Review for complete series
This is the perfect series for lovers of cats and gamers if ever there was one. Set in a world based entirely on RPG tropes, the road to victory is long, for what's a hero to do when a cat decides to sit on his lap?
Our main character Red soon accepts that Mr Cat wants his lap and no other's - promptly turning him into a cat person - saving the RPG world be damned. His two companions, the magician Grace and martial arts fighter (and voice of reason) Aina have no choice but to acknowledge that Mr cat is here to stay. Funds are spent on special fish and cat tutorial books in place of weapons and magic tomes. Crucial skills are learned (Red learned Pick Up Cat!) and levels are, somewhat slowly, gained. Vet visits become a priority, villains aren't all that bad (who doesn't get on with a fellow cat lover?) and, should Mr Cat go missing, pots and barrels get smashed in true RPG fashion. Of course, we all know cats prefer the boxes - or treasure chests in the RPG world equivalent it seems.
Cat on the Hero's Lap is, naturally, a parody through and through. Some jokes may be lost on people who haven't played an RPG before but any cat lover will recognise the feline shenanigans. The chubby ginger Mr Cat is definitely the star, but Red and company come across plenty of other cats during their travels and this is really just cat antics galore. The art is great, both for the human characters as well as the cats. Mr Cat has mastered the soulful stare and I am not surprised he even got through to Aina who is far more focused on keeping the whole world saving business in mind.
There are a few sad backstories for some of the cats but it is otherwise a series that's truly just for laughs and awws. I feel like this series doesn't get enough recognition among the many cat manga and I'd warmly recommend it to any cat fan (especially game fans). It's a nice compact 4 volumes series and thus doesn't drag unnecessarily. A perfectly wholesome series that will make you smile and laugh. My personal highlight was my own cat sitting on my lap while reading this of course.

This is good for fans of cat manga but honestly not enough happened to even draw my interest. There really isn’t a plot outside of Red being unable to stop the cat from sitting on his lap. I also couldn’t tell if this was supposed to be a play on a RPG or not. The artwork was beautiful but I think I’m going to stop at volume 1.

This was a fun and cute read!
I really liked the premise/idea of a hero's party not doing well because a cat simply keeps sitting on the hero's lap anytime he sits down! Not only that, once the cat sits, Red (the hero) doesn't have the heart to move him! LOL!
Lots of fun running gags with that idea in mind and had a great time reading this first volume! Unsure if I'll get the next volume right away, but it's one I wouldn't mind picking up more of on a whim because I had such an enjoyable time reading this one!

Cat manga is basically its own genre, and this title is a great addition. It mixes RPGs and cat shenanigans into hilarious situations and lovable characters. The premise is fun and creative, and definitely relatable to those of us with cats.

Great if you like ridiculous plots! A band of hero's continuously tried to defeat monsters, and each time is defeated because a mysterious cat keeps coming along and sitting on one of their laps. Without their 3rd party member, they fail every quest...but come on! Everyone knows once a cat sits on your lap you can't remove it!
Hilarious and great fun, this was a super quick, lighthearted read.

Ah, this is SO CUTE!
As an avid fan of cat manga, I may be a bit bias when it comes to rating manga in which even one cat appears—but, if reviews aren’t the place to let your biases run wild, I don’t know what they’re for?
I found this first volume to be both charming and utterly wholesome. I so appreciate when tired tropes and genres are reimagined—in this case, we’ve got the boring fantasy pseudo-isekai genre being given fresh life with the addition of a pleasantly plump kitty cat in need of a safe spot to nap—AKA, our hero’s lap. How wonderful. Truly inspired.
Every gag was more delightful than the last—I never didn’t want to see this cat turn every quest our central trio tried to embark on into an absolute clusterf*ck because he wanted to sit in the hero’s lap. I loved it every time. There’s just something very satisfying and enjoyable about seeing a cast of otherwise cool-looking characters played for fools because a cute cat crossed their path.
Here’s hoping for more cats getting their wittle paws into more genres of manga~

On Caturday I read cat manga :)!
I loved this one and immediately ordered the second volume. I’m grateful someone recommended this one to me!
A group of 3 heroes, go on quests together to defeat monsters. They level up and learn new skills like in a game. But a cute and round cat keeps crawling into one of their laps at the most inconvenient times and Red just can’t move it! It’s so comfy!!!! They keep ending up at the castle again to get their health restored over and over and over because of the cat’s interference in many (adorable) ways, it’s hilarious!!!
There’s even a “pick up cat” skill one of them learns and several other clever and funny details.
This had great characters, it was hilarious and cute and very clever and well done.
I have started a little personal cat manga library which keeps growing, so I will share cat manga reviews regularly here on Caturdays from now on.

I've had yet again another success in my quest to consume all the cat manga I can find, I absolutely loved this!
The story is so funny, it kind of reminds me of a mix of Frieren and Solo Leveling. I found the main hero Red to be so comical with his weakness of Mr Cat, I felt bad for fighter Aina and mage Grace for having to deal with all the fights themselves since Mr Cat always made himself comfy on Red's lap. The gaming/ D&D aspects were comforting to me, I'm always a sucker for a point system- with skills acquired too (lol, chapter 6 where Grace learns to pick up Mr Cat).
I liked the different shenanigans, and how Mr Cat's lifestyle kind of resembles that of the Hero's Party, especially when it comes to finding safe places to stay or earning a meal.
This manga feels low stakes, it's funny and cute, and of course hilarious too. I'm definitely reading the next volume, hopefully it doesn't become too repetitive, but even so, I don't think I'll mind!

there is absolutely no room for apathy in my heart. playing it cool is for losers—this was so sweet & funny, im boosting this slice of adventure story above four stars 😙
the scene where the group is trying to summon a spirit and the cat just…plops in the middle of the summoning circle and shoves the spirit’s head back down was absolute gold. mr. cat will sleep & chill on any comfortable surface so long as no one disrupts him, even if it’s in the middle of a ritual.
it was ultimately the deciding factor for this high rating, along with many other things :’) i can’t wait to follow more adventures for the rest of the series!!! red and his ragtag group of friends keep trying to find ways to level up in order to defeat the demon king, but a furry friend just can’t resist jumping in. he can do no wrong <3

The plot is literally just...a cat on the hero's lap, but it makes me want to sob with happiness, satisfaction, and fulfillment :')

Kind of adorable. It uses a combination of cat lore (like you can't get up if they sit in your lap) with adorable online multiplayer game situations. They learn cat things along the way to interact with cats and heroes better. The art was interesting but felt just okay to me.

A delightful cat-centered piece of rpg satire, The Cat on the Hero’s Lap is fun though not necessarily life changing. However, the book is adorable and easily endears itself to cat owners who ever struggled with moving cats from their laps after they have been chosen by their cat for a snuggle.

This was absolutely adorable & ridiculous. I loved it. It really is just a story about a Cat sitting on the Hero's Lap and the party being defeated because of it. The Cat is adorable. I can't wait for the next volume.

I seem to be the only one that didn’t really enjoy this, which is sad. I love cats and really enjoyed the art in this volume. It might just be a little too simplistic and goofy for me. I mean, nothing really happens, only the end was interesting for me. Debating if I will continue, I mean, I would like to enjoy it and hopefully it gets good? But also afraid it will be another flop…

Cute...? story about a party of three adventurers who can't make any progress on their quest to defeat the demon king because... a cat keeps sitting on the hero's lap. Very specifically, Red the Level 3 Hero, who has not been able to catch up to his Level 12 Mage (Grace) and Level 10 Martial Artist (Aina) companions, because Mr. Cat is curiously hell-bent upon sitting on HIS lap in specific. Red needs only to slightly bend his knees, and Mr. Cat is in his lap, or forces his way into MAKING it a lap.
It's pretty one-note, and there's a curious amount of... "evidence" that Mr. Cat is a mister. It's cute for a single volume, but I don't know if my interest will carry to a second or even third volume. I can only say, "I will have to see!" but this is entirely dependent on whether I even find it in a store, since that's the main way I pick up titles these days (too many I would actively follow to start special ordering them!).
Recommended for cat lovers who also... I guess... get tired of overpowered adventurers always succeeding on the first try? I don't know.

I can't say how much this influenced my experience, but I have a cat exactly like Mr. Cat (his name is Bagel Face and he is gloriously soft) both in looks and a lot of the behaviour too so reading this I was of course seeing my own cat which made it that much more adorable and hilarious. Because yes. I have sat in one spot for an hour not doing anything I need to do or going pee or reaching my drink, because Bagel Face is comfortably asleep on top of me.
That said, the best parts of this whole thing were the RPG lines about gaining (or using) skills and leveling up.
This is not a narrative style manga, don't come looking for a story, it's just a really funny and cozy evening read. But well worth it.
