Baker Oaks #1

The Truth Never Spoken

Rate this book
I left Baker Oaks ten years ago and swore I’d never return. So, why on earth am I sitting in the front seat of Jake Clarke’s truck? The guy whose heart I broke all those years ago, the man I considered the love of my life.

After a decade of successfully avoiding everything Jake, running into him at the airport was never part of the plan. And staying at his place? Definitely not in the cards. But when my job sent me—Allie Zabana—on a six-month assignment near Baker Oaks, I had no choice but to go. I wasn’t planning on speaking to him ever again, let alone letting my eyes wander over his full beard, gazing into those intense eyes, or imagining how coaching football has calloused his hands in a way that could make my entire body shiver.

It wouldn’t be a problem if I hadn’t left without a word ten years ago, shattering both of our hearts in the process. Now, here we are, forced into each other’s orbit. All the old memories are coming back, along with a love I’ve tried to forget for so long—one that’s threatening to claw its way to the surface, dragging with it all the secrets I’ve locked away.

After a moment of weakness and his hands on me again, there’s no question about the chemistry we still share—it’s the kind of passion that could reignite like wildfire if we aren’t careful. But… he has no idea what really happened all those years ago, and I’m not sure he’d ever forgive me if he did.

Just when I think maybe the past will stay buried in the past, life hits me with a blitz I never saw coming.

What to Expect:
- Second Chance
- High School Sweethearts
- Sports Romance
- Small Town
- Multicultural
- Forced Proximity
- "It's Always Been You"
- Dual Timeline
- Dual POVs

The Truth Never Spoken is an emotional, small-town, second-chance romance. Jake and Allie are high school sweethearts who thought they would spend their lives together. From the moment Jake laid eyes on Allie at a party, he knew she would be his wife. They had a whirlwind romance until things fell apart. Allie left for college, leaving Jake behind to deal with a broken heart. Ten years later, they run into each other at the airport. The story follows Jake and Allie as they are forced to confront their true feelings and the secrets that tore their relationship apart.

The Truth Never Spoken is beautiful and well-written. Jake and Allie's story was an emotional roller coaster, and I loved every second of it. The story is told in dual timelines, and it was executed extremely well. I loved witnessing the beginning of Jake and Allie's relationship and how things progressed in the present day. Their relationship felt real, raw, and authentic. I felt so deeply connected to the characters and was rooting for them. I am from a similar area in Florida where this story takes place, so this was like reading about people I could have known in real life. The Truth Never Spoken is a fantastic debut from Ambar Cordova, and I can't wait to read what comes next in the Baker Oaks series.

Thanks to Ambar Cordova for the gifted eARC. Opinions expressed are my own.

A memorable 4.5/5.

I sat down to read this book and immediately knew that it would be a book that I would read in a sitting. I was immediately pulled into the story by the dual timeline and the dual POVs.

The characters! Watching the different roadblocks they faced and the difficult decisions that they had to make as seniors in high school. 😭 They went through so much and I just wanted to give them a big hug. Allie and Jake's story is one that will stick with you.

Side note: The author Ambar is super sweet. We found each other on TikTok and I have loved getting to chat with her about the book. 🤗

What a debut. What a fantastic debut. Both main characters are SO relatable, and right from the get-go, you can feel the tension, can feel the buried questions and secrets but also the lingering love and the skirting around the truth. This one takes you on a ride you never want to get off. In alternating viewpoints and timelines, we learn what catastrophic events led to the blow up of Allie and Jake, just as they are trying to navigate what might be a second chance, and wow does the author do it well. This is a release you don’t want to miss, romance world!!

Twelve tears out of ten 😭

What a debut!! Allie and Jake’s story emotionally destroyed me and that ending pieced me together.

I’m a sucker for second chance romances and they all always hit me the hardest, but I didn’t think this one would hit so close to home.

Love, love, love the writing, it’s easy to follow, the characters feel alive, like they really live somewhere out there in Baker Oakes and Ambar Cordova just happened to write about them.

Thank you so much for my review copy, can’t wait for release!!

I initially purchased The Truth Never Spoken at a local BN Spicy Saturday Ambar was attending because: 1) the cover is so adorable, and 2) Ambar just seemed like the most genuinely nice person ever. Since then, I’ve met her two more times and she’s literally a ray of sunshine. Her personality really shone through in this book and I will most definitely be continuing with this series! I always know a book is good (to me) when it makes me feel. That usually means that it makes me cry (because that doesn’t happen often) and boy, oh boy, did I cry towards the end of this one! Definitely recommend this one for a great second chance romance, with a golden retriever, obsessed with his girl MMC!

Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Quantity of spice: 🌶️🌶️
Quality of spice: 🌶️🌶️.5
*There are four spicy scenes in TTNS. I’ve included the pages/chapters at the bottom of this review. Ambar also has a ➡️ in the book where the spicy scenes begin - I thought this was a neat touch!*

The Truth Never Spoken alternates between past and present timelines. The past is Allie and Jake’s senior year of high school - 18 years old. They had a very fast, whirlwind romance where they fell HARD, but something happened that drove them apart. The current timeline is 10 years later when they run into each other at the airport on the way back to Baker Oaks. They see each other and feelings immediately rush back, so it’s like no time has passed but also way too much.

This story is about a second chance at love. Sometimes when you first meet someone, it’s a “right person wrong time” situation and I think that’s what happened here. They were very young & while their love was true, they needed the time to mature. When they meet in the future, they have to work through what happened in the past but I think it helped to make them stronger.

Allie is strong woman, and very independent, but she does deal with some body image issues, and has terrible anxiety. Jake was quite literally the perfect man for her. He was like a steady rock for her to lean on and helped her love her curves.

The letters, texts, and voicemails in the end had me SOBBING! 😭 Just thinking about what the other was going through at the time.. it’s get me choked up.

Can’t wait to continue on with this series! I’m guessing Roe and Thiago since Ambar said the second book is about a tattoo artist!! I’m so excited for that 🤗

The Truth Never Spoken is a standalone set in the Baker Oaks Series. Each story will follow a different couple and can be read in any order.

This is the story of Jake and Allie. Their romance began in high school and was a whirlwind of the perfect couple. They loved fiercely and had it all....until they didn't. Flash forward to 10 years later when they literally crash into each other int he airport and this takes them a journey of self discovery, love and forgiveness in their old hometown.

Oh how their story tore at my heartstrings. This book tells their story via then and now flashbacks. You get a glimpse into what happened in the past and how they reconcile their feelings of forgiveness in the present. Their story is one that will pull at your heartstrings but Amber Cordova will put you back together again. This is the debut novel from Amber and I am looking forward to reading her future books because this author has a very bright career ahead of her.

I loved everything about this book.
I loved the story, I loved the characters, I loved that it gave me the feels.
Everything was on point in this book.
Ambar Cordova did an amazing job for her debut novel!
Thank you for writing such a beautiful story!
I loved Allie & Jake.
Especially Jake he was just the sweetest from beginning to end .. he always put her first and always wanted what was best for her.
I loved Allie too, how she put his future first instead of their happiness being together.. that was a tough choice to make and even though I didn’t like it, I admired her for that.
I loved the dual povs the back and forth from the then and now.
My favorite was the texts messages and letters!
I loved the way it ended they both truly deserved happiness!!🥹🤍

Man did this book pull on my heart strings! There were sad tears and happy tears involved. Overall really enjoyed it.

I seriously just want to give Jake a big hug. He is an amazing man but wow was he ever broken and it hurt me to read about it. I am so happy it ended the way it did.

Allie also had me tearing up, she went through so much. What her and Jake had was amazing, I can see why she was feeling the way she did.

I loved that the book was dual timeline so you could see what happened when they were teenagers and what is happening now.

Thank you for giving me the chance to ARC read this book!!

Jake an Allie have a love that everyone hopes they find one day. Their stories are woven together over time and paint a picture of how strong their love and connection is; it know no bounds of time or distance. This is one of those books that hits you in all the feels in ways you don't see coming. It's the perfect mix of sweet and spicy, and just the right amount of gut wrenching, tear jerking scenes and heart warming moments. 🫶🏽

Note to self: the h stays celibate for 10 years while the H does not. I understand the h was the one to pull away in the first place but why only one character has moved on? (If you can be with other people, you’ve moved on)

So this one is a no no for me.

I hated how this book seemed to portray the female lead as the reason for the end of the relationship and the reason for everything bad in the male lead’s life. Jake was portrayed as the big victim and such a green flag when he wasn’t really one. I also really hated how Allie didn’t have any other relationship and never had sex with any other man when Jake fucked around a lot and even got married, but he was portrayed as the one who didn’t move on, ridiculous. Allie deserved better and Jake was just terrible.

Thank you for the ARC Ambar Cordova

This is every second chance lover’s dream book. It got angst, sexual tension, two exes who haven’t seen each other in 10 years and one irresistible HEA!!!

This is the first book in Ambar’s Baker Oaks series and what a start it was! 10 years ago Allie left the small town of Baker Oaks without any warning for Jake, her boyfriend and ever since they haven’t talked or been in contact at all. Now a decade later, Allie’s a teacher and is assigned to help school in her hometown district, and who does she meet at the airport? None other than Jake himself. They quickly fall back into a very well known routine when he offers that she can stay with him but she’s only there for a couple of months, so what’s gonna happen then?

Jake was just so dreamy and Allie was the sweetest girl ever. I loved their story so much and the fact that they had so much unfinished history, because that meant that we got a few emotional moments between the reunited lovers. Jake has clearly never gotten over the loss he suffered when Allie left and it was so raw and honest to how he had been feeling with past relationships after Allie left. I also felt for Allie because she was put in a difficult position and she just chose what she thought she had to at the time. But I loved that they got to spend so much time together after they reunited because they got to know each other again, this time right person, right time.

What to expect
— second chance
— high school sweethearts
— small town
— forced proximity
— roommates
— sports romance
— it’s always been you
— dual timeline & dual pov
— multicultural

Ambar, are you sure this is your first book? Thank you for sending me this eARC. It was worth every tear and watching them get their redemption love story was everything🥹 I love Allie & Jake and want to experience their love for the first time all over again!

Going into this, I truly thought this was going to be a HS sweetheart story …it was that & more! The emotions, the suspense, seeing their story unfold from a dual POV (which was easy to follow even jumping from the past to the present)…it was just THAT good and I’d do a re-read in a heartbeat!

Can we also appreciate the fact that we have a curvier/Latina representation in our FMC😍?! Being able to see yourself represented in a book is such a good feeling and I hope we see more Latina representation in the next books. Her

I cannot wait for the next book in the Baker Oaks series. Congratulations Ambar and happy release day xo🩵

A high school romance- he was on the football team and she was a cheerleader. It was instant chemistry from the start. I loved this book and felt every bit of emotion as their story was told. The story is written in now and the. Flashbacks so you get an overall picture of how their story began and where it is today. This is a debut novel that is beautifully written. I do not know how Ambar did it but I found myself feeling angry at each of the characters as the story was told thinking that moment was the reason they broke up but only to find more parts of story later and changing my view, it was whiplash! In the end it is such a perfect story with all the emotions you want in a love story- angst, passion, heartfelt, heartbreak. Speaking of passion- the shower scene?! 🥵 I hope you will read about Jake and Allie and fall in love with these characters as much as I did.

She was the one that got away. He was the one that stayed behind.

This story is about a second chance romance. Allie and Jake were in love and they were planning their future together until one day she walk away. Now ten years later Allie is back and their path intertwined again. This book was an emotional rollercoaster. It had me hooked from the very beginning and I could not put it down. I loved how I was able to feel the heartbreak right along with Allie and Jake. The dual timeline was my favorite part of this book since I got to see what was happening in the present but also what happened in the past.

I did not want to put this book down. Jake and Allie were the perfect couple, until they weren’t. Allie left without a reason why and they haven’t seen each other in 10 years. Of course the “run” into each other and back in her hometown with Jake, Allie has to deal with it all. A good second chance romance. Can’t wait to read the rest of the books.

It’s dual timeline, which can be hit or miss depending on how well it’s executed and I have to say this dual timeline was PERFECT! I also appreciated when it got into dual POV and seeing Jake’s POV. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC for Ambar Cordova’s debut contemporary romance and let me tell you it did NOT disappoint.

The Truth Never Spoken had all the things:
Sports Romance? ☑️
Second chance love? ☑️
Spice? ☑️
Angst? ☑️
A feisty, relatable FMC? ☑️
A swoony golden retriever MMC? ☑️

Allie and Jake’s romance begins when they’re teenagers; Jake is a varsity football player, and Allie a cheerleader. Their romance is a whirlwind, and Jake falls first and hard!

But 10 years later, Allie is returning back to where she left her heart behind, and The Truth Never Spoken takes the reader on an emotional journey through the years from the dizzying highs of their love to heart wrenching low where it all went wrong.

I loved this story. I laughed, I cried, I swooned, I even yelled at Kindle! And for a DEBUT to evoke that kind of emotion from a reader, is a testament to the author.

Some of my favorite lines:

“There is no life without you. That was not living. I was barely existing. Hold onto me. Hold onto us. For once, choose me.”

“I know that you have big wings, and I am not going to be the one to clip them.”

“Two thousand miles of twenty thousand. If that’s where your dreams are, you go chase them. I will wait for you…there will be a spot on the right side of the bed for you.”

This was, hands down, 5 stars for me, and I cannot wait to see what Ambar Cordova does next.
