ARC Review ✨️ This story was so easy to fall in love with!! It's fast-paced and filled with magic, fantastic characters, a perfect amount of drama, and so many adventures! It's a story that will keep you wanting to read on🤗✨️🖤
If you’re looking for an adventure that has a good tempo, then you’ve found it. There are some moments that gave me table top nostalgia, but without all the math. The characters are endearing and versatile with the overall world theme being very rich and interesting. While the setting themselves are detailed, I don’t think you get overly bogged down by repetitive introspections- which I appreciate. It definitely kept the story moving! I look forward to the next book!.

Echo's former mentor has gone missing from the realm where the dead souls who have not yet moved on to their final destination reside. No one knows what has happened to him, but Echo is determined to find and help him out of whatever trouble he may be in. Did I mention there seems to be a soul eater on the loose in the realm of the dead as well? So a party of adventurers is gathered to solve this mystery and rescue Echo's missing mentor.
This is the first book in s new series. It also ties to/is set in the world of a new Role Playing Game called Black Ballad. (I will be posting a review of the RPG next month as it has not yet been released, so keep your eyes open for both my upcoming review and the RPG itself.) I read a review copy of this book, and enjoyed it. It is a complex tale that involves both the realm of the living and the dead, though the majority of the tale takes place in the realm where the dead souls live. Some things may at times seem a bit contradictory, but I promise you that if you keep reading, they are explained in a way that makes complete sense as to why they actually do not contradict what you may have thought was happening. (Sorry that I can’t be clearer here, but I don’t want to include any spoilers in my review.)
I enjoyed this book. It was a fun tale that reminded me of when I was in high school & played a lot of D&D adventures as well as read a lot of the books that tied into those settings. So for me, while the setting was a different realm, the concept had me remembering my high school days & my enjoyment of both the game and the books.
If you are like me and either both played RPG games & read the books, or if you simply enjoyed the novels associated with the D&D worlds, then you will definitely enjoy this book. And if you've not previously tried either one, but enjoy a good adventure fantasy novel, then give this one a try. I found it fun and entertaining. (And no, you don’t need to have any understanding of the game to enjoy the accompanying novels.
The characters in this book are just plain likable and even relatable. There is plenty of drama and action well described to keep you locked in the scene, but the humor in the way the characters speak is what drew me in. I was hooked in the first chapter with “Sorry, gorgeous.” I fired three shots in rapid succession. “I hope we can still be friends.” I love the names of the characters: Hale, Finn, Echo, Hyperion, and Rivka as well as watching the way they come together. I have been a gamer all my life, and I can tell you if you love the mystical adventure of an RPG like Dungeons & Dragons or Final Fantasy, you will love getting lost in this. Can I just say, though, how much I love Hale? Some people aren't meant to feel feelings, and when they do, it punches you just a little bit harder in the feels. The only other thing I'd like to say is if you didn't read it for any other reason, you should check out the amazing world that the author has built. And Hale... I love Hale.
Every character was dynamic and relatable in one way or another, expertly crafted to draw you in. The world of the Sunless Crossing was so detailed and so freaking cool that I was here for it right from page one!
For all lovers of fantasy and TTRPG, this tale will take you on an epic journey through a unique world with enough familiarity to fill you with warmth. Yet, so much of it is new and interesting that you can't help but read on! If you enjoy the love and camaraderie between party members as much as I do, you have to read this book!
There is some spice, so if you don't like that, be forewarned.

This had everything that I hoping for in this genre, it had a great overall feel and the characters worked in the world that was set. It does a great job in introducing the world and was a great beginning chapter to the Legends of the Sunless Crossing series.Crystal Wood writes a great story and I'm excited for more.

This was an easy read. It has some great moments, great characters, and a unique setting. The problem I had with it was a lot of important moments didn't have enough space to breathe. They seemed to go by so fast that I wasn't completely sure what had just happened and I ended up feeling confused and lost. With more attention paid to these moments, it would have been an even better novel.

I fell in love with the world and characters of this book. Very well written, 3 dimensional characterizations. An imaginative, cohesive world. I am so very hooked and cannot wait to read more! Ms. Wood definitely has me waiting on tenterhooks for the next one!.
