This excellent, clean romantic suspense story is incredibly enjoyable due to the main characters, John and Eve, who lead the reader through an exciting, emotional, action packed and nerve wracking time in their lives while also realising their feelings for each other are much more than work colleagues.

Thoroughly enjoyed the spiritual aspects of the characters leaning on God during their dark hours and asking Him for help in the situations they are found in. Also the medical aspects were interesting to this reader.

Highly recommend this story - please read!

Intense addition to the series by Melanie D. Snitker.
Eve is a single woman and ME in Destiny. She receives a strange package at work that reminds her of the murder of her friend several years ago that was never solved.
John is a detective for the police department and was with Eve when she got the package. He’s not comfortable with the circumstances surrounding the delivery and wants to help Eve discover who is behind it.
Past and present collide in this suspenseful story.

I loved the main characters. They were slowly falling in love as they work together.

The case they are working to solve is brilliantly twisted. There are a few anxious moments, although they are not extreme nor long lasting.

The couple's work family plays a major part in their lives, and it was fun to read of them teasing and supporting each other.

This book is a clean suspenseful romance. I am more of a clean regular romance reader. However, this book hooked me in from the beginning. So much so I could not put the book down and stayed up past my regular bedtime to finish this book. I could not put it down.

John and Eve work together. He is a police officer and she is the medical examiner. He is trying to solve a murder. Can Eve help him solve it? Will this pull them closer?

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. I would love to read more of these books from Melanie.

Beneath the Surface is an interestingly twisted mystery. I think it was nearly 4 am when I finished reading because I had to know how it ended! John and Eve are both dedicated professionals. I loved how John tried to keep Eve safe. I loved the couple’s trust in God. Ms. Snitker’s well plotted mystery will keep you guessing even when you think you know part of the answer.

This book (and the others in the series) reads like a good suspense/crime TV show. The pacing is perfect to keep you hooked, and the details and research are so well done! I was intrigued by Eve from the previous book, and how she was described as really good and focused on her work. Which, by the way, was fascinating! As for Detective John Paris, if you've followed this series, you know about his investigation work. And I certainly loved reading his story and seeing things from his POV! Especially with how everything played out with this new, creepy threat that escalated quickly. I definitely enjoyed the teamwork, the forced proximity situations, and how everyone at the precinct (and even some outside of it) is one big, found family. There are glimpses of and updates on past characters, though Loki is still a favorite. ;) It's also nice to see how the characters' faith plays a part in the story, though I'd love it if the Bible were incorporated as much as the prayers.
Overall, a great addition to this Romantic Suspense series. Can't wait for the next one! ~ 4.5 stars

"She turned it over, taking the gold trim that outlined the sealed flap. She carefully ran a finger beneath the flap and lifted it. The first thing she saw was the dreaded newspaper article she'd been featured in. Next, she slid a piece of cardstock out of the envelope. Given the fancy paper, she didn't expect to find the words on the card typed in a basic font that wasn't the least bit elegant. Eve gasped as she read, "Nice article. But soon, they'll see the truth. The great Genevieve Marks will fall just like the rest of them" Chill bumps raced each other up her arms."

As a medical examiner, Eve is used to dealing with crimes. But when she becomes the target of threats, she is not sure how to handle it. What has she done to deserve someone's wrath? As she starts to look into her past, the truth begins to come out. With Detective John's help, can she find the wrathful man before more people are hurt?

This suspense book revolves around a serial killer. So it is a bit intense. There are just enough details provided to make the danger real. But I appreciate that the focus is on finding the killer rather than on the details of the crime. This is not a sensationalized book. But younger readers are not the intended audience.

While Genevive certainly needs John's help, she holds her own with figuring out the crimes. There are many layers to this story. Romance is only a small part of the story. And it fits in well with the rest of the book.

I have really enjoyed the "Danger in Destiny" series. While one could follow along and read this title first, the books do go along with each other. I am glad they read them in order. I look forward to reading all of the books in the series.

Eve and John work together on cases in Destiny, TX. He is a detective and she is a medical examiner. When a case is thrown right into Eve's lap, John works tirelessly to assure her safety and attempt to catch the killer before he strikes again. He secretly has had a crush on Eve for a while, but doesn't want to ruin their working relationship by pursuing it. When they start spending more time together, they start to wonder if there could be a future for the two of them.
I really loved the natural progression of their relationship. The action within the storyline definitely kept things interesting! Grab this book if you are looking for a clean contemporary suspense. I received an advance copy of this book from the author. All opinions in this review are my own.

If you love Christian romantic suspense, you will not want to miss reading Beneath the Surface! The main characters are very likeable, as are the group that they work with. Detective John Paris and Medical Examiner Eve Marks are professionals who are exemplary in their jobs. I love John's concern and care for Eve and his understanding that he would do the same in her position. The plot moves at a perfect pace for romantic suspense. There are some tender moments to take a break from the nail-biting suspense. I would definitely read more of the Danger in Destiny series and other works by author Melanie D. Snitker.

Author Melanie D. Snitker cleverly balances romance and suspense in this story of a medical examiner and a police detective—Eve and John—who work together to solve the murder of an unlikable apartment manager. The case becomes personal, however, when they discover it is linked to the eleven-year-old unsolved murder of Eve’s college friend, and now Eve’s life is in danger.

What I enjoyed about this book:
* The colleagues-to-more romance
* Both main characters are strong and intelligent and don’t come to the story with baggage that pulls the reader out of the suspense.
* Both main characters lean on their faith in times of worry and fear.
* The story is entertaining from page one to the end.

Join Eve and John through Destiny Police Department, he's a detective and her job is M.E. They are both well liked, trusted and love by their co-workers and the community.
When Eve gets an unexpected box delivery to her worksite, the memories (not happy ones) come back to life. John automatically feels the change that came over her and jumps into job mode. Together and with help of Jenny, Tia, Arnold, Clit, Eve's assistant, as well as Officer Zeller and a few others - they gather info, past and present clues, then piece by piece put the puzzle together. When Eve gets injured, John is panicking and worrying on the inside - while on the outside he is supportive and does what needs to be done for her survival odds to improve.
This is a great story with real characters and community.

My Thoughts:

'Beneath the Surface' is another excellent series by this author, Danger in Destiny. It will keep you turning the pages until the end. It is a good story about Eve and John solving a cold case that resurfaces due to what happened to Eve's friend earlier. It is remarkable how this author gives the reader such an excellent story of an investigation that finally gets solved.

After all the twists and turns, the story finally comes together, giving the reader a good tale of suspense, mystery, romance, and faith in God.

Another exciting story in this series! I loved the audiobook and the narrator. I was caught right up in this book from the first. This author sure knows how to start a story to catch your attention. John and Eve works together on this case and they get closer than just friends. Every time Eve got a package I was tense and couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. Will the killer strike again before they can solve the case? I don’t think you can read this without feeling apprehensive about Eve.
Don’t miss this opportunity to read something or listen to an audiobook that will keep you on your toes.

Sometimes you meet a new author that blows you away with their talent! You know how in some houses you walk in and immediately feel at home, well, Melanie D Snitker has that ability. You meet new family, heart family that you don't want to let go. John has his work cut out for him, to try and keep Eve safe. How do you keep someone safe when you are not sure who the enemy is much less where they are? Add to that the fact that Eve is no wilted lilly but she, herself is in the thick of things to help solve the crimes! I love how they trust in God, not in their own power but in God's!! Most definitely a recommended read!

Really enjoyed this book and being part of author's ARC team. Good, solid storyline throughout and enjoyed the lead characters Eve, Genevieve Marks, and John Paris. They were strong, yet compassionate individuals, who thought of others before themselves.

The mystery of who the killer was and their attempts at killing Eve kept me reading the story til it was the end. Good mystery and plety of twists and turns to keep the reader interested. Add on their romance story this is was a good read.

Eve and John have known each other for years, working for the same police department. They have felt some attraction, but never acted on it, since they work together. Now Eve's past has reached out to her and not in a good way. John vows to protect her no matter the cost. They both rely on God to help them through the scary, tough times as they search for the serial killer after Eve. I loved the suspense and slow burn romance of this book. I also love that they found solace in prayer and each other during the tough times. I am looking forward to more by this author.

Is a serial killer back? Why has it been 10 years since the last murder? I was intrigued by the forensic aspect of this story and how it helped find the culprit. The author gave me a copy of the audio version. This is my first time listening to Ms. Brunk. She brought the characters to life and listening made the story more enjoyable. I like listening to stories while I do other things. This is my voluntary opinion.

Oh, this book was so good. Eve and John worked so well together as they tried to solve the murders that had ties to Eve's past. The twists and turns kept me turning pages late into the night. I really enjoyed seeing their relationship grow through everything they went through, and I loved the support they received from their friends in Destiny. Well worth the read!!

4.5 stars. I liked this story. Not overly descriptive, good dialogue, pacing was quick enough not to get bored and to keep the story moving along well. I love this book! It has wonderful characters, a great mystery, entertaining action, and a lovely romance. It's the first book by this author that I have read, and I will definitely be reading more. An exciting story with great suspense all the way to the end. A cold case is re-examined in light of recent events. John and Eve have worked together before, but now Eve is in danger and John plans to protect her. Action packed. Clean “workmates to more” Christian romance with prayers said for strength and guidance. Highly recommend. The audiobook was well narrated.
