DNF. I found it challenging to get into this novel due to the plot, so I only managed to read up to 34%. However, I did find the characters intriguing. Watch my full book review here: https://youtu.be/05wFf9WdmMo

I enjoyed this book for the most part. I think it's a very beginner friendly book for new readers. The scenes were very short and not very graphic or detailed, so that was disappointing. I liked all the characters. The story was pretty jumpy and Very predictable. Meet - Date - Issue - Love concours all - Issue gets resolved - End. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this book but I wouldn't discourage anyone from reading it (if that makes sense)

Honestly, I had high hopes and struggled with how many stars I should give this. Ultimately, I went down from 2 to 1 since I could not force myself to finish the last 8% of the book. The writing was not good, the story had potential but was so poorly executed. This was a why choose college hockey romance between one girl and three roommates - there was a fake dating arrangement plot but then also some meet cutes with the other guys who later realize they are all crushing on the same girl and didn’t realize until part way through the book - a little too convenient that they were all besties and fell so hard so quickly for the same girl in my opinion. The character and relationship development was lacking, but I really couldn’t get past the juvenile writing style. Though it was multiple perspectives, every chapter ended with some existential long game line - “I know it’s hard now, but I couldn’t have asked for better men to be standing by my side to see me through this moment - I KNOW we’ll come out on the other side stronger than ever!” Literally, every. Single. Chapter. Couldnt do it. The mean girl and the hockey coach who vilify their “disgusting relationship” was also way too over the top. Lastly, I like my spice to be a little more drawn out - we’re talking a full intimate moment with multiple partners from beginning to end lasting, at maximum, a page and a half. It was not good.
Emma is a singer who has been working hard to perform in her schools spring show case. Her audition was interrupted by a hockey player. Emma convinces the coordinator that the hockey player, Alec, was her boyfriend and was looking forward to seeing her perform. Emma approaches Alec about fake dating and he agrees because his reputation took a recent dive due to an ex releasing pictures of him that should have stayed private. During all this Emma also meets JD by chance and Luka, both are Alec’s roommates.
This is a why choose, standalone, hockey romance and I am here for it. The spice in this was well done. I really enjoyed this book.
There wasn’t much spice, it was very plain and kind of boring. I had to force myself to finish the book. This would be good for someone who leans toward the softer type of romances that tend to have very little hurtles to get over and who enjoy the couples falling in love fast.
Look, it’s an easy read. I delimished this one evening and finished it this morning. It’s not changed my world but it was comfy and the plot was speedy and I enjoyed it. The story is predictable, yeah, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want, right? I know when I picked these tropes (why choose/ college/hockey romance/roommates/teammates) what I was getting into and I don’t have a single complaint. It delivered exactly what it promised. The “villains” in the narrative were a little two dimensional and the drama was predictable but that just factors into the ease of this read. The spice became a little predictable and repetitive but was that what I chose this book for? No. And it didn’t take me out of the story at any point so it was fine. Over all a fine read. Easy, quick, comfortable. The characters are fairly balanced and easy to track, there are a mixture of peripheral characters and hints at what the next book is leading to. Would recommend it for a comfortable read, breaking a slump or if any of the tropes mentioned are what you’re looking for.
This book was good but wasn't one of my favourites..
I feel like they feel it love very fast with not a lot of back story..
I didn't feel like I got into the story and was just reading because I hate not finishing a book once I committed to starting reading it
This would be good for someone who leans toward the softer type of romances that tend to have very little hurtles to get over and who enjoy the couples falling in love fast.
Emma is a singer, trying her best to make the best of every chance she gets during her college years. Alec, Lucka & JD are best friends & hockey players. Each have their own moment with Emma, not knowing everyone else’s situations with her. When the truth comes out they make a choice for the whole group, but will the consequences of their actions be too big for even love to win!?
This story proves that sometimes the family you make is better than the family you are born into!!!
Made it to about 10% before I dnf'd. It was mostly dialogue and not enough scene or world building to justify continuing on. Plus, the chapter breaks are 2/3 white space/pictures which signals to me that the author doesn't have enough faith in her writing abilities and needs to pad the page count of her book.
2½⭐ Not a terrible read, I've definitely tried to read worse. This book could've been so much better with a better editing. It was too long, became slightly repetitive, & sorta felt like the author was trying too hard. The characters weren't bad though and the spice was good. I forced myself to finish the last 10%, I won't be reading more of this author.
Gave it a 3 star - really felt more like a 2.5 in my opinion. It was good, just wasn’t great. It gave me Wattpad book vibes which isn’t always a bad thing- just wishing it was a little better. Wish the relationship dynamics went a little deeper and we could watch them grow a little more instead of jumping to the ‘I love you’. Just felt very rushed/quick.
This was a typical storyline. The wording and description was very blunt and not detailing. As if was written by a child and not feeling in the description. Found it quite boring to read.
The writing in this book was very juvenile. I understand it is a college romance, but this felt like high school. I didn't make it far, but it bored me.
DM Page is an auto read author for me. This was an another fun read from her with all my favorite pieces of a whychoose hockey romance. Easy to read and all around fun
This book is about Emma, Alec, J.D. and Luka. Emma is in the middle of her spring concert audition when Alec comes in and ruins it for her.
She now has no spot on the spring for the concert and she needs to badly. She lies to the Dean and says that she is dating Alec (the captain of the college hockey team).
Alec is the captain of the hockey team and is trying to get rid of puck bunnies so he agrees to fake date Emma only if he pretends to be his girlfriend too. They agree and start this arraignment.
Luka meets Emma and thinks that she is cute and flirts with her no matter that she is dating Alec.
J.D. Is the third in this trio and meets Emma in a college class and is getting help from her for the class.
All the men are best friends, live together and find out they all like Emma. Alec tells them that he is fake dating and they all agree if Emma agrees to each date her.
This is how their relationship continues and how they know that they want to be together no matter what others say.
Off the Rush by D.M. Page is a contemporary romance that blends small-town charm with themes of love, self-discovery, and second chances. The premise is engaging, with characters who feel relatable in their struggles and triumphs. Page’s writing style is accessible and flows easily, making it a quick read that doesn’t demand too much heavy lifting from the reader.
That said, while the story has heart, it doesn’t always deliver on its potential. Some of the character development felt a little uneven—there were moments where motivations or emotional shifts seemed rushed, making it hard to fully connect with the cast. The romance itself is sweet but somewhat predictable, relying on familiar tropes that may appeal to readers who enjoy comfort reads but might leave others wanting more depth.
The pacing is another area where the book falters. Certain sections drag with repetitive dialogue, while others skip over what could have been meaningful moments of character growth. Still, the setting is nicely drawn and gives the narrative a warm backdrop, and there are glimpses of strong chemistry between the leads that keep the story afloat.
Overall, Off the Rush is a decent read—pleasant enough for fans of light romance but not particularly groundbreaking. It’s the kind of book that sits comfortably in the middle: enjoyable in the moment, though not one that lingers long after finishing.
