This book is not just a book about the University of Dayton Flyers and their historic arena, but a book about the importance of college basketball, and its impact on the city. Jablonski writes authoritatively on the key events and great games that have been a part of UD Arena history. I can’t recommend this book enough. Having grown up in Dayton, this is a very nostalgic trip back, particularly the Cinderella of the early 90s.
This excellent book is a great gift for all fans of the University of Dayton (UD) Flyers. Even someone who grew up in Dayton, or lives in Dayton, or graduated from UD, will learn more about the home of the Flyers and the host of more NCAA tournament games than any other building. The author, David Jablonski, highlights the importance of the people associated with the arena, including those responsible for its creation, its staff, the teams, coaches, and fans. Memorable moments for the UD Flyers and the NCAA tournaments from the 1970s to the present are covered well. Older fans will appreciate the reminders of games and seasons that they have not thought about for years, while younger fans may better understand the history and tradition that supports today’s Dayton Flyers.
Jablo gives a great background on Dayton basketball that I never knew. It was fun reading and learning more about the program that I support day in and day out
