The Moment Promised

Rate this book
The line between friendship and desire doesn’t fade just a little—it becomes invisible. Love has always been scarce in Adeline Miller’s life. The only exception has been her childhood best friend, Finn Walker. Their profound friendship was her lifeboat, an escape from the waking nightmare that consumed her days. While everyone else is off at college, Adeline fills her days with a menial job and hopeless efforts to heal from the past while taking care of her mother. Everything changes when the little boy who brought warmth to her darkest days returns as a man who makes her feel things she never dared to feel before. He reminds her how it truly feels to be alive. When secrets from the past resurface with devastating consequences, Adeline has to make a difficult choice, give in to her feelings, or walk away to keep him safe.

I may not have been the book’s target audience, but I liked it.

A ya romance debut read, very well written that brought out deep emotions and covered some tough topics.
I enjoyed Finn and Adeline’s journey as well as the twists and turns - some of them were so unexpected!

after how much i struggled to finish this book, you'd expect me to have stronger feelings about it, but i don't. it's just there. it was fine. would've benefitted from more editing and more character development, and i felt like the flashbacks didn't really add much to the story

Not only the outside is beautiful the inside is beautiful too!

If you love an easy friends to lovers romance book. With an emotional background story, this is the book you need to read.

I really enjoyed this book and it was nice that you switched between the past and present and got to know every character that way. Would definitely recommend to anyone who likes romance books without smut and more depth.

This was cute. I definitely wasn’t the target audience so the immaturity kind of bothered me but that’s on me.

The strength that Addline had to push within herself to overcome the domestic violence she had endured since childhood was impressive. Finn was her rock since the beginning! I did not expect that twist at the end. I was suspicious that something weird was going to happen but def did not expect that. Great debut novel!

・ 。゚☆:The Moment Promised *.☽ .*:☆゚

⁺₊★·.´🎧✩°。 0:56 ──♡───── 3:32 ⁺₊🎧★·.·´

Adeline Miller’s (h) life has been a series of emotional battles, with love feeling like an elusive dream—except for the unwavering presence of her childhood best friend, Finn Walker (H). Their deep bond was her sanctuary, offering solace amidst the chaos of her troubled existence.

─── ・ 。゚☆: THOUGHTS*.☽ .*:☆゚. ───

“How did you know I’d be at Pete’s?”

“Your car wasn’t at home, so, I figured you’d be at work.” He suddenly shudders at whatever image haunts his imagination. “You’re lucky I got here when I did.”

“So, you have me all to yourself for the next two and a half months.”

The concept of the book was clear, and it’s evident that the author had a specific vision in mind. However, the execution didn’t quite hit the mark for me. While I understand that every book has its own style, this one felt a bit off. The writing came across as juvenile, not in a way that’s necessarily tied to the genre but more in how the dialogue was crafted. It felt choppy and rushed, with scenes popping up quickly without much build-up or context. For instance, there’s a scene where Adeline is stranded because she locked her keys in the car, and she’s anxious because she’s alone. But then, out of nowhere, Finn shows up just when she needs him the most, despite having not seen him for months. It felt a bit too convenient and didn’t flow naturally. The writing seemed overly meticulous, making some scenes feel forced rather than unfolding in a believable way. The interactions between Adeline and Finn didn’t have the natural feel I was hoping for (and accustomed to), which made the story less engaging.

“You look really pretty today,” he says.

“So do you.” I quickly shut my eyes. “I mean, handsome. You look handsome today. Well, not just today—”

“Adeline.” He cuts me off, rolling over until he’s directly on top of me, gazing directly into my eyes.

Even though the writing didn’t quite work for me, Finn stood out as a genuinely supportive character. His dedication to Adeline was clear from the start. It was obvious that Finn genuinely cared about her well-being and was determined to help her rise above the limitations of her small-town life. He always had Adeline’s best interests at heart. Whether it was making sure she felt safe and protected or ensuring she knew her worth beyond the confines of her town, Finn was there for her. Even as a child, he was a consistent support system, never backing down even when faced with difficult circumstances, like dealing with her father.

“I fell in love with you a very long time ago, Adeline.” There’s a long pause, my heart doesn’t even beat. “I love you as a person, a friend, and as the other half of my soul.” His voice breaks, “I’ve loved you long before I knew what the word meant, so when you said you wanted a fling, I talked myself into believing it wouldn’t end this way for me…” his eyes glass over but they never leave mine, “To experience what it would be like to be loved by you too, even if it was for pretend.”

The pace of the relationship between Adeline and Finn was definitely a whirlwind. One moment Finn is just giving her a ride home after coming back from college, and the next, they’re involved in this elaborate charade of pretending to be married at a bar. Before long, they’re off on a road trip with only one bed, which quickly turns into an intimate encounter. The transition from friendly banter to a more flirtatious and serious connection happened so fast that it felt a bit jarring. Ad starts out being straightforward about her feelings, suggesting they could be friends with benefits or have a summer fling, and initially, Finn is on board with that. But then Finn suddenly pulls back, revealing that he wants something more with her. While their interactions had some cute moments and Finn’s affection was evident, it all felt a bit too calculated. It seemed like the romance was being carefully orchestrated to hit certain emotional beats rather than evolving naturally. The rapid shifts in their relationship dynamics, paired with Finn’s sudden change of heart, gave the impression that their connection was more about hitting the right notes for emotional impact than genuine development.

“You look at me and my stomach flips. You laugh and I forget everything that’s wrong in the world. And when you touch me, it feels like I’m free falling.” I step even closer, so we are pressed together. “You’re the only person in the world who brought light into the worst years of my life. You know me better than anyone.”

Given that this is a debut book, it’s understandable that the writing and character development might still be finding their footing. The story didn’t quite flow like a typical romance, and it often felt like the progression was following a very calculated timeline rather than evolving naturally. The way the relationship between Adeline and Finn developed felt a bit too deliberate, with each plot point seeming carefully planned out. The pacing was swift, and the transitions between different stages of their relationship felt somewhat abrupt. Additionally, the parts involving Adeline’s father didn’t quite resonate. They leaned more toward telling rather than showing, which made those sections feel less impactful and emotionally engaging.

─── ・ 。゚☆: OVERALL*.☽ .*:☆゚. ───

While the book had a lot of potential and the concept was interesting, the execution in terms of writing style and dialogue could have used more polish. It felt like the story was following a strict blueprint rather than allowing the characters and their relationships to evolve more naturally.

I loved reading this book. I think that the author did a fantastic job of connecting all the characters and it had some twists that I didn’t see coming. Finn and Adeline’s love story keep me enthralled so much so that I read this book in just one day! I really hope this author brings out another book in the future and I hope everyone enjoys its as much as it did.

“I can close my eyes and see beneath your clothes, just like I wanted. You wrinkle your nose when you lie, When you’re excited you squeeze your hands together, like you’re trying to contain it. And when you told me you loved me, there was fire in your eyes.”

While the friends-to-lovers trope initially sparks interest, the narrative quickly loses steam in the mundane middle section. Character development is lackluster, leaving readers with a superficial connection to the protagonists. The writing style is simplistic, making the book an easy but forgettable read. Amber's attempt at a charming romance feels formulaic, leaving much to be desired for those seeking depth and originality in their novels. Overall, a boring entry into the world of romance literature!

I have been following Amber on tiktok for a long time, and I was so excited to see her book finally come out!!The first half of this book was really good. I loved Finn and Adeline’s dynamic. However the last part fell a little flat for me. I found myself skimming just to find out how it ended. With that being said, I’ll probably read her next book!

adeline miller had a traumatic childhood where she grew up with an abusive father and now is the sole caregiver of her mother. throughout her childhood, finn walker has always been by her side every step of the way. adeline has sacrificed many things so that she could be by her mother in her time of need, but finn can see how difficult this has all been for her and tells adeline that she needs to start living life. since finn is back in town from college, they decide to go on a spontaneous road trip for the summer. as they travel through state lines, they start to have a summer fling because they don’t want to regret not trying. but it quickly becomes something they don’t want to end.

i really enjoyed adeline and finn’s journey with all the twists and turns. amber did an amazing job wrapping up all the plot twists- some i didn’t even see coming. overall, it was pretty easy to get through because its fast paced. ad and finn’s dynamic was so cute! finn is literally the sweetest and most purest book boyfriend. the way he cared for adeline was just the freaking cutest🥺 he is the definition of will do anything for the person he loves! i know many people like being called ‘love’ which is what finn calls adeline, but idk it just gave me the ick (that’s probably just a me thing lol) other than that, i enjoyed it and can’t wait to read more of amber’s books! also congrats to amber for releasing her debut novel💗

It was honestly kind of annoying and slightly fan fic vibe, with minimum of one parental figure addicted, minimum of one parental figure abusive, the waaaaaay too quick kiss/change in relationship. And the slightly annoying main character.. but all in all, it was a very quick read, they had a few cute moments and I did enjoy it during some scenes

This book was alright. There wasn’t much character development and there were flashbacks throughout the book that didn’t really do much towards the actual story. I thought the ending was good and I didn’t see it coming but besides that the book felt rushed and incomplete.

I absolutely LOVEDDD this book. In my opinion, it was a bit slow at the beginning but once i got about 50 pages in, things started to kick up. I love the best friends to lovers aspect of this book and there was a LOT of shocking turning events that i did not except, this especially started around the middle of the book. Cried my eyes out, was in Awe and had goosebumps with the final 70ish pages. An AMAZING read and i am utterly shocked this just came out. Definitely highly recommend !!!!

When I bought this book I knew it would hit close to home because I have lived a life similar to Adeline. When I got it I was unable to put it down. I have never read a book like this one. The way she told Finn and Adeline’s love story was so pure and innocent compared to the life Adeline had endured. Also the plot twist, NOT expected that at all. I think this book will not only give people hope there is good at the end of the bad, it will also show them the strength that it’s ok to leave a scary situation. Amber hit this novel out of the park and I cannot wait to see what she has in store.

Amazing! Wonderful! Beautiful! The way Finn is always there for Adeline from day 1 is so sweet. Hearing their story from then to now and how they got to where they are and how they fell is so beautiful yet sad because of the things Adeline and her mom had to endure. THE PLOT TWIST! I honestly didn’t see that coming! The like last 10% of the book had me ugly crying and gave me shivers because of how everything was going so good. Adeline and her mom deserved that. I think I cried harder when I read the line “I’ll love you in every timeline.”😭😭 so good and I cannot wait to read more from Amber!
