Molly hates Christmas. And it's not even her fault. Her mum and dad had the biggest ever Christmas single when she was a child, complete with video evidence of Molly in a hideous Christmas costume joyfully singing the mortifying last line that EVERYBODY knows.Molly has spent her life trying to play it down but then the song is used in the hottest new Christmas film. It's only November and it's already EVERYWHERE. And when Molly meets a cute guy at the premier, how can she stop him from working out who she is?But Molly isn't the only one hiding her real identity... will her Christmas romance turn out to have a Hollywood ending?
This book was so cosy and Christmassy - a big 4.5 stars from me!
I'm actually devastated that this is the last Beth Garrod YA book I have to read, so I'm absolutely going to go back and reread her trilogy, next. Thank the Lord for putting both of her festive stories on Kindle for near enough 99p this December! Nothing could have put me in the Christmassy spirit better than these stories... and I'll definitely be buying physical copies so I can reread them again and again as the next Christmas rolls around.
This book was YA romcom perfection, a leading example of how to write the perfect cosy Christmas story for British teens. Molly is awkward, embarrassed of her uber-festive family, and hoping to disappear under the radar... but willing to do anything, even host a huge Christmas party and join the influencer team for a massive press tour of a new movie, for her best friend.
The book takes place between a small English village and Edinburgh, Liverpool and London... there's snow and much Christmas music and many awkward encounters and laugh-out-loud moments. It felt like it could have been a film, for how much gorgeous festive magic it entailed. There's also a huge twist that I didn't see coming, and it made the book ten times better than it already was.
If you're looking for the perfect cosy Christmas read, let it be this... a British YA romcom with the sweetest cast and message. I hope Beth Garrod has more Christmas stories in store...
This is very definitely a YA read. The FMC is 15. Modern day Trixie Belden/Nancy Drew with an elf instead of a mystery. Lots of crazy shenanigans and misunderstandings that would never happen in real life. Short of Hallmarkish for teenagers.
Not me reading a Christmas book in this 90 degree heat... 😬 I love British books. They are so cozy and idyllic. ☺️ All the Jingle Ladies by Beth Garrod was cute and heartwarming. This has a Christmas meet cute, sweet friendship between Holly and Grace, quirky and supportive family, Britain at Christmastime, first love, and lots of laugh out loud moments. Reminded me a little of Dash and Lily, which is also v cute. I loved it. Thank you Sourcebooks Fire and NetGalley for this eARC.
This was cute, but I think it would have worked better as a Middle Grade read. I didn’t like the main character’s dishonesty or overdramatic attitude and the excessive use of caps lock got somewhat irritating after a while. I did like the message and the main character had some growth by the end of the story, but this didn’t end up being a favorite holiday read of mine.
3 ⭐️ This book is a mood. All the cheesy christmas vibes and puns, combined with one clumsy hardheaded Christmas Scrooge.
☕️ Grab your blanket and curl up with some coco for this adorable little YA. Molly Bell (15) has the best friend a girl could ever ask for, and is willing to put her dislike for Christmas aside to make it one for her bestie to remember - all in the spirit of Grampy G. But despite Molly’s talents to pull this off, she is flawed to a fault. Clumsy and embarrassed of her true s-elf, she has banished her identity to behind the scenes at all costs. And to make matters worse, she is a major procrastinator, and finds herself painted in a web of lies that is bound to catch up to her.
🫣 It started off a little slow for me, but by the third chapter, I was pulled in. Parts of Molly’s character really frustrated me. She was so busy trying to control what others know and think, that she lost site of what’s important. There were also a few things that seemed far fetched for me, but I tried to shut my logical brain down and focus on the cuteness and innocence.
📈 Overall, while it was easy to tell where the book was heading, it was nice to see the character grow and learn her lessons. In the end she came together for her friend, and had the true fairy tale ending (the one that is definitely not IRL 😂 but sweet none-the-less).
💖 This books underlying message has a lot of heart. It’s about being brave, and accepting yourself for who you are. Putting your all in, and not worrying about what others think. Because if you never try, you will definitely fail. But if you try, you just may succeed.
Thanks to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Fire, and Beth Garrod for providing me with a complimentary ARC to review!
I loved this book with my whole heart it was so funny and fun also very festive I read it in this winter season and I absolutely love it a lot!
We meet Molly Bell who hates Christmas after her parents made a soundtrack that went viral and now it’s gone more popular and she was an elf girl in the video which Molly tries to hide who she really is with some people she’s around apart from her best friend Grace who knows the real truth of everything but when she meets a cute boy at the movie premiere Molly discovered love for the first time but things became challenging for her to cope with but things didn’t end up being a romance through the book some drama happened that changed a lot of things for her.
If you’re a fan of Super Awkward you’ll love this one I also recommend this similar to fans of Geek Girl it has those vibes in it but I’ve been a fan of Garrod and her ya novels I feel Christmas ones suit the best for the wintery time because you feel all the love and joy and cuteness in them all the jingle ladies felt like a cute big hug I can’t wait to read the other novels Garrod has!
This YA book read like a middle grade novel. I know I haven't been 15 in a while but I do remember not being this immature and annoying at that age! The over-dramatics of the main character Molly drove me insane and I honestly felt bad for her family and friends with how rude she was. I also called the "twist" from a mile a way. This was just a miss for me and probably my least favorite festive read I read this year. This novel is getting coal for Christmas.
Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was such a cute book!! It had a slower start, which had me struggling to read it quickly, but the ending was worth it! There were a lot of plots to follow along but I like each one of them! It was sweet getting to read how Molly navigated her struggles with balancing friendship and her family, and often putting herself in situations she didn’t want to be in to uplift the people around her. I loved seeing how she and grace’s friendship smoothed out to be, how she and Ru’s connection unraveled, and she and her family came together!! Can’t wait to talk about this book with Emma and Grace at our book club!!!!
A very cute holiday romance, but had one GLARING issue. Even though I knew from the beginning that this would probably be the twist, I just don’t know how NOT A SINGLE PERSON, especially the side characters who saw the darn thing, KNEW HE WAS THE GUY!! It felt like the author was going to tell the story she wanted to tell without fully fleshing out the foundation and make it make sense. I just…I can’t with it. An otherwise 5 star read, knocked down cuz the author (and also her editor and anyone else who had eyes and hands on this thing) couldn’t be bothered to make it work plausibly.
All the Jingle Ladies was given to me by a student in part of a Christmas gift, so I went in completely blind. I’d definitely wasn’t what I expected. Cute, but VERY YA, and a young YA (just a lot of choices that leaned more tween than teen). I finished only because I’m sure the girl who gave it to me (we talk books all the time) will ask about it. Just not for me.
I'm trying to make an effort to DNF books I'm not enjoying and not looking forward to pick up. Unfortunately, this was one of those books. Even though I read a lot of YA this seemed too YA for me. I found the MC to be annoying and acted too young for 16.
Reading a book about someone disliking Christmas as a Christmas book doesn't put me in the festive spirit and even though its highly likely she will enjoy Christmas by the end of the book I just couldn't read anymore.
I think a younger audience would enjoy this 12+ or as a film it would be ok.
It was slow at the start, however picked up at the end. The ending was predictable and I was able to put the pieces together in the middle of the book. However I definitely recommend this book! It was really fun and a cute read in general. Very much Christmas vibes.
What a sweet, heartwarming story. I feel like this book was even more about friendship than love and u really enjoyed that!
Molly dreads Christmas. She’s scared of people finding out about her family’s Christmas song Love Your Elf. She’s really scared of people finding out that she was the little elf in the video! She was just a little girl in the video and only her best friend Grace knows the truth. But it’s humiliating to Molly in the way that things can only be humiliating when you’re a teenager and your parents are enveloped.
But Molly’s best friend Grace means the world to her and Grace is going through a really hard time since her grandfather Grampy G died. Normally Grace is little miss Christmas but this year her dad is too sad to celebrate.
When Grace’s boyfriend breaks her heart, Molly and Grace make a pact to be “Single Jingle Ladies”. This means being both single and making the most of the holiday season. Molly agrees to do anything she can to make Grace enjoy Christmas this year despite not enjoying it herself.
Molly’s parents surprise her with the announcement that they are going to the film premiere of the new holiday movie. They absolutely shock her when they tell her that Love Your Elf is in the movie.
Molly tries to hide at the premiere so she isn’t recognized as the elf girl and she meets a sweet guy she calls Ru. Her and Ru tell each other half truths about their lives as they are both keeping some secrets.
As Molly starts to fall for Ru she worries about letting Grace down. She’s also worried about her and Grace’s ability to pull of the fundraiser they’ve been planning in Grammie G’s honor.
Sweet. Heartwarming. Christmassy. First love. And a story of friendship and family, I really enjoyed it.
Molly is your average 15-year-old, wanting to join a band, live under the radar at school, & being totally embarrassed by her parents being 'The Rocking Stockings' a Christmas band. Back when Molly was just a small child & her parents were known as the 'Brussel Shouts', they made a Christmas record called 'Love Your Elf' & Molly starred as 'Little Elf Girl'. A fact Molly has been trying to hide ever since. Now she hears that unbelievably the song has been chosen for the soundtrack to the latest Christmas romcom out this year & her cover could be blown. If her schoolmates & neighbours find out she was the 'Little Elf Girl', her life won't be worth living.
This is definitely not my usual reading fare but I quite enjoyed it. There were some parts that made me laugh out loud, there's lots of references to British pop culture, & there was so much going on - not just the main plot, although I thought that the twist was a bit obvious. There's a smidgeon of romance but it's age-appropriate if a bit corny. I'm not the target audience but it was a pretty good read & definitely great for my Christmas readathons for the seasonal setting.
3.5 Stars Let me start by saying, I went into this book COMPLETELY blind because the cover and title were both adorable. Since I went in blind, I was unaware this is a YA Christmas romance and not my usual spicy romance read. It was actually my first ever YA Romance!
I can't lie, in the beginning I was very hesitant on Molly's likability. She really reminded me how hard we tend to be on FMCs when reading. It was her constant scroogieness that had me hesitant about her and the story in the beginning, but looking back, she was just your typically "grumpy" main character and teenager. We (or at least I) don't judge grumpy, scroogie, MMCs as hard as I did Molly in the beginning of All the Jingle Ladies and THAT realization had me a bit disappointed in myself but also made me give Molly a fair chance.
And when I did give her a fair chance, I really started enjoying the book. The characters were fun, especially Molly's Christmas crazy parents, the story was cute, and it had the touch of Christmas magic we crave during this time of year.
A suitably festive rom-com. Our main character, Molly, used to love Christmas but she has hated it ever since she became aware of how cringeworthy it is for her parents to have had a festive hit involving her dressed as an elf. This is the kind of embarrassment you could overlook, at least until the hit is used in a Hollywood movie. Molly does her best to hide her identity, worried about what it would mean for her if her peers found out. Unfortunately one of the publicists on the movie has a picture of Molly in an awkward situation involving one of the stars (red carpet misunderstanding, but who let the truth get in the way of a good story?) and uses it to their advantage. What comes next hits pretty much every Christmas rom-com trope. Silly though it is, it's hard not to fall a little under its spell.
Who doesn't love a Christmas story?!?! They are my not so secret addiction...I love the happy vibes, the excitement of the holidays and I love it even more when it is 100 degrees outside!! This was such a cute story, the reader loved the characters, the plot, the location of the story and the overall vibe of the story!!
The reader can't help but "Love You Elf" after reading this one!! This is one book that you don't want to miss! It will give you all of the holiday vibes and make your day a little brighter!!
I was definitely in need of this cute little Christmas read after a good month of either high fantasy or horror. Teen troubles and a christmas meet cute! It was such a fun easy read and I really flew through it. It was just what I needed to get me into the Christmas spirit and with so much going on this time of year a nice fun seasonal easy read was definitely necessary.
I'm not a fan of this book, but it wasn't bad. I don't think I'm the target audience. I think the relationships and the tone of the book are best for those between the ages of 13-18. This was a really sweet book. The writing was a bit juvenile, but it fit the characters and how they viewed things. It was a very easy read.
I recieved this book free as an ARC at the Chicago Lit Fest in September. It is definitely a YA book, with its intended audience I'd say, around 14-17 years old. But still, it was a cute, fun, festive holiday book. It has some moments that bothered me, at times it was all over the place and had me wondering if I missed something, but it always eventually explained itself.
ok so I was halfway through this book and was contemplating on giving it 3 stars because it didn’t really shine to me butttt as I got to the last around 70 pages it got incredible the plot twist was something I absolutely never thought of and the ending was the cutest thing ever so, def would recommend if your looking for a easy and fun Christmas read
