On a picture-perfect early-summer day, Preacher Austin Blake’s life changed forever. Upon returning home from a trip, he learns that his wife has passed away while he’s been gone.
Shocked by the news, and distraught at not being able to say goodbye, Austin’s grief is too much to bear. Suddenly unsure of the power of his religious belief, he sets out on a journey to anywhere that the painful memories can’t find him.
But Austin cannot escape hardship and grief. His aimless wandering leads him to a gruesome scene at a stagecoach swing station, where the only survivor is an eleven-year-old girl who is just as lost as he is.
Unable to leave the girl behind, and unsure how he’ll be able to help, Austin has no other option but to take her along and head for Denver, where he might be able to find someone who can better care for the poor youngster.
The only problem is, that it looks like the people responsible for the carnage at the swing station are heading in the same direction.
With his faith in question and revenge on his mind, Austin must decide what his best course of action should be.
Will he be able to fend off the thoughts of getting even with the killers and avenging the little girl’s grief and suffering?
Or will his violent ways resurface and take him on a path of death and destruction?
