A Heart Divided

This is my first read by Kaylyn.
I really did enjoy Noa and Khru’s story. I am sucker for a good black sports romance. This story was unique in that the main character was a baseball player. I haven’t read baseball center stories! Kaylyn had all the Ingredients to make for the perfect championship team until I noticed some of the ingredients were what I perceived to be from another author.

What I THINK happened is while Kaylyn was in the thick of her writing process she was also reading the work of other authors. In the midst of that she begin to add in details from their stories to her own.

IYKYK -
The play on them having a special “spaceship”, Khru using the phrase “Come here” , “Tell me something good” and “ keep my secrets” we’re just a little too similar to Rae Lyse’s “At the end of it all”. There were even some instance of Noa saying he spoke in riddles which is also a phrase used in Rae Lyse’s novel “Thirty”. I just think there are so many ways to describe special places and lingo that characters have without borrowing from other others. After a while, I didn’t care about their “Spaceship” because it felt like an unnecessary add on- it could have been a treehouse, clubhouse , anything but a spaceship. Several of the spaceship quotes were just to eerily similar to ATEOIA.

I’d suggest that this author gets a few honest and trustworthy beta readers to provide additional feedback to make her work unique.

This book could have been a 4.5 without all the blatant similarities.

This book feels like the hug you didn’t know you needed that made everything better!

Everything that made sense to Khru came crumbling down when not only does his wife file for divorce but he collapses on the field. Now he doesn’t have baseball or his wife.

Noa is hired to be his personal chef and get his health intact to get back on the field.

Despite Khru’s grumpy attitude sparks fly and the spaceship coupe is created!

Noa is my type of FMC! Speaks her mind and doesn’t take any ish and most importantly she continuously shows up!!

I love how Khru learned to use his words and took all the effort to be better and more present with Noa!

Taijah didn’t deserve him.

You can tell Kaylyn did her baseball research to write this book and I appreciate it so much. I don’t know anything about baseball but I feel like I learned some stuff!

The graphics in this book were *chefs kiss* it makes the reading experience 10x better!

While I wanted to love this book and it started pretty well, not even 20% into the book I started to get very uncomfortable because this book was heavily influenced by At The End Of It All written by Rae Lyse. I've seen a few reviews mentioning the spaceship reference, but it goes way deeper than just that reference. The whole concept was stolen. She even tried to write like Rae in certain parts of the book which did not work at all. By the time I was finished with this book my heart hurt, and I felt sick to my stomach. No one deserves to have their art stolen but for it to be another black woman stealing from another, it’s just very disheartening.

If you want to read something fantastic with superb writing, amazing character development, A love that you can feel off the pages then you definitely want to read At The End Of It All by Rae Lyse!!

I’m so torn on this book. On the one hand, I really enjoyed this journey. But I can’t overlook the similarities of multiple books in this one read. The similarities aren’t giving plagiarism by any means.

However, it was enough to truly distract from the story. And it’s like once I noticed it- I could never turn it off in my head. For example: the spaceship referenced reminded me of “planet ace” and how they conversed in “at the end of it all”. There were other things that read to similar. This is one of those reads I may feel differently about had I not read the other work first.

Still I loved a story about a black baseball player. I struggled with the FMC. Because while I loved a strong and slick mouth FMC, her exchanges with Tai were a little too crass. Especially because the relationship wasn’t there yet.

I love this authors work. With a bit more fine tuning, I think this could’ve been more. It seemed like the author was going somewhere with the Khru’s family dynamics. But the ball was sort of dropped. IMO those dynamics were all messed up and never got any better.

Now that I know what I know I’m shocked and that ain’t right what happened. I read “at the end of it all” in April by Rae lyse and when this book dropped I read it in December and I said to myself why this book felt familiar it was reminding me of Rae vibes were the two characters khru and Noa had their own “spaceship” and their own world and the way how they acted really really reminds you of Rae’s work. The book had a good layout and I gave it a 4 star because it just wasn’t completely there yet but had good potential to be something. But now finding out about all this and taking ideas from that book makes me so disappointed because I’ve read her work and she was coming up into something but now idk how to feel about reading anymore of her work. I’m sorry for Rae lyse as well because this messes with another author’s potential to even wanna put out work anymore too and makes her feel she can’t trust the reading community. I didn’t even know if I wanted to leave a review on this right now but it had to come out of my mind and I’m still shocked by this.

I really wanted to love this book but the spaceship references and the whole planet thing was the exact same from another book. If you haven’t read about Planet Ace in At the end of it all by Rae lyse, you wouldn’t understand the similarities. I dismissed it at first thinking it was just going to be mentioned a few times but once i realized it was the theme basically for the love story… it be annoying. You can’t unsee it and it’s way too close in concept. The exact same concept truthfully. Author did a good job covering her tracks to the point it isn’t plagiarism but it’s still stealing someone’s story. For that reason I have to rate this a 1 star and I won’t be reading any more work from this author going forward. I respect originality and true authentic work. Please do better going forward

This book was oddly similar to another book. As a result, it really messed up the entire flow for me. The constant mention of them being on a spaceship was very reminiscent of another book that uses the analogy/relationship connection of the characters as being on Planet Ace. It was just to close and uncomfortable.

enjoyable read

I have to be honest. I was going to DNF this book initially because I really didn’t understand Taijah, or maybe it was the writing? Why didn’t she understand reason? She filed for divorce but didn’t want a divorce. She was confusing. Like her character didn't have direction. Was she a bimbo? Was she brokenhearted wife? Were they in love? It wasn't believable.

Anyways, after pushing beyond my frustration the book was okay. But I need to be clear, 1 star was because there were too many similarities to Rae Lyse's book At the End of It All.

This was my first book from this author.

If you enjoy a good sports romance, that is going to keep you smiling and swooning while two people try their hardest not to fall for each other, but it's inevitable, then this is the book.

In Love in the Outfield, we are introduced to Khru and Noa. Khru is a professional baseball player, and Noa is a chef. Khru has a health scare on the field, which leads to Noa being hired as his personal chef to get him back on track. Their first meeting didn't go well, due to Khru being a grumpy a**hole lol, but my girl Noa didn't take no mess from him or anyone else. From there, a beautiful friendship begins while they both work on healing from all the BS going on around them.

The "spaceship coupe" references and their love for music were one of my favorite parts of the story. Of course, we get some drama; Taijah, Mieko, and DJ, I am looking at you. All got on my nerves, especially Taijah! Khru's family had their moments as well. Another great part was the graphics used with the scandal post throughout the story.

Seeing Khru and Noa finally get their HEA, and the way the fall in love was everything. That epilogue, now Kaylyn, you know we are going to need an update in the future 👀…

This was one of my last reads of December, and I enjoyed ending it with these two. If you haven't already, get into Kaylyn's catalog, this is my 5th read in the last 2 months and haven't been disappointed yet!

This was absolutely delightful

This was absolutely delightful. It was so well thought out. It was a broken hearts finding each other with a touch of alpha male mixed with a boss bae chick vibe. The sex was bomb, the dialogue was bomb, and the HEA was the bomb! I enjoyed this from beginning to end.

Too similar to another book

My issue with this book was how very similar the wording use between the lead characters were to those in book “At the end of it all” the “spaceship , pour planets, the make good decisions and the tweets “ were all matching this book.

The sad part is this book would’ve been good without this because the author had good bones

ARC Review

This book was given to me as an ARC and it’s going in my top 10 for the year for romance.

Y’all I swooned 🥰 I love me some Khru. Tall, built, professional baseball player? Yeah I wants parts. We meet Khru at a very significant point in his life where he needs to clean up his diet while recovering from a public scandal.

Fate put Noa Adams in Khru’s kitchen & let’s just say, it wasn’t the greatest first meeting. Noa’s not weak though & stuck around even when Khru was being bullheaded. Witnessing late nights runs for tacos, dodging paparazzi & ridiculous rumors & spending time in their Spaceship Coupe creates us a genuine love story.

I wanna be in somebody spaceship coupe…..

*sings* Hop into my spaceship coupe, there’s only room for two…..I won’t hold you. I loved this book. I loved everything about it. Khru and Noa felt so right together. Things definitely started off rocky but once they started to let those walls down and establish a real friendship I knew love was right around the corner.

They didn’t even realize what was happening until it was too late and I love when that happens between characters. S/O to Kaylyn for the way she effortlessly weaved baseball into the story but the way she turned music into a character….I ate that UP. Seeing Khru and Noa use music as a love language was so perfect for me. Especially because they both have good taste.

This was absolutely a love story….every time Khru said “My baby” I kicked my feet. The way Kaylyn made those small details feel so big and important without taking over the story (I hope this makes sense) was chefs kiss. If you are looking to read a real love story, definitely check this one out.

Thanks to the author for the ARC…..all thoughts and feelings are my own.

So much to love about this captivating journey that Noa and Khru found themselves on.

Khru, a professional baseball player, MUST change his diet if he wants to save his life, as well as his career. Noa is an awesome personal chef and catering business owner. She also refuses to take any crap from Tai, Khru's vindictive wife, while she does her job. Khru's friends, as well as his family are hilarious.

However, I love how Khru and Noa honor one another, after Tai hurts Khru using the Internet. And of course, all of the lies, vicious rumors and opinions of the busy bodies are posted on Social Media and actually incorporated within the story. Wow, never saw that before!

FYI: There are a couple of lack of editing errors that cause a couple of sentences to make no sense what so ever. Other than that: awesome story!

This novel gave me butterflies. The buildup between Khru& Noa was beautiful. I like the fact these two learned each other first and became friends before anything. Let’s get into the gritty Taijah was grimy the way she blindsided Khru wasn’t right at all. Noa faux best friend Meiko was just garbage. Cherise looked out by hiring Noa as his chef. Actually I should’ve started with how it’s very rare to read sports romance where it’s baseball either it’s basketball or football. Kaylyn did her research and delivered it so well. Her creativity is unmatched. Their love language was so sweet I found it adorable sharing songs were their way of uplifting each other. My smile was a mile wide when I saw her surprise. You guys will fall in love with this one.

My second KK book and I really enjoy how she writes sports romance. I am a story girl and I love how she takes you on a journey for real.

Khru and Noa were super cute to me. Their banter was really good, some of their quips with each other were hilarious. It’s not a super spicy book, kind of a slow burn, but I liked the journey. I also loved Noa standing on principle when it came to Taijah. My good sis said handle your business first and stood on that for as long as she possibly could. The drama and laughs from the side characters really added to feeling the love between Noa and Khru too. It was as if everything meant to pull them apart forced them together and I liked that aspect.

I’m definitely becoming a fan!

Has Promise

I really wanted to enjoy this book because I love sport romance but I have to agree with a few other readers in that, it is very similar to another author's work.

With that point aside, this story has promise. Khru and Noa had a love that developed naturally. This wasn't an instant love type of novel. Both characters were dealing with messy betrayals, leaving them reluctant to let down their walls.

Unfortunately, I felt the book started strong but fizzled out and dragged on way too long. I also noticed some editing errors such as different tenses used in the same chapter or events being repeated. Ex..when Khru picks Noa up from the airport, he brings her suitcase in before they go get food. When they return from food, he brings it in again. It was little details like that which threw off the flow of the book and had me annoyed as I read.

I also struggled with Noa's character. She feel flat to me and he'd attitude was terrible. Even once Khru got it together and would be nice to her, she was often nasty in response for no reason. And all that hitting him drove me nuts, even in jest. Like girl you just got a suspended sentence for DV. Keep your hands to yourself, because if the shoe was on the other foot, it wouldn't be cute. Noa was constantly on Khru about using his words but I rarely ever saw her open up.

I have to admit, I skimmed most of the book following the Christmas party. I just couldn't get back into it. I would love for the author to take the time to maybe revise this book and utilize some beta readers to give her some open and honest feedback.

This one has some promise. It just needs a little TLC to make it an unforgettable read.

Excellent read!!

This was top-tier storytelling! The characters made me blush, and I was merely a spectator in their spaceship. From the storytelling to the character development, I was entranced by the characters and invested in their growth individually and as a couple!!!

I’m torn with this story for a lot of reasons. I was really intrigued by the synopsis of this book because I love sports romances and I especially love a black sports romance! I think having it set in the baseball world was a nice/unique choice for a black romance but I feel like the execution was a little off in a few areas.

I was invested in Noa and Khru’s story but I felt like I would get lost sometimes because just like with the main characters I felt like the author wasn’t using her words. The transitions were sometimes so choppy that I had to go back to make sure I didn’t miss things. There weren’t enough descriptions or explanations for me to get a good understanding sometimes so it took me out of the story. I still don’t know how old Noa was supposed to be or what even happened with the reality show. And I really didn’t know how I felt about how often she was putting her hands on people. Kaylyn is a new author for me, so I’m not sure if the siblings have or will get their own stories, but I honestly needed them to have more depth or something cause they were just awful just to be awful sometimes and I really didn’t understand what any of their jobs were supposed to be.

Another thing that lowered my rating: the last book I read before this one was At The End of It All by Rae Lyse so that definitely affected the way I viewed the writing of this one because I felt like that one was nearly perfect! So, because I just finished that book it really threw me when I was reading this one and noticed a lot of similar things that Ace/Lourdes said were in this one.

One thing I did absolutely love about this book were the Instagram posts sprinkled throughout the entire story! I only thought it was going to be a one off thing! Those comments seriously entertained me and had me wondering if some of them weren’t pulled from real posts because that’s exactly how people are under celebrity gossip pages these days. All in all, I’m going to give this a 3.5 stars (but rounding down to a 3 for Goodreads).

OMG… Itried to read it slow but it’s 2am and it’s finish🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩😤😤😤😤😤💯💯💯💯⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️So good!

So even though I try to pace myself from reading it, it’s still 2am, just finished reading after having it for less than 48 hours…. It was that darn good!
We meet Khru, not only is he a superstar, but he is genuine and a homebody. We start by seeing his situation unravel and tragedy happens. We then get Noa, also a superstar (small time), also got a situation with a fictional tragedy. Both are angry and both meet in a setting befitting both, more Noa than Khru and that’s when the magic, the games, life started to happen.
That said, had a few issues: Noa was getting on my last nerves, but her though personality, her fight for those she lives and all made me gave her a pass. The other thing was the actual ending and epilogue, why was it so rushed?
In any case, I love it and gets rewarded with my loyalty to MS. Kiara where as ⭐️⭐️s she drop something, I am on it 🫡 Once again MS. Kiara, great book, superb and perfect 👍… thank you for giving us Khru and the gang⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Just beautiful!!!!

What God brings together, let no man tear apart !!

This book…..I couldn’t put it down. It gave me all the feels!! Ms. Kaylyn Kiara you did that babeeee ❤️❤️
Noa & Khru for the #homerun!!
The way you penned the characters and their lives, I was right in the book with them. It was relatable, seamless, captivating, alluring and so satisfying to read!! And you gave us a musical experience to boot!! I’m done 😆🥰🙄

I don’t like giving all the tea about a book, because people will choose what they want anyway. However, this one is a must if you’re a romantic like me. You won’t want to put it down!! I found myself rereading certain passages, just to feel like I was in the storyline again and again!!

Khru’s marriage was through, Noa’s relationship was over, and God brought them together 💞💞 and they made a HOME RUN !!!

I want to reread the whole book again so I can feel how I felt when I was reading this!! I absolutely loved this book!! And I can relate to the #spaceship analogy 😍 cause I’m on one of my own 🚀 🚀

❤️ 🚀 Yasss to LOVE for EVERYBODY 🚀❤️ ‼️‼️

DNF at 31%! Book started off cool but then it dragged so bad that I lost interest. I even skimmed to 65% and it still was dragging. There was no reason for this book to be 456 pages. At about 140 pages, he still wasn’t playing baseball, JUST starting to eat right, still married, nowhere near a divorce, & him & Noa was playing. He didn’t have BDE at all. The fact that this grown man only ate chicken nuggets and candy was such a turn off and hard to believe. What grown man eats like that? Once he started to actually eat Noa’s food, the book just dragged. It had no direction in my opinion and I was bored. I love a sports romance but it took him like 200 more pages to get back to the sport. I also didn’t like the dynamic between Noa & Khru. I understand the enemies to lover trope but I like my MMCs to be intentional. Khru seemed immature in a lot of ways. If baseball means so much to you, why are you doing everything you can to get back to the game. Dude was 25 and because ate junk and chicken nuggets, that gave him a heart attack. Plot just wasn’t strong at all.
