This feels more like a prequel novella of a series rather than a standalone novella.
The writing was very simple - you can tell the demographic of readers that this book is aiming for. Most of the time the plot was simplified, a lot of characters' personality were done through 'telling not show' but I blame that on the fact that this was a novella. Maybe the author didn't have enough time to develop the plot, the wolrdbuiding and the characters as well as their relationships in a more natural way. Honestly I just think the story would've been better off if this was full on novel or better yet a series.
The main characters were more passive than I would've like. Passive characters are not bad in general but for this plot, it just made no difference if the main characters exist or not because the conflict would've been resolved the same either way.
Nevertheless, I did still enjoy it. Wish we gotten more of Wyn tho

A town of faes, a beautiful friendship with a half demon, it was all fun, but a lot of confusion on my part.
In a land of fairies called Everville, a young girl called Honey found a stranded child called Wyn in the forest, she asked her parents if he can stay with them, and since then, they've become one family. Once reached the age of 16, Wyn's demon features became more prominent than ever, and despite a side of him is still a half fairy, the townspeople still treated him badly and acted prejudice towards him. One day, a sickness spread across the small town, and the townspeople started accusing Wyn for causing it. Seeing that, despite the awful treatment from the townspeople, Honey stood up and work side by side with Wyn to help combat the sickness. But things actually worse than it is, what Wyn and Honey will do when all hell break loose?
First of all, can we talk about how beautiful the cover illustration of this book is? This probably is my personal number one favourite cover of a Bookiut book cover! I'm not even exaggerating, but idk how many times I took a break from my reading just to admire the illustration. Biggest shout out to 4threset for creating such masterpiece of a cover.
Okay back to the book itself. I was actually 50/50 with this book, there are way too many questions I would like to ask, but at the same time I quite like the ideas behind it? So yeah.
The story is an action-fae fantasy genre, with a side familial relation and friendship. I like the story background and the world building done by author, as previously I tend to have a bit of a hard time following fae fantasy genre, and this one is quite an easy read for beginners!
The magical aspect of the story is actually enjoyable to read, from the spells and unique magical powers, to the brief explanation of the potions, it was written nicely without making it lenthy, and it was such a good job how it didn't make me as a reader feel overwhelmed learning about the magic and new terms.
The familial / found family aspect of the story is just really nice to read, their genuine care and trustiness of Honey's family towards Wyn, I just adore it very much. In relation, the prologue chapter is probably something I would love to treasure, it was just so pure, and the kindness shown in it in contrast to the later chapters, make their relationship precious. In term of the main characteristers, I loveee both Honey and Wyn very much! Their care for one another is just so * ugh * darn precious, and thei contrasting personalities really makes things more interesting!
Just wanted to drop this early on, despite me not liking the ending, I still think the fight scenes were well written as it reminded me so much of the old 80s chinese martial art film in combination with the superpowers of the kinds from the Sky High film. The introduction of the casters are also seems pretty cool, and the description of the guilds, although so little, the information was so interesting to read. Tapi itu lah.
Despite all of that, I think personally, the downside of this entire premise is, I feel like the story is trying to be, and trying to put so many things all at once in such a short novella. Contains spoilers from this point ahead.
• Oversimplification and the lack of communication / relationship built up, thus leading to emotional disconnection from me as a reader and plot holes.
I wish there were more conversations between or scenes between both Honey and Wyn with their parents. Yes they took care of Wyn for a decade, but with how bad the situation is at the town, at least a small conversation of their parents ensuring Wyn that he will always love him would be nice. Or before dad's sickness happened, maybe a little / more interaction of Honey with her father such as him telling her to take care or he loves her would make me feel more emotional when her father 'died'? Till the end, their parents seems like a super minor character in the story.
Although we can see how Wyn and Honey is always together, but the lack of heart to heart conversation between them is so frustrating to read. Of course she backed him up and speaks up for him (and only towards the climax and ending we get to really see the h2h conversation), but somehow, during the time of what happened with dad and how Wyn was treated, they never really talk about their feelings, whether they're upset, whenever they're angry, or just them saying comforting and trusting one another? At least maybe during the library + rare flower arc it could be a good time for them to talk about their worries and sadness, and also with how the entire rare flower plot is became almost irrelevant to the plotline makes me so sad thay the arc weren't being utalized.
Talking about the flower scene, the entire thing with the mayor was so abrupt and too oversimplified? There were literally no proof that Wyn caused it and I assumed Honey told him Wyn tried to help with the flowers (idk?), somehow it was so easy for him to let them go, yet the mayor still threatened to put them in jail? Istg that's the most useless mayor I've ever read in any story, he did literally nothing to control the disease, blindly jailing people, then he just goyang kaki minum teh while his people is literally dying? Apa lah.
• Lenthy action scene + lack of information about the antagonist
I know, I said I like the fighting action tangkap menangkap magical scenes, but for it to go on for over 1/3 (almost half) of the story, I think that's a bit exhausting too read. Maybe I wasn't expecting it to be an action fiction, nor do I really enjoyed action, tapi idk, I think the scene could be cut off and be filled with other things.
In correlation to the action scene, considering the villain is the main antagonist, and she has so much scenes while at that, I feel dissatisfied the fact that we barely know the villain's motive and background and how she easily got into the town and stole people's identity, and it's such a let down that what they did is insignificant to the town, townspeople, or the main characters, and they're there because they're just bad.
• An anticlimactic ... climax and ending
Despite how I think the fighting part were too long, the later part of the fight was actually really well done, story build up leading to climax has been really good, both emotionally (I legit cried okay) and the action, but why, why when Wyn is on his full transformation, suddenly the scene were just put to a stop? Hello? Why? I know it's so Wyn didn't die, and it's a way to introduce the Casters. I thought the scene's going to go differently where the townspeople are finally going hand in hand with Wyn to defeat the villain. But even if they wanted to go to the introduction route, it would be more epic and exciting if the Casters went hand in hand and use magical super saiyan power, but nah, all they did was told them to stop as if it was just a small banter, between two people.
Remember when I said their parents feel like a super minor character? Well, throughout the middle of the event until the end, their mother was never being mentioned ever again, nor there's a closure of how their father's conditions went? Was expecting an emotional reunion of the family, since it's supposed to be about that. But somehow the ending is just about a group of people that doesn't even exist on 9/10 of the story. Sigh, everything just feels so abrupt and being thrown together.
• The book title? + Story direction?
Maybe I'm slow, I don't want to call it 'misleading' but at certain degrees it feels like it, but I don't really understand why the story is titled that? Halfway through the story I genuinely didn't understand why 'casters' since all they did was fly, talk to flowers, and make potions, until the fighting part stared, so I thought 'oh it's because they uses magic-', but wait! The story said 'Jade is a former caster' so I thought he loses his magic? Then suddenly they said it's a term for people that graduated from the school for Casters and I was like 'so the title is about these random kids?' and then suddenly Wyn said he wanted to enroll to the school? But why is the title like that when they aren't even 'Casters', nor it's a huge part of the story at all 9/10 of the story?
Another different red herring is probably what the Jade's owl told Wyn, where 'fairy people in this town refuses to see differences and didn't see demon kind as similar beings as them, just because they're different kinds'. Since then, I genuinely thought it was going to be a story combating racism and prejudice of the fae townspeople towards demon people / half children, but disappointingly they never ever changed their perspective until the end.

Well despite all of that, I still enjoyed my time reading the story although a lot of parts stresses me out (LOL), and I really adore the MCs very much and the easy reading fantasy elements of the story kinda opens up the gate for me to accept more fae fantasy!
Overall, if you wanted to try reading fairy fantasy with lots of action and abit on a dramatic side, this would be for you! Or honestly, it's worth getting it too because the illustration is way too beautiful hehe.

funny to think that so much effort had gone into the making of a book yet i finished this book in one sitting in less than an hour. it’s an easy yet adventurous read, with main characters who are the literal definition of grumpy x sunshine.
well, wyn isn’t too grumpy, but appearance wise wyn and honey are like the black cat x golden retriever trope a lot of people like so much. i adore these two; their friendship is everything. found-family and magical creatures? of course i’m gonna love it.
the world-building is fascinating, and the plot takes a few turns right until the end that keeps everything interesting. definitely a page-turner for me! if it wasn’t a novella, we probably could’ve learned more about wyn’s history and how he lost his memories :( i’d love to read about that.
ALSO WHEN MORGANA’S REVEALED — i could only think about morgana pendragon from merlin (one of my fav and comfort tv shows in the world). even the descriptions of her fit so well with merlin’s morgana. LOVE IT.
and their adventure as casters !! i need to know more about the casters. praying for a sequel 🤞🏼

Well written story! Loved every aspect of the plot, I do wish to know who exactly Wyn is or expand more on the history of the Casters. Very enjoyable! If this book gets a sequel or something, I'll keep an eye on it.
Diving into this book, I expect some fun & digestable fantasy & BOI WAS I WRONG! The drama, the tea, the false accusation, the bane of this antagonist's existence! It started with a cute, wholesome interaction with two characters (Awww ❤️) and disaster strucked the village & the residents 😭 I enjoyed the fighting scene included in the chapter, well fleshed out!
The only gripe I have is knowing the history of the village or expand more on the character, Wyn. There's some question marks left behind after the book ended.

This was SO much fun! Found family, adventure, and magical creatures. This book had everything!
Wyn, Honey, and Filo were on a mission to find a cure for a mysterious illness that plagued their home before it was too late. The plot was quick, it went on from one scene to another without stopping. You'll never get bored. Despite having only 110 pages, it had an amazing setting, imagination, and surprises for you.
Next time when you want to have a fun and quick read, pick this book up!

This is an enjoyable novella to read. I'm captivated by the world setting and the characters. It's a pity it's just a novella. It has the potential to expand into a longer story with more twists and turns.

Everville was a wonderful place. However, one by one the people in the town started to fall into sickness. Wyn, a demon was accused as the causes. Honey won’t keep quiet about it. Honey, Wyn and Filo, three of them sets to find the cure and to clear Wyn’s name.
This book was amazing! I love the how the author describes those places. It was beautiful and magical. Every pages was engaging and I couldn’t stopped reading. I love reading about the fight scenes, adventures and how those three acted.
