is not very happy to see him since she feels like her seduced her and they left town. But, he offers to have a fake engagement with her to fix his reputation and help her with family issues. Can Hailey get over her hard feelings about what Max did? Is there any possibility of them falling in love for real with all the fake kissing and dating?

This book was cute I liked how the beginning went back in time and how Haley and Max became a brief fling and was left immediately. Years later after Max becomes a famous playboy hockey player he has to clean up his image. What better to do that then revisiting home. Haley’s family needs help, Haley can help get his image back with a fake engagement and then they can call it quits.

I will say this story definitely had some twists and cute moments I hope that there is a sequel book to see where they are after that hockey game with the news shared. I’d love to see how they navigate a wedding and their other big news!

I really liked reading this book and getting to know Hailey and Max. With all relationships communication was something they had to learn to do and once done they were a power couple that prioritised themselves. Falling back in love again and going after what they both felt deserved to be taught for. Their friendship and love come out so genuinely with passion it leaves nothing to chance. This book will leave you with a feeling of where is the next chapter. Hopefully we get book number 2 soon (no pressure)
