If you want it bad enough, you can have it, even if it means murder.
After all, it’s this season’s must-have.
Dan Corrigan has set himself up as a private investigator, and with his first real case he has his work cut out for him.
A wealthy social media influencer is being stalked, and her band of egotistical friends are not going to make Dan’s job easy. There are plenty of suspects, most with dark secrets hidden in the past, including the reclusive Hollywood legend who’s bought the mansion nearby.
It’s a complex case, but everything changes when a murder is committed.
Meanwhile, DS Kulkarni has a case of her own. In a sleepy seaside town, a body is discovered in a burnt-out building, but the fire wasn’t accidental, and her investigation takes a very dark turn indeed.
Wow! I have read every book in The Devonshire Mysteries series, and they are each excellent. However, this novel goes beyond all of the others in the scope of the plot, character growth, and even the number of prominent characters integral to the story.
If you haven’t ever read anything by this author, you are truly missing out. He writes in many genres, but it’s all tied together by his exceptional talent. Why not get acquainted with him now?
I really enjoy this entertaining series. A Must-Have Murder is another great installment, please keep them coming Mister Campling. Is internet influencer Zadie being merely harassed or are darker events coming her way? Not -very-amateur private detectives Dan and Alan have a lot to sort through in Zadie's cluttered life with close and not so close friends, over protective employees and family, and Zadie's own past casting its shadows. A few familiar police acquaintances join in as things escalate, but this isn't just a police procedural; it's more character driven and a lot of fun as skeletons rattle in many closets and red herrings dart around. Exposition gets a little long sometimes but still great fun. Well done!
Again, Campling draws us into the not-so-cosy world of Dan and Alan, with a cast of diligent police officers, the odd dog and fallible humans, some of whom choose the dark side, several threads are followed by, intersect and reach resolution. The strength is in the creation of a world we believe in, people we warm to and want to succeed.
This one is longer than previous books in the series. I became impatient just before the middle. The detail and switches in plot strands slowed the pace but then seemed to pick up and I had no trouble in the second half.
It turned into a cracking yarn about people I liked and wanted to succeed. As, of course, they did.
This book with Alan and Dan called the Devonshire mysteries is the greatest! Dan starts his ist investigation with Zadie as a social influencer with someone threatening her. Her group of friends become part of investigation due to them knowing her activities. With so many twist and turns and with police involved it holds your intention to the end!
In Michael Campling's excellent, (if lengthy mystery), A Must-Have Murder, a young social media influencer, Zadie Barrington, hires local P.I. Dan Corrigan and his friend/sidekick Alan Hargreaves to make enquiries, after police seem reluctant to believe her assertation that she's being stalked. Friends, employees and other characters are each posited as suspects in turn, while the varying length of chapters - spaced over the length of a few week. This keeps the largely dialogue-driven storyline moving along nicely, with a smattering of red-herrings to keep you guessing and grip you firmly by the imagination throughout. Get your copy of A Must-Have Murder as soon as possible to see how things all work out!
