A clueless kid and his girlfriend make a discovery that could make them millions… or more likely, get them killed. Enter Crawford and Ott... in furious pursuit of the couple, on a wild ride which takes them down to Miami, then up to New York, and ends with a red-hot Charlie-Dominica road trip to the Keys. Along the way is a dazzling ex-girlfriend of Charlie’s, and a treacherous array of drug dealers, cutthroat contract killers and a murderous Columbian gang leader. The trick is for Crawford and Ott to keep the kid and his girlfriend alive…not to mention, themselves.
I've read all of the books in the Charlie Crawford series and have enjoyed them, until this one. I feel the title of this book should have been Palm Beach Vacationers. I thought there was far too much of the book devoted to Charlie's vacation.
Sooooooooo disappointing. I think the author may have lost his touch. I have read all 13 previous Charlie Crawford mysteries. They take place in the Palm Beach area, full of twists and turns and Charlie’s shenanigans. This one I could not finish. It had an unrealistic plot regarding a rich kid coming upon 150 pounds of pure cocaine and trying to sell it on his own with his ditzy girlfriend in New York City. Definitely do not recommend.
Palm Beach Schemers by prolific mystery and thriller writer Tom Turner is another winner featuring all the characters we have grown to love in this enduring and beloved procedural. Crawford and Ott are hot on the trail of 150 pounds of cocaine that has washed up on shore in Florida and found by a naïve young man who thinks he can sell it and live the good life.
The detectives follow leads in the greater Palm Beach area and finally end up in New York City. There, they find not only the naïve young man and his girlfriend but also a hitman who has been dispatched by the seller of the cocaine to eliminate detectives Crawford and Ott.
Palm Beach Schemers live up to its name. There is plenty of action, entertainment, and realistic law-enforcement dialogue, and enough action to keep the pages turning on their own.
Turner is a multitalented writer of many different series, each with his unique style indelibly imprinted on the pages. Turner’s books are perfect for any reader who enjoys a tall tail involving guns, drugs, criminals, and law enforcement. Do yourself a favor and pick up all of the Palm Beach books, seclude yourself for a couple of months, and by then, Turner will have written a few more books for your entertainment and amusement.
Love these two Palm Beach police partners! This is a great series, which any book can be a read alone. Charlie Crawford and Mort Ott are caught up in a smuggling operation with vegetables filled with cocaine. When a 22 year old male and his girlfriend find one of the vessels floating in the ocean and bring it to the beach to find out what’s inside. Instead of calling the police, they decide to remove the cocaine and sell 150 pounds of it. An innocent bystander is murdered by thugs wanting their coke back. This case puts Crawford and Ott looking for the coke from Miami, New York, and the Keys while trying to find the kingpins of the drug trade and trying to save the young couple from being killed. Great dialogue and a good police drama.
Detectives Charlie Crawford and sidekick Mott Ort are on the trail of an entitled rich kid and his girlfriend, who get involved in a drug cartel's operation by chance while out surfing. Who's soon hot on the young couple's heels? As always Charlie and Mott can be relied on to cause some mayhem and chaos of their own, as they bring the case to a vastly entertaining conclusion that will keep you turning the pages of Tom Turner's Palm Beach Schemers non stop. Turn off your phone and keep plenty of snacks and drinks nearby - you'll read all night!
Another great Charlie Crawford book. Pop culture references are excellent-highlighting the difference in life experience that just 10 years can make.
It’s nice to see Mort morphing into a fuller character. Question to Tom Turner: In a rich town like Palm Beach, why is Mort still driving a police Crown Vic? They’ve been out of production for 12 years. He should have a new Ford Explorer Police Interceptor…like the ones Palm Beach donated to Nassau.
Was a really great story of drugs famous classmates and bad guys all before the Great downfall of Charlies sweetheart from HS two vacations and mort getting shot and then the crimes are solved Charlie from afar watches justice semi served and Dominica shows people her virsion of lady Gaga ciao from Costa Rica from Bobbie and George
Mr. Turner keeps things evolving in this series! His characters are always developing and doing things in each story that are unexpected! All the characters are believable and the stories are as hot as South Florida! Keep writing and showing these characters in believable situations!
Not my favorite in the series. Very little plot and what their was pretty obvious. Even the romance of the MCs was lackluster. The last third of the story was simply a travelogue. If you want an itinerary of places to go or things to do in NYC, Miami or Key West then this book's for you.
Once again following the adventures of Charlie and Ott was exciting and ended all too soon. I read the entire book today. I hope Mr. Turner can continue to come up with more Palm Beach mysteries. I highly recommend the entire series.
What a disappointment. Not much mystery, an ending that read like a 4th graders book report and travelogue. Lots and lots of travelogue even after the ending of the story. I mean pages of descriptions of a karaoke night after the plot was resolved. It was pathetic.
We live in PB and though he kinda mocks us (we don’t wear black tie every night, the are fun reads just like the Ben Porter series on Amazon Unlimited.
23-2024. This series is good fun, and this edition was no exception. Our heroes solve some crimes, and have fun while doing it. Snappy banter, and some fine detective work besides.
