Kya Snow is an agent of the Bureau of Security and Investigation and after losing her old team months ago, she’s found herself the newest member of an unconventional, elite unit known as the Nighthawks. Led by her cousin, Basil the first autistic captain of the B.S.I, the Nighthawks are a team of secret agents stationed in New York and their job is to protect the rich and influential inhabitants of Kingwood Boulevard, the wealthiest street in Manhattan.Though unorthodox, Kya finds herself right at home alongside her new teammates; well mannered Georgie Mathews, wildcard Tiago Reyes, and especially the team’s leading scientist, smart and compassionate Hiram Koplowitz. However, when a mysterious criminal organization known as Elysium emerges from the shadows to kidnap one of the inhabitants of Kingwood Boulevard, it falls to the Nighthawks to save their upstairs neighbor, and unravel the mystery of the strange Elysium agent who captured him and why she looks exactly like Kya’s old captain.A slow-burn, character-driven mystery rooted in mythology, religious symbolism, and theoretical science, the Nighthawks covers themes of what it means to be human, acceptance of self, and the importance of not flying alone.
I'm also originally a Vella reader, and have been following this series from the beginning. I bought a physical copy as soon as I found out one was available.
When I got the physical copy, I reread it, to refamiliarize myself with the first volume (the second volume on Kindle Vella just wrapped up, so it'd been a minute), and found myself quickly drawn back into it again.
While the whole novel is a wild, fun ride from start to finish, my favorite part remains the characters. They're very endearing, and you're thrown into Kya's perspective as the new girl very quickly. You come for the sick bad guys and interesting plot, and stay for the engaging characters.
Hiram will always be my favorite, and I will die on that hill.
I first read this story as a Kindle Vella and I loved it. I am so excited to have it in book form. I love all the characters and the storyline is fascinating! I am amazed how the author weaves in the mystery and intrigue with Greek Mythology. I also appreciate the diverse characters, and neurodivergent rep! Basil is the first autistic captain in the B.S.I and I related to him so well. I also adore the found family trope. Nighthawks never fly alone!
This book sucked. It felt like it was written by a third grader with no personality. It also seemed like instead of writing a fun engaging story, the author just wanted to push her agenda.
This was such a good book I really liked it and was so invested in all the characters. I absolutely loved Basil and enjoyed the mythology references. I will be honest tho at the beginning I thought that it was agent v like the letter not Roman numeral.
