Love, love, love romance, the paranormal, hunky Highlanders with their delicious brogue and hot kilts, so Terry Spear writes about those hunky Highlanders both in medieval times and as wolves in contemporary times. Jaguar shifters too! And young adult urban fantasy. And romantic suspense.

She grew up reading mystery, adventure, mythologies from around the world, ghost stories, the paranormal, fell in love with Dracula and Wolfman, and felt they needed loving too. Everyone should have someone to love. Which means her stories always have a HEA.

The fifth book in the white wolf paranormal romance series by Terry Spear, Mated for Christmas, is a sweet holiday romance with several action scenes and a little suspense. Private Investigator Sheri Whitmore and her pilot boyfriend, Slade White, end up taking a romantic holiday vacation in a cabin retreat in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area of Minnesota. Both are Arctic wolf shifters and they each hope to concentrate on their relationship and where they want to take it, but trouble abounds with danger to them and others.

Sheri is normally organized and efficient, likes to have closure, is sensitive to how other others feel, and is always willing to help others. Slade enjoys helping others and does a lot of volunteer work. He has a great sense of humor, and is generous, protective, kind, and honest.

This is largely a sweet, feel-good, holiday romance, but it has some action, a mystery, and danger to add depth to it. There is no real conflict between the two main characters. It all comes from others. Both are flexible when it comes to schedule and plan changes. It was also great to catch up with the other members of the pack that were featured in earlier books.

Once again, Terry Spear drew me quickly into this story. This novel has threads of romance, suspense, family, friendship, danger, action, lies, thefts, giving back to the community, and much more. There are a few steamy scenes in this novel. Relationships drive the narrative and the dynamics among the characters was one of the most compelling aspects of the story. The world-building was excellent and easily transported me to the Boundary Waters. I loved the chemistry between Sheri and Slade and the ending was perfect. It’s positive and uplifting.

Overall, the plot was entertaining, and full of romance, action, and suspense. It took this reader on a compelling journey. If you enjoy contemporary paranormal romantic suspense novels, then this author may be one you will enjoy as much as I do. I am looking forward to reading more of her books. There is the possibility for a future romance between two of the secondary characters in this one.

I purchased a copy of this novel. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Mated for Christmas by Terry Spear
White Wolf series #5. Paranormal wolf shifter holiday romance. Can be read as a stand-alone however extended family and pack members for the prior books celebrate the holidays together in this book.
Arctic wolf shifters Sheri Whitmore and Slade White have been dating for several months, longer then pack members usually just date. This Christmas season they’ve both decided they want to make their future together and relationship permanent. They celebrate the holiday and their mating at a cabin retreat in the forests of Minnesota. They run into some unexpected trouble with a storm and a group of men caught by falling trees. Then another group clandestinely searching for something and this second group isn’t friendly. Then ….this secluded cabin is not as quiet as they expected. That’s ok. They get time together and that’s really all they wanted this year for the holiday.

Lots of holiday traditions, family and so much food you’ll end up craving your own holiday favorites. Includes a bit of police action and investigation since that’s just part of their world. Mostly a feel good holiday romance with Sheri, Slade and their pack families.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley.

Sheri is a private detective with a wolf pack in Minnesota. Her brother Hans is supposed to go on a winter ice fishing trip with her boyfriend Slade. But when Hans gets sick, Slade and Sheri go on the winter vacation together, and their relationship turns serious. When they are at the cabin, they hear someone calling for help, and learn that a storm has caused problems for some other vacationers. Sheri and Slade help the men, who saw something strange nearby, get medical attention, When Sheri and Slade investigate, they find a downed plane, and it appears that someone was up to no good. I did wonder about Sheri's client seeking her out at a remote winter cabin asking her to work a case when the office was staffed with other capable detectives--would they really reveal the location of a vacationing colleague? Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

This is a feel good book, for the most part it's puppies and rainbows for Sheri and Slade. Sheri's killing it in her job and Slade gets his girl. It was fun to see how thing progressed for them and all the fun they had, despite running into criminals and saving people left and right. Both Sheri and Slade, never hesitated to help anyone they ran into, let the police know what was going on, so that they could get the bad guys and had a lot of fun with the pack. In between all of that they decided that yes, they were going to be mates and had fun cementing that bond and planning their future.

This just wasn’t for me. I don’t know if it would have worked better if you read the other books, but it just lacked tension and the good moments of a romance. A lot was repetitive and conversations that we didn’t need to have with other characters. Couple is already together at the start.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an advanced copy to form opinions from.

The action is just okay and there are a lot of these slow domestic scenes between that I think are supposed to play out as cozy but they just read as boring to me. Also, WAS Bentley too controlling?? They only mention it 4 times in exactly the same way.

I usually like the books about wolves very much, but unfortunately, this story was very difficult to read. It was a little too descriptive and felt like a lot of filler that was unnecessary. I love to get lost in the worlds of my books, but with these two characters, I felt I was reading more of a script with little emotion to the story. I love strong female characters and that these two were more partners than one dominating the other but just could not get into the story line because I just could not get lost in their world or their love story.

It’s been a while since I last read a book by Terry Spear, and I plan to change that soon because she has written many books that I need to catch up on. Her Heart of the Wolf series was one of my favorites, and I discovered it at a used bookstore years ago. I can’t believe I’ve been neglecting to read more from her wolf series. However, I want to mention early in my review that Mated for Christmas didn’t grab my attention like her earlier books did.

A Brief storyline: Sheri Whitemore is a Private Investigator, and her latest case has her looking for a wife’s husband who went missing, but later on she decides to call it off. The wife doesn’t give any explanation, which Sheri finds strange. Sheri ends up going off with her boyfriend, Slade, on a cabin retreat, and the whole time they are there, they end up having to rescue several people. One of them leads to the missing husband that Sheri was called off on looking for him. Sheri knows something suspicious is going on and, she’s determined to find out what. She’ll have the help of her boyfriend, Slade, other wolves, and even the police to find out what happened.

My Thoughts: I liked the characters in Mated for Christmas and enjoyed reading their love story, even when it was already established. This book mainly focuses on their decision to be a mated couple and their life goals while spending time at a cabin together during Christmas. I loved how all the artic wolf shifters were involved in Sheri and Slade’s story, even though there were so many to keep up with. The mystery behind the missing husband was put on the back burner, though, even when other things were coming into play in the book. I felt that Sheri and Slade, who were enjoying their time together at the cabin, ended up stumbling on so many things that tied back to Sheri’s case. There was a lot of repetition that took away from the story, and I found myself getting bored with it.

I love Terry Spears’s books, but this one didn’t quite keep my attention. Maybe it’s due to me missing out on reading the previous books in the White Wolf series, even though, supposedly, this book can be read as a standalone. I don’t think it is, though, since prior characters from the series play a role in Sheri and Slade’s story. I think if I read the other books and then reread this book, I’ll enjoy it more, which I may plan on doing eventually.

Single/Dual POV: Dual POV in Third Person.

Standalone or Part of Series: It’s part of the White Wolf series but should be able to read as a standalone. Although, I recommend reading in order due to the secondary characters in this book playing a role.

Do I recommend this book? I will still recommend this book despite giving it three stars. Readers familiar with Terry Spear’s work may enjoy it. It just didn’t quite keep my attention, like her earlier books.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

❄️ I chose to read Mated for Christmas because the cover immediately caught my eye, and even though it’s only October, I love starting Christmas-themed stories as early as possible. Terry Spear has a wonderful way of creating characters who feel real, with flaws and vulnerabilities, yet also warmth that instantly makes you care about them. ❄️

❄️ Sheri Whitmore and Slade White captivated me with their contrasts: she is independent and courageous, while he is protective and mysterious. Their relationship begins in a festive setting, during an isolated Christmas getaway, but gradually develops as unexpected obstacles and dangers test their bond. I was impressed by how each tense scene added depth to their connection. ❄️

❄️ What I loved most was the balance between romance and action. The romantic moments are sweet and tender, yet never lacking in passion, while the suspenseful elements keep the story engaging. The winter atmosphere and Christmas magic make the story even more delightful, adding a layer of warmth and intimacy that made the story feel incredibly real. ❄️

❄️ Spear masterfully builds a world of arctic shifters full of rich details, where traditions, instincts, and the connection to nature intertwine perfectly with love and emotions. Every page conveys both adventure and intimate moments, and the dynamic between Sheri and Slade is so authentic that I felt like I was witnessing their journey firsthand. ❄️

❄️ Mated for Christmas is a charming story full of magic, romance, and emotional tension. It’s perfect for anyone who loves paranormal romance with holiday elements and adventure. I highly recommend it to readers who want to be swept away by magic, love, and heartwarming moments this Christmas season. ❄️❤️🦌

This was a beautiful Christmas tale about 2 people whose hearts had found their other half. The book has plenty of steam as these two mate for Christmas as the title implies. Of course, their entire romantic vacation isn't all snowboarding and fishing, they rescue injured hikers, chase down the missing and help the police bust a ring of criminals. Along the way, we touch back in with lead couples from previous books. It is nice to get an update on who has kids and who has kids on the way. Family both biological and pack play a huge role in the story and you get a true sense of family closeness.
What I personally found the most interesting about this story was how so many of the loose story lines tied together. In the beginning of the book, Sheri is doing her private eye job and has multiple open cases that she is working on or just resolved and both come back in big ways when adventure comes calling during their trip. Speaking of trips, the book actually opened with a different type of trip that will give you the feels when Slade and Sheri take a mommy dog and her pups to their forever family. Slade clearly has a big heart as this story proves and the fact the Shari did not hesitate to push date night to this trip proves she is the one for him. The pair had amazing chemistry and an amazing support system in their loving family and friends.
I am not new to Terry Spear's book but I am new to this pack. That is something I will remedy soon because this book was a fun read full of love, family, Christmas, puppies and adventure.

Sheri and Slade are part of the arctic wolf pack in Ely and have been dating for months. They go on a holiday "camping" trip with each having plans for the other. But things keep happening and trouble finds them. Still, they work together and discover that they are meant to be.

I'm a huge fan of Terry Spear. Her books are an instant read for me. I don't even read the synopsis, I know that the book will be good. Terry does shifters so well. I love her sense of family, friendship, and the connection that mates feel. This was a captivating story that had me hooked from beginning to end. Full of romance, intrigue, and suspense this book will tug at your heartstrings in places and have you on the edge of your seat in others. Terry Spear marries the paranormal world with the real world in such a great way that you'll be looking for your very own shifter! I truly enjoyed this spectacular read and am already eager for the next one. I highly recommend both book and series. You can't go wrong with Terry's books so just pick a series and start reading.

I enjoyed *Mated for Christmas* and the established love story between Sheri and Slade. Set in a cozy cabin, the focus is on their decision to become a mated couple while navigating life goals and adventure. The involvement of Arctic wolf shifters was fun, though sometimes overwhelming.

While the mystery of a missing husband took a backseat, the book beautifully captures their bond with plenty of steamy moments. I loved how Sheri’s private eye work tied into the plot, and the opening scene with Slade rescuing a dog and her pups showcased his big heart.

As a fan of Terry Spear, I found this story engaging and full of love and adventure. However, the pacing dragged a bit in the final section, so I knocked off a star. I think reading the earlier books in the White Wolf series will enhance my appreciation. Overall, I recommend this holiday romance!

I have tried a couple books by this author. Still haven’t been able to get into the flow of this author’s writing.
The style feels so much like a long list of plot points without much feeling. The dialogue is stiff and just comes across as odd to me. The characters in this story were always so cheerful and love struck even when being hunted by armed robbers. There was an imbalance in the descriptions with detailed names of places and recipe ingredients but so little sensory information it felt robotic.
Violence. Sex. Some language. Family drama.

(3.75) PI Sheri gets her HEA with Slade. Trouble finds them on the Christmas vacation. I like the way seemingly different threads are tied together and the HEA all wrapped up with the sense of family, wolf pack and Christmas.in an eventful way. Thank you for the advanced copy. The fourth story in the White Wolf, Arctic wolf shifters Sheri Whitmore and her boyfriend, Slade White hoped to get away to celebrate a festive Christmas at a cabin retreat in the forests of Minnesota. They end up with a mystery on their hands, there is drama, suspicion, rescues and twists and turns. I enjoyed reading their story. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is my first book of Terry Spear.

If you are a fan of the genre and Christmas, then this book is for you! While I enjoyed the story and the characters, especially Slade and Sheri (their love story - I felt it could have been a bit more detailed than their cottage heroics), there was something about the writing that kept throwing me off and taking me a bit out of the story and that is why I am giving a 4 stars. I would definitely read another book from Terry!!!

I got this as an ARC! Thank you to Terry Spear and Sourcebooks Casablanca!

This is an entertaining and engaging holiday romance that fans of the genre will love. This is Slade and Shari's story that opens with what is supposed to be a fun winter cabin vacation. What follows involves criminals, flying bullets, and a plane crash. Fortunately, they're wolves, so they have a bit of shifter abilities to help them resolve the situation.

I loved this book and was turning pages just as quickly as possible, until I got to the last section, then it started to drag on a bit. I still enjoyed it and recommend it, but took of a star. The author is on my must read authors ' list

This book can be read as a standalone. There are other characters from what I assume are the other books in the series with their current life updates. Spear lays down the groundwork for a possible future romance for another couple. All and all, it’s a holiday romance so there is plenty of mistletoe and cheer.

I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
