demon daddy

Dagonestra, Queen of Succubi, Mother of all Demons, six-armed sensual snake goddess and producer of strange video game titles, may have been less than honest with Ryan about why he was picked as the demonic Chosen One, but since Ryan’s rebirth as a warlock in the world of Eldwick he’s had too much on his mind to lodge a formal complaint.

First, he spawned naked in the boss level of the starter dungeon and had to fight his way backwards out of the place using only his knowledge of the secret levels, cheats and every creature’s stat block. Then his plan to rule the world hit a few bumps in the form of demon girls in desperate need of rescue. And finally, those same NPCs turned out to have thinking, feelings minds of their own and tried to rip him off. All before he’s finished the tutorial… talk about a steep learning curve for a game!

But the Land of Eldwick isn’t just the game he mastered when he was a kid, it was all based on a real place and Ryan – aka Rineskull the Warlock – gets to explore the real-life version of the only place that ever felt like home.

Now he and his inner circle of demon girl rescues have a new challenge to the starter town.
Under the menacing watch of Hellhound Keep sits Verbinnec, the town on the border of civilization. Part wild west boomtown, part hotbed of medieval skullduggery and fulltime wall-to-wall quest factory, the starter town makes the dungeon look like a day at the beach episode.

Because Ryan isn’t the only transplanted otherworld traveller trying to be the Hero. His opposite number is the world’s worst griefer, a Chad so full of himself that he thinks Eldwick is a solo-player game put there just for his amusement and Ryan is the only thing in his way of pure a player 2.

this book is an adult litrpg adventure fantasy with harem themes. Set in a world where today’s values and morals wouldn’t cut it, our hero has to either stop the demon genocide or rebuild the demon population himself. Do not read if you are easily offended by arranged marriages that trade baby-batter for magic, impersonating a high priest to pick up holy virgins, having your nemesis eaten alive by his own minions, using unregistered firearms for self-defense against monsters, or making a succubus act out your unconscious fantasies. In fact, you know what… if that bothers you should stick with borrowing mommy’s ‘puter with the parental controls turned on.

But if that all floats your boat, buckle up for femme demons, fairy blackouts, funky tree-huggers, frisky feline-girls, full-frontal trolls, flat-chested knights and flaccid flesh-monsters. F*ck yeah!

No Improvements

Interesting premise that carried the first book through the grammatical errors, strange choices, and even stranger characters, but this book is a lot more of the same, sometimes even worse. The grammar has gotten marginally better. The main cast makes all kinds or weird unnecessary actions that make no sense other than to push the story forward. The Main character has almost completely changed in a too short amount of time.

My biggest pet peeve about this book though is the recurring enemy Chad. How is this character still a problem? He’s described as this troll, but he’s actually a functioning madman with little believability. Also, the MC has defeated him multiple times but never in his vast experiences did he have Chad kept alive by someone. I thought this was were it was going to go because last book he mentioned he couldn’t do it because of the situation he was in but now it just seems lazy. This series seems like it could be pretty deep, but so many short cuts are used it’s hard to ignore.

For my last review of 2023, this breaks a string of ho-hum books I've encountered of late. The author has become one whose books I look forward to, and this one doesn't disappoint.

Few are the books I find with literal LOL moments, but this one has several for those with a darker sense of humour like mine. There is apparently more story here, so we'll see what Ryan and his menage (a quatre for the moment, if we don't count his patron goddess) are up for in book 3.

EDIT: there were a few typos, so have your editor take another pass.

A good upgrade

So this book is somewhat improved from the first, perhaps the author is starting to find their stride. The other characters get a fair bit of love, which is nice that it's not all on the MC.

It is more like 3.5 stars because there are more grammatical errors, enough to chafe. Getting more help proofreading or an editor would clear that up.

Still, I enjoyed it and will probably read the next eventually.

Best litrpghf novel in my library

Dear Author,
Thank you for the characters in this series. I’ve read book 2 twice now and I’m still thoroughly enthralled. The plot lines and steamy scenes are well done and keep me interested. Any chance your books can get a graphicaudio treatment? Will await book 3. All my best wishes to your continued success. Happy new year!

Book 2

I just finished book 2. So far im enjoying the series. I liked that the hero is gaining power regularly, but don't keep getting free passes. The women are fighters or bring useful skills & abilities also. Not just running, screaming & about to get everyone killed at any given moment.

Great read

I really enjoyed the whole story. He got so powerful, but had to start from scratch again. Still had all the tools of the trade, now even has the vorpal blade and maybe the speed shoes. Can not run away from taxes!

good story, good characters

The spelling errors seriously detract from the quality of the storytelling. It’s still good enough to ignore them and keep on reading. I’d give it 4 stars if they’re corrected.
