Secret Baby for the Merciless Don

Rate this book
A forbidden night with my brother’s best friend led to a secret baby for the merciless don.

I wanted out of the mafia world, so I moved away to start a new life.

A funeral forced me to return home, where I found myself in the arms of my sworn enemy, Roman De Luca.

He’s as ruthless as he is handsome, and with the passing of his father, he is now the mafia boss.

One night, a fire ignited between us, and I was reminded of why he was my childhood crush.

Disregarding our mutual hate, his new mob boss status, and most importantly, the fact that he’s my brother’s best friend... we crossed a line that he demands we NEVER cross again.

But as life would have it... I'm pregnant.

Not worth the read

I made it to page 87 and couldn’t waste any more time. I love Mafia romance but this reads more like a high school romance where the “tough crew” strategies and hangout. Perhaps it’s because I just finished a well written Mafia series, but this book had me cringing at the juvenile dialogue. The body count discussion, how many people the h killed🙄, was my final straw.
Not well written, character’s relationship not well developed. Not worth the time.

I liked her and the confidence attitude. She was intelligent and I appreciated her loyal character. She was relatable and likeable.

It was hot and cold with Roman but overall I liked him. He becomes the boss when his father died and is a ruthless leader.

Four stars because I‘m a mood reader and I enjoyed reading. Normally this would be a three star read because the plot is not that good and there are some things that disturbed me.
Overall I liked Elena and Roman but their relationship was build too fast and without much tension or feelings. Still they‘re cute together and the secret baby plot was well done. The mafia family was hilarious and I am excited to read the stories of the other guys in this family.
The plot was okay but the pace was not well done. Some things happen so fast without any more explanations and other scenes were so long and unnecessary.
Yeah but I enjoyed reading and it was exactly what I expected from the blurb so four stars and thumbs up.

Not the worst book I have ever read because there has been worst, but the one quote that stuck with me:

“Did I not teach you table manners?”
“Of course you did. But I choose which manners I tend to live by,”

semantics on the table manners, but this quote as a general idea, mind blown 🤯🤯🤯

It was okay

Quick read, low stakes "mafia light" book.

It's more focused on the main character of Elena and her relationship with her family and the lead male character, Roman, then any high stakes mafia drama story.

Unfortunately Elena's personality did annoy me at times. She definitely played into the spoiled brat role and her family was stuck in that mindset throughout the story.

Despite having a child, Elena didnt show us any other development to make us or her family realized she matured. I don't think "because I'm a mom now" should be the only proof a woman matures. Roman does mention in 1 sentence her successful career but no one else seems to care.

I guess I'm just confused on her development. Let's not define it my motherhood or by career success. If we take those two things away, she still the bratty teen she always was. We don't see any other deeds or actions that make us think of her as less selfish and more considerate of her family. Two traits she was blamed for repeatedly. Her running away, despite her "good intentions" appears selfish and alinates her family. Meh I dunno just seemed like a weak story plot to me.

Wow! What a fantastic book this was!
I was glued to the pages from the first chapter.
This book is a rollercoaster ride of drama, action, some steam, intrigue, angst and wicked chemistry between characters Whether they were fighting or in steamy moments Roman and Elena were a force to be reckoned with.
Enhaled this book in one sitting. Fantastic read and one I definitely recommend!.

1 star seems a little harsh so I'll bump it to 2 stars because this was okay. I didn't like it overall but I also didn't hate it. I read much worse.

The title alluding to Roman as merciless isn't far off, especially when it comes to Elena. As the reader, we don't find out until much later, that the antagonism Roman is constantly throwing at Elena is because he's had to bury his feelings for her to keep the peace with his best friend (her older brother) and his consigliere (her father). So we have the classic trope of the H being a jerk to "push" the heroine away.

Then there is Elena, she's desperate to leave the mafia world behind her. She's educated and has a job far from home where she gets to pretend she's just a normal girl. When she comes back home, she's annoyed to find her childhood crush on Roman is still in full swing and nothing has changed because he still treats her like a pesky irritant.

I love a bad boy falling for the good girl and I hoped that's where this story was going but it all just felt so rushed and underdeveloped. Roman does and says some pretty awful things to Elena to push her way but somehow they end up having a raunchy ONS that ends in Elena getting pregnant. Rather than telling Roman - and at this point she really does feel like he would hate and resent her more, especially during the time when he was trying to assert his claim as the new head of the family - Elena packs up and leaves the country, having the baby in complete secrecy until she decides she can't hide forever and knows she messed up by running and keeping things secret from Roman. So Elena has her flaws, but I couldn't get over some of the petty stuff that exploded from Roman. Honestly, he never stepped up and accepted his own part in Elena feeling she had to leave. It was always Elena's fault and granted sometimes these blow ups are used as plot twists and leads to drama that livens up the read but when a hero can't admit to his own faults and never apologizes for his crap behavior, I loose respect for that character and shipping for a HEA is almost impossible.

Long story short, the hate part of their love/hate romance far exceeds the love part of it. Roman went from resenting and blaming her for all the problems her surprise pregnancy causes HIM to loving her and wanting to marry her despite all the opposition. It just never made any sense since we don't get to see him showing in actions and deeds that he cared for Elena. His about face was so rushed it was hard to swallow.

I wish Elena had thicker skin and steel-ier spine and didn't just tuck tail and wallow in self pity after every encounter with Roman. Girl needed to stick up for herself and just let him walk all over her and her feelings. It got cringy at times. Not only did she get hurt by Roman, but she got disowned by her brother, belittled by Roman's mother and guilt tripped by her father.

I loved that she had her bestie Kiera and I'm dying to know what the real story is behind her and Michael. And even though Tony is a little off his rocker and blood thirsty, I kind of want to know who he gets paired with. I think I found the side characters more interesting than the main couple :/

* * * I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. * * *

This was ok.

Elena’s brother is best friend’s with Roman. They’ve always had a weird vibe between them with harshness and teasing.

Roman’s father is killed and he becomes the mafia Don, and Elena is back in town after the funeral for a bit.

They finally give into the tension and sleep together. Elena goes back to Boston, and learns she’s pregnant. Since Damon said they were a mistake and is facing a gang war/unrest, she runs away to London with her best friend for a year to have the baby secretly.

My biggest issue was pacing and the romance. She’s not pregnant until almost halfway into the book, and he finds out after that.

There wasn’t enough time of them rebuilding or even building their relationship in the first place. Literally at 80% they weren’t even together and not really in a slow burn way, just a blah way. When she’s away for that year, they don’t even talk once. It just didn’t even feel like a pining situation even though they obviously had some kind of feeling, I wanted it to be deeper.

It’s also never stated, but I’m pretty sure he’s slept with people since her even though he said no one made him feel that way. She didn’t because of the baby. And they were both with others obviously before getting together. That’s why I hate when characters know each other so long, they’ve had to see that. (He can’t even remember how many women he’s been with 🙄) but thankfully it’s both of them having experience and nothing on page. He is sort of engaged in present time but it’s a business deal and he’s never with her.

So overall, I felt like the beginning part should’ve been shorter and the second part longer. I wanted to feel more depth to their relationship!

Bruhhhhh
Once again I’m being hella generous
Like it’s not really a four star read, but I can’t fathom giving it anything lower than the other book of hers I read because I did not like that as much as this one.

Everything was going PERFECT up until the time jump. The time jumped but so did the pace of the book… by A LOT. Which yeah I get bc it’s a short book but I wish we got to see a bit more of their chemistry and not just how they were going to tell everyone.

But I still liked them a lot! It was cute and stuff. I’m just a little irked how they will seem to mature overnight. Last time we saw them together I guess they were mature in their own ways, but not really. They had this heated passion thing that had been well and alive for over a decade, but after Cassie, everything kind of changed.

Which of course is understandable considering they’re literal parents now,, but like where did all the fucking chemistry go?😭😭
Ive seen it in a lot of books unfortunately. there’s so much hype between the couple getting together and then when they get it together, it’s just so out of character & Lovey-dovey… I can’t really explain LMFAO

Anyways still liked it a lot more than the previous book! I really liked the family and friends in this one! Much better world building :)
And the first half was ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥😅🥵

ALSO I FORGOT TO MENTION!!!
One thing I absolutely LOVED was how great of a father Roman was to Cassie 😩😩😩 LIKE YES GIVE ME THOSE DOMESTIC SCENES🤲😩❤️‍🔥

Roman and Elena

Roman and Elena are both parts of mafia family. Elena was raised by her dad when her mom left and wanted nothing to do with the business. Roman thinks she is a brat so he wants nothing to do with her. The book really reads heavy on the enemy’s to lovers and brothers best friend. It continues to be a fight even after they have a mistake night. There is a war between the mafia families and she leaves coming back a yr later with a surprise. Even after that they fight. Then towards the end they start being nice and falling. But up until the last chapter she still was being a hard one for sharing feelings. I guess Im not 100% a fan of this kind of extreme enemy to lovers, not the whole book almost anyway. Also the HEA was a little underwhelming I mean they are together and in love but….
There was not a lot of spice maybe 2 quick scenes and I didn’t feel the chemistry but did feel the dislike.

the author of this book felt like they were mostly telling us than showing us. The action scenes weren't that descriptive. They were supposedly so into each other ever since they were teenagers but you don't really get a hint of that because there was no pining. not to say that pining needs to be displayed all the time in these stories but there was hardly an chemistry between them. it was like they were just there. Also the crime organization didn't feel like one at all in this book. It was as if they were all playing a role in a high school play LOL the men weren't big bad alpha types which i like in mafia romances because why else pick them up, ya know what i mean.

Aside from that--I liked it LMAO i swear these tropes be getting me so confused when reading...do i like the book or do i just like the tropes? It was a very quick read; light mafia book with the tropes being brother's best friend, secret baby (one of my new fav's), and don and mafia princess.

Mafia world. Strong FMC (Elena / Lena) that wants to break free from the mafia lifestyle and be independent. MMC (Roman / Rome) becomes the new Don after his father is unalived.
Book was ok… not much spice but what there was was good.
***spoilers
Elena and Rome grew up around each other. They are constantly picking on each other. Romes father dies by members of their family you betrayed them. Rome becomes the Don now seeking revenge. One night of high emotions leads to passion between the 2 and Lena becomes pregnant. Scared and unsure of what to do, especially since Rome declared their night together a mistake, she takes off for London to have the baby in secret. She felt she can’t tell Rome at this point because of what was going on in the organization and his need for revenge. She couldn’t give him a distraction.
Rome is now engaged to a woman that he is definitely not interested in. It’s obvious it’s transactional.
Lena has the baby and comes home.
Eventually she tells him and he handles it badly. But understandably.
Now Rome is trying to figure out being a dad, wanting Lena back and navigating his engagement which he breaks.
Their daughter gets kidnapped but returned safely by an enemy (nephew of the enemy Don takes her from the enemy and gives her back).

Usually these books are a super quick read with lots of crime action mixed with romance. But this book was more like 3.5 hours of reading. In addition, the crime scenes were muted and there was little to no romance involved. All the character development scenes are skipped, with the writer opting for “one year later” chapter titles followed by blanket statements on how they changed, “she was more mature”, like okay. I was hoping for a cheesy romance novel but it was like little crime, talking scene, time jump, crime, 1 page of smut, crime, talking, talking, talking, talking, crime, happy ending.

a book of two halves

This book almost felt like it had been written by 2 different authors. The first half was really slow. Then the second half was overly rushed. It turned into a “this happened, then this happened “ etc. It was as if the author got fed up of the book herself and just wanted it to be over. Any storyline built in the first half was abandoned or rushed in the second then a weird incident happens near the end which makes it feel more like a setup to another book. I also didn’t really like any of the characters - main or supporting. I gave it 3* as I did finish it but won’t be continuing with this series or author. Sorry.

Slow - 2.5⭐️

This is front end heavy. The dialogue is awkward and the prose is repetitive. There is a LOT of unnecessary filler that shows us nothing other than eating and drinking.

The “meat” of the story gets skipped with a time jump which made me feel robbed.

Elena might be a Mafia Princess but she’s not the smart kind.

Roman is your basic I have to prove myself cuz my dad died guy. 🤷🏻‍♀️

49% before any forward progression between the two main characters. And then a one year time jump? Nah.

This book was okay but not great. I typically like my books more on the darker side. I felt that this story was not 'mafia' at all. Roman is the Don, and throughout the story, you forget that because he's constantly doing things a Don would not do... going to a bar and catching a cab home... goes to a grocery store without any form of 'security detail' or 'men'... apartment visits... a lot of things just don't add up and are inconsistent with the typical behavior expected of a mafia leader.

As for their relationship, it's cute.

Umm I dont think they are going to last. They just dont connect in a nice way that shows they 'love' each other and will live together for the rest of their lives.

Another thing is how little to no character development there qas gor any of the characters at all. It felt a bit to rushed with the plot.

My top characters are the dead father and baby honestly 😀.

Like they just make sense.

A bit cringe here and there when you dhlly process some things.

Overall tge book didnt make sense but definetly A+ for the idea.

I feel like i ranked it harshly though.

Spicy hate filled love.

This story has a little bit of everything. I was hesitant at first because it had a bully vibe to the synopsis, but it isn't. Just a pretent to hate you love story. While there are a few minor editing issues, the story is very well done and keeps you wanting to find out what happens next. I definitely would recommend this author and am looking forward to her next book.

Likable characters lead to a highly entertaining read

This is the first book I have read by Awhile Silas and half way through I was buying the next series. Elena and Roman have a well established history which provides a view into both their insecurities when it comes to their story and how the love of someone beyond yourself brings a purpose and maturity to both.

If you enjoy mafia romance you will enjoy this book.

This book kinda bummed me out. The premise and the characters were really promising but the execution wasn’t there.

There was a lot of lackluster conversation, minimal character development, and a lot of moments that dragged.

I’m still interested in the side characters so if I’m really needing a quick read, I may decide to read the remainder of this series, but it will likely be as a last resort when I can’t find something else to read.

good book

It’s a good fast read. The storyline flows. Characters are great. It’s a fast fast paced type book.
The only thing I would say would be that I would have liked to see more. The gang war, maybe some moments from both Tony and Michael. Her time away. The kidnapping. A part from Ivan and the other girl. This could have been an epic story.
It’s a good book though and worth the read.

Tell me again why i always fall into the booktok traps?

Anyways, it’s a simple 29 chaps book, that you can finish in one sitting. Nothing major happens, the whole hiding the pregnancy was over a stupid reason and apparently there wasn’t really any argument either. Everyone got along pretty well, after being a bit too mean (esp the dad and the brother, they overreacted)

I seriously don’t know when and how they fell in love and what led two reckless people to settle down!

half Baked

The title made this story seem as if it was going to be a great showing of Mafia strength. The H should have been more brutal, aggressive and dominant. The h was spoiled, ungrateful and selfish. There was nothing dark about this story. The love scenes were quick, thoughtless and unfeeling. It was disappointing.
