Rate this book
On their way home from a horse show, Lizzy and her parents encounter a small dog darting perilously close to the freeway. Compelled by compassion, they rescue the frightened animal and welcome him into their family, naming him Freeway. His origins and intended destination remain a mystery, sparking curiosity and wonder.

Freeway proves to be a bundle of joy and energy. He’s affectionate, brave, independent, and playfully mischievous, delighting in accompanying Lizzy and her friends on their horseback rides across the moors.

However, intrigue deepens when Freeway mysteriously vanishes one evening, only to return with an unexpected and lavish item. Questions abound: Where did he find this luxurious gift? What secret adventures is Freeway embarking on?

I liked horses, rode horses, read about horses, even owned a few. I loved books like this one when I was in Junior High/Middle School. Didn't matter if the book was a master of literature or a read-in-one-afternoon book.
A caveat, though. The book is listed as YA (young adult) - it's really more at 12-14 year old range. It's still fun and a worth while read.

Just dropping by to share, from my own experience, that I would recommend this recent publication Finding Freeway by Stella Perrott (and its prequel Finding Magic) to be definitely worth considering as a gift for the YA readers in your life – and an unmissable hit if they’re into horses!, although it’s not a prerequisite. FYI the age groups of the main characters run from about 12 to 17, so there’s a connection for a range of readers there. I particularly liked the combination in both books of a) everyday life, family, friendships and feelings, b) unexpected questions / intrigue / mystery and adventure running along on the backburner, c) the intersection of times gone by with the present and d) very readable dialogue, descriptions and action scenes that keep the story rolling. And also, for the parent / grandparent / aunt (moi) etc who may be giving this book as a present it also invites, in what I found for this age group to be a constructive yet unobtrusive way, a little bit of contemplation about life and stuff as well. I have heard that there’s another sequel on the cards too which is great as it’s always nice to see kids getting tucked into a good series – and to have another gift up your sleeve for their next birthday or Christmas! Watch this space : )

Finding Freeway is a marvellous book aimed at the twelve to fourteen age group. Stella manages to successfully interweave the various threads of her story: The mystery of the stolen valuables excites the reader, Lizzy’s adventures with her pony at the equestrian event impress the reader, and the romance of young love, and the love of a small dog, engage the reader. Finding Freeway is a story all youngsters will enjoy.

An engaging story about a feisty dog and a horse loving family.
Lizzy rescues a small dog found on the freeway, hence the name. He is lively and inquisitive leading to a number of adventures. Where does he go, and how does this impact the family?
This is an easy read for 10-14 year olds, detailing a year of ups and downs for teenagers and their families.
Ideal story for those who love animals, especially dogs and horses

I really enjoyed reading this, it had that element that I was looking for from the description. The story and characters were really well done and the overall story worked. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and how everything flowed well. Stella Perrott wrote this perfectly and can't wait to read more.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Cute story for kids! I loved reading Finding Freeway and would recommend it to kids reading a chapter book. Great story between teenage friends - and one not-so-friend! - and the animals in their lives. A very touching story.
