Justin is a Chicago street cruiser who has a liking for Mexican men. The night he finds Duke panhandling in front of a Mexican restaurant along 26th Street in Chicago’s Little Village, a mutual interest between the two men begins. While Justin is primarily interested in Duke, Duke is primarily interested in profiting off of Justin’s interest in him. “Getting Duke” is about their meeting, dating adventures, and the friendship that develops through time. In that Duke is basically straight with an interest in a female and Justin is gay, problems in their relationship occur.
A quick and easy read about a lonely street cruiser, who this reader oddly started caring about, and Duke, a money-hungry man who makes himself available for the cruiser's nighttime desires. Adding disturbing depth and believability to the story, Duke's controlling wife develops into an interesting minor character. The realistic characters are in a well-defined and familiar Chicago setting.
