I didn't read this front to back - though I probably would have loved doing that as a kid. Instead, I used it as a resource while diving into 2000s X-Men comics. For that purpose, it's pretty terrific, giving numerous characters' backstories and solid recaps of long-ago Marvel events.
That said, even this 2024 edition is already out of date. And some truly obscure characters are included while other, perhaps slightly less obscure characters are excluded. I guess as a printed encyclopedia, it'll never be perfect in those ways, though, so you can't really fault it.
One fault I can point out: there's limited mention of where each character appears, at least in terms of what comics would be worth searching out if you're really interested in a given hero/villain. All you get is a "first appearance" mention, which probably isn't going to be the coolest one.
