Wonder is a tender novel about kindness and the invisible battles people carry. What I loved most was the multiple perspectives, allowing the reader to see Auggie not only through his own honest voice but also through the eyes of those around him. His narration reminded me a bit of the child from My Sweet Orange Tree, although Zezé was deeper and more imaginative. Still, Auggie’s sincerity shines.
What touched me is how the book shows that life can be harsh, but it becomes harsher when we choose to isolate ourselves. In Buddhism they say: “When the student is ready, the master appears,” and in this story the masters appear in the form of classmates, teachers, and a loving family—guides who help Auggie face the world with courage.
This is not a masterpiece, but it is a gentle and meaningful book, a reminder that being with others can hurt us but can also heal us, and that sometimes one kind gesture is all we need to discover the parts of ourselves we never saw in our own lonely mirrors.
