Adeline Clark is a surgeon who has a boss that was the Head of Surgery and compromised his staff by taking advantage of women and threatening them if they do not comply. Adeline refused his advances and faced being fired.

It is Christmas and her sister is in Scotland and cannot be reached. Her best friend is in New York and had invited Adeline to join her with her boyfriend to party through the New Year, but would cancel if anything is wrong and will come if she is needed. Adeline didn't want to ruin her plans.

She is sentimental and goes through her closet and finds a snow globe. Her late mother said it was magical. Make a wish. What does she want? Does she wish to keep her job? Wish the day never happened? Does she wish to forget it all?

Adeline got depressed, grabbed the globe, shook it violently and said, "I DON'T WANT TO BE ALONE ANY MORE!" It slipped out of her hands and shattered. The apartment shook, thunder roared, the lights went out and she passed out.

She was transported to the Scottish Highlands in 1700 and found unconscious on the beach. This is where the book became hysterically funny when she was discovered. The reaction to her made me laugh out loud. The people who discovered her were very superstitious and observed that she had the face and hands of a woman, but the body of a bear (her winter coat). She had purple hair. They were afraid to touch her as she laid unconscious on the shore. Was she a spy? a Traitor? a sea creature who washed to shore? A Trojan Horse?

The Laird, Logan Anderson of the Gibson Keep, was more logical but did not know what to do with her. He didn't understand the words she used. TV? Phone? Airplane? Was she dangerous?

A plague was affecting parts of their island. They didn't have a healer. That's when Adeline said she might be able to help and seemed to have a plan. The story progressed from there. It had a villain, a mystery, an attraction between Logan and Adeline. She had no current medications, needed to go to the villages to figure out what the caused this plague, how to calm the people who thought she was a witch, and had to implement a basic plan to cure the people, who were very superstitious.

Lydia did and excellent job of showing the differences of two civilizations, the 1700s and 2023. The mystery was, what caused this, how to overcome superstitions, and how to contain the plague. The answers to several other mysteries are revealed as the story progresses. I loved reading this book! She wrote an excellent story and I gave it 5 stars.

Very simple style time travel romance which has Adeline, a surgeon, travel to an island off the coast of Northern Scotland, 1705. There are a few confusing issues, geography wise, but I can overlook them for a good story. The actual storytelling is not bad, albeit (as mentioned) fairly simplistic. One thing that bothers me - in that location, at that time, the sole language was Gaelic. It is possible a Laird might have spoken English, or more likely French, if he had traveled or had been away for school. But, in thus book, on this vague unnamed island, everyone speaks English, except for a specific 3 or 4 words, maither, faither and braither. Otherwise, there isn't even a mention of Gaelic.

There is no reference whatsoever to the political climate; however, Adeline is suddenly thrown in the dungeon because she mentioned Christmas - leading the Laird (I actually forget his name) to think she is Catholic. I found this very strange. Many Scots were Catholic, and resentful of the British government, especially the Hanoverian King, so why would he suddenly freak out and put her in the dungeon 'for the safety of his family and people', because she mentioned it was almost Christmas?

The only time any reference is made to outside forces, it's a throwaway comment re 'since enemies came to our shores 10 yrs ago', with no mention of who that enemy may have been. English? French? Pirates? So, that's what I mean by simplistic. There is a bit of a plot going on which helps make things more interesting, but it feels like the details are just missing.

The romance really didn't captivate me. All that said, the writing is technically good, though I'm not going to continue with the series.

I’m a sucker for time travel romance so I’ve read quite a few, this was definitely one of my favorites. One of my biggest pet peeves is when it takes FOREVER for the FMC to realize they’ve time traveled, like they convince themselves it’s still a dream or that they’re in a coma even though they’ve been there for months. This fortunately, wasn’t like that. She was understandably confused at first and convinced she had some kind of head injury but she was smart and realized pretty quickly that she’d time traveled. She also told them she’d time traveled and they believed her, which was super refreshing. I liked the characters and the romance a lot. I do wish there had been a bit more world building and the romance (specifically the steamy scenes) were a little cheesy at times but I didn’t mind 🤷🏼‍♀️ it’s a good read if you’re looking for a time travel romance with a smart FMC, a protective MC and a good story.

A Beautiful Love Story!

I absolutely loved this book. Lydia never disappoints.I loved the characters and storyline so much. Adeline and Logan had so much chemistry. The time travel in this story was great. I can’t wait to read what comes next. I was getting a little teary eyed when she was in her apartment feeling so lonely. Then again on the Tower Roof. But I’m so happy with the ending of this story. I would have like more (always!!) but I’m thinking a possibility for the next one is Jane. We’ll see. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜😊😊😊😊😊

OH MY WORD!! I am a huge fan of this author - Lydia Kendall. In her newsletter she offered the 2nd of this book series and when I realized it was the 2nd of 2 I had to purchase the first one (which is this one)

First off, I love anything that has to do with Scotland and more than love it if it is also a time travel book. This one has both those ingredients.

The characters are well written, the drama is off the charts and in typical Lydia Kendall fashion the spice is on point.

Fabulous story. Now on to the second one!!

Thank you Lydia Kendall for all your words!!!

DNF at 40%. So much potential gone to waste in this one. The writing wasn’t bad, there was just no angst….no dilemma despite these unusual circumstances. She time travels and everyone is way too accepting of this in such a short amount of time. And the instalust had me rolling my eyes. He goes from throwing her in a dungeon to taking her to bathe in the hot springs with desire in his eyes all so abruptly.

My search for amazing time travel romances continues on…..

PERFECT TIME TRAVEL ROMANCE

Lydia wrote the best book ever! This story totally captured my heart! The hero and heroine were perfect! The other characters were also great. The sudden twist of events and who was the real villain surprised even me. Maybe I was too entranced by the love to see it. If you like these Scottish time travel romances don’t pass this one up!

now or 1705

I am not usually a time travel reader. This book had so much plot it was a joy to read. Adeline was very gifted. She knew she could help others and was very willing to help to do so. Logan was a lonely Laird and found himself bewitched by Adeline. A very touching read.

I wish!

What a wonderful read. I really enjoyed reading this book. What bothers me is the book that arrived after she went back in time. She should have put in under her clothes. It's her and Logan in that picture that Jane sent her. They are buried together with the book in between them. Oh well.

An intriguing time travel romance set in 1700’s Scotland. Of course we have a hunky, gorgeous highland laird completely befuddled by a beautiful, mysterious, female claiming to be a doctor/healer from 2024. Fun, lighthearted story with plenty of sizzling chemistry between the two. ❤️ I really enjoyed this one.

time travel romance

A sweet happily ever after romance. You do have to wonder why she didn’t prepare better to go back and talk to her friend and sister first. At least find out where her sister was so she could leave messages for her. How is it clothes could transfer either way but the coin did not. What is the price she paid?

It was a good time travel story. I can just envision finding a purple haired woman in back in those days. The storyline was good and the characters were well developed. I don’t read too many time travel books, but I thought this one was well done.

A love story, against all the odds.

I didn't want the story to end as I watched a love story unfold. The characters became so real I felt that I was there. Willing it to be a happy ending

she lived in 2023 but after breaking a snow globe it was 1705?

How could she have traveled back in time when she didn’t believe in magic? Yet here she was trying to heal people that thought she was a witch.

This was a good story of time travel and all characters, male and female, seem to meld pretty good together--well only after the highlander realized what a huge mistake he was making! I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to others like it, thanks.

Snow Globe

What a wonderful and unusual storyline. The characters were delightful and at times the dialogue was witty. True love overcomes centuries of time and separation of family. Definitely material in this book for a sequel! Highly recommend this book.

Fascinating

Don't know if I'd like to go back in time, but for a love like that..... It was fascinating, enjoyed the times and the people. The strange beliefs were what caught my attention.
